@@manueltapia1859 No sequel doesn't have anything to do with how liked/hated a film is. If you did a little research you would have known what of a mess the Friday the 13th license is. Am I the only one who actually enjoyed the 2007 Halloween?💀i really just enjoy how much scarier Michael is not as much the dialogue. But I also enjoy the backstory
I have 3 things to say about this. 1. The Friday the 13th reboot wasn't as bad as you say it was. Jason just kills people. Sorry if you think certain kills get stale. 2. Nightmare on Elm Street was good. It went more into the Horror of Freddy instead of Horror/Comedy. I love Freddy but making a slasher pure Horror can be good. And lastly 3. Yes Leatherface was the first Slaher movie killer to happen, but it was Michael Myers in John Carpenter's Halloween that made Slasher movies. If John didn't get involved, then we don't know how well Slasher movies would have ended up.
I agree with you 100%!!! Nightmare, Halloween, Friday 13, Chainsaw remakes were pretty good, like all a lot. The originals are a classics, yes, but these remakes are really done well, and scary.
THANK YOU! The in camera, practical effects & ingenuity of the original make the abominable remake look like the quick, cheap, & uninspired cash grab it was.
@TVA Loki Batman Really? Just compare the practical effect of Freddy slowly emerging from the wall over Nancy's bed in 1984, to the remade AWFUL CGI version, 26 yrs later. After ALL the advances in film, the remake can't begin to come close to the originally visually. That's a testament to inspire filmmaking.
I find it funny that people complain about the, when a stranger calls remake, taking the opening scene of the original, and making it the whole movie. Since when the original came out, people loved the opening scene, and complained that it turned into an investigative drama. People wanted the opening scene to be turned into a longer movie. The remake took those critiques, and did exactly what people asked for, only for people to complain about it. So to me putting the, when a stranger calls remake on here, for doing exactly what people asked for, is unfair, and very contradictory. Since I've seen the og on top 10 lists about horror movies where only the opening scene was good, and its always people saying the rest of the movie should have kept that going. Really shows how you truly can't win with horror fans, people will always find a reason to hate on remakes
I agree. The original was only scary for the first 20 minutes. The remake takes that 20 minutes and creates a night of terror. When a Stranger Calls Back was better than the first too.
00:42, Roger Ebert loved the remake, but hated the Original. WTF!? 1:40, the film almost cost Jessica Alba's career. 2:47* Jared Padelecki's second and final horror film. 3:45, reshoots and cut scenes made this movie bomb at the box office. 4:51, should have been titled "Ryan Reynolds Buys A Haunted House." 5:49, the original will ALWAYS BE BETTER, ALWAYS! 6:47, more of a parody than the original. 7:40, George Romero must be rolling in his grave. 8:56, another failed Stephen King adaptation. 9:53, there are lost cuts to this movie that could have been better 11:00, an MTV horror film no one saw. 12:09, annoying teens getting ripped apart by a lunatic. Yawn. 13:02, more like "When A Remake Is Unnecessary." 14:09, Rob Zombie's last Halloween, for good this time. 15:16, they should brought back Robert England. 16:15, This received 4% on RT. OOF! 17:25, more like, "Sorry Wrong Number." 18:24, Speilberg should have directed this version. 19:34, "NOT THE BEES, NOT THE BEES!" Lol!! 20:57, Daniel Day Lewis would have been better ad Norman Bates.
I agree with you about Robert Englund but, he said that he felt to old to play the part and he wanted to hand the reigns to someone else. Unfortunately for us they f*cked up the whole movie!
The whole point of remakes is to be different from the original, remakes aren't meant to be an exact copy of the original, it adds things the original didn't.
Did WatchMojo break one of the unwritten laws of TH-cam? I thought everytime Nick Cage's Wicker Man is talked about you have to include the bees scene?
I really liked the the Friday the 13th remake , it was a good solid remake . It was brutal , they made Jason scary by making him be able to sprint and it explained how he’s able to get to point A to point B in a more modern way
I don't agree with Ryan Reynolds being a bad choice in casting. I enjoyed that movie and Reynolds did a phenomenal job with the role. Most of his roles are comedic so seeing him in a much darker role showed range that most didn't expect.
