This is very impressive; this is the best review I have seen on this vehicle. Accurate, complete and no anti GM bias that so many reviewers struggle with. Sure we all love to hate GM but they need to be judged on a car-by-car basis. Credit where its due and criticism only where it is due.
look up how much this chevy ev is in real life it starts at 42,000 in Pa and is not even all wheel drive plus they have issue after issue do some research
One of the things my kids love about the back seat of our Y is the open space under the front seats. You can stretch out and put your feet under them. No obstructions.
Plus for Tesla, faster charging infrastructure, a little more range. Plus for Equinox, much better looking, more convenient controls, better ride, much better color choices outside and inside. If you don’t do a lot of long distance driving, Chevrolet and Cadillac EV’s win hands down.
nowadays, a car isn't just a car anymore, and if you are like me that drives everyday and really gets tiring, u should look at tesla, their software is just on another level...
How many other modem cars have you driven or owned recently? Do you understand the software in the Chevy comes from Google. Not sure if you heard of them but they're pretty well known
If you’re talking about fsd sure. But android automotive arguably has more options than teslas software with the Google App Store built in…. The software experience on some of these non Tesla cars has gotten way better.
Great review on this comparison. Extremely happy with my Blazer EV! The suspension was a bit too stiff in my opinion, but got more comfortable after 2500 miles.
You missed the #1 feature point that should be in the comparison, Tesla supervised (currently) autonomous full self driving. After driving a Tesla with their current version of FSD, I would never drive (or should I say ride) in another vehicle. Tesla autonomy is already fantastic and it’s only going to get better, with online updates added periodically. Don’t make the mistake of buying anything but a Tesla EV!
Biggest difference I’ve noted being a 3X Tesla owner and 3X GM EV owner…I’ve easily met or exceeded my EPA range in GM EVs, never once came close in my teslas. With supercharger access, GM makes some great EV options right now.
Also appears your Equinox doesn’t have the newest update which integrates superchargers better into route planning and no longer shows the “plugs not compatible” message.
Watch out.. the Tesla stans will come for you! 😂 Realistically, I think you should rent a Model Y for a week and see if it fits your wants and needs. I did, and I ended up buying an Ioniq 5. The fast charging is what sold me the most, I like being in and out in under 20 minutes. But I also didn’t care for the minimalist design of the Tesla. Just not my preference. 🤷♂️ To me, the biggest perk that Tesla has is the Supercharger network, and that is being slowly whittled away as more companies gain access to Superchargers and also as more companies build out CCS stations.
Last week, I wanted to lease an Equinox for business travel. But the local Florida dealer claimed Chevy wasn’t shipping any with light interiors. I didn’t want black and his mandatory dealer extras so leased a Kia EV6-GT. EV6 had $17.1K in incentives.
Check out your depreciation and you’ll quickly find out why your Tesla is going to be disappointing you. They are deprecated more than any vehicle in the history of the auto industry
Tesla charging performance , fantastic app, sentry mode and FSD are worth the extra money in my opinion, but for the price it is hard to beat what you’re getting here.
I was staring at an Equinox while charging tonight so your timing was perfect. I can't consider this until they move the charge port to front right or rear left. Also the single zone climate control is a non starter for me. I know some people rage at the Google Automotive interface but I don't mind it. GM needs to introduce a lifetime payment option for Super Cruise as does Ford for Blue Cruise.
One question on my Model Y I recently did a 42% charge from 7% to 49% for final trip home. That took 11 minutes, total cost was $11.42. What was cost of that charging session of the Equinox?
That car needs to come with an extension cable, for Tesla Chargers. Many cars that are supported with Tesla charging could use an extension cable. I’m surprised they are not offered.
10 to 80% on my 2023 Tesla model Y long Range Fremont built is about 27 minutes, the 250kw only lasts from about 10% to 33% then it derates while the Equanox may only start at 150Kw but likly holds that charge rate longer, would be a good test at a Tesla or 350KW other charger, as the 150KW chargers do not handle the current and you only get 80KW due to the low voltage battery.
Alemio’s whitepaper got me hyped-put a few grand in to start. If the presale keeps picking up steam, I’m ready to throw in more. This one’s looking solid!
What they don’t tell you is that the google assistant and navigation is an extra charge over $100/month for the wifi that is required after your free initial trial. That makes the Equinox and any other GM products much less attractive.
So... what are those "numerous" reasons? I have no interest in autonomous driving, and certainly no interest in spending thousands of dollars extra for it. My opinion isn't going to change. I will never trust it.
One advantage or disadvantage as you see it, Tesla has a lot of packaging alongside the sides of its frunk and into the dashboard. This usually means, a small fender bender in a Tesla ends up being more expensive to repair than a small fender bender in other brands. Although, then, you also have to question - how many fender benders are you hoping to get into? Is one or two, or even three fender bender worth losing over significant storage space away, over a period of 5-7 years that Americans hold a car on average?
