Indeed and it's a shame that Kenpõ like so many other good arts fell into the bad side of "politics and bickering" after the founder passed away, or even sometimes before the founder passed away: such as the split that resulted in the Tracy branch of American Kenpõ, or the various schools of Hapkidõ when it main base founder passed away; or even to a lesser degree when the four main branches of Kajūkenbõ started to evolve and have offshoots of sub methods, that tend to bicker more than work together, or even the various Ninjutsu organizations that tend to keep to themselves rather than working together.

As a martial arts fanboy for 40+ years, I had always wondered what happened to the film career of Jeff Speakman. I loved the principles of American Kenpo Karate as it made so much sense to me. It had similar thinking with Bruce Lee's JKD, and how to use body mechanics. Its like a physical chessboard of destruction taking into account the opponent's reaction and movements when executing a move that flows efficiently and continuously to the next until the opponent is knocked out. I did not realise about Mr Speakman's trials with cancer and his words truly were inspiring about the duty of the martial artist to help people. Thank you Scott for this episode. Actually Van Damme is an accomplished Martial Artist....He's a third degree BB in Shotokan Karate and also has Muay Thai and kickboxing...he's more than just martial sport...Speakman wasn't bankable after the Perfect Weapon that was pretty much it for him. Regardless of his contractual disputes etc....if he was bankable another studio would've gobbled him up. Him and Seagal don't want to show JCV the respect that he shows them but his career is better than both of theirs combined.

Wow! What an incredible human being! I could listen to Mr. Speakman all day. It must be amazing to study Under his instruction. He seems to embody what a real martial artist is in the dojo and out. Extremely knowledgeable and down to earth. A man who wants to make a difference and loves his fellow man. Was Mr. Parker that kind of man also?

Its intersection that martial arts is resurrecting in the public eye with cobra kai and pod cast like these. Mma is awsome and not taking anything out of it but as the world could really use the universally shared and treasured compass of morality that student got from martial arts. Which ironically was one of the themes of the perfect weapon lol. Thank you Mr. Adkins for taking all of us on your journey, It helps rekindle many of our passion for the arts lost in the day to day of being adults and navigating through these unique times. We are a community irregardless of what style are system. Thank you.

Interview was something else. I am a massive fan of Kenpo. Trained a little off it in my early 20's. I am also a massive fan of Jeff Speakman. But I was not expecting such a touching and inspiring interview to this level. Another great video Scott. I can not believe some of the people you have got to interview in this series. Keep up you amazing work and this amazing channel! I am now going to my private Kali lesson inspired!

Also Van Damme is not just a kickboxer is he, He first did Karate Shōtōkan when he was 12, And then later did Kickboxing, + then other styles!
So what is Jeff talking about

@@mikekaraoke Ah sorry for the confusion, I meant I left a HUGE comment in the global section, but I'll copy+paste it here so that you won't have to look for it:
LATER EDIT: I've now finished the whole video. I'm really really really sorry for what he went through with his cancer and I'm super glad he made it out alive, hope none of us will ever be in his shoes, but especially because of such life altering events, I'd urge him to reconsider his view on the world with less emphasis on "me me me" and be more down-to-Earth, modest and grateful. Having this constant "me vs. them" attitude is no good, it's literally poisoning your soul, which poisons your mind, which then ends up poisoning your blood. And just so that I'm not a complete douche myself, I'll leave my initial post down below, not to back out of what I said, as it was my objective opinion based on all the things he stated. Yes, I was very aggressive in the way I said it, again, I'm sorry to hear him struggle with cancer and all, take my post with a grain of salt, but at least take away the essence out of my comment :)
INITIAL POST: Dude.... at least Seagal doesn't give his interviews having his 26-Dan "uu-look-at-me-I'm-a-Grand-Master" belt around his neck, like wtf, I thought he'd be a genuine bloke, but his ego's over the moon. All that shit he gives to Van Damme out of thin air, Scott didn't even ask anything remotely close to that, yet he keeps using every opportunity to say Van Damme is limited, how he can't do anything and oh "wait till you see him"... like seriously? You can't even kick dude!!! When you do a back kick you spin like a ballerina and land the kick with the side of your ankle, just like every wanna-be tough action dude who gets a 3-week training before doing an action sequence. Eric Roberts in Best of The Best moved way better than you, Liam Neeson and Keanu Reeves would school your butt every day of the week. I remember watching your movies back in the 90s on Saturday nights and I remember I was always like "duuuhhh, another JCVD clone/wanna-be who can't fight and hopes his pretty face will compensate" and I was only a toddler starting out his martial arts classes and STILL I could see how off you were on screen. Had nothing against you and really liked you despite all that, cause I thought you were doing your best to make it in the industry and were aware of your shortcomings and you wanted to improve. But seeing this interview.. mmaaannnn.. seriously get a grip on yourself, and have a self-check if you're that big into psychology. You don't even have the foundation for executing the moves properly, nor the right bio-mechanics in any of your kicks, especially the "sophisticated ones". You literally move like everybody's athletic uncle who cracks some cool moves out of the closet on Thanksgiving's day after a few beers. Van Damme is a MASTER in terms of body movement and martial knowledge, you clearly know NOTHING about him and his life work. You even called him a kickboxer, like wtf?!?! I would've never left a comment like this, but I'm not even 1/4 in the video and my brain's already exploding. You were "everything that Van Damme wasn't in the martial arts industry", like REALLY?! Get the funk out of here... I think you have a LITTLE bit of a Seagal complex. But it seems you'll be schooling him too in no time. I meant ego-wise, but you probably thought I meant martial-arts wise. Oh no, wait, you're already 10x better than him also. He practiced that "limited" Aikido. But oooh boy, wait 'til they see Ken(m)po, that'll show'em!!!
