I am two weeks in to a brand new 2024 Equinox EV 2RS in Galaxy Gray Metallic. It’s honestly the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and definitely the most fun to drive. It feels solid and grounded. It is sleek and modern inside and out. It gets up and moves. I do not miss CarPlay whatsoever, the built in Google OS is fluid and responsive. I can honestly say that I’ll never go back to an internal combustion vehicle.
You don’t have to actually pull the front door handle to unlock the back. It’s enough to just lightly tap it (the inside of the pivoted out front door handle). But I still agree, of course. It’s annoying that we can’t just do it on the rear door handle directly.
Just wanted to say thanks for the content and I recently purchased a 3LT a few days ago (I also have a ‘23 VW ID.4). I purchased the adapter from A2Z using your product code. 🙏🏾
Tire Rack has multiple options for aftermarket rims and tires. I put 18in wheels with softer tires and the ride is noticeably better. The Equinox rides so much better and feels "lighter" with smaller tires and non "run flat" tires with a stiff sidewall
I purchased 18” winters which will be putting on this weekend. Going from the 19” on the LT. Good to hear it’ll make the drive even better. Never understood why GM wants to put big honking wheels on some of their vehicles
Super video! Thanks so much! We plan to pick up a 2025 Equinox EV FWD LT tomorrow, to go along with our 2017 Bolt EV. Really appreciate the $2500 EV Loyalty credit currently offered by GM for a limited time ($3000 with financing).
Funny, I have a 2023 Bolt EUV to go with my 24 Equinox. The Bolt is perfect for short, around town trips, and the Equinox is almost a “luxury vehicle”.
Thanks for a great video. I have never driven an EV, but I'm really leaning towards buying a Chevy Equinox EV. I don't need any one feature such as charging speed to be superlative, since I'm a low mileage driver. I'm interested in what the overall experience would be, and you have really covered that item by item. I do see the wheel diameter as a a big issue, and I would lean towards the 19 inch wheels, with more rubber and less metal.
I use adaptive cruise everywhere, it seems to handle better than Teslas Traffic aware cruise control, TACC, not talking about AutoPilot, just adaptive cruise.
Great review! Thanks for that. On our 3LT FWD, we got the 19¨winter tires - Michelin X-Ice HL, and we feel the difference…but our tire guy tells us that once we are due for new tires, Michelin has a better 21¨tire on the market, developped for EV’s. We will certainly change when its time. Can you measure the tread depth of your tires @ 10,000 miles & 20,000 miles? It will give us an idea of when the tire change will come! Thanks again for such detailed informations. Good job!
10:45 My first road trip Google estimated a -8% arrival, I ended up getting there with 26%. :P While I do like it generally, I don't recommend using it to add charging stops. Use it to get to your charging stops.
Appreciate your time and efforts, especially equinox ev videos. I have the 2RS AWD 2024 version. My thoughts. 21 inch tires look better but if smaller tires get better range I'd rather have them. Ride is good with 21s. Super Cruise is just awesome. I use the turn signal activated auto lane change setting. Charging is not an issue at the rate it's at. It's at the beginning of acceptable and convenient. No worries. I really like the software. Works great. Google is really good. Heat pump works great cooling and heating. Noticeable difference in consumption compared to resistive type heater. Heated seats and steering wheel work awesome. I really look forward to your cold weather winter videos with range loss and charging as well as handling on the 21 inch oem tires.
I have mine for 3 months RS2 AWD 21 inches tires. My first problem is the charging port. The smaller screen shows the charging port open when is not. Dealer order a new one . The emergency braking happen to me to at least 3 times mostly when I was in slow movement in traffic really scary. Just bought winter tire Hakkapelitta R5 SUV 2456018 similar height but less wide. Very quiet runs thanks for the video
The navigation system is great, but I miss the calendar option of the Tesla. I have many appointments per day and love to tap the calendar and tap the appointment to go to.
I too found the emergency brake a little to sensitive, nothing critical though. I noticed that the rain, water drops on the cameras, can confuse the car and make it think there's an obstacle, but so far that only happened to me when I was reverse parking.
I noticed on B roads that Super Cruise will reduce the speed for an upcoming steep curve and a curve symbol will appear on the dash. That's really cool.
I have driven three new Equinox EV’s and was hooked after the first one. Having seen videos of the new Cadillac Optiq, I think that’s the one for me. Any idea when and where it will be built? I feel the few issues that the Equinox has will be corrected in the Optiq.