19:32 It really looks like the problem connecting was just failing to pull forward enough. Or were you physically bumping into the curb or pole and just didn’t show it?
Thanks for the forecast! I need some advice: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
There are 3 Tesla 250 kWh superchargers between Atlanta and Orlando. You can find them with Google maps, I don't know if the Chevy system will route you to them or enable preconditioning. A Ford EV will allow for "Plug and Charge" at V3 and V4 superchargers, plug in with a NACS adapter and no fiddling with the Tesla app.
Nice Comparison! Model Y has a 82 kwh battery though, not 75. Older Model 3s and I think early Ys has the 75 packs. 2021 and newer 3 and Ys have 82 kwh.
I drive a Tesla first and then a Chevy, Hyundai, Ford, and Kia. Maybe if I didn’t drive the Tesla first I might have liked some of the others but I had to order a Y
Convenient and reliable charging is a huge deal. I would never buy a car that has longer charging times if I have the option for shorter charging times-which I do. My Tesla. But it’s nice Chevy is getting into the EV game. They can work out the bugs. Nice to have options
Not a bad vehicle or option at all. I prefer my Model Y overall though. The Equinox front looks too much like a Bolt to me but still looks ok. I do prefer the minimalist look and not having a screen in front of me is no big deal. I know the feel of the vehicle at this point to know exactly how fast I'm going. And my settings are all dialed in so the only time I need to interact with the car is selecting music, volume or Autopilot. I've arranged my HVAC shortcuts and vent position how I like and my left scroll wheel is setup to increase or decrease airflow. I do like that Alexa and Google are built in but I'm a tech guy and have my Android phone setup with Alexa and since my Bluetooth is connected my phone listens to my wake word and audio responses comes through the car's speakers. I will say I do like that it has Waze built in. If Tesla had Waze along with being able to show all the superchargers it would be a game changer for me. I don't care for a bunch of buttons and knobs and see them as dust collectors, especially since I don't fiddle with stuff a lot. Most of those buttons would never get touched. To this day I've never used the cruise control in my gas car because it's lightyears behind current technology. I do like that these cars are similar in price. And it's a great option if you're not into Tesla or it's CEO for whatever reasons. They definitely have to do a little better with charging speeds and I really would like companies to standardize on the charge port location. Driver side rear or passenger side front and everyone can then charge at Tesla.
Forget BTC, ETH, and SOL! Those are yesterday's news. If you're looking for the next big thing, Alemio is where you want to be. With its cutting-edge technology, a 100x return is inevitable.
I wish reviewers would show knee room in the back with the front seat run all the way back. As a tall person, I would not be comfortable driving with the front seat pushed so far forward to make all that back seat room.
Tesla represents Elon, who purchased Twitter, and by that, literally saved America, not only is Tesla the best EV company ever, supporting Elon, is awesome because God used him to save our republic, I’m sticking with Tesla
You'd be surprised how many people are out there that just want an environmentally friendly car and aren't bothered about tech. All they want is an EV with good range, the usual airbag safety features, large boot and that's it.
Sure, I’ve got my BTC, ETH, and SOL stack, but I know they’re not gonna 10x anytime soon. Projects like Alemio, with strong tech and a presale entry, are where the big gains happen. Betting big on it this cycle!
It really looks like when you were charging the Equinox you had at least two feet to pull a car forwards and if you had moved it up even a foot the cable would have reached much better.
I love the ability to choose to have motor sounds. I’m sure that the drivers of early motorized horseless carriages also appreciated the special button that made horse hoof sounds and horse smells to aid in the transition to modern technology.
Horse smells and horse apples. And horse piss. Very important. Yes. Now EV owners must miss their beloved oil change, leaking transmission, stinking exhaust and loud obnoxious sounds and the puff of smoke now and then when the engine is cold.
So nice car, but the problem is, it isn’t a Tesla, but it’s nice to know that GM is still trying! I mean at this point the competition is just pathetic, with maybe the exception coming out of China, with BYD, Xpeng, and some other startups, and the Korean manufacturers are coming out with some compelling cars too, but other than that, no Comprende. Cheers 🥂
So... you post "MSRP" prices versus actual prices from dealerships. You also provide this comparison right before the refreshed model Y is released and you fail to mention anything about that.
Got a solid bag of BTC, ETH, and SOL, but let’s be real-they’re not giving me 10x, maybe not even 2x at this point. That’s why I’m going heavy on Alemio. It’s in presale, has a strong narrative, and solid tech-exactly the kind of project that can deliver big gains!
Ok outer aesthetic keep it aligned with your company style but the guts please please copy from tesla if you OEM wants to survive and for the sake all of who work their please survive
I have a 2018 Model X and a 2024 M3 refresh. We rented a Chevy Silverado EV WT visiting our daughter in Dana Point Ca. We really like the Chevy and it is equipped similarly to the Equinox but a spartan version. It was comfortable to drive with a very roomy interior. I'm going to be replacing the Model X in the next year or two and there are many new options. The Scout Motors Traveler is the leading contender but requires a significant wait time, likey 2027.
