great video ! one question, You say we need to update retropie with basic install option, I see this in retropie wiki:
Basic Install: This is intended as a first install and is not required if using a pre-built image. eg When installing RetroPie on top of an existing OS.
Update All Installed Packages: This will update the RetroPie-Setup script and all installed packages.
Are your sure that Basic install is the right option? If we use basic install, Do we keep our existent emulator configurations ?

Important: As of at least January 2021, the videos downloaded from arcadeitalia are at YUP244, incompatible with the new video codec implementation in Retropie, so no videos show. While this will likely be addressed, for now you can batch convert all videos to YUP420. I used a windows ffmpeg batch convert app with arguments '-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p' and they converted fine without file bloat. Still, thanks @ETA Prime, very useful videos!

Well not only am I not getting any videos I do not seem to get anything downloaded when I run Steven Selph's Scraper. I have checked and rechecked everything and all I get is error messages for every N64 ROM in the N64 folder. The RetroPie inbuilt one at least worked 😞
Now I do not know if I can still use the inbuilt one or if I I have to re-install everything from scratch. I guess " if it is not broke don't fix it" might have been a better course of action. I just read that this scraper is just so much better than the standard one. Ho Hum.
@@Delboy666 Yes. Me too. I've only tried N64 I only get error messages every time. If u find a solution let me know.

Love the content and appreciate the info man! The scraping for this took about 40 hours for me haha Unfortunately, a problem has surfaced! I've recently gotten hooked Mario Kart 64, which ran beautifully before. But now it's unplayable really. I did watch/follow your n64 enhancements video + now the fps show on the bottom left, which didn't before. If any of that info helps! And to make it all worse, I depart on a family trip tomorrow where I excited to showcase the new pi! So any prompt help will be much welcomed!!

Follow the directions and it work perfect. Using retropie 4.4 on a retroflag GPI case with BMO as the theme and running the Supreme GPI build from Arcade Punks. It still has a few issues (The image) but for a pre-built image it's one of the best. Thanks again for your

Mines going to take so much time to scrape that I could possible work a shift or two at work. But thanks for this ETA! Was the last thing I really desired for my ES setup. Now anything that gets released that I install and like is just a bonus
goodness... I was optimistic when I posted this... its been scraping since I posted and im only up to NDS games. So ETA, its taken more than just going to get a beverage... Ive had two sleep, eaten many meals, watched a couple of movies... Now im bout to get up, and go to work.

but for me as well the scraping as desribed didn't bring me 1 video so I read in the comments that I have to change my scraping source to screenscraper (for arcacde source and console source) and it worked perfectly!

Press and hold ALT key then type 1 2 6. That will get you the ~ character
Even better, if you want to know where the US keys are in retropie, simply go into setting and change the local to US and select a US keyboard layout....
Sorry this a different question but I have a problem, I can't use a controller in the retropie setup anymore it only works with a keyboard it used to let me use my controller, is there a way to fix this? Thank you.
@@frankthetank6621 A specific controller or any controller? I've found mixed results with different controllers (and different emulators). For instance, I can't press the left direction on my built in joystick controller in Daphne emulator (but it works fine in retropie and other emulators), but my SNES USB controller can and does work there. It's hit or miss.

After the first time you run this, for follow-up scraping change gamelist "overwrite" to "append" to avoid overwriting any manual scrapes you did for ones that Selph's Scraper couldn't find. Also change arcade source to ScreenScraper since the hardware accelerator does not work with videos in ArcadeItalia.

ETA, you're the man, love your videos dude. This worked great, and it really adds alot to the game menus, however, the volume is considerably louder on the video previews juxtaposed with the actual games...any tweaking that can be done to adjust the video preview volume? Thanks brother!