I've had mine for a little over a month. Only complaint is that the safety sensors are too sensitive. Other than that, I'm having fun with it. The funky blue color on some the interior is a little weird.
In regard to the center console sloppiness when you rest your arm on it….this is not a design issue. My 3LT does not jiggle at all. I think you have a fixable issue you should have your dealership correct
There’s a lot to like about the Equinox EV. Plus the carryover of major components to the $35k base LT makes it an absolute steal. I would love to see a mid to small sized truck off its chassis and drive train. An El Camino variant with 2 seats and 6’ bed, or a 4 seat crew cab with 4’ bed that is extendable via the GM midgate design.
Our biggest struggle with having this car is the limited charging network. We live in central WV and with Enelx closing we have lost all chargers within an hour of us. We bought the Tesla adapter but none of the stations within an hour of us unlocked either and are still Tesla only. It’s made west Va a true charging desert and it’s made us only use the car around town.
That sucks. There's still too many places within the US where there is a charging desert. I'm assuming the Tesla superchargers that are anywhere near you are V2, which non-Tesla owners cannot use, even if you have an adapter. 😢

Great review, thanks! I have been looking at one of these and this is helpful. I have one question, does it have Sirius 360L(where you can set alerts for specific artists)? Thanks!
I have the AWD version and mirror almost all your thoughts. I feel the Equinox is a great value for an EV, it just gives you a lot for the money. I have been using Superchargers and have not noticed the GM dip yet. I would echo your thoughts and think coming in at a Supercharger at around 15% and charge to 80% ... most of the time you'll avoid the dip. I appreciate the power of the AWD for passing/merging and the penalty of about 5-10% range was worth it to me. (I'm avg about 3.1 - 3.2 efficiency in warm weather).
We have the AWD drive and I find it very peppy and I’m glad we purchased it for the winters in Canada. I originally wanted the FWD but dealer accidentally ordered it in AWD but I’m glad they did.
I've had my 2024 Equinox 2LT EV for 7 weeks and love it. One thing I've noticed is that the back exterior gets dusty/ dirty within a week of getting it washed, even if I'm just doing mostly around town and highway driving (30 mile commute one way) on all paved roads. Why is that?
My guess is the hatchback design creates more of a vortex at the rear end that sucks dirt out of the surroundings and dumps it on the back end of the car. A sleeker design that cuts through the air more smoothly such as a sedan could create less of a vortex, and dump less dirt. That said my old Sedan still got plenty dirty. We're also in that time of year when dust and dirt that's been dropping on the roads all Summer is now wetter and stickier, so more likely to stick to the vehicle, whereas in the drier Summer much of it doesn't stick, or blows/is sucked off.
My old Mazda 3 saloon got a dirty back window just from sitting in the driveway for a few days, due to dust and dirt in the air. And no rear wiper. The flatter the window the more dirt just drops on it and stays there.
Would you please do a video on testing the home charging schedule set up. I have a 2025 Equinox LT and I have tried a few different configurations and none consistently follow the schedule. I previously had a 2019 Kia Niro and the charging schedule worked and also allowed me to start and stop charging from the app. Thanks for your TH-cam channel.
Something I am curious about, and maybe you can work it into your cold weather reviews, is how do the recessed headlights perform in snowy weather? As a former long-time winter weather driver from Buffalo, I wonder whether they will pack with crud and slush , thus making them useless, or do they have some sort of mechanism or heat source to keep them clean? And even if they only fill with snow, how hard are they to brush off after a good night's snow?
One thing that needs to added when folks talk about the great charging speed advantage is that you need a 350kw charger to hit that 18 minute figure and most chargers are less than that. You won't do that at a Tesla station or at anything less than a 350kw CCS charger which means generally speaking the gap between the equinox and ioniq5 is not as great as stated.
@@theaverageev thats fine, but that is a more realistic figure considering that the overwhelming majority of DCFC points in America are NOT 350kw. Hyundai just said the 2025 Ioniq will need 30 min to charge 10-80 at a tesla station, but the existing models with adapter will need more than that. So 10 minutes more for occasional dcfc on road trips isn't exactly a crisis for most people.
@@shethjones4494 I agree. It depend on each person’s specific use case. When I’m traveling with my family, the car is usually waiting on us. So 10 mins longer isn’t a big deal.