I wonder if insurance is cheaper on this car, as it is built like a traditional car. Also, I wonder if maintenance is easier with this car. There are probably more GM dealerships in the country, so there is no need to drive a great distance to a Tesla Service center. In some states, there are only 1 or 2.
Wonder how long they will stay in business losing money on each vehicle? Chevys are on their way out in my opinion. Maybe you ought to sell all of your Tesla stock and buy GM now before its too late.
Good video but reinforces my decision to get a model 3 with FSD. Love the lack of knobs. I don’t even think about setting anything. No key FOB is great. That said this might appeal to people that are more skittish when it comes to making the transition. Minimalist is not for everyone
Having the charging port in the front actually makes more sense so you can park head in and charge rather than backing in. Tesla has it backward like a gas car where you drive through the gas station. Unfortunately their network is setup for their cars so it might make sense to move the front charging port to the other side for third party EVs. Though that means the port is on the passenger side rather than driver side. Might even make sense to have the charging port in front of the car maybe behind the license plate.
On my way back from Launch 6, I encountered an older gentleman in a Chevy. He was mystified that he couldn’t charge at Tesla. I advised him to look up Electrify America and gave him a brief tutorial on charging. The Chevy dealers need to have an explanation of charging do s and don’t s. I keep ChargePoint, Electrify America and Tesla on my phone. I understand there’s another that I need when in the Yukon Territory.
PJ it's the roof that makes it bulbous it looks like an egg on wheels that's what people say and there's no need to talk to death about the new model y like it's enough already just talk about these two stupid cars and get it over with and I can't believe Kim thinks the front facing camera is so much needed like you've been around technology too much just learn how to judge it and just park good Lord

The charging infrastructure, software and FSD are the main reasons why I would never switch to another EV.
Some are good, like Rivian, or high end GM like a Cadillac IQ. Charges at 350kW. This isn't one of them though. Nobody does FSD besides Tesla.
Felt like I was being tortured with the 1 week FSD suspension
Charging infrastructure is not a reason anymore. But charge speed is. This car charges way slower than even the cheapest Tesla.
Good for you

I applaud Patrick's and Liv's decision to go for an Equinox EV. It's a great choice!
45min at a charger for that example trip? Come on. That alone would make Tesla to be the winner
They told you peak charging speed is 150kw which isn't class leading. If you want best in class you get a Hyundai or kia
Idk. If you’re going by charging speed. Tesla isn’t even winning in this category. Many other cars stomp on them in terms of charging speed and curve

Chevy Equinox at $10k less is appealing -- will be curious to see the reliability of the Equinox over years. Much prefer the Tesla online ordering.

Omg I can’t believe the Equinox has an engine compartment under the hood. Eww.
That's a great reason not to get a vehicle
@ it looks like a mess
Ok outer aesthetic keep it aligned with your company style but the guts please please copy from tesla if you OEM wants to survive and for the sake all of who work their please survive
The traction battery in the Equinox EV won't last one year!
Ha! I charge at the same place in Norcross!
Looking forward to the Scout for sure!
Good luck.
The UI is horrid! It sounds and looks like a 1990s BlackBerry Storm interface! LOL Charging is a joke too.
I wonder if insurance is cheaper on this car, as it is built like a traditional car. Also, I wonder if maintenance is easier with this car. There are probably more GM dealerships in the country, so there is no need to drive a great distance to a Tesla Service center. In some states, there are only 1 or 2.
The Chevy is designed to allow first time EV buyers a familiar interior. The Tesla is made for the tech brave
trading what a mistake but somebody needs to buy legacy autos
Wonder how long they will stay in business losing money on each vehicle? Chevys are on their way out in my opinion. Maybe you ought to sell all of your Tesla stock and buy GM now before its too late.
Tesla lost money for over 10 years. So did Amazon…..
How is the crash testing if hit from behind on the highway vs a Tesla Model 3? Asking for a friend.
😭
Good video but reinforces my decision to get a model 3 with FSD. Love the lack of knobs. I don’t even think about setting anything. No key FOB is great. That said this might appeal to people that are more skittish when it comes to making the transition. Minimalist is not for everyone
Sure the transition might be easier, but 3 months later......
Most new vehicles look like the equinox and people must like the look I think it is ugly.
Awesome review 😊
On my way back from Launch 6, I encountered an older gentleman in a Chevy. He was mystified that he couldn’t charge at Tesla. I advised him to look up Electrify America and gave him a brief tutorial on charging.
The Chevy dealers need to have an explanation of charging do s and don’t s. I keep ChargePoint, Electrify America and Tesla on my phone. I understand there’s another that I need when in the Yukon Territory.
You can get a lotta features in a car that the manufacturer is losing money on. Lucid is a particularly good value that way.