I don't think Reynolds was the wrong casting choice in Amityville. He comes across as a great guy and seeing him become dark is, to me at least, genuinely effective. It's not like The Shining where he's already acting kind of nutty before they even get to the hotel.
I actually didn’t know who Ryan Reynolds was before watching the Amityville Horror so I think that helped me see him as an actor rather than the characters he’s known for playing. Now that I know who he is I think he nailed the role and I have an newfound respect for his acting skills
Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 wasn't that bad, it actually managed to really emphasize the horror aspects in a way that Craven didn't/couldn't. The actor who played Freddie was amazing in his role.
I think the remake "when a Stranger Calls" is better than the original. It might not be an award worthy, quality piece of "cinema," but it was a good time and had some great sequences throughout. The original turns into a dry detective drama after that first 20 minutes.
That 2010 reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street. That was UNFORGIVABLE. The director of this reboot didn't know what he was doing. An insult to the 1984 original.
I was super disappointed to see When a Stranger Calls on this list, I grew up watching that movie with one of my best friends every Halloween which turned into every time we had sleepovers. I’ll never forget how it made all my hair stand up on my body and pure chills when they said the call came from inside the house… it made me almost feel like we should search out actual house irl 😂
EXACTLY. I SAW IT FOR THE FIRST GIME ABOUT A YEAR N HALF AGO. IT BECAME ONE OF MY TOP 5 HORROR MOVIES. maybe it’s bc I’m a teen and I babysit occasionally. but it gives me a nice thrill
The Friday The 13TH remake was awesome. I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with that movie. It delivers exactly what one would expect from a F13 movie, so what's the problem? I love the Halloween remake also. It's unfair to compare it to the original because it's a completely different story with different characters. Amityville was awesome. We actually see some creepy ghosts instead of weird look pig face in a window. As far as movie goes, A Nightmare On Elm Street wasn't very good, but Jackie Earl Haley was brilliant as Freddy. It was nice seeing a menacing Freddy for a change instead of a wise crack comedian. I also loved the look. He looked like a real burn victim rather than a guy with pizza toppings on his face.
I didn’t think the 2009 Friday the 13th was a remake. I thought it was just another movie in the franchise. If it had been a remake, Jason’s mother would have been the killer not him.
Out of this list, I actually enjoyed Friday The 13th, Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Rob Zombie's Halloween. I even own each of them. I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is WAY better than the original. Now the Nightmare On Elm St remake was horrible.. The villain went from Freddy Krueger to Freddy Croaker... You know... Cause he looks like a burnt frog.. 👀
Oh come the fuck on… - Friday the 13th remake is different and arguably better than the rest of that monotonous franchise (it trades out large set pieces for action packed chases and brutal kills) - The TCM remake is one of the best remakes of all time, even if it doesn’t come close to the masterpiece og, it doesn’t have the gritty low budget realism of the og but still manages to be an effective and gory slasher - Black Xmas takes the basic premise of the og masterpiece and creates an over the top fun holiday gorefest, they are both great for different reasons - House of Wax is utter trash, but still fun - RZ’s Halloween II is awful, but “his first was bad enough”?? Seriously, his first Halloween was amazing and imo better than the og, his approach to gritty realism really fit the premise
House On Haunted Hill remake , The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 03' remake , Friday The 13th remake , Rob Zombie's, Halloween remake, Evil Dead remake ,The Wolfman remake, & the Omen remake were all good remakes to me💯
I actually loved the Friday the 13th remake I actually preferred it better then the original The first movie doesn’t even have Jason it has his mom who we never even meet until the end But in the remake we immediately get Jason we see his mom get killed and then him see her body Also I liked how we don’t see his face I hated how much we saw his face in the movies Also it mixes all of the first 4 movies together Jason mom death (1st) Jason with a shack on his head (2nd) Jason getting the mask (3rd) And his ultimate death (4th) I liked that Also he’s more threatening he knows what he’s doing in the wild He actually RUNS! He try’s tricking the teenagers he generally just wanted to be left alone And I also likes that he lives on/in Crystal lake It’s not a working camp it’s a run down abandoned camp like it should have been after the first movie Yes it might have some things related to the original it still is generally a new movie Also Jason Doesn’t Teleport Which really pissed me off People can have their own opinion but maybe don’t put it as the worst remake
Friday the 13th 2009 is one of the best in the whole Franchise, The original Friday the 13th is boring😂. I can name like 2 or 3 Friday films better then the original
The Friday the 13th reboot is one of the better horror reboots I had ever seen. The 1998 remake of Psycho, on the other hand, is dumpster fire 🤬🔪🛢🔥🛀🚿. If there is one good thing about that remake that Gus Van Sant got right, it was the casting of William H. Macy as Detective Arbogast.
