And also the fact that you promote therapy for both of you..I wish you were local to me. Would love nothing more than to connect and minister to those that need it!!!
I have learned that breakfast is arbitrary. My great Aunt once told me that when she and my uncle married, they just ate the same thing they had for dinner the night before. I also like to see what other cultures eat for breakfast. It opens up loads of ideas.
As a Christian I will say to be mindful with Christian therapists. I say this due to recent issues within the LDS church and what I dealt with. Make sure they are fully licensed and follow state and federal rules.
Praying for your family, Mindy. Love your videos. My husband and I began eating two meals a day a couple months ago. We both have lost a few pounds that we really needed to lose since implementing this, and it saves some money too. I have just started delaying grocery trips to use more out of our pantry. Part of me has a fear of food shortages, so I get nervous if the pantry is too bare.
I really appreciate you speaking so matter of factly about receiving counselling. Hearing people candidly about choosing therapy helps reduce stigma. Thank you very much. Praying for your family her in Brisbane Australia
I did this yesterday. We just got back from a week-long vacation. I did not shop the week before the trip and used all of the perishable items prior to our trip. I am going to use a lot of freezer and pantry items this week. Three weeks not grocery shopping will definitely help offset the cost of eating out during the trip.
Morning Mindy!! I have been applying the " give the once or twice over and make use of what you currently have first". This has, over the last few weeks, stretched things out enough for use to make it to our next budgeted shopping session. Keep 'em coming you WONDERFUL lady you. My husband thinks I can see the Matrix with how I am budgeting and keeping meal plans in line.😂
I LOVE 🧡 talking walks! I on purpose will not let myself listen to anything on my phone. I use it as prayer time, listening to God, and time to decompress or get my mind in focus.
I appreciate you and your channel so much. We have chosen a job change so my husband can have every weekend off. He is a new Christian and being in church more than 1 a month for him is a blessing but we took a change in pay so if I can save just a little money it really helps. Thanks again for your co tent
Hi Mindy. I’ve been watching for while and I love your content and positive focus. I appreciate your commitment to be a good steward of your finances and help us all have yummy meals. Your hard work shows! As a professional Christian counselor for over 30 years (PhD and LPC-S in Texas), I also appreciate your support of counseling. I’m so thankful to see first-hand how the church at large is understanding it’s just as acceptable to seek mental-health help as it is to seek physical-health help. I am praying the Lord will comfort and strengthen you all. He’s already ordered your steps and will lead, guide and provide. Blessings 💛🙏🏼.
I just want to say thank you! It has been such a huge blessing for me and my family to find and watch your channel. I’ve learned and implemented so much into our family grocery shopping routine. We are keeping your family in our prayers. Many blessings!
Ive noticed the little cucumbers dont last too long in fridge ,, i wash and cut up ,, put vinegar n dill spice ,,, they get gobbled up fast ,, requested for lunch box too . 😀
Mindy, I am keeping you and your family in my prayers since you shared several weeks ago about the job change. Thanks for sharing. I like the food hunts you did today. I have found myself doing the same thing when I just DON'T want to go shopping.
Praying for you guys and We complete understand as pastor kids family . Since now my father is bishop of our church we are doing well. Our family just twice of month shopping hauls. But mostly we do huge meat haul at the beginning of the month so that helps in our budget
You and Daniel make such a terrific team, and no wonder - you're both incredible, authentic people who truly want to serve your communities, whether it's a local one or a social one. Truly, I watch a ton of home-life channels, and yours is absolutely #1 for me in every way. I wish you and your family all of the blessings God has in store for you!
Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words. It is really encouraging and helps me keep going with my endeavors here, which revolved around being helpful and real and relatable. :)
First of all GO BLUE! When I meal prep a following week, I look what is left for vegetables and make sure to use those up in a dinner or two. We typically don't have a lot of left overs. Just enough for 1 or 2 people for lunch the next day. I do however meal plan with left overs in mind when we have a busier week so I don't have to cook as much that next day. And that has helped with food waste too.
Very rarely do I have breakfast food for breakfast but we have breakfast for dinner all the time. 😂 It just tastes better at the end of the day I guess! I did my own little pantry challenge a few months ago and managed to “find” over eight days of dinners in my fridge, freezer and pantry. It was a real eye-opener for me! To have that much just laying around! 🤦♀️
Such important and overlooked points! I'm getting better at checking fridge, freezer, and pantry before buying anything. Still have some waste/spoilage. It's way down over the last five years, and I keep a tally of the "value" of food I'm throwing out or composting. That makes inefficiencies clear as glass. This was a great garden year, so I've learned to can (water-bath) a fair amount and will start this week (Thursday) on a no-grocery or restaurant spending challenge. That will help me break the overfull fridge and cabinet cycle, so I can clear space and SEE what all options are. PS - Many friends and family members will receive gifts from the garden for Christmas. Everyone can use tasty fruits and vegetables, and none will end up on a shelf catching dust.
