      LOVE the 1915! The OGD and Rittenhouse was really good but I tried OGD and Old Forester Rye and like that a little more…trying the others soon. As far as Still Austin, I thought it was meh…tried several store picks and like others better for the money…

    Great blends guys! That Brown Forman Banana Pancakes nose is definitely unreal. 1910/WRDO as a blend base with some proof (JDSBBP) or age (Window Jane 10) is definitely a hard to beat combo. We appreciate the shoutout!

    Love it, especially since I can make all of these! Suggestion for future episode: Testing alternatives to hard to get bottles. For example, to me Sagamore Double Oak has a very similar flavor profile to Michter's 10 year Rye, the Sagamore being a little sweeter.

    This is a great premise and I will mix on occasion but usually to try to mimic something I don't have but am craving. Generally I try to appreciate the masters who put out a bottle. Not exactly as a respect thing, but I do respect what they do. Learning appreciation for another's ideal is a journey of its own. The best whiskey is the whiskey YOU like the way you like it.

    Easy way to do a blind with 2 people.
    First person pours randomly and writes down on their own paper where each dram went.
    Second person doesn't know what was poured where, switches the glasses around in a random order and writes down where they switch each one to.
    Neither party knows where the samples went.

    A very entertaining, thoughtful, and earnest video! It almost makes me want to go out and buy these bottles and create my own "adult chemistry set." LOL! The one that intrigued me the most is the OGD BIB + Rittenhouse, because it is always intriguing to try and create something more interesting out of two simpler spirits (although I think OGD BIB is a very solid bottom shelf option). It comes across as a very high rye bourbon, almost reminiscent of Four Roses Single Barrel. For those that like a sharper spicy bourbon, they could like this alot. However, I got to thinking about those that might want a subtler experience, and I was very happy with the OGD BIB paired with a softer rye...Sazerac. While Sazerac is great making Sazeracs, it is a "low rye" that often lacks the body and flavor to stand up to other ryes in blind tasting. But the soft, round sweetness of Sazerac actually adds that round sweetness to the sharper edges of the OGD. I'm very happy with that substitution. I only let it sit an hour, so maybe two weeks will make a difference. Maybe the OGD will overwhelm it, time will tell. FYI!

      Hmmmm now that’s the 1 million dollar question!
      I really did like the our favorite.
      The 1915 is such a hard question because I love OF 1920!
      I would have to say the ogd bib and Rittenhouse was better than both bottles individually.
      Prudent Pappy from the previous show was definitely better than both bottles!

    • @xiamengbaby
      @xiamengbaby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@slbdrinks Thanks, I'll have to give those two a try. I have the OGD BIB and the Maker's Cask Strength in stock. The Rittenhouse is cheap and easy to obtain. I just gave away my Larceny, lol. But I'm sure I can borrow a bit back for the sake of science.

    • @xiamengbaby
      @xiamengbaby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@slbdrinks Yeah, I really like the OF 1920 too. I have a bottle of that in stock but not the 1910. I'm not excited to pay $60 for the sweeter, lower proofed 1910. Maybe I'll try subbing some Woodford Double Oaked for the 1910 into the "1915 blend" and see how that goes. Widow Jane 10 year goes for $75 by me. That price to proof ratio also turns me off. I think that one is 91 proof. It sounded like an interesting blend you had with that one, but I think I will have to pass on that one.

    Although it's sort of a pain, there's a way to blind taste with 2 people. The first person pours the glasses and notes which position in the line up each pour was (while guy #2 is not looking), then guy #2 switches in and shifts the glasses around (while guy 1 isn't looking) then notes where each glass went in the line. Or you can use tape rather than moving glasses around. Then you compare notes at the end

    Made me think about how to improve my daily drinker WT101. With its sturdy powerful flavors could it be improved with something juicy, fruity? Maybe Jack Daniels Single Barrel or Bonded? Or Blanton’s but then not a daily drinker anymore. Substitute WT101 with Early Times BIB and same thing to try

    • @BigBadJerryRogers
      @BigBadJerryRogers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can't say I have any suggestions but I was also curious if anything would work for the wt101. I guess it just comes down to what is distinct in other bourbons that you like and what would pair with what you like about the 101.

    • @slbdrinks
      @slbdrinks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand. WT has a pretty specific flavor profile. Most love but some really dislike it. Mixing any bottles in the WT family is the easy answer. I would be curious in blending coopers craft 100 proof and the 101.