The 2006 version of Black Christmas had no purpose of being made, but it's not that bad compared to the 2019 version. Also the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and House of Wax I thought were not as bad as everyone said. Plus with Halloween 2, I heard that Rob Zombie made it bad on purpose because he just wanted to make one movie, so he made the sequel bad so that there wouldn't be a chance of a part 3.
Ok if they included the 2019 black Christmas remake instead of the 2006 it would’ve been MUCH higher on the list. Cause while the first remake is awful it still gave us insane Gore and kills so there’s something. In 2019 black Christmas we had these insanely obnoxious characters who go up against a sexist and racist ghost that has a frat cult under his control thanks to magic black goo no slashing whatsoever. Also If the writer/director wanted to make a horror movie that centers around sexism and rape culture they have to treat it with respect and be very adult about it. Doing this set up and execution makes the message sloppy and negative which is a big problem if you’re trying to shine a light on said issue.
just a question. who decides what makes the list cause a lot of these were really good. friday the 13th. texas chainsaw massacre. the stepfather. when a stranger calls. black christmas. prom night. when a stranger calls. halloween. all of those were really good. and all are literally my favorite movies.
You could tell the director did not care in the slightest about the franchise he clearly took it to forward his career that it did not do. It had potential if only someone who cared made it.
True. Also the last minute decision of not making Freddy innocent in the end is, what took from Freddy's motive. If they had gone through with the "he was innocent and wrongfully pushied for something he didn't do", would have given him a real motive and cause for seeking revenge on the kids, who got him killed. Also they should have recasted Nancy. Everyone else was good. No one would have done a better job than Katie Cassidy, Kyle Gallner and JEH.
The Fact that good remakes like Friday the 13th and when a stranger calls are in this list over Village of the Damn and Poltergeist horrible Remakes is astoundingly wild
the remake of Friday the 13th was pretty much the only Friday the 13th I liked. The kill scene on the dock still sticks with me and is one of my favorite kill scenes ever. I liked a lot of these remakes and disagree with a lot of the remarks in the video tbh. The Amityville Horror remake in particular I severely disagree with. Ryan Reynolds is a great actor, especially in comedies. But he genuinely terrified me in Amityville. It's one of my favorite performances from him.
Jason was badass in the newest one, he set up traps and actually intimidating because he ran to his victims. The only thing for me were the victims, they were dumbasses, they could have made them put up a better fight.

I didn't find the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th completely bad all around. Just barely, if any, originality was thrown into the mix. If anything, it's more suitable as, what I would call it, "a popcorn flick."
And still 13 years later nobody wants to make a secuel hehe thats shows how "not bad was"
@@manueltapia1859 No sequel doesn't have anything to do with how liked/hated a film is.
If you did a little research you would have known what of a mess the Friday the 13th license is. The name of the franchise belongs to New Line Cinema. The first movie and it's characters belong to another license holder and the third license holder owns the characters of the other movies.
That's why Jason hasn't been seen anywhere new since 2009.
Now it can change with the end of the law suit and the rise of the Jason Universe. Now he comes to tons of games and it won't take much longer, til we see him again in other media.
Friday the 13th 2009
And house of wax 2005
Absolutely loved it
Ok wait. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 was actually amazing idk what she's talking about. Also Amityville with Ryan really wasn't as bad as people remember.
Pet Sematary and Childs Play should have been on this list!
