I trust your reviews over anything on the internet. I wish there was an SLB APP with a video review of every bourbon. And thanks for continuing to review "gettable" bourbon.
Hi! I'm a senior in college majoring in Computer Science. My dad is a fan of your channel and watches your videos often. If you're interested, I would be happy to work with you to build an app!
Tomorrow I get to celebrate, it’s my last chemo therapy session. 😊😊😊 Just found a Makers 101 at Binny’s running over to pick it up right after my session. 🎉🎉🎉
Visited ASW last week and tried the Fiddler Amburana. Without seeing this episode, told the bartender the same thing "Tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal". This is now my favorite offering with Duality 2nd.
I'd love to see a 10 year blind with eagle, widow, Henry, and a couple others you guys enjoy! The maker's 101 is a great value over the regular maker's for not much more money, but the added depth and complexity it's a no brainer I wouldn't even buy a regular maker's again.
@@grantyoung3076 and a Russell 10 would probably round out a really nice blind! I wish I had all 5 to try myself! I personally really enjoy that around 10 year age range ahead of anything else.
@@dramandrive I have a bottle of Russell's 10 that I just can't get into. I hear people praising it, but to me it just doesn't compare to Eagle Rare. Granted, the only Eagle rare bottle I've had was a single barrel, and it was really, really good.
@@matthewdohrmann nothing wrong with that, I don’t blame you, I’m not a huge turkey fan myself so I haven’t bought the Russell yet. I can get Knob 9 and WT101 for the same price and I would take Knob all day in that comparison!
Ok now this is EXACTLY what I want to hear about when I get a review of an off the radar choice, actual prominent flavor notes that are very bold like you described. I have no interest in the next big thing that costs $60 plus unless there's something that's going to really punch like you have described with a vanilla or a chocolate or whatever they're really going for.
Awesome review as always boys…I picked up Widow Jane 10 year a few weeks ago at a local Bottle King for $69. I think it’s a great bourbon for the age statement and price. The “underrated bourbon reviews” should be a regular series on your channel! Cheers!
I can't decide which of you two I like the best. You guys are my "go to" authorities because we must have the same nose and taste buds. Thanks for all you guys do. Never miss a show.
Another great video! I would love to see you do another round of the best bourbon's under $__, but with a twist like bourbon madness where the winner of a $20 round would be promoted up to the $30 round, etc... Maybe even broaden the brackets with multiple groups at each level to get some more variety.
I love reviews such as this one. Bourbons that can be found for under $100. There are so many great bourbons out there in this category that I don't think I will ever spend 3 figures for a bottle. I've tried pours of some expensive bourbons and frankly didn't enjoy them any more than one of my lower price favorites. Thanks for highlighting these bottles.
Thanks for this great review. Love seeing labels outside the big name labels. Just picked up WJ 10yr, batch 705 and Clyde Mays 6 yr. $60 and $53 respectively at my local Lukas Liquor in Kansas City. Stoked to get into them.
Just tracked down a bottle of the ASW Amburana. All the notes you mentioned are there. It's spicy but not overly. Drinks under proof in a good way. Great recommendation!
Blue Note Juke Joint uncut & unfiltered is one of my favorite "not so well known" choices lately. I would love to see more of these style videos that shine the spotlight on lesser known bottles. Have either of you tried Black Maple Hills Small Batch?? I'm intrigued by the bottle but it's a bit expensive to try for the first time.
8:41 I bought a bottle of Makers101 back in November. I immediately next day ordered 3 more bottles to make sure I have it. This release in my opinion better that my small batch E. H . Taylor.
WJ at 70 may taste better to Trenton but Eagle is still low 30 s here in Texas - hard to justify the cost difference..but WJ is on the shelf everyday so that is an offset to the Eagles availability! Thanks for the thought provoking episode!
I've noticed this too. I can pick up WJ at any ABC store in North Carolina. I have three bottles of Eagle Rare (my wife and I stood in line for our chance at it). I've never tasted WJ, but I do like Eagle Rare!
Thanks y'all for this video! Based on your comments, I bought a bottle of Widow Jane...and agree with your comments!! A great find...and for about 30 bucks less than what y'all noted for retail!!
Another great episode from SLB Drinks. Widow Jane Decadence is one of my favorites, so I think it's time to try the WJ ten year. You can find it here in South Carolina between $75-$80 bucks. Everybody Take Care.
Widow Jane released a 10 year anniversary edition. It comes in 100 proof and those extra 9 proof points are great. If you get a chance I recommend picking it up.
Just picked up a bottle of Widow Jane at Damon's Beverage in Augusta, Maine. Wanted to try it and the price was right 67.99. Really like it, the wife and I had a pour of it that evening. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I love all the ASW love. They have so many unique products! I also appreciate that you guys talk about stuff I've never heard of - not the usual suspects.