I have been inspired to really watch my kitchen more from you and another wonderful woman and I noticed that I haven't even spent my grocery allotment yet this month! I do also allot funds for outside (because I'm a student and I just cannot seem to do leftovers at school, so I pivoted and budgeted). Thank you for sharing and helping people like me change my mindset and do better with what I have. (P.S. I use leftovers in a chicken soup base at night and it works!)
I started pushing off my grocery shop. I went 13 days between shopping trips. 3 adults 2 asd kids we have been spending 1000+. I'm trying to get us to 750. I started with when we run out of milk or eggs then I will go. I keep a running list of ideas of what I can make with what's on hand. When I shop I do have a menu plan to supplement what I don't.
I ate a BLT this morning for breakfast because it sounded good to me. In all honesty it two slices of toast, leftover bacon, 1 small garden tomatoe (that need to be used), mayo. [Was out of lettuce 😢] You know what....It was one of the best breakfasts I have had recently!! I always hate when people say specific food can only be eaten at specific times of day or seasons. Just like if I want pumkin pie for my birthday in April...you better believe I'm making a pumpkin pie for my birthday.
I make a pumpkin spice cake in the middle of summer every year. It's my partner's favorite and that's when his birthday is. I'm with you on this: Who cares if it's out of season?
Love this idea. We also try and do a full clean and wipe down of our fridge when we come back from vacation and it’s at its emptiest. Not spring cleaning when it might be full, but when it’s at its barest. Check expiration dates on things and access what needs to be used ASAP. ❤
Thanks for talking a bit about the fact that a lot of people have to do grocery shopping on a particular day. I typically have to do my big shopping trips on Saturday or Sunday. It definitely takes some discipline, but I try to make myself use up what I already had on hand first before breaking into the new groceries. Yesterday's dinner was a bit of a use it up dinner, and tonight I made chicken noodle soup, which was still on my meal plan from last week.
Mindy , I am a huge University of Michigan football fan !!! I live in Battle Creek Mi but grew up in the capital city of Lansing - I was excited to see you visited our wonderful state btw Go Tigers !!!
hubby and I are retired. and depending on the time of the month I may not use up the things I purchased . So before they go bad. I figure out what I can make with them. like last week we had Dr. appointments so we got home late (after dealing traffic) I didn't feel like cooking and didn't have enough time. I'm a diabetic so I try to eat dinner no later then a certain time. Any way I had all colors of peppers, zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms and some left over rice. I didn't have enough of them for anything. but put them together. I also found a package of egg roll wrappers. So we had veggies and rice spring rolls. they turned out great, I also have had small amounts of veggies that need to be used and I had taken out polish sausage and tossed them together. Hubby says he wouldn't mind both of the once or twice a month. hubby has had some trouble with his heart and also a pace maker. So you work with what you have. I'm lucky he isn't a picky eater.
$1400! Is a VERY big deal! It is difficult to cook for 2 after feeding a growing athlete (& his friends) for so long is HARD. When I cook too much, we try hard to eat the leftovers! I've committed to putting together half of the week's meals each week from things we need to eat in the frig/pantry. It makes a HUGE difference. Im going to tracking the savings just for fun❤
@SeeMindyMom I only had one (big and hungry) son but I grew up with every weekend cooking with my aunts and grandmother for the entire family. At least 18 people. Cooking small is hard!
I was so proud of myself I was able to hold off a week and a half without going to grocery store with using up stuff in fridge, freezer and pantry. I could have pushed a little longer but I was ready to go get the little things lol.
Benefits of being a couple who both hate shopping: We rarely go to the grocery store before at least one staple item is nearing emergency status. 😄 There's no schedule. There's "do we have to?" and "Are we sure we can't put it off a little longer?"
Hi Mindy Thanks so much for doing what you do I really love how you share so much that we all can relate too and it’s so appreciated cause what ever the situation is you let us know we are not alone My prayers go out to you and the family in your future endeavors God Bless😊❤️👍
We had leftovers for breakfast one day before going grocery shopping. My child then loudly said at the register “mom we didn’t have breakfast today! Why didn’t you feed us breakfast!?” I was so embarrassed. 😅
Just noticed something. You have such pretty eyes! May God help you use them to see your path clearly as you walk through this challenging time. Big love and hugs to you - you are seen and you matter!
Oh, you treated yourself to Zingerman's while in Ann Arbor! We used to live in Ann Arbor. I miss me some Zingerman's every now and again! Best blondies ever! ❤
We split a sandwich and it was delicious. Really cool place. Had we not been leaving that same day we might have purchased a few snacks to take back to the hotel.
