Those of us who watched him play at Purdue saw the steady improvement of his game over the course of his college career. He is incredibly athletic for a 7'4", 300lbs man. He is a throwback and comparable to the great big men who played in years past. If he stays healthy, he will be an all-star player for his entire career.
You didn't have to go to Purdue to watch him play. I said it two years ago that we will have a role in the NBA. He protects the rim, rebournds, great footwork and scores in the post, can shoot FT's and he's a smart player. To see him shoot the 3, which doesn't surprise me, is cake icing. Good for him.
I was obligated to not like Zack when he was in college because, well, he was the only monster in college who could push around our monster Kofi Cockburn lol! But all kidding aside I'm rooting for him and hope he sees all the success he deserves for his hard work.
Just like he was in college, Zach will continue to get better and better as he understands his role and responsibilities in the NBA. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Edey and as his career progresses he's going to get much better (barring injuries which is the only thing that may limit his play).
Good video man. I'd like to add....Edey broke NBA records December 26th 2024 vs the Raptors! With 21 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, Edey became just the second rookie in NBA history to tally that line in 30 minutes or fewer. He played only 26 minutes! Arvydas Sabonis achieved that stat but took him 30 minutes!
I keep mistaking Edey for Yao Ming. Their movements are so much alike. Edey needs to take care of his feet, those are what befell many giants like Yao.
I saw a vid of him recently and didn't realize that he's Canadian and grew up playing hockey and only very recently started playing basketball. He's much more athletic and coordinated than I realized. He's already a pretty good low post player with really just a jump hook. Imagine how much better he'll be if he develops a couple other moves...
I am an awe of how fundamentally sound Zach stays through out every game. He is wearing people down with it. I wish Wilt Chaiberlain was around to play him. That would be epic.
Knew he would be good. Watched him the past couple years at Purdue. He is motivated to better his game and is continuing to do so. Grizzlies got the best pick of the draft!
Edey's problem in college was that when he was posting up and dribbling backwards to the hoop, the ball has a long way to go down, and a long way to get back to his hand. He was stripped a lot. But this Boilermaker is loving his play this year. Zach is SMART. Zach works HARD. He's going to only get better.
“He didn’t shoot ANY three pointers in college.” False He shot 2 three pointers in college his senior year making one. He was automatic inside. Why would he shoot three pointers?
I think the Clingan pick is a good one still but the Blazers situation is just different than the Grizz. Ayton is playing 30 minutes per night as a true center. Edey isn’t behind a true center as JJJ, Clarke and Huff are all Forward like
You wont see much, they play different positions. Eddie is a traditional center. Even though he is considered a project center his post game fundamentals and foot work are already miles ahead of Wemby. Wemby is a extremely tall shooting guard who cant guard the post, he relies on swatting at shots from behind. Wemby is to light and lacks the strength to guard most centers. He gets rag dolled by anyone who is a serviceable center or PF. Wemby has never developed the foot work to have a elite post game. Eddie would chew Wemby up in the post and Wemby would outplay Eddie on the perimeter.
I think he could be a 7’4 Brook Lopez with better passing in his prime, so a DPOY and ALL STAR level player, he might never win DPOY just because Wemby exist but he can be a Top 5 defender in the league imo, and if he get bigger like Shaq who was 300pounds as a rookie just like him and then reached 340 in his prime, and even more after, it will be almost impossible to stop him from backing you down in the post, so i think he could become dominant
@@M1ghty888 Edey isn't 300 anymore. Griz got him down to 290 during training camp because they wanted him to be mobile enough for their Euro 5-man on ball play style.
He used to play down in the post on 90% of the plays when he was in college, now he’s hanging by the 3 point line like a lanky scarecrow .. exactly why the nba is so whack now
He'd be better if the teams would actually play more for efficiency and he'd be able to get in the paint even though the threes go up end score three-pointer still aren't efficient unless you have people making mid-range shots layups and dunks.
Eh he's just a tall foul merchant that won't get drafted, let alone make in the nba. He'll be good in China/Europe though. *sarcasm off*. Kid has the work ethic and drive it takes to make it in professional sports.
Everything they said he wouldn't be able to do in the NBA, he's doing just fine! The greatest thing about Edey is that he hasn't even reached his peak potential.
He will continue as far as his health will allow him. HIs size and continued improvement will allow him to push as high as an MVP. Please remember this is only his 8th season of playing organized basketball and he is already holding his own in the NBA. By his 4th or 5th season in the pros he could be dominant with the transition to lighter players that shoot the 3.
Fundamentals and basketball IQ almost always beat guys who rely on athleticism in the end. Eddie is smart, coachable, and has great work ethic, that will make him unstoppable in a couple of years.
He's only just begun to develop in the NBA ,2 to 3 years from now he's going to be so dominant that he will be best big in the league,if he stays healthy and takes care of the feet
As a Blazers “fan” ha ha I cringed when they selected Clingon while Edey was available but he’s in a good spot with Memphis. Portland is a dumpster fire.
Ja has never played with a center like this neither has jaren Jackson jr either the entire team has never played with a center like this coach has never coached a big man like Zach edey Memphis grizzlies this town this city has never had a team like this they deserve it these fans deserve it but they need to fail and fail forward i think they will get to the western conference finals they have a chance to still get to the finals and win it all but to be honest I don't think they are constructed to win it all they don't have a champion like a kawhi Leonard on their team or a lebron James
Someone please put together a supercut of all his critics last year, then shove the video down their throats. He got in better shape too. I am a big IU Basketball fan, but enjoyed seeing him play at PU.
I watched his entire career at Purdue. I’m so happy for him having success in the nba def because people were saying he was unplayable lol.

