  • Lyrics:
    Travel like a king
    Listen to the inner voice
A higher wisdom is at work for you
Conqering the stumbling blocks come easier
When the conqueror is in tune with the infinite
Every ending is a new beginning
    Life is an endless unfoldment
Change your mind, and you change your relation to time
    You can find the answer
The solution lies within the problem
The answer is in every question
    Dig it?
An attitude is all you need to rise and walk away
    Inspire yourself
    Your life is yours
It fits you like your skin
The oak sleeps in the acorn
The giant sequoia tree sleeps in its tiny seed
The bird waits in the egg
God waits for his unfoldment in man
    Fly on, children
    Play on
You gravitate to that which you secretly love most
You meet in life the exact reproduction of your own thoughts
There is no chance, coincidence or accident
In a world ruled by law and divine order
You rise as high as your dominant aspiration
You descend to the level of your lowest concept of your self
Free your mind and your ass will follow
The infinite intelligence within you knows the answers
Its nature is to respond to your thoughts
Be careful of the thought-seeds you plant in the garden of your mind
For seeds grow after their kind
    Play on, children
    Every thought felt as true
Or allowed to be accepted as true by your conscious mind
    Take roots in your subconscious
Blossoms sooner or later into an act
    And bears its own fruit
Good thoughts bring forth good fruit
    Bullshit thoughts rot your meat
Think right, and you can fly
The kingdom of heaven is within
Free your mind, and your ass will follow
    Play on, children
    Sing on, lady

    True story:
Some months ago I was going through a rough patch in my life. Lost my job, girlfriend dumped me, couldn't afford to go back to university. I was really feeling depressed. One night I was driving back home and I was convinced that I was going to kill myself when I got home. I was listening to my personal Spotify playlist, and when I was about 15 minutes from home this song came on. I'm really into psychedelic rock so the guitar at the beginning kept me listening, even though I had never heard this song in my life. Then the lyrics came.... I've never been so deeply touched in my life. I even cried all the way home. Went to bed instead of killing myself. Later that week I not only got hired on at another job, but met a beautiful woman that I am now dating.
This song saved my life and, to this day, I have no idea how it ended up on a playlist only I can add songs to.
    Peace and spread love.

When this came out in 1974, this song changed my life. Eddie Hazel awesome guitars and George Clinton's words made this track stand the test of time. For those who want to know, there is a source where the lyrics were inspired by, a short book called As A Man Thinketh by James Allen written about 1894.

The lyrics to the song are loosely based a book called "As a Man Thinketh", a literary essay by James Allen, published in 1902.
Also the basis of The Law of Attraction (you reap what you sew)

Man one of the greatest songs ever . This song always had a special place in my heart but listening to this on shrooms ... man I cried like a little baby .
Cried my soul out , leaned on my window and loooked at my city at night and just bawled . One of the most beautiful nights ever . Never felt so at peace as that night . The impact this song had on my life is huge , ty Funkadelic and specially to Eddie !
    PLAY ON ...

When everything was lost and then I heard it randomly for the first time, it was like a map to find me again. No doubt since then I firmly believe that the universe, life, god, or who knows what, puts in our lives what we so desire, and gives us those answers that we need, in some way or another, with music, a poem, a book that for some reason you came across, a phrase you saw, a person, I firmly believe that everything that happens brings with it a message that we need to hear to became what we want.

Been there, done this. The first time I ever went on a flight, I was listening to this as we soared on top of the clouds (like when George starts speaking at 6:30 or so) and it put me at such peace and joy as we soared through the Heavens.

    • @sex6cult9revolution
      @sex6cult9revolution 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@dennisscott1610 If you have the vinyl, play it at 45. It sure sounds like a dead ringer for George (when sped up to 45) to me.
As far as I can recall, spoken parts on P-Funk albums were usually recited by George. There have been exceptions (like James Wesley Jackson on Music For My Mother), but most of the offspeed stuff like Eulogy and Light, March to the Witch's Castle and the "luscious bitch" speech in America Eats Its Young and Red Hot Momma have always been George reading and playing with the speed/pitch control. (I've actually done remixes of P-Funk and messed with his voice like that myself).
Are you sure you're not thinking of Standing on the Verge of Getting it on? I know that's Ray who in his speaking voice says "Cause it's what time it is" twice (if I recall) in the song.

    • @dizscribe1711
      @dizscribe1711 ปีที่แล้ว

Every time I saw George and P-Funk play it live, it was also George who sang and it sounded just like the record. I never would have thought it was anyone else.

      @sex6cult9revolution ปีที่แล้ว

@@dizscribe1711 "Every time" they played this? Did they play this much? When are we talking? Always sounded like a primarily studio track to me - like it's mostly just Eddie with a pedal and George doing overdubs. I saw them a dozen times and never saw it but I did hear George read some of the text once with Billy playing the bass part of Music For My Mother (this was in 2002, actually - the last time I saw them).

I apologize for the crazy 'link' as a way to get to the book (for free), but youtube won't allow links in comments. I loved reading this book. It was nice to discover one of the influences behind George Clinton. This book still influences many people today. Motivational speakers and preachers freely quote from the book but never acknowledge the source.
