There is a hiking trail from vancouver all the way up to juneau so you can also walk there. I am currently planning to walk across canada from coast to coast to coast, taking 3 years. Your voyages have inspired me to go where cars cannot go, following trails all the way. My early retirement treat for all my hard work.
Sounds great. I’m to busted up to make a walk like that anymore. But I would like to drive the AlCan hiway someday. Hope you have a great hike stay safe and enjoy
The stamped State Capital booklet is a keepsake of cherished memories , so lovely. Congrats! Thank you so much for taking us along. Juneau does look gorgeous. It would be picture-perfect to look out your office windows and see in front of you a huge mountain, with gorgeous evergreen trees, mist in the valleys and an Eagle or two. Beautiful. Bless you Joe and Nicole.
Nicole, congratulations for getting all 50 state capital stamps! You are part of a small elite group now! Not what I was expecting at all, but very appealing. It's always fun to see a house with its yard full of 'stuff'. LOL Even in unlikely places where 'stuff' is hard to come by .That blue house with the pink door is painted like mine! I love bright colors. Thanks for taking us along.
I’m glad you enjoyed Juneau. I’m a Colorado country girl, but I’ve lived in Juneau for 43 years. We’re very happy here. I hope you saw eagles. There weren’t any in your video, but we really do have lots. I’m a state government worker and my office is downtown. It’s a great place to be on sunny days by the water. Thanks for the video.
Worked in Juneau for a year. Alaska Airlines 737’s have special equipment and pilot’s training for instrument approaches in low clouds/visibility because the mountains are so close to the approach from the south. stayed in the Mendenhall Valley (near airport). My favorite restaurant was The Hangar on the Wharf. Too bad you didn’t discover that while you were there-you would have loved it!
Like everything in the world has...it's changed alot in Juneau since I was there in the mid 1970's. Weird to think I was five years old when Alaska became a State. On the south end of town there were old mine buildings up on the side of the mountain. And yeah, I remember the Red Dog. It was popular and famous even when I was there in the 70's, but their wasn't near the amount of cruise ship tourism then as there is now.
Totally different from Anchorage - which looked totally American. Juneau has a very European look and feel to it. Like straight from Norway. I didn't like Anchorage, but Juneau is beautiful and calm.
Such a beautiful state!! My Dad went to Hawaii when he went to Alaska, he told me he loved that state and people so much more than in Hawaii. I am wondering which was your favorite. Congrats on getting ALL 50 states. That is awesome. I really enjoy learning so much from your trips. Thank you.
Great video! Love the Wisconsin connection ! 3 million lakes! Wow! Gorgeous place! Love the mountains. I like the capitol building. Love the 70’s vibe. Pizza looked delicious.
A few years back I look a Norwegian Cruise ship from Seattle up the Pacific to various stops in Alaska. It is one of the few cruise ships I would consider boarding. The trip was awesome. Last cruise for the season and the weather kept us from docking in Juneau. The farthest north we went was Ketchikan and loved it. They also have totem poles there. I got a Ketchikan t-shirt with a huge grizzly bear on the back. Caption above the bear said, "Does not play well with others" 😅
Juneau is lovely. About 10K of the 32K population lives in the "mountainside/Old Town" area; most of the rest live in Mendenhall Valley north towards the airport. It's flatter and more "suburban", where most of the regular/locals retail is located. One of my top favorite towns as well.
Tracys King Crab has a place about a 10 minute walk up the shore from where you are downtown that has no lines and sits right on the water so you watch eagles, etc. Food fantastic!!! Was there about 14 months ago working.
Ketchikan, south of Juneau,is my favorite Alaskan city. Yes,it's cool there but not frightfully cold, not even in the winter( lots of 30s and 40s highs and lows). Kudos to Nic for braving the coolness. I know she's a warm weather person. It is beautiful there, isn't it? Stay safe, you two.
Rent a car and drive out of the city. Visit Douglas Island, visit Mendenhall Glacier. Drive until the road ends north of Juneau to Eagle River. I loved visiting Juneau and look forward to returning there
I teared up a bit seeing Nicole get her final state stamp. I've watched all of your travel videos. What an extraordinary journey! Thank you and Nicole for taking all of us with! God Bless Beautiful America!🇺🇸
...is why I'll never understand why folks go to far away countries....we have every kind of climate n environment that you'd want! ( except if you're visiting far away family)
I know it was cold. Just look at the mountains ⛰️ and those ☁️ 😶🌫️. The 🏘 were lovely 😍 . Wonderful scenery 🏔🏞 Joey . Pizza 🍕 🍕 time food looked marvelously joey & Nicole 😋 .
How fun you guys! I find it interesting that most of the buildings looked kind of plain in design and not historically old compared to the rest of the U.S. probably because it is a newer state. Beautiful town but can you imagine seeing cruise ships coming and going everyday? Lived in a port town growing up and I was very different.I prefer warmer weather now. Thanks for taking us along on your journey! Always a pleasure to see!
What a pleasant journey, so you've reached the full stamps of all US capitols now :) Juneau, AK looks really more of a Canadian city. My compliments to Joe and Nicole from Switzerland :)
Nice place to visit. Never live in a tourist town. Everything is for tourists and locals are viewed as a human resource to be exploited. Low wages, high rent, not much entertainment except high priced alcohol designed to deprive you of your money. They chew you up, spit you out and in come the next group of suckers chasing adventure. Around and around it goes. Fine if you live there and have money or are an employer I suspect.
At 19:19 I spy a woman having hot flashes - I know of a woman who had to take her coat off in freezing wind in the middle of winter like 15F degrees, so I recognize the "signs".
Congratulations Nicole and Joe! You got all the stamps. You are in rare company. Love your videos. I go to MapQuest to see where your at on every one. Hope you keep doing them. I gotta have my Dollar General and stray cat fix.
