    Here is the video where I did EVERY MAINTENANCE item in the manual:
    • EVERY MAINTENANCE ITEM...
    Safety First! Make sure gas valve is closed and all gas is drained from lines in a safe manner away from all heat sources (garage heater and incandescent bulbs). Ideally entire system is drained or ran dry.
    Make sure motor is secure and cannot tip over
    Inspect all gas lines and carb for gas leaks after reinstalling
    If you have an electric start, unhook it before working

    Are there any way to change oil while on boat and water? Thanks for great videos, learning so much about my mercury!

    Love your positive review of your 6 hp Merc, however I’m trying to start mine now unsuccessfully after a crank case and drive train oil changes. My red light is blinking and I’ve checked every possible obstruction… Shift lever in neutral, prop adequately, submerged in water, etc. I can’t figure it out. I’ve searched the Internet for assistance and your videos are the best but I’m still stuck.

      Man that’s weird. Changing oil shouldn’t impact starting. I would triple check all the obvious stuff like fuel valve, gas tank vent, chock linkage, then try an external tank (vs internal) to rule out gas flow issues. I really can’t see changing the oil as causing a starting problem as long as you have the correct amount of oil

    My 6.0 mercury has been in the garage for 8 years. Your video helped me out a lot because I'm not any kinda fix it guy. I also changed the gas filter and had to fix the tire hub. Any suggestions before I get it back on the water? Thanks

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! The gas is definitely bad; if it still has gas in the lines or carb I would drain all of that and start fresh. If it was stored with gas in the carb you may need to clean the carb.
      I would just put it in a bucket and run it at home for 10-15 mins. If it starts well and runs, hit the water!

      I want to say I flushed all the gas out. Who knows, it was 8 years ago. Yes, I have fresh gas. Thank you again

    Thanks for the vid- what size washer/gasket does the engine oil drain plug take (and where do you get them)? I just get blank stares from my local marine shops and places like amazon seem to only have washers for the lower unit…😵‍💫

    • @Skinnyriver

      I think it’s a #12 8035161 - here is it for $3 www.simmercury.com/oil-drain-plug-washer-8035161/ double check it though

    I just had my engine serviced at a dealer a few trips ago. I checked the oil and it was really high. I drained 20 oz of oil out. Any chance it could have damaged anything?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I think you are ok. It shouldn’t be an issue. If it didn’t smoke a lot then no oil got into the cylinder

    Anyone know where I can get an upper engine cowl for this exact engine?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is it.. but wow ouch over $300. www.boats.net/product/mercury/8M0056433?ref=21c8fec30a356a819b535c450020f6327ff1701c
      I would check at some local marine and boat shops to see is they have a junker or blown motor. Take yours and try a couple different ones to see if an older fits. Can always put new decals on

    Is there a crush washer? Shouldn't it be replaced with every oil change?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a good point, manual says replace if damaged. But it’s so cheap it’s best to buy a bag and change everytime. Sorry I should have mentioned that.