Proving the haters wrong every game
Z Eazy! 🎉🎉🎉 Get busy
Go Grizz 🐻 🐾 🏀 🎉
Edey is underrated.
11 and 8 ain't proving shit.
@ literally the fav to win roty rn🤣🤣
@@JustKerdo last published kia ladder has him 5th.
He took 2 three pointers while at Purdue. He hit one.
Yes against IU 😂
He banked that against my Hoosiers 😢
He had taken one earlier in the year too, but I think his foot was on the line
A big with high IQ. He's helping his team to be top 3 in the west, he should definitely be a candidate for ROY
He's the frontrunner for ROY again according to the betting odds on FanDuel. He had dropped after missing a month
Love that you have the clip of Edey blocking Steph's 3 😁

this is the worst version of Zach Edey we will ever see, league in trouble

Was this during a snowstorm on a Tuesday before 3pm? Ridiculous left field stat line “record”.
This also illuminates Sabonis's greatness because he was a shell of himself when he finally entered the NBA
As an IU fan I’ve always liked this kid. Good for him. 👏
Me too. He played for the wrong team but, he seems to be a humble & hard-working guy. If he keeps working at it, he's gonna be really tough.
@@generalzod7959 Disagree, imagine him being coached by Woody.... There will be zero improvements to his game from year 1 to 4.
@@aaronlow789 i won't argue that. however, i still wish he woulda played for the hoosiers. but now that he's a pro, i wish he were a pacer.

Yao's foot problems are because China never let him rest. He never got a recovery period after the NBA season was over.

The most important thing that edey does... Is that he never puts the ball down. He plays big, uses His height in the right way
“He didn’t shoot ANY three pointers in college.” False
He shot 2 three pointers in college his senior year making one. He was automatic inside. Why would he shoot three pointers?
It's wild that he was drafted 9th...and that the Spurs had two chances to pair him with Wemby to create another Twin Towers era.
He shot 2 and was 50% in college
i remember seeing him play during march madness and thought he would be dangerous
Did we really screw up not drafting him, clingan is not doing this offensively at all.
Anyone that passed on him messed up. He was the obvious first pick to me
Clingan is better defensively. More mobile
@@bobblade2681 Then why were all of Edey's mobility numbers better than Clingan at the NBA combine?

Never forget Yahoo Sports' Krysten Peek: "One of the worst picks I've seen in draft history"
I stand by what I said, and he should have went 1st in the draft. He was by far the best player for a few years in college.
Thought he was going to be stiff at first. But he’s got game!
I haven't seen him go against Victor Wembanyama yet, it would be great!

Aja, and Angel, should learn from this example. Then, they both, can be unstoppable.
He is like a stronger version of Rik Smits. In the era of this small ball he is going to eat.
Gangsta Khan doesn't need a horse, because he is one

Zack took 1 three pointer at Purdue, and made it.
He looks like Yao Ming out there
"Worst draft pick ever!" Is the idiot that made that comment still employed?
A + clip brah . Gonna be a all star ⭐⭐ at some point
Raptors have no Center (Poooodle is out) been waiting for a team to eat in the paint, took long enough.
Being that tall isn't a skill. An athletic 8 footer will come along and for sure turn the game into a freak show.

Anyone else excited for Edey vs Wemby matchup?
I think he was 1 of 2 from 3 as a Boiler (Up)
Ja and Zach vs Shai and Chet. Who you got?
As long as he doesn’t play TJD
The grizzlies are the perfect team for Zach. Most teams would have wasted his talent in their systems.
A BIG playing with his back to the basket? Whaaaat?
Now the league can get rid of the 3 in the key rule to offset "huck & chuck" 3 problem.