Enjoyed your Juneau episode, Joe! Wish there was more. But we understand the weather isn't what you are used to. Especially you, Nic, you are not fond of the cold. Take Care.
Hello from Ireland, that Irish bar did not look very Irish lol, but Juneau is such an amazing place, as a few others have said in the comments, congrats Nicole for the last capital stamp, such a lovely thing to have to show your travels. Those steps you went down Joe, I would have had a dizzy spell, you wouldn't want to be afraid of heights there lol. Great video showcasing a wonderful place, thank you for bringing us along, you make us feel like we are there with you.
What a lovely city, lots of beautiful homes and hills. I don't know if I could do the constant tourism but still beautiful. Have a great day and safe travels
Haven't seen the Red Dog Saloon since 1975, twelve years after I first hitched from Berkeley to Fairbanks. Should you ever go up or down the Alcan, stop at Milepost 530 out of Dawson Creek. Down among the trees off a steep bluff and probably now totally hidden will be (unless it has been removed) a rusted out 1953 Ford that I and two companions, with help of a Canadian's pickup, pushed off the bluff. Those were the days.
That was a quick series. I guess I was expecting you guys to be haunting all over Alaska. I'd like to know more about the prices. The per capita income, from what I reckon, is that high because every day needs such as groceries are way higher than they are in the lower 48. I've lived in Texas for the last 11 years now. About 23 in the southwest total, in general. Sometimes the heat is just too much! Juneau looks like the perfect place. Not sure how it would be with 2000 or so cruise ship tourists waking around though. Still I think a cooler climate would suit me better no matter where it is. I liked your Anchorage video, but something about Juneau seems more... affordable, shall we say... But again, Austin TX has it going on! And thats why I choose to stay. Love your channel and always look forward to your uploads. Thanks guys!! May all your travels be safe
Another great video! Montana can get that way in late August. It always pays to pack a hoodie or jacket when you are going anywhere in the Pacific Northwest and especially Alaska :)
I was stationed at the US Coast Guard District Office in Juneau from 1962 to 1965 before downtown was ruined by cruise ships. Loved the town and the town loved the Coasties. But there was nothing for young & single people to do in the evenings (except patronize the 19 downtown bars) so I took a moonlighting job at the "premier" nightclub/restaurant on Douglas Island called "Mike's Place" and came away from Juneau with enough savings to buy a brand new 1965 MGB Roadster for my new duty station USCG Air Station San Diego..
I'm sorry I missed you since I was also in Juneau on Aug 27, boarding my American Cruise Lines ship at the other "miner's" dock west of the airport (small ship - only 163 passengers). That day in Juneau was 1 of only 3 rain-free days in our 16 day land/cruise package. Still, it was all beautiful! Congrats on state capitol #50!
End of August is fall, even though the equinox is 3 weeks away. Fun fact much of current US was founded by Canada when it was British. I plan to use the ferry to get to Alaska, takes awhile but you see more than on a cruise ship. Juneau looks a lot like Alberta mountain towns Banff and Jasper (before it burned).
Been there expensive! But I went fishing there! It was pretty cool! If you like fishing try Docs excursions it’s run by Mormons! About 2-1/2 hours north of Juno! As a British Columbian, Juneau always seems like an area that would feel most familiar to me. The weather seems normal, lol. It's all relative I suppose.
You say "Same as the U . S.", Shame on you, you are in the U . S. !!!!!!! Only been to Juneau on a fly in.Sorry ,dexterity problems ,can't type a lot ,just a phone ,stayed across from where cruise ships dock , did many activities. Glad you are enjoying .
I am glad you liked our town. We tell our friends and family the best time to visit Juneau is in May. May is usually our dry month and can get very warm....for us ;)
The median salary needs to be high to help you buy food because it’s not cheap there. Some of the more remote towns groceries can be outrageously expensive. I haven’t been to Juneau since 2014 but am going back sometime next year. I love visiting Alaska…. Another great video Joe!!! Did you guys only go to Anchorage and Juneau? If so you definitely need to go back and see other cities or take an extended cruise so you can see some of the other great cities…
These seems not a handicapp housing area with all the steps you need to take to get to your house and neighborhood. And the streets need improving for both directions. High priced for me.
My home. Been here almost 30 years, and there's no better place for me. It either clicks for you or it doesn't. The quality of life is really good if you can deal with the climate.
Looks like a beautiful place. I am not a cold weather person either but Juneau looks nice. I never knew it was a veritable island in that you could only reach it by air or sea.
The view of dense forest over the narrow streets of Juneau is spectacular! I think living in such tough and severe state as Alaska is obviously challenge and endurance itself, to say nothing about daily work activities which would demand times more energy and commitment when its freezing cold, windy and humidity puts your body and mood under stress which not many people could withstand!
Had a couple of summers in Alaska and always loved it. Juneau is gorgeous, Ketchikan is gorgeous, Skagway is gorgeous....really, it's all grand. There's a ferry service from Bellingham in Washington State up to Alaska, as an alternative sea voyage choice to the cruise ships - something I've yet to try but I'm sure would make for a great experience. If you get back to Juneau stop in at The Hangar for a meal, definitely a favorite stop during my time there.
The grey weather would get depressing.. Alaska is beautiful none the less..
Alaska has the lowest suicide rates in the republic, oh wait, never mind.
There’s a reason why so many Alaskans move to Phoenix 😂
@@johnlennon2864 I moved the Phoenix from the Northeast for exactly that reason!!
I hate rain and that’s a concern of mine about visiting Alaska