Both of those of movies aren’t the worst horror movie remakes
@@calebsedillo2650 In terms of Child's Play that's debatable. It's one of the worst I've seen simply for what it represents
Child’s Play (2019) was a fun reboot. I enjoyed it. Not the best by all means but it was decent.
@@chrischaboyer611 not to mention Brad Dourif gives the personality to the character and is fun too like the phrase "You been very naughty Mrs Kretwell".
Pet Cemetary 1989 with Miko Hughes was better and charming child
I actually like The Wolfman 2010, that was a cinema movie and they tried to stay away from as much CGI as they could and if they took some of the reviews and did a sequel i think it could have been even better.
Definitely, I saw it in a packed theater and the crowd was entertained
Me too, but am i the only one who thinks the verry old Wolfman feel like a ABSURD comedy horror unwell done movie?
the CGI isn't as atrocious as the video claims it was. for a 2010's movie. it was solid.
I liked it too
Carrie didn't need a remake or sequel!
Personally I'm shocked the 2002 remake of Carrie wasn't on there
Top 10 Horror Movies That Deserve More Attention.
Which movie would be #1 ;-;?
Friday The 13th and The Wolfman were good.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Jessica Biel was the best one
2019 Black Christmas should be on this list
Am I the only one who actually enjoyed the 2007 Halloween?💀i really just enjoy how much scarier Michael is not as much the dialogue. But I also enjoy the backstory
House of Wax, Texas Chainsaw massacre, and Friday the 13th were all great movies honestly
Child’s play 2019 should’ve been on this list
It was actually good
It was good. It doesn’t need to be on the list.
Álex Vincent was more reliable in the original as well Brad Dourif
1. It’s not a remake.
2. It’s amazing
Agreed it was so bad
Texas chainsaw Friday the 13th and Amityville horror are great yall are tripping
I'm Sorry but Texas chainsaw?😂
@IsabEla-tf5lt yes the 2003 movie is debatedly better or as good as the 74 original
Top Ten Amazing Horror Movies That Sold Poorly
I have 3 things to say about this.
1. The Friday the 13th reboot wasn't as bad as you say it was. Jason just kills people. Sorry if you think certain kills get stale.
2. Nightmare on Elm Street was good. It went more into the Horror of Freddy instead of Horror/Comedy. I love Freddy but making a slasher pure Horror can be good.
And lastly 3. Yes Leatherface was the first Slaher movie killer to happen, but it was Michael Myers in John Carpenter's Halloween that made Slasher movies. If John didn't get involved, then we don't know how well Slasher movies would have ended up.
ya the remake of Nightmare was just like the original first one it didn't really go into comedy until the third flick
nightmare on elm streer remake was dumbster fire lol
@@JohnnyMnemonic. wow you was so hellbent on trolling that you couldn't even bother to spell a simple word like street correctly
I agree with you 100%!!! Nightmare, Halloween, Friday 13, Chainsaw remakes were pretty good, like all a lot. The originals are a classics, yes, but these remakes are really done well, and scary.
👎
In my opinion the friday the 13th remake was pretty good for a horror movie remake.
Same for the wolfman remake, it was good.
I like the Texas Chainsaw remake
OMG the remake of Nightmare on Elm St made me swear to NEVER, EVER watch another remake again
Same 😂 but I would be curious to see a remade Freddy vs Jason *>~
I don’t think that remake is bad
Pardon me, inspireD
I love when a stranger calls
I absolutely love the Friday the 13th remake!
That Texas remake was very good
Having seen the original and the remake, I find the Stranger Calls remake much tighter and much more suspenseful.
4:51, should have been titled "Ryan Reynolds Buys A Haunted House."
5:49, the original will ALWAYS BE BETTER, ALWAYS!
6:47, more of a parody than the original.
7:40, George Romero must be rolling in his grave.
8:56, another failed Stephen King adaptation.
9:53, there are lost cuts to this movie that could have been better
11:00, an MTV horror film no one saw.
12:09, annoying teens getting ripped apart by a lunatic. Yawn.
13:02, more like "When A Remake Is Unnecessary."
14:09, Rob Zombie's last Halloween, for good this time.
15:16, they should brought back Robert England.
16:15, This received 4% on RT. OOF!
17:25, more like, "Sorry Wrong Number."