Its so nice to see a Christian family showing the ups and DOWNS of life!! people think just because were Christians that our life is always great and awesome and its not the case but that in the end we know that God will never fail us ♡♡
Joan from Joan’s pointed plate tagged yiu in a video back in 2019, I’m watching all her videos from the beginning so I thought I would check you out too!
Ohmigosh!!! Mindy!!! Haaalllllp!! I need help!! A few weeks ago, I made ribs in my crock pot - ugh, and they burned. Still edible kind of burn, I didn’t need to put them under the broiler or on the grill for a char - if you know what I’m sayin’.😊 but!! It has taken me absolutely everything to get the burnt bits out of the corners of the pot. I have used baking soda/vinegar fizz; soaked over night, I have boiled water on high for 2 hours (and scraped and scraped) - which helped a lot! and, I have soaked in Dawn power wash. That bbq sauce I used, obviously had gorilla glue in it. Any suggestions on how to clean the crock pot so that future dinners don’t taste like burnt bbq??? Or should i just save the ache in the arms and get a new one?!?!
Hi Mindy! My husband and I love your videos and get so excited when we see another one has uploaded....we watch you then 30 rock or Modern family! Haha! Inquiring minds want to know... what is your family's grocery budget per month? We are also a fam of 5 and we shoot for $1200.
That's a tough question because it's not an apples to apples comparison. I have a business that revolves around making food content, so our grocery budget is different than if it weren't my job to cook and make videos about it! :) 5 years ago, before I had a channel it was around 750, and that was with younger kids. With an inflation and their growth, I would say 1000-12000 would be a moderate budget for our family now, given the current prices in our area.
How please How do you grocery budget for your family and to include school lunch snacks for 3 kids and still kinda have to have some kind of snacks (junk bc that's what they are eating) food for nieces and nephews?
I ask bc the extended fam comea over, and their 2 girls constantly rad my pantry, and it is 9 times outta 10 my kids' school snacks! I have nowhere else to hide them in my house!
I've been skipping whole weeks of shopping unless there is a really good item on sale to stock up on. I'll meal plan for what we have in the fridge or freezer. It's nice not spending that extra $80-100 a week. ( 2 adults and a toddler here) I'm sure it was a difficult decision for your husband. God has other plans for where he said be. God bless
Noticed the devotionals in your video. Does your husband have any recommendations for a men’s devotional? Any suggestions is much appreciated. Best of luck to your husband in his next endeavor.
I’m not sure what reading plan he’s in now. He tends to work his way through the psalms while following a reading plan related to our current sermon series.
Waste is the one area I'm really good at not having. I think it's part of the reason I'm able to keep our budget to $200 a month for just food for the 2 of us. We had swiss steak Saturday night, Sunday night we had scrambled eggs with the left over potatoes, veggies and sauce as a side.
My monthly budget for 3 adults is $400. About $125 of it is meat and most of the rest is fresh produce. We cut our meat portions down about a third from what most of the recipes call for to stretch them further across the month. 2 times a week we go meatless and use other forms of protein like beans.
@@crazycatslave impressive….I spend more than that on two of us…what are your dinners you cook for a month? I find breakfasts are low cost as we eat yogurt and normally leftover dinners for lunch…
I think assuming that you will still spend $200 a shopping trip is a bit disingenuous. If you go longer without going to the store more staples will also be used up, upping that cost.
That's the whole point. To use up the odds and ends that would normally be missed, pushed to the back of the fridge and possibly wasted. She specifically says she doesn't empty her fridge. Then, yes you keep your normal budget the same. If you can't accomplish this, that's fine. She even talks about waiting a single day. I've been doing it for years. And it seems to work for the masses in the comments section.
Here’s a crazy challenge for you, we don’t have power and won’t for quite some time, what would be an efficient grocery haul for family dinners for a week with no refrigerator 😂😂😂😂😂😂 (gas stove so yes I can cook I just light it with a match)
If you scroll back a ways on my content page, you will find some "emergency meals" videos. These are meals I put together with shelf stable ingredients so they can be made if you have a heat source, but you don't have to keep the ingredients refrigerated. :)
Mindy I don't know where to post this question I hope you can help me with I tried on messenger on your fb page but I got a response in an Asian language I feel pretty certain that wasn't you 😂 I didn't want to make this public as it's embarrassing but here goes hi hoping I can pick your brain... Many issues I'm dealing with have led my house to it's current condition of needing serious cleaning help I know I need to tackle it and get past this mountain to move onto other things and I'm desperately wanting to do so but I need to work smart not hard and that takes the right tools. can you please help me by reccomending some dollar store cleaning supplies (that's my budget) and even that's a stretch. I have Family Dollar, Dollar General, and Dollar Tree store right around me. I also have Target and Walmart and Home Depot and Lowes if there's something at those non dollar stores that you don't have a dupe for, or you think is invaluable. I have two dogs so there's a lot of pet hair everywhere and layers of dust- this old house seems to generate a ton. My biggest issue is the shower it's a shower wrap and the walls in one area have crazy mold. I'd love something to kill and clean that and the tub itself maybe something on a pole so I don't kill my back but if not I'll make it work. I just want it clean. I also have a stove top that needs cleaned it's just a regular porcelain top old type stove not a flat pr glass top and there are spots that I've scrubbed with a scrubby sponge- really scrubbed w bleach and soap and won't budge. maybe a dupe for barkeepers? I tried looking at scrub daddy's but I got overwhelmed there's just so many different types I don't know what I need. I would also like to tackle my linoleum kitchen floor. I truly appreciate any help you can give me and God Bless you and your family.