First, excuse my poor writing, English is not my first laguage.
Ok so I followed this tutorial, witch is great. ETA PRIME, Retropie video capture, de suite tone of your voice (it's almost like if you say in your attitude: "relax...you can do it"). Everything went just fine.
But, I noticed a huge lag in SSH communication afer Steven Selph's Scraper. That odd but it is true. I format everything several time to really understand when exactly the problem occur, and finally, It really looks like it is right afeter Steven Selph's Scraper installation. I there something to do to improve my SSH connection^
Symptom:
- On a remote console via Putty in LAN----» A huge lag for key input. I time ans it takes like forever to see what I typed. Problem occur as root & pi user.
- Transfering data upload/download from remote client in LAN from/to Raspeberrypi via fillezilla in SSH protocol. Log record dropped connections. I tried to use only one tred, but this was unsucceful.
My config:
- Raspberriepi 3 B+ connect to local wifi
- Linux 4.14.30-v7+ armv7l GNU/Linux
- retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3
- NesPi Plus Case whitout Shutdown safe module
- Fan & heatsink
- iwconfig wlan0 power off (custom.sevice at boot)
- /etc/ssh/sshd_config -----------» UseDNS=no
Wifi:
- IEEE 802.11
- Mode:Managed
- Frequency:2.462 GHz
- Tx-Power=31 dBm
- Link Quality=70/70
- Signal level=-35 dBm
- Bit Rate=26 Mb/s
- Retry short limit:7

- Fragment thr:off
- Power Management:off
- Link Quality=70/70
CPUs:

I realy don't know where those SSH lag beaviors come from. I don't know what to do but to remove Steven Selph's Scraper. That sad since It is the best automated Scraper I have ever seen.

great walkthrough. my only gripe is when you switch to OMX player it brings the video to the front and puts the boxart and marquee BEHIND it. its nicer the other way.

How to ACTUALLY scrape one or multiple systems at a time:
Once you get the "Select ROM Folder" window (lists your ROM folders...) you must press B while the folder is selected.
This adds an "*" between the "[ ]".
Ex. "[*]"
Basically you need to select which folders you want to scrape by checking the "boxes" next to the folders.
If you select no folders, no folders get scraped, which gives you the instant "ROM folders scraped".
I found that by accident... Hope it’s helpful.

Good video. Everything works as advertised... I do think it just really, really needs to be emphasized that if you have already altered metadata before scraping (ie: renamed roms, added a hidden tag, etc). That will ALL Be wiped out when it scrapes everything for the first time. If scraping would not alter the names or hidden flags, I'd be much happier.
FYI, Comic Book theme by TMNTguy supports videos also. ; )
If your videos are not showing up under arcade then uncheck OMX Player and it will work.

Quick question: I recently noticed Sonic Robo Blast 2 (a surprisingly good sonic the hedgehog game made in the doom engine of all things) was added to experimental packages, but it errors out when i try to install it. I'm brand new to raspberry pi and retropie but have learned a lot in a few months, any chance you could have a look and see if you could figure it out? Cheers.

I have some (e.g. Defender) where the scraper has grabbed an mp4 file that plays on my PC OK, but Retropie doesn't play them. Are there other settings to tweak for those?

This scraper changed like 15 of my dream cast games all to daytona usa or d-2,I dont even have d-2. It also changed a bunch of ps1 titles to different languages
Rolling Swishers correct the ROM NAME (Check for inconsistencies) then rescrape.
Thanks a lot for all your videos... I watched most of them and finally I have my retropie as I wanted. The only question that I have is for psx scrapping, none of my games are getting images or videos. Could it be the name of file that I am using? The emulation works perfect, only scrapping...
Thank you for posting this video. I was able to get the videos to play for my Sega master system, but on the mame and final burn Alpha emulators the preview video shows for about three seconds, but then does not run.

Well I don't know why, I followed everything exactly but this broke everything. 😂 Games wouldn't launch, the ones that did had no audio. Glad I backed up my image first! Not doing that again lol
Excellent guide. Question, though. How come it scrapes my PlayStation section twice? It looks weird having 2 Crash Bash's on my screen. Is there a way to fix this?
Very helpful video. The scraper is far from perfect, but I had no issues cleaning up missed images and videos. It doesn't seem to work with Neo Geo, Arcade and PC Engine CD, but now that I know how the files are saved I can add these manually to the information scrapped by the default scrapper in Emulation Station.
How did you clean them up please? AIso, I turned off OCX in the settings and the videos started playing in Arcade. It is in an issue with the video settings/format not working when OCX is on.

BUT, I do have one quick thought. What was the whole deal with the "tilde" comment? Of course it is in the right place. Depending upon where someone lives is how their keyboard is layed out... it is relative to location. How can it be wrong?

I'm getting audio but no video. That is, when scrolling through the games, i hear the sounds and audio effects playing in the background of each different game, but the video itself is not visible.

I'm getting a lot of i/o timeouts from arcadeitalia.net. Things move pretty fast when it's working, but it can take forever when it's waiting for a timeout.