18:24, Speilberg should have directed this version.
Excuse you Friday the 13th 2009 is one of the best films in the entire franchise. By quite a significant margin. It’s better than the original film…
When a stranger calls is my guilty pleasure
Love that film though it had its faults
The Wolfman and The Amityville Horror are my underrated remakes.
Agreed!
House of wax 2005 was great
The whole point of remakes is to be different from the original, remakes aren't meant to be an exact copy of the original, it adds things the original didn't.
Did WatchMojo break one of the unwritten laws of TH-cam? I thought everytime Nick Cage's Wicker Man is talked about you have to include the bees scene?
Not the bee's !!!! 🤣
If you think that these movies are bad remakes...what until you see Jeepers Creepers Reborn. It truly does sucks.
I don't think Reynolds was the wrong casting choice in Amityville. He comes across as a great guy and seeing him become dark is, to me at least, genuinely effective. It's not like The Shining where he's already acting kind of nutty before they even get to the hotel.
That dude from Psycho remake is the wrong casting, he's too comical , I only agreed to Psycho, the other movies was fine, I love them
I actually didn’t know who Ryan Reynolds was before watching the Amityville Horror so I think that helped me see him as an actor rather than the characters he’s known for playing. Now that I know who he is I think he nailed the role and I have an newfound respect for his acting skills
I think Ryan Reynolds is really miscast in Amityville
halloween 2007 is actually one of the few horror films i remember liking along with saw 1 and 3 from that decade.
The Haunting Remake wasn't that bad , come on now .
I would have to disagree, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror, House of Wax, Friday the 13th and Black Christmas were actually pretty good.
1:23 say that louder for the Disney in the back
Gotta disagree on both the Friday The 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes. Both of those, in my opinion, are very solid.
I disagree, “When A Stranger Call’s” was perfectly suspenseful, and delivered perfect execution in the end.
I agree 💯
I agree 100%. The remake is scary for the entire movie but the original is horrible after the first 20 minutes.
The original one was horrifying
@@paulcarpenter7844 The original was scary - but only the first 20 minutes. The rest of the original was a snooze-fest. The new one is a lot better.
It was a remake but instead of only being a remake of the first film it was a remake of the first four films
And why nobody wants to make a secuel??? Since 13 years!!!
It shows his mom at the beginning
Out of this list, I actually enjoyed Friday The 13th, Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Rob Zombie's Halloween. I even own each of them. I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is WAY better than the original.
Now the Nightmare On Elm St remake was horrible.. The villain went from Freddy Krueger to Freddy Croaker... You know... Cause he looks like a burnt frog.. 👀
Friday The 13th 2009 was my childhood and my introduction to the franchise even if it’s a remake or reboot
Oh come the fuck on…
- Friday the 13th remake is different and arguably better than the rest of that monotonous franchise (it trades out large set pieces for action packed chases and brutal kills)
- The TCM remake is one of the best remakes of all time, even if it doesn’t come close to the masterpiece og, it doesn’t have the gritty low budget realism of the og but still manages to be an effective and gory slasher
- Black Xmas takes the basic premise of the og masterpiece and creates an over the top fun holiday gorefest, they are both great for different reasons
- House of Wax is utter trash, but still fun
- RZ’s Halloween II is awful, but “his first was bad enough”?? Seriously, his first Halloween was amazing and imo better than the og, his approach to gritty realism really fit the premise
No Carrie remake? That was the first movie I thought of when I saw this list
I actually liked that movie.
Me too
Friday the 13th is actually better than the original. It's more brutal, it's scarier, has better acting (still not good) and there's actual tension.
I loved the texas chainsaw massacre remake its one of my favs!!
House On Haunted Hill remake , The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 03' remake , Friday The 13th remake , Rob Zombie's, Halloween remake, Evil Dead remake ,The Wolfman remake, & the Omen remake were all good remakes to me💯
Remember this....