My Saturdays have not officially started until your video drops. 😂
Joe, your voice was enthusiastic about this city and Nicole sure looked cold.
Choose "no tip" and leave cash. I understand that waitstaff like that better. When I have good service, I like leaving a cash tip.
Yes, then you know the waitress/waiter has an actual chance of keeping the tip
I always try to make this move whenever possible.

Great video again. I spotted a wee mistake. The date of the newspaper in the Capitol building was 1958, not 1895.

Where to now? Australia sounds good, polar opposites to the US, won't see dead towns and cities anywhere.

It’s not beautiful it’s grim. Why anyone would live there voluntarily is beyond me.
Stop lying to us Joey!!!
Thank you Nic & Joe. You are awesome for bringing us these treasured videos. And you saved me my retirement account!
Another great video Joe. My wife and I loved Juneau, such a beautiful city. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Looks really interesting. I'd be afraid of power outages and lack of healthcare (especially emergency healthcare).
Great video. 22:18. That pizza looks delicious!! You made me hungry.
My philosophy is go to the restaurant that seems the most crowded, and you probably will get delicious food. Glad you lucked out with the pizza place.
I always like to ask locals where they eat off the tourist beaten path
Something in choices of cloths you resemble the male population world around
It really looks run down. Actually the price of a home is pretty high and a household isn’t even bringing in a 100k.
Congratulations! I better get started on my journey. Loved Alaska so Beautiful!

Juneau looks fantastic! I will have to to visit someday , but I definitely prefer what you did over just taking a day there like the cruise ships