Vinegar and water with a little dish soap makes a pretty good cleaner. Try to get a grease cutting soap. Also, dollar tree sells a pretty stiff toilet brush. That would work well to scrub the shower with.
I've been doing it for years...LOL. I use all kinds of different things: milk, cream, half & half, almond milk, protein shakes...whatever I have lying around! :)
Pastor’s wife here…thank you for your honesty and transparency through this incredibly challenging time in your life. I can relate in so many ways!!!

I see yogurt cups on the side of the fridge, never tried that! Great tip
I got those yogurt cup holders on amazon. They just stick on anywhere in the fridge (works in some fridges on the bottom of a shelf so they hang down)

I love eating dinner leftovers for breakfast. Many times the leftovers are way healthier than common breakfast items loaded with sugars.
Love the blue glasses
Its so nice to see a Christian family showing the ups and DOWNS of life!! people think just because were Christians that our life is always great and awesome and its not the case but that in the end we know that God will never fail us ♡♡
Joan from Joan’s pointed plate tagged yiu in a video back in 2019, I’m watching all her videos from the beginning so I thought I would check you out too!
Yummy. Can’t wait to try another salty marshmallow recipe. The best instant pot Mac and cheese is from their website.
Great advice!
Ohmigosh!!!
I need some of your fridge organizers❤
The yogurt holders are from Amazon. The bins I put cheese sticks in are just from dollar tree.
Tex Mex leftovers for breakfast pro tip: it goes really well over grits. Boom, it's breakfast!
Great idea!
Thanks so much for your Christian perspective on mothering & lifestyle!!! I appreciate you!
Thank you for watching and for the encouragement! :)
Some good looking meals. And what a great savings!
Thanks!
I've been skipping whole weeks of shopping unless there is a really good item on sale to stock up on. I'll meal plan for what we have in the fridge or freezer. It's nice not spending that extra $80-100 a week. ( 2 adults and a toddler here)
I'm sure it was a difficult decision for your husband. God has other plans for where he said be. God bless
You're reminding me that I have some carrots to use!
Great video. ❤❤❤
Wow I’m impressed at $200 a month for two of you…how?.
Wow! Great job! That's a tight budget, even for just 2 people, I'm impressed! :)
Best trip ever!
It really was. Lol
Great video & tips 🧡🍂❤🍂🧡
Michigander here, too.
We enjoyed our visit, I hope we can go back sometime!
I like leftovers for breakfast.
Good video!
Thanks!
How do you manage the emotional eating with these life changes?
Sometimes I don't. :) Honestly, I just try to keep some perspective, pray, go for walks, and also give myself some grace.
That pepper did not need to be thrown out.
My farmer ❤ cried when you threw out the spoiled produce, compost and garden = 1000s saved every year for us. 😭😱
I forget she doesn't have chickens😂 like heyyy theyll eat it haha
cool
I’ve been doing this for 2 weeks avoiding the store 🤣
heeyyyyyyy Im in michigan!!!!
Really, really wise. Thank you!

Hi Mindy I just wanted to let you know that I’m going to get a abscess tooth taken out soon send your prayers away
Hi Mindy great volg. Fruit and vegetables have not been lasting long
Compost the old veggies! Or toss em in the woods.
@@SeeMindyMom oh my gosh I think I remember seeing that a while back I totally forgot 😂😂♥️💯
Mindy I don't know where to post this question I hope you can help me with I tried on messenger on your fb page but I got a response in an Asian language I feel pretty certain that wasn't you 😂
I didn't want to make this public as it's embarrassing but here goes
hi hoping I can pick your brain...
Many issues I'm dealing with have led my house to it's current condition of needing serious cleaning help
I know I need to tackle it and get past this mountain to move onto other things and I'm desperately wanting to do so but I need to work smart not hard and that takes the right tools.
can you please help me by reccomending some dollar store cleaning supplies (that's my budget) and even that's a stretch.
@mylane8904 Thank you for your suggestions!
Protein shake as coffee creamer!!!!🤯
I've been doing it for years...LOL. I use all kinds of different things: milk, cream, half & half, almond milk, protein shakes...whatever I have lying around! :)