They only remake the movies for a generation that started to like horror movie not to those who was born with the original movie
I actually loved the Friday the 13th remake
I actually preferred it better then the original
The first movie doesn’t even have Jason it has his mom who we never even meet until the end
But in the remake we immediately get Jason we see his mom get killed and then him see her body
Also
I liked how we don’t see his face
I hated how much we saw his face in the movies
Also it mixes all of the first 4 movies together
Jason mom death (1st)
Jason with a shack on his head (2nd)
Jason getting the mask (3rd)
And his ultimate death (4th)
I liked that
Also he’s more threatening he knows what he’s doing in the wild
He actually RUNS!
He try’s tricking the teenagers
he generally just wanted to be left alone
And I also likes that he lives on/in Crystal lake
It’s not a working camp it’s a run down abandoned camp like it should have been after the first movie
Yes it might have some things related to the original it still is generally a new movie
Also
Jason
Doesn’t
Teleport
Which really pissed me off
People can have their own opinion but maybe don’t put it as the worst remake
Friday the 13th 2009 is one of the best in the whole Franchise, The original Friday the 13th is boring😂. I can name like 2 or 3 Friday films better then the original
The Friday the 13th reboot is one of the better horror reboots I had ever seen.
The 1998 remake of Psycho, on the other hand, is dumpster fire 🤬🔪🛢🔥🛀🚿. If there is one good thing about that remake that Gus Van Sant got right, it was the casting of William H. Macy as Detective Arbogast.
You know Jason Voorhees is Iconic when you search up "Jason" He's one of the first things that comes up.
I’ve never understood the hate for the Friday the 13th Remake, I thought it was good and took a new perspective of a more survivalist scary Jason!
The 2006 version of Black Christmas had no purpose of being made, but it's not that bad compared to the 2019 version.
Also the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and House of Wax I thought were not as bad as everyone said.
Plus with Halloween 2, I heard that Rob Zombie made it bad on purpose because he just wanted to make one movie, so he made the sequel bad so that there wouldn't be a chance of a part 3.
if I may, I would like to add three [dis]honorable mentions: My Bloody Valentine (2009), Fright Night (2011), and Poltergeist (2015).
Friday the 13th 2009 is the best entry in the franchise.
Again if was good why nobody wants to make a secuel of Friday 13 2009 almost 13 years later???
@@rocklobster3414 FVJ was NOT Even close to being good haha

just a question. who decides what makes the list cause a lot of these were really good. friday the 13th. texas chainsaw massacre. the stepfather. when a stranger calls. black christmas. prom night. when a stranger calls. halloween. all of those were really good. and all are literally my favorite movies.
I think the 2010 Nightmare on elm street was well produced and acted but poorly directed
You could tell the director did not care in the slightest about the franchise he clearly took it to forward his career that it did not do. It had potential if only someone who cared made it.
That’s for damn sure. Jackie Earl Haley did an excellent work as Freddy. But with how things went with the movie, it was a mess.
Lets be honest nobody can beat Robert Englund!!! The other one lacks personality and looks like a Kevin Bacon but an ugly one
Anyone who thinks the original F13 is a classic and the Remake is terrible, probably hasn't watched either of them since they were released...
The Fact that good remakes like Friday the 13th and when a stranger calls are in this list over Village of the Damn and Poltergeist horrible Remakes is astoundingly wild
Yes I agree poltergeist remake awful , shouldn’t have been made . Only saw a bit of it then turned it off, disliked it
Poltergeist should have been #1 easily!
If you’re going to add 2013’s Carrie to the list, I don’t care. I love the remake. Being October, I saw the movie in theaters at San Francisco
The Amityville Horror remake still gets me with the babysitter scene
I actually enjoyed Friday the 13th (2009). It shown a new side of Jason (traps, running, keeping a girl prisoner)
The rob zombie Halloween remake was actually pretty dope.. and I actually liked the wolfman as well
the remake of Friday the 13th was pretty much the only Friday the 13th I liked.
You can pick on the Friday the 13th remake but you can't deny the fact that movie has an awesome Jason
And he wasn't mindless
Facts. He was terrifying. When he was running towards one of the guys in the beginning, it blew my mind because Jason NEVER runs. Lol
Jason was badass in the newest one, he set up traps and actually intimidating because he ran to his victims. The only thing for me were the victims, they were dumbasses, they could have made them put up a better fight.
