The Song on this video is called "While you can" featuring Julia Holmström.
We also you say that this shopping bill was about $200 more than our normal two week grocery bill.
Thank you for watching and as always have a great day.

Look into indoor gardening with 35 watt cobb DAYLIGHT LED lights. They put out 300 watts of light and work real good for plants in the vegetative state. Start the plants in the Winter and put them outside in the summer to finish up. Works great with weed, tea, and strawberry plants so it should do good on most plants.

Great video! We actually pay more at our local Fred Myer's which I would not have expected. Jealous of the peanut butter cost, the natural peanut butter or almond butter here is so much we do not buy it anymore. As far as Costco we don't shop there for a comparison but it seemed reasonable :)

In Virginia it is easy to grow your own about 8 months out of the year with a simple greenhouse (the same setup in his part of Alaska he would have to wrap and heat the greenhouse a few months to maintain that many months....of course by wrapping and heating (even just with black water barrels), you could raise crops year round.

I knw in Alaska your limited to a couple stores.. but Im always up for the challenge of saving cash.. hunting fishing and local farms and regenerative farming.. $322.00!?? My God, for that small amount of groceries!? WOW! I lived in Juneau for a couple of years back in 83-85, so, I left there about 8 years before this Costco was even built (according to my trusty Google home mini) but I don't remember the prices being that bad! Of course, 1985 "was" 36 years ago! Man... where did all that time go!?
Your Fred Meyer was built in 1983 (the year I arrived in Juneau; I was 27) and your Costco was built ten years later, in 1993. Your Costco is the smallest Costco of the chains 785 stores. It was built as a test to see how they would do in a smaller market.
Some things never change. Alaskans still wear Helly Hansen rain gear. Mine was red. :)

not all socialism is tragic... we must not neglect to recognize the nuances of how abuse of the people vs. the well-being of the people can affect a populace, regardless of the economic model... consider that the nordic model of socialism is a thriving success.
it is the same issue how capitalism thrives here, and is a miserable failure in most third world countries that we have extended our imperialistic attitudes toward.
an economic model does not determine the wealth or poverty of the nation... but how those with power *use* that model to care and provide for those who support them, is what does.
remember: the US's most financially prosperous era was fueled by a republican with such extreme left socialist economic platforms, it makes bernie sanders look like a conservative.

You may have answered this already but can you tell me how far away from Costco etc you are, what you do for income (since let’s be honest $500 for one week is expensive!). We have also just started doing the low carb diet! I’m a type 2 diabetic and my husband was also just diagnosed with it as well. Anyhow, new subscriber here. Can’t wait to see what else you upload. Hi Amy, hope you and your husband are doing well. I’m glad you found our channel, welcome. Turns out that was our first time buying a bunch of new stuff for the diet. It lasted two weeks and our normal bill is about $250-$300 ever two weeks.
I retired a couple years ago. I retired from the Army and then worked in a gold mine for a few years. After we paid everything off and saved up a nest egg I retired and we live off my military money.
On a good day it takes us 35-40 minutes to get to the boat launch and then another 20-30 to get to Costco.
      Hope that answered your question.
Good luck with the low carb diet. We are still on it. I’ve dropped 20 in about 30 months.

There is a Costco about a mile away from Fred Meyers and the prices on things that do not have a lot of water weight are about the same price as the lower 48. Also prices are better than Freddy's at the Safeway a few miles out past the airport. Just avoid the IGA in town or you will have serious sticker shock. Juneau and Anchorage are not much higher than the lower 48, but go to an island community like Petersburg and you get to pay $8/gallon for milk.

Living mostly in the Midwest I find this prices to be high but to other areas it’s not bad. Especially when you add in the cost to put all this on a barge.
Juneau is divided up two sections but really there are four. You have the small cute downtown and the valley. I also like to include Douglas island which is right across the channel from downtown Juneau and then there is what is called “out the road”. Out the road is headed away from downtown and past the valley. It’s very secluded and further you go you lose cell phone reception. We looked at a couple of cabins in that area but are glad we decided to buy our place on the island.

You make me smile, I can sence the love. Your hair is beautiful lady! I tried to start a diet this week but blew it today after loading, hauling , and stacking firewood and cutting another down. Dont know what's going on but when I do firewood I'm SO HUNGRY I feel like if I dont eat quick, the wallpaper might get eaten. You all work so hard too and cold climate.
That was a nice little drive. Yeah that's right!! Bacon! & Beans! Thanks you two. Off grid in Oklahoma Mt Momma

You two are my favorite TH-camrs. I’m sure life isn’t all rosey up there, but it would be a dream of mine. I saw a video of food prices in Burrows AK. Now that was scared. Lol

I am afraid I would just have to remain fat. 500 for a week of groceries is not happening.

I’m by myself and rarely spend more than $100 a month on groceries here in Houston Texas. I eat pretty good also . I used to live in Ketchikan but I couldn’t afford to retire there . I sure miss it though .

I bet, it’s so beautiful here. What is the nit to miss, maybe a little bit of the rain😂
I can totally see why some people leave when they retire not is expensive.

That's not too bad considering I live in San Francisco. Now if one is from Topeka Kansas then yes it could be ''sticker shock.''

Yeah I think NY and CA may have us beat on cost of goods.

Holy cow! My family of 4 goes through a gallon of milk a day (mostly the kids) and we only spend about $300-$350 a month usually. We are in Pennsylvania.

This place looks so lovely! My dream town to move to- I love the rain and cold. I'm from New York, the prices are fairly similar here (Long Island!), but your guy's rent seems way cheaper for an apartment! And much more amazing scenery! Hope to at least visit one day

Well if it make you feel better our prices are about the same with higher taxes 10.50. It always make me laugh. With our weather and left sea border and endless trucking routes and OVER POPULATION , we should have extremely lower prices. Nope. We always get Californicated by our State . " North to Alaska . Go north , the rush is on" ( Lyrics by Johnny Horton. )

I used to live on Prince of Wales Island (Klawock). The prices on the island are much higher than Juneau. I miss southeast AK. There's no other place on earth as beautiful and magical. Love your vids!