@@theaverageev I appreciate that you are a real world user- many EV reviewers these days are just spec junkies and once the newest, fastest charging thing comes out they trash everything that's not class leading with no regard for how people actually use these vehicles. And let's not forget the used EV market is getting bigger every month and most of the used models out there are not coming anywhere near what the E-GMP cars can do on the right charger. Even Tesla's can't match them but people survive.
So I haven’t been watching many of your recent videos as they are Equinox related. How would you rate the equinox to the ID.4? We’re almost a year into owning our ID.4 and over 22k kms under our belts. No problems and we love the EV experience. Ok sometimes the Id.4 software drives me crazy, but overall we’ve been very happy.
Yes you can navigate the mp3 files while driving no issues. my only problem is I wish they had put a hidden usb in the console so the usb stick was not in the open to get in the way.
All very good points made about this vehicle. This may sound crazy but it's very important for me to have a good sounding stereo system. How is the stock stereo in it?
It’s too bad that the Equinox is not available with a premium sound system. I think there are a lot of people who would like a fully maxed out version of the car with every bell and whistle.
for better or worse (probably worse) availability of premium sound is one of the few significant differences between the blazer and equinox Ev. For 2025, the equinox gets almost everything the blazer had for 2024, except Bose sound- which is limited to one trim on the blazer.
I have had my Equinox EV for a few weeks. I have mainly driven the vehicle during the day. I drove it this evening and it seems the small light from above the center console shines down. I also noticed the light in the storage area in the center console has a small light that seems to be one. I am not certain if these light are on during the day time. They are not astronomically bright, but I wanted to see if anyone knew if this was normal or if I needed to take it into the dealership.
It really is tough. For my use case I prefer the Equinox because of the comfort and space. For roadtrips, it remains to be seen. I'm thinking likely the ID.4. I love how it drives and the charging is perfect for my family timing wise. The ID.4 also has slightly more storage capacity. I also prefer the regen of the Equinox over the ID.4, but that is purely a preference thing.
Not that I am aware of. The car pretty much is FWD unless you are accelerating. The rear motor only spins up when needed, which is good for efficiency!
With super cruise it is dead center in the lane on highways. On B roads it is usually ok, but I have had some instances where it ping pongs or even worse veers out of the lane, typically at tough curves.
Would you recommend this vehicle for someone that drives 50,000km (31000 miles) a year? I have a 200km (125 mile) daily commmute all highway and will burn through warranty in 3 years. Hoping to keep the car for at least 5 years.
3 weeks in with a 2025 Equinox Ev 2rs black, I've done a long trip from Montreal, Qc to Niagara Falls, On and had very few charging station available on the infotainment wondering if I have to manually add them to the system or add apps. Why I saying that it's because I was driving on a road and saw some other charging station not offered from the infotainment, It got me very annoyed seeing this. Thank you for any comment or opinion.
You can choose the charging providers in the navigation. I'm wondering if maybe not all of the Canadian charge networks are in there? We are pretty well covered in the US.
The data connection is included for 8 years. After that, there is a subscription (I don't know the cost). You do NOT have to have the Hotspot connection for the maps.
I’ve had my 2LT for 3 months . People ask do you like it? I answer “ so far so good”. But I sure wish I had that NACS/CCS1 adapter! Dealer has my pre-order but they haven’t a clue when it’ll be here. Then they say, order it on the Chevy app🤔 Can’t do it! I drive past a lot of Tesla stations to find a CCS1!
Nothing on the Tesla app about ordering an adapter. This is a huge problem for me. I drive by multiple Tesla facilities to find an Electrify America or other. In a previous video you suggested that Tesla/GM won,t know you used an aftermarket. But they could know I used a Tesla charger, but I can’t show proof of purchase of the proprietary adapter. This could be a problem if my Equi has future battery-pack problems? If GM can’t supply the approved adapter by Dec 31, I’m trading it for a ID4 or other that comes with an adapter! Great vehicle but for the $300 adapter.
You order it through the myChevrolet app, not the Tesla app. In the upper right corner there should be a circle with your initials. Click that then click public charging. Sometimes I have to click it twice to show the actual public charging options. You should see several options, one of them being Tesla. I think it says activate? Once you do that there will be a link to order the adapter.
Getting Riptide Blue delivered in 2 weeks. It's a Equinox 2025 LT, can't spend anymore than that. It's coming with Options....... Comfort Package, Active Safety Package 2, Blackout Package, Dual Level Charge Cord. Getting $7500 IRA incentive because trump is going to kill the deal. MSRP $37,865 - $500 (dealer disc) - $7500 = $29,865 before taxes/fees. Really didn't want black out package but I can't find RB any where else. Comments?
