One ridiculously shit tv show is not going to ruin the career of one of the greatest artists of all time. He’s by far the most popular artist in the world rn (Spotify) and is currently on a world tour selling out stadiums. However, I do think his subject matter is a lot less confronting when it’s sung in a voice like his over great music, as opposed to seeing it directly in front of you. Plus the idol is worse than anything The Weeknd has ever written. Judging off his solo creative pieces, e.g, the after hours music videos, paints a very different picture.

I can actually disagree about projecting a lot of Tedros onto Abel. His music tends to tell stories about toxic lovers, and unfortunately grand displays like the ones he writes about are too easy to see as simply big and romantic (see: romcom love). But that deception means someone like Abel didn't really "act" as Tedros so much as just project his own interpretation of "control as romance".
And with his views starting to spill over through what we know about his role in The Idol, it too often doesn't feel like acting.
That sounds like a compliment on his acting. Don't forget that "The Weeknd" is also a character. Neither The Weeknd nor Tedros are Abel Tesfaye.

Tedros is in no way supposed to be a likable character. Also, the key word is CHARACTER. Tedros is not The Weeknd or Abel, they are 3 different personalities. The Weeknd was not low key with Trilogy also, most of that album is about being in toxic relationships and things like that, thats who he is. Thats what his early music is all about and it sounds good. No real fans are hating him for the show, nor are real fans going to stop listening to his music or supporting him bc of it. We shouldn't hate actors because they played creepy characters. Get off it.

Your first mistake was not understanding who The Weeknd is. The Weeknd in of himself is a character with an ongoing story. A storyline that mirrors a lot of concepts from The Idol but this time, he’s in Jocelyn’s place. After Hours storyline perfectly matches this and unlike Jocelyn, The Weeknd doesn’t win in the end. He ends up dying. Abel Tesfaye however is just a shy, goofy nerd who just chills at home with his dogs and girlfriend.
To add to this, just because it’s easier to project doesn’t mean it’s ok to project. Y’all judging this man who’s played a character his whole career just because he’s an introvert???? 😭
As for The Idol itself, the very things y’all complained about was the point. Y’all complained about it being creepy and making y’all uncomfortable and that was the point. The Idol was made for people within the industry and aspiring artists because shit like this happens. Tedros is literally Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager who used and abused him and literally wiped and had no record of his identity within the system. Its not that they can’t take criticism, it’s that the criticism is complaining about is the very reason and point this show has to exist. Like imagine going to see The Batman and then you complain about it being too dark, grim and action packed when that’s literally the point. It’s ok to admit the show just ain’t for y’all and that’s ok, not every show is made for everyone. Same way Friends wasn’t made for black people and the same way the Boondocks wasn’t made for white people. It’s ok.
As for Twitter, Abel does this all the time. He does it with his fandom too. It’s all jokes with him like dude responded to the Oreo twitter account talking about “Don’t make me dunk you in a glass of milk”. Like let’s be serious here, Abel was making jokes and having a blast.

Artists who want their music to break out leak it to DJs. Ameri did it because beyonce stole her vibe so she wanted to release one thing before crazy in love. It all makes sense if they show her getting him to make a dj leak her sexier stuff. She used him for trauma she didn't use him for romance. Tedros had to be creepy to show it's about finding a new abuser so she feels normal. It was sloppy writing but potential was there. Acting was solid. Abel is sexy. Tedros is greasy. You have trouble telling the difference. Good actor.

The implementation of The Idol as part of his artistic catalogue, really made me feel excited, and personally it was a great entry into film on his part, to start a professional filming career. This man has taken inspiration from so many movies, and is a cinephile, and the way he executed the show IMO was of exceptional level, I've still yet to finish it (on Ep 4) but so far it's an impressive debut as a star of a film. His acting was great, the writing, cinematography, and pacing is all great so far.
One thing that many people dont understand, and will look back on years later is that, he caught everyone's attention, and outdid himself yet again, making a show like this is so hard, and reminds me of his Kiss Land era where nearly everyone said it wasn't a good body of work and eventually years later became a cult classic. The Idol will probably fall in the same fate as Kiss Land did back in 2013. Tedros is supposed to be toxic, and disgusting which many viewed as a negative, but that was the point; it was supposed to make u feel uncomfortable, which Sam Levinson and Abel captured very well, but everyone looks past.
His acting was terrible, the story is Bland and boring and goes nowhere and is incoherent. The only good thing about the show is the Cinematography and production design.

I disagree. The show is satiric, it is filled with comedy and criticism. Tedros is not a bad guy and Jocelyn is not the good guy. The show is not about that. I don't understand why people don't know how to separate a real person from a movie character... Of course he could've abstained from comments on twitter, but the guy is only human.
He explicitly complained about the show having too much feminine perspective. It would be easier to separate the character and the actor if the actor didn't explicitly want his piece-of-shit character to be viewed in a better light. That speaks to Abel's character as a person.
If we can judge The Rock for having a "can't lose a fight" clause in his contract, we can judge Abel for being upset his show about abuse focused too much on the "female perspective."
It's not even a good show though which makes it even harder to defend.
