    Excellent gig. Great band and over the top sound! I agree, PreSonus sound ecosystem is fantastic. I use Capture all the time. Not only are the both of you doing a great show, but creating excellent video and its content. The Sound Couple ROCKS!

    i love your videos! im just getting started in the sound world as teenager running sound for my church (RM16AI+CS18AI). I'm trying to convice my paster to get a 32SX. your videos are so helpful to see how you mix and do soundcheck and evaluate PA requirments. I have learnt so much from you guys! watching all the way from new zealand!

      That's great...glad we can help! The RM/CS series is a great platform and miss many aspects of it. The Series 3 is operationally more robust, but the platform of a CS18 controller to a rack mixer is still a superior design.

    We don't take song requests in my cover band. We prepare a set list that we know works and gets people dancing and singing every time. IEMs all the way, we're in the process of transitioning to IEM rehearsals, just played the second gig in a row on pure IEMs, not even a bass amp. Sound for the audience was fantastic compared to the classic monitor amp setup. So much cleaner. Great video as always !

    • @thesoundcouple

      The song request is definitely a conversation...we have experienced where bands were not asked back or fired for not playing what the client or VIP's wanted to hear...unfortunate reality and risk. Appreciate your feedback!

    Another great video guys. Thanks. Although I work with many brands, my personal PA mixers are the Presonus ecosystem. I’ve been working with them since the original studio live boards and love it. Since going digital, the biggest advantage I’ve learned to lean on is the preset capability. I realize how much I appreciate that technology when I have to walk into a sound booth with an old Mackie VLZ, and a rack full of EQ’s and a couple midiverbs all left with the last bands settings. I have a handful of bands I work with that have members showing up a half an hour before go time. I’m pretty confident with no sound check settling the FOH mix in within the first song. The frustrating part is those first few songs being disrupting having to adjust monitor settings for them. But all in all, I guess those are pretty good first world problems to have. Keep up the good work guys.

    Great lessons learned... when you get back home, do not use Armor All on the cabs (or in your car). Armor All leaves everything slippery and the coating will attract more dust/grime. Diluted simple Green works great; for Tolex/vinyl coverings on amps, Meguiar's convertible top cleaner ($10 at Walmart) works great with a brush...

    Our band arrives 2.5 hrs early, but we run our own sound and in-ears typically. If we are not doing sound and just in-ears we arrive 1.5hrs early, and the IEM guy (me) arrives about 2 hours ahead to start interface conversations with FoH. Preference would be to have this conversation well in advance but it seems low communication standards with a lot of House Sound guys.
    Luckily we have 5 saved scenes for our default setups. So we only have to line level check when running our own FoH.

    Requests: We are very interactive with the audience and invite requests. Our cover band prefers the phone method of making requests because (unlike a dj) we cannot have a conversation with them while performing. Request conversations can be disruptive to the performance flow of the gig. We didn't come to the gig without a solid planned setlist. Appropriateness of requests depends on the type of gig. We acknowledge the phone waver and smile. They should go away at that point...
    I personally hate "Conditional Requests" where they hold the $20 over the tip jar and won't drop it until we play their song. We don't play conditional requests. Tips are not payment for requests. Tips are because you had a great time and want to buy the band a tank of gas/drink.
    Great show - I hate when my cables and guitar amp gets dusty...

    Great to see you on deck again - I've been waiting for your next post. Surprised you didn't cover the subs under the stage like @ the firefighter's fundraiser gigs. A damp shammy & some microfibre cloths would come in handy for a quick clean pre bump-out. Would a low flat dolly to maneuver large road cases & subs under stages / flatbeds help avoid damaging / scratching on rough ground surfaces? Thanks again for a great show.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good idea on the flat dolly- sometimes the stage height isn’t always conducive to this. Fortunately since there’s two of us, maneuvering them under doesn’t seem to scratch them too much.
      Agreed! Some sort of cleaning cloth is a must have tool at the end of the night!

    With that voltage drop caused by the AirCon, I would bet the cable running to that power point is undersized for the total load and length of run from the transformer.
    Or possibly there's some loose/corroded connections somewhere in the path (which is annoyingly common in outdoor power distribution that is only occasionally used and even more occasionally maintained)

    Nice video. What was your In-Ear setup for the band? I don't see any monitors?! Do you use Shure for the in ear, PSM300? Do you also provide headphones for in ears or do they connect their own headphones?

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, we supply the PSM 300 system so the band was all IEM. The musicians should provide their own ear buds, but we have extras 😉. We haven't mentioned it lately, but just know that this is a specific arrangement that we have with the band to provide this and we are able to accommodate. The preferred method is for a band to carry their own IEM system.

    Hi Bart and Stacy. Since the band is on in-ears and as a consequence they don’t hear anything other than what’s in the sound system, do they have anything to give a sense of what the crowd is doing/singing? If there are crowd mics, do you supply the microphones or does the band?

I think the one thing we can all share is the frustrating journey it's been for a lot of us. We now have some that work well with all of stage boxes and we are sticking to them!

If the situations are known, and unless there are particular conditions and problems, I prefer to do the sound check and start the show right after. The Band will be much more careful and precise and the sounds will be more in everyone's memory without useless corrections on the fly that only serve to take away everyone's peace of mind.

    As problems with a.c. power plagued the carefully planned set-up for this gig, as usual, The Sound Couple prevailed, taking the disruption with calm grace. This was another great video that gave us insight into how a professional production company handles the unusual nature of this venue.
    Selfishly, because of my background as a fire protection engineer, I particularly enjoyed watching the fire department truck company dismantle the test vehicle using the “Jaws of Life.” The excellently recorded background music highlighted one of the many reasons why the PreSonus universe offers production companies such a wide range of useful options.

      We don't set the prices for most of the gigs we do as we are hired by the bands. We are told what the production budget is and we choose whether or not to take the gig. The bands generally know what we will need so they factor that into what they charge the customers. Sorry, but we really can't provide actual numbers.

      We need to consider priorities in the gear/tools we are investing in. For the amount that we use these subs, we think a lot about the fact that they are paid for and get the job done. Ideally, we would always be working with the gear that makes our lives easier, but the fact remains that's a relative and always moving target that can quickly impact your $$ bottom line.