They won’t say but based on flavors I’m convinced most Widow Jane whiskey comes from Sazerac (BT). I felt that the first time I visited back in like 2017. They have some of their own but it’s mostly only available in NY. I have a bottle of their Baby Jane that I have enjoyed.
Been following since about 50k which wasn’t that long ago and just happened to look at sub count…. Holy cow! Well deserved for all of you over at SLB. So close to 100k and I’m so happy for you all!
Love the video and knowing more about many of the bottles we probably all walk right by but shouldn’t. Thanks for giving them a little spotlight. Always interested in more like this! Cheers!
I'm so glad Widow Jane is getting some love. I fell in love with it when I worked at Binny's and it's one I can bring to a friends house to impress. The Barrel Selects from Binny's can be hit and miss. Mostly hits but I had one that was just wet cardboard for me. Give it a try one day and you won't be dissapointed!
My WJ10 tastes like iced vanilla soft sugar cookies and oak. It's super high on the vanilla, white sugar, cookie dough, and butterscotch with dry oak background. I really like it. It was a new bourbon taste to me compared to my 60-some or more other bottles.
I love a good glass of bourbon/whiskey. I haven't ever seen any of these save for the Makers Mark which I love. That Clyde May's looks like it was delicious. I have seen the other iterations just not the special reserve. Great video!
Sounds like I've got a few bottles to start hunting, that Widow Jane sounds interesting, I wonder how much flavour drift there will be when they move from sourced to their own liquid down the line...
Hard time picking up vanilla? Try this: pick up a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 and find a vanilla bean. Drop the whole bean straight in the full bottle. Wait a week. Thank me later.
Widow Jane was the second bourbon that I thoroughly enjoyed, when I started trying out whiskey. Right behind Knob Creek's 9 year. To me, it tastes like a vanilla/cherry Dr. Pepper.
Great learning about bourbons that are in other places. For a 10 yr, Russell's Reserve is hard to beat both on flavor and price. Would love to see ASW on the shelves in Louisiana!!!
I was gifted a bottle of Widow Jane 10 Year by my dad. I think it's immaculate. It's nutty and rich. Wish it was a little higher proof, but I can't put the stuff down. Have almost killed it in a month, and I baby most of my bottles. Great stuff if you can find it.
I really love these videos! For a new bourbon drinker like me, these videos are so full of knowledge and make me want to try all of them! Especially the one from Atlanta because that's very near where I live!
Who doesn’t love a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?! 😂 Gonna have to try that Fiddlers! Love 101 neat and I use it as the bourbon in my homemade spiked egg nog!
Purchased the Widow Jane late summer for $75. First pour I was so disappointed. Had a funk taste on the finish that made me wince. First thoughts were my palate was off but flavor on another bourbon pour was spot on. Placed it on the shelf and forgot about til a few weeks later giving it another try. The funk was gone but nothing special about the flavor. Few weeks later, the next pour was better. Only bottle I’ve purchased that was exponentially better on the next pour til the last.
Another nice video! I really prefer the 13 WJ over the 10 and price point is not much higher at all. It’s not nearly as thin and a bit more classic taste as I find the 10 actually proofy for where it’s at. A couple of other “Not underrated / not talked about”: Frank August. May be hard to find now but at $65 it is purportedly a BiB, but because it’s undisclosed on source they could not put on that label. It’s is quintessential bourbon. Not saying it’s the greatest bourbon you’ll ever have ( though it’s quite excellent and I rate highly), it just is a bourbon drinkers bourbon. Another is Luca Mariano. They do a SiB bourbon and SiB rye as well as a slightly “more exclusive” signature bourbon bottle. About $60 and it’s quite rich with some vanilla and stronger oak notes … some cherry on finish. Last would be Hillrock (Not Rock Hill … LOL) out of NY. They distill and have their own grain floor on premise. The rye is a huge cedar bomb which is quite rich and not something I want everyday, but quite unique. I prefer the Solera as the cedar note is tamed down quite a bit and more classic flavors come in. Not cheap … $100, but nice to have on the shelf. I could do a few more, but will stop here. Keep up the great entertainment!
Would love a video on Japanese whiskies! Been wanting to try some but don’t really know where to start. Always see them up on that top shelf behind you too.
Eagle Rare drops every 5-7 weeks up here in PA state stores at 29.99 and after taxes you're looking at 3 bottles almost compared to 1 bottle of widow Jane (~96 for 3 ERs compared to mid 80s for WJ). Not a chance I pick the WJ over that. Unfortunately it's still tough to get and you have to be on your game anticipating drops but you just can't beat the price of the Eagle at retail.
Interesting set. Thanks for the review. Liked the mention of Old Granddad and Cooper's Craft at the beginning. I can get Eagle Rare 10 for $30 sometimes!
