hate how youtube is forcing content creators to censor content that was never made for younger audiences in the first place
many creators are probably in that very shitty place where their viewers prefer the content that TH-cam and it's algorithm deem less valuable. So if they don't change they get paid less/less recommended etc, and if they do they loose fans = same effect.

I know it's not the grumps fault, it's purely TH-cam's, but...this is hard to watch. I feel mostly bad for Arin considering 70% of his vocabulary is every different way to say "dick" or referring to the sucking of said dick. And that's what's great about him. It's probably a real buzzkill for him.
I don't even blame TH-cam for this. Just like GameGrumps are changing how they handle certain words in order to keep getting the money that they need, so is TH-cam changing how they handle those words in order to keep getting the money that they need. The advertisers that give TH-cam their income are the ones insisting on keeping their ads off the videos with content they consider objectionable. I don't know enough about how big advertisers make their decisions to understand their reasoning.

Flame Soulis I ~believe~ only a certain amount of time at the beginning of the video needs to be censored. TH-cam doesn’t actually list what it’s “offensive language” includes and since the Grumps will be demonetized if they don’t block the words, they just have to for a bit into videos. They have been saying over their Undertale genocide run that they’re just going to try not to swear so they don’t need to put annoying cuts in. Hopefully TH-cam gets over itself though.

I do a community radio show and I do it like Metalocalypse--replacing the word with a chord from the same song, it's seamless, and my listeners tell me that they didn't notice until I told them it's a censored track.
Allegedly the youtube algorithm can detect harsh bleeps now so even if you censor with those it still gets recognized as swearing and demonetized. Unfortunately while silence makes it a less pleasant listening experience it's either that or no money for the video.
@@bjp7976 The harsh "bleep" sound is even worse than silence, nobody wants that. I think everybody just prefers when Ben puts a fun sound effect or voice clip for the censors, like in the Zelda TP videos. It's a little more work for him but worth it.
I mean they should just replace it with some random game grumps reference. like every censorship word is just danny going THE MONEY or arin saying LAAURA etc. I mean it's a lot of editing, but once they have a folder of all the cuts it would be easy. They already have to edit out the audio as it is so once they have a library of funny reference words they could splice them in no problem. It's a comedy show so inserting random words is part of comedy.
I honestly believe the censorship wouldn't be too bad if they dubbed something funny over it.
I know it would be more work, but I think it's pretty obvious that people aren't happy with the censoring. I know personally that the cut audio feels more like a broken video than anything.

Yeah it really sucks. TH-cam used to be where independent creators could make whatever they wanted (obviously still within reason) and it's awful how much control youtube has now. They have youtube kids for a reason, I don't see why they should be so strict with stuff like language. They're gonna eventually ruin themselves completely by chasing viewers and creators away.

It's not TH-cam though.... it's the corporations who want to run ads through youtube. Now we see a trickle down effect because Colgate doesn't want their brand associated with "mature content" so TH-cam had to create separate categories for content. The worst part is - swearing isn't the only thing that can get you ad restricted and many of this year's upcoming video games will be off limits because it's considered "violent" which is going to pair down game grumps to kids content...

What kills me about the censorship is that it poisons the very essence of what I love about Game Grumps. I've always admired and respected Arin for taking the simple concept of two best buds hanging out and playing video games and turning it into a legitimate company. I've been a subscriber since the beginning and it came into my life at a point where I was moving forward with college and figuring out what to do with my life, while slowly growing away from my dear friends from high school. Game Grumps captured that feeling of fun and friendship, the conversations that's trail off into blissful nonsense that got us all in stitches, and yes, the relaxed state where we could curse freely without feeling any stigma. Grumps held out the longest when the whole algorithm mess started and I felt unease when they started being mindful of the first minuet. This...this feels like the spirit has died. Like the natural energy that made Game Grumps something special has been sucked away. It's like losing another friend.

There will never be a video platform as good as TH-cam, because no one tracks your data and have such a amazing profile on you for advertisers than Google , it's the only way Google even breaks even on this stupid site, by using all your personal data to sell you things, and while other sites try to be unbiased or open source or "made for content creators" which are great things but unfortunately advertisers could care less about that kinda shit, so unfortunately TH-cam isn't going anywhere and will continue to have a monopoly

I don't know who you mean by "they" but these compilations aren't done by the grumps, they're fan compiled and edited.
even if they algorithm can detect certain censors, the grumps could have easily recorded some filler words to be used at the censors since they went through the effort of cutting out ... most of the censors. They missed a few of them through out this video.
I fully understand why they are going to start not cussing, but I'm super bummed about it.

TH-cam specifically told everyone that words like 'fuck' etc were okay, and they were only going to flag you for trigger words that offend snowflakes. still an outrage but kinda moot given the kind of people that do youtube videos.
But just like how Japan said the new censorship laws would specifically exclude certain examples understood to be commonly acceptable, and then turned around and immediately affected those exact examples, you can't trust anyone telling you what you can or can't say. they will never stop. see also the comics code.
They try to hide behind 'this is what we have to do to make money' but as their customerbase, we need to tell them what community standards are. Not let them tell us.

I understand censoring but there's gotta be a better way than blips of silence. I seriously thought the video was just buffering the first few times. It's very jarring to listen to.
I think replacing curse words is a lot better than cutting out the audio all together, even if it was the same word with everything
Given these compilations are more of a result of trying to please The Algorithm and drive new subs to old series, I can't imagine the editing in this being anything more than a result of it being an absolute CHORE to assemble.
For all we know they were going to replace the swearing but ran out of time (all the more evidenced by the non-censored swears that slipped through).
Montages are fun when they're made by someone who genuinely wanted to make one. This feels more like a result of Where TH-cam Is At Today than content someone at GG was passionate about making.
I agree with you, but the Grumps didn't make this compilation (creator is linked in the description) so I don't think they had control on how the audio was going to be censored

I am not sure if TH-cam is truly dying since there is no serious competition for videos longer than a few seconds, but it's contents and content creators are most likely to drastically change.

I think the TH-cam robots only check a couple of minutes in maybe, so it's just the start that's censored. I've checked throughout the rest of the video and it doesn't seem to be censored.
TH-cam only checks the first couple of minutes for swears, so they can swear later on.
