Wow I just happened to be working on this exact thing RIGHT NOW and did a search on youtube. The videos you JUST posted were up and then I went back to the retropie page and hit refresh. Sure enough it updated to what you have. TH-cam go you right to the top REALLY quick. Their new algorithms must be pushing new content as more relevant.

When I got my raspberry pi/retropie, it was my brother that set everything up, or helped me get things set with it, but he didn't show me how to scrape games for box arts and other info, or how to do the changes in this video! I've been learning all of this myself, and it's all thanks to you :)

you don't have to use winscp to change them.
connect to the PIE on your computer, open CONFIGS - open ALL and place the Platform Config File in the ALL folder and close it. then just update the emulators just like in the video

This worked for me (after a tweak, I'll explain)!
I am using the "Simple" Theme on my Retropie, and it already converted the PC Engine theme to the Turbografx 16 theme. After I did everything in the video, the Megadrive turned into Genesis (w00t!), but the Turbografx turned into "pcengine". No artwork, bad look. It looked like the "Modern" Retropie theme.
I decided to "fix" it by going into the platforms.cfg and delete the Turbografx code line. I went through the steps again (yes, even updating the Turbografx emulators), and it converted it back to the good ol' Turbografx 16 theme in the "Simple" Retropie theme.
I'm sure if I want to switch to another theme, like Carbon or something, I'll have to put back in the code for the Turbografx theme, but for now, it works.

This worked great! And now the scraper is finding way more titles and with the US box art.
ETA PRIME, Thanks for the Retropie Videos! These have been so helpful during my first build. I followed your video and it worked exactly as you described. Anyone having issues just follow every step and it works. Couple things to point out as a new Raspberry user, The user name for the log in is "pi" not "pie". I was listening to the video as I worked through the steps. Also perform a completed system power down or reboot. Just restarting Emulation Station will not work. Thank again!

thanks for all of these great videos, yes they have the wikis but it is nice to see it done. Is there by chance an easy way to have have emulation station always boot showing the RetroPie icon instead of landing on an emulator? if that makes sense lol
an odd thing I've found is it just works on some raspberry pi boards, and just doesn't on others. I've done it lots of times, especially with the pi zero, 1 in 3 times works like a charm. the other times it just won't. I have even had it decide to work done time later.

If you are using a premade image, you need to find all of the .cfg files that contain megadrive_theme, megadrive_platform, pcengine_theme, and pcengine_platform. I found a file in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
I edited this as well and now it works just fine.
I am also making my own image at the moment and the above video worked great. But with a premade you might need to do some searching.

ETA PRIME: I noticed in your configuration file you only changed one platform "Genesis." Is there a reason that the file doesn't contain the PC Engine Theme change listed in Wiki? Notice again that Genesis has two designated changes, whereas in your .cfg file, you have only changed one thing for PC Engine.
I know I am really new to this, but I think you should have added that users might want to start their SSH on the Pi before trying Winscp and not able to log in.
+John Anderson this video was actually made before ssh was disabled by default. When this video was made ash was enabled by default.
Sorry didn't know like I said I am really new at this. I watched all your videos and I use them as tutorials. I did run into a lot of problems though and I had to figure out most of them. The only thing that I need help with is how to use a wired xbox 360 controller on the pie because once I plug it in. There is no response when emulation station boots up I did look over everything. Apparently a lot of people are having problems with this. could you do tutorial of this please

cant connect using WinSCP or Cyberduck, I can connect fine just using explorer but of course that doesn't give access to all the folders
also is this just for changing the names or will changing from Mega Drive to Genesis also change how MD roms are scraped?
Is there a way to change the retropie logo inside emulation station? The one that appears next to all of your consoles and grants you access to all of your retropie options. If you’ve already made a video for that I’d love a link to it. Thanks in advance
When I added the config for my Genesis, I used wifi to copy the .cfg file to the pie, and then used the pie file manager to move it to the proper folder.
I do not have the option to update from binary, but I updated from source and it works.
What if I want to do the reverse of this? I have Virtualman's XIII image and as i'm a UK man I want to change Genesis to megadrive.
"Why not both?" Is it possible to have both appear in the menu? This would make it theoretically possible to manage/display exclusive ROMs for the US and JP/EU, or just load the regional variants where they exist.

After I made these changes I then added some Turbografx games. I then Scrapped all the games and now nothing works. Have any idea why this is happening?
It has to be pasted EXACTLY - space above and space below the script...

this work fine for me but I updated my theme to TRONKYFRAN and now it's gone back to pcengine; Genesis held though. I tried going through the steps again but it still stays at pcengine. Help?
jumped the gun and edited file before update "assuming i was up to date" and it did not work, then i went to update and it failed the update due to changed file. even after i changed it back update refused. then i said screw it and deleted file and it updated and self generated a new file. after i did edit again everything worked. thanks ETA prime!

Every time i try to update it keeps saying certain things can't connect to the internet....but i can scrape and the turbo grafix logo updated.

I'm on a fresh install of 4.3 and I do not have the option to update the emulators from binary only source... so slow
SSH has been disabled as of Retropie 4.2. Watch ETA's video on how to enable SSH to get this to work.

Request. if using 2 or more of the same controllers the snes game Super Mario All Stars, controller 1 will not move the characters. Only in this game, Just wondering if you know the fix for this?

"update from binary" no longer available, just "update from source", update there and it returns an error! so I cannot do this
Can "Sega32X" be changed to "Genesis 32X"?

Is it normal for other themes, like Eudora to not have a logo for megadrive or pc engine after doing this change? Some themes are hit or miss, other themes don't have logos for fds or arcade etc. It's bugging me.
This is what I ran into with it. I did the change and have found that some themes just don't seem to display the change.

I appreciate the tutorial! Most of it still works in mid 2018. You just have to enable SSH with RetroPie 4.2 by going into raspi-config.
However, and I don't mean to complain, is it possible to do these tutorials in a more mobile-friendly way? I know it's more editing, but if you could frame the screen capture so that the text is a lot bigger, like so it's visible on a phone or in a smaller windowed screen on desktop. Trying to follow these instructions while watching the video at the same time is proving kind of difficult without using multiple large screens at full 1080 resolution.
Banryu95 I agree. Sometimes it's really hard to see the text on my screen unless I put the video in full screen which is inconvenient for me as I'm often multitasking with multiple windows open

Eh...i always found them foreign. Much prefer the more familiar TG16 and Genesis.
Mackadotious51 they sound foreign because...well, to us Americans, they are foreign. Still, I'm with the other guys on this. I think PC engine and mega drive sound much kooler.
when I try to login on winscp it just keeps saying network error: connection refused. the server rejected SFTP connection, but it listens for FTP connections. what am I doing wrong?
you need to enable SSH on you pi. If you don't know how I can explain how to do it to you.

SO i did this as instructed and when i rebooted my retropie PCengine and megadrive have disappeared
I had the same issue and resolved it by choosing the "Update all Installed Packages" option.
No matter what I try for username and password my connection through WINSCP gets denied. I tried the exact IP address. Any advice? I am on 4.3.3
NM, you have to enable SSH in the Raspi-Config --->Interface Options
Yah i added this line, The genesis worked. The TG16 did not work. Its just a plain font now.

Did you enabled SSH on your Retropie look for the other video of ETA Prime for enabling SSH it I did work for me.
Can't you just do this through samba shares without downloading this extra stuff?