Follow pretty much all the popular whiskey channels and you guys are my favorite. Thanks guys. bought bottles from what you guys review and never been disappointed. Especially here in Hawaii I need good reviews because the prices are sometimes triple the price as you guys pay. So I do appreciate you guys. Keep it up. Happy new year
I love MM101 so it's kinda cool that it shows up here. I snagged a Widow Jane Decadence this weekend based on how much Trenton loves it and boy is that a tasty whiskey. Great video guys! Cheers!
First time I've seen anybody talk about Old Tarr! I had it a year ago or more and really enjoyed it. Also neat that you're just barely north of me and always interesting to see what you think of the products my work place puts out
I like everything in the Maker's lineup except for the entry level bottle. I think 46 is a big step up as is the 101, Cask Strength, and especially the 46 Cask Strength. When I think of a good 10-year, I think of Russell's Reserve, and its half the price of Widow Jane. Just wondering how you think the Widow Jane compares to the Russell's 10? Out of these 5, I have only had the Maker's 101.
I'm like your friend, I love most Maker's Mark products, but can't see the justification for the price increase to the 46. The MM 101 is quite a step up from the 86 proof, imo, and hits that sweet spot for higher proof bourbons; well worth it. My buddy loves the WJ 10-year and always has it around, so I don't necessarily need to buy that one myself. For some reason, Clyde May products don't sell well here, and always end up in the discount bin at my favorite store, but I might have to search out that 5-year red label.
"I'm not a nut connoisseur or anything"...LOL Sure wish I could find that Widow Jane 10 year here north of the border in Ontario - would love to taste that! Thanks guys - great video!!
Great video and topic. Old elk lineup is one I don't hear alot about and not sure I've seen you guys cover. Would love to see that one in your future review lineup.
I had a pour of the Tarr at the storefront they have in Lexington, KY. It was good but just didn't wow me for the price. Maybe I need to give it a second go. Aside from the Tarr and the MM101 have not tried the others. Will be on the lookout!
Love the accessibility of these videos and (most of) the whiskies you feature! Cheers from a fellow Midwesterner! Hope you guys do a video on Bardstown Origin Series soon, their Bottled in Bond wheater is great!
Eagle Rare 10yr $39.99 and Widow Jane 10yr $62.95 ($89.95 for the 100 proof version) for me so I have a few bottles of Eagle Rare, but no Widow Jane. I would buy Widow Jane Decadence in a heartbeat, but OOS in my area and it goes for $99. I may pick up some other Widow Jane products as my spot has Widow Jane Rye Oak & Apple Wood Aged for $37.99 and Widow Jane Rye American Oak Aged for $39.99.
I got to try the Oak & Eden Amburana finished whiskey at a special tasting and have wanted more ever since! Fingers crossed I can find that eventually or something else that is using amburana as a finishing wood. I agree that once I had tasted Maker's 101, I have no reason to go back to regular Maker's if I can help it.
Great video guys. I don't have any of those bottles so it was educational. Of the five discussed, I've only ever seen the MM 101 and WJ 10 year here in Rhode Island. The price of the WJ always turned me off, but I might have to reconsider. I'll definitely be picking up the MM 101 though. As always, thanks for the great content.
I'm 24, so really developing my Bourbon palet still but nevertheless, these videos are very interesting and actually have helped a lot to navigate through the whiskey section. I've been feeling around a 90 proof but still haven't found my favorite flavor. Oh and I'm from Alaska so got a bit of a different selection.

When I think of a good 10-year, I think of Russell's Reserve, and its half the price of Widow Jane. Just wondering how you think the Widow Jane compares to the Russell's 10? Out of these 5, I have only had the Maker's 101.
Great video today. Lots of new ideas to try.
Just picked up wj 10 2 days ago. A lot of balanced flavors for 90 proof
Great content once again! Cheers!
I had a pour of the Tarr at the storefront they have in Lexington, KY. It was good but just didn't wow me for the price. Maybe I need to give it a second go. Aside from the Tarr and the MM101 have not tried the others. Will be on the lookout!
Since I'm in Georgia I'm going to see if I can find Fiddler. From the tasting notes it sounds interesting. By the way the spiny herb is rosemary.
Love the accessibility of these videos and (most of) the whiskies you feature! Cheers from a fellow Midwesterner! Hope you guys do a video on Bardstown Origin Series soon, their Bottled in Bond wheater is great!
I picked up Old Forester 100 this weekend on your recommendation. Big thumbs up!
Another great video fellas. Thanks as always for the down to Earth reviews!
Haven't seen the Makers 101 but Makers Cask Strength is an absolute BANGER.
Koval amburana finished rye is nice if you’re around Chicago .. might be online too
Great video guys.
This one was fun because you have a few I've not heard of. I have some things to keep an eye out for now.
Funny I just got a bottle of that exact ASW have not cracked it open yet, can’t wait.
Nice content in this one. Gave me some things to look for.
My nephew lives in North Pole AL and has a career in the Alaska air national guard.
