      Oh no… that’s scary :) I’m not an expert at all but maybe we can learn from each other. Hope you are enjoying the motor

    You do such a good job at keeping it simple and for us not over thinking the project. Just subscribed! Just got a little 3.5hp tohatsu and already have learned a lot for getting confidence on getting in the water. Hell yeah

      Awesome!! I really appreciate the kind words! Means a lot. There’s a lot of negativity on here… people expect you to be a pro mechanic and pro videographer and editor. I’m def not any of those, just enjoy this little outboard and Jon boat hobby! I appreciate the support! If you have any video ideas shoot them my way! Appreciate the support. Get on the water!!!!!

      @@Skinnyriver awesome man will do! I’m still going through your videos and I’ll let you know if there’s something I think is worth talking about. Dude your video quality and editing is actually very impressive. The video of when your son made the lizard lure those clips were unreal.

      @@Skinnyriver Yo I just went out and tested my 3.5 tohatsu motor this morning and I noticed after running it just for a couple minutes it started smoking really bad and losing power and I noticed the impeller wasn’t working and I noticed Where is the motor needs the lower unit it seems to be melted do you have an email address I can send you some pictures I’d like for you to take a look at it and tell me if you think it’s even salvageable that’s pretty bad. I’m super bummed out because I just got that boat and motor for my birthday used it for five minutes and now it’s all messed up.

      That sucks!!! I am sure it’s ok though. Was it new??? Skinnyriveroutdoors@gmail.com send some pics. There also is a small outboard repair group on Facebook that has a bunch of experts “outboard motors advice and tips” join that group. I am sure we can figure it out

    I got the 6hp in this pandemic to have some fun on the water, its been a great success. Your videos are great, made it so easy for people like me having no experience on boat motor. One more question, the gear plug screws (both fill and vent)come with thin steel washers, which donot seem to be crush washers, are they supposed to be replaced with every gear oil change? I could not find correct crush washers. I believe its 8mm, not 3/8inch.

      I don’t replace the washer everytime but it a good idea to do it every 2 or 3 changes. I do wipe everything down and come back the next day to check for drips and leaks. You are right, all Japan made motors like this one (under 25hp is a M8 (not 3/8). Learned this the hard way. I think the plug PN with washer is 953683 PLUG-OIL.

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the washer PN is 95220 - GASKET

      Double check the PN at boats.net (has parts diagram) but here are some on eBay www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-Outboard-Gearcase-Drain-Gaskets-Replaces-27-95220-4-Pack-/133132173409?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

    I didnt see you changing the gaskets. Isnt it mendatory after any change before screwing in the screws?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a hood point, manual says clean inspect and replace if damaged. I plan to buy some though and change them this year. I do wipe everything down and inspect for leaks the next day.

      @@Skinnyriver I ask because Ibhave the same engine along eith a 40hp 2 stroke 98' Yamaha, havent changed the oil yet. Planning to do it next week, however couldnt find washers for this exact engine, so I bought a few for Yamaha/Mercury. If they dont fit I plan to reuse the old ones this time if not damaged

      @vanda477 here is a parts diagram, you should be able to find the part numbers here www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/model/01/860/6%20(4-STROKE)/0p401000-thru-0r411837