One more thing, when talking about competitors it amazes me that the Mach E never comes up- it is one of the top 5 or 6 Evs in sales and it only has 150kw charging and charges only marginally faster than the Equinox EV and of course fully loaded it costs more than the Equinox. Which suggests that dcfc speeds are not necesarily the top concern for regular EV buyers- meanwhile the EV6 which shares all of the advantages of the Ioniq5 in terms of charging sells in relatively modest volume. Another data point, the Prologue has a real shot at becoming the best selling non Tesla EV next year and it has the same dcfc speed as the Equinox. If you charge at home 90% of the time this isn't a big deal.
I agree about the Mach-e. I was just referencing EVs with sub 30 min 10-80% charges. I will say that the Mach-E is at least consistent, unlike the Equinox EV. The Prologue story is interesting, I know many people want the Chevy EVs but the no Carplay is a big deal and they don’t get it. Not sure if those buyers are going Honda?
@@theaverageev my guess is a lot of the prologue buyers never even looked at the Chevy Evs. And the success of the prologue really calls into question the obsession over dcfc charge times- in fact it was one of the reasons why reviewers were lukewarm on the Honda when it launched. Now you can say for sure the Prologue doesn't charge any differently than the Equinox. ANd Im no expert on the consistency of the Mach e but my understanding is the pre-2024 models needed 40min to do 10-80% and Ford made some improvements for 2024. You do dcfc as part of your channel so you do it a lot, most do it so infrequently they aren't really going be tracking if it was 36min vs 40min or 42min and many of them probably won't do 10-80 or 20-80. Ive been to a dcfc 3 times in 5+ months and two were just for experimentation purposes. Also, depending on the trim of the ioniq5 (which I looked into and test drove) you may be looking at 230-240miles on the highway. The rwd model has equinox like range, but you can't get any nice features unless you step up to the AWD model with 265 mi of range per EPA but is under 250 in real world highway test. So the charging is super fast (if you can get 350kw) but you can't cover as much ground without needing to stop.
The irony is that the Prologue is a rebadged Chevy Blazer EV. Its specs should be nearly identical to the Blazer. That probably explains the similarity in charge speeds.
@@paulwindisch1423 yes, this is widely known- my point is that it is outselling numerous Evs that have faster DCFC. When the prologue debuted most focus was on a)the fact it was made by GM much to the chagrin of reviewers and b)"slow" dcfc speeds. Thus far its been a sales success which has debunked some of the presumptions made by the auto media.
Presumably the "Built in" Google maps requires a Chevrolet Wifi subscription? How much is that per month? My wife (driving a Bolt) just uses Google maps on her her phone and uses Android Auto to connect and display on the center screen, when necessary.
I have a 2024 Equinox EV 3RS and I think it's a great car and I think in some ways it's better than my Tesla Model Y in terms of features and just the way it works EXCEPT for setting charging time. Chevy or rather General Motors has the dumbest pain-in-ass method for automating charging there is. All I want to do is tell the car to start charging at midnight until it hits 80% then stop, thats it. Tesla does this just fine but with the Equinox EV you're messing with charging profiles, end times and all this stuff such that you can't just tell the to start charging at a certain time until its full. Its simple but GM will not fix it. People have been complaining about this on the Bolt and Lyric forums for years now with no fix in sight. Outside of that I love it.
In both I set the maximum to below 80% in the energy screen I think. I would think that if you leave that on and set the timer with enough time on the out that it would stop at 80%
@@rp9674 The point is all you should have to do is set a charge start time and the charge level; thats it and walk away from it. It should just start at that time and quit once it reaches the charge level. The other EV's I've used do this just fine but for reason GM does this is the worst possible way. The Equinox is a great car and I've recommended it to other people but this one thing is just super stupid.
My Equinox 2RS has a problem turning off when I put my car in park and open the drivers door it shuts off about 30% of the time. If it dose not shout down when I open the door it will shut down when I close the door about 40% of the time and 10% of the time it won’t shut down at all and I have to get back into the car put it in drive and then back into park so the off button pops up on the screen and you have to turn it off manually. This is a pain and Chevy has no fix been to the dealer 3 times for this they have no idea what to do. Also I can not hook up anything to the sound system via USB not even my phone will connect by USB Chevy has no fix. These things don’t affect how the car performs but it’s a nuance The dealer can’t help I have called Chevy customer service talked with an engineer but no fix or idea on how to fix it.
I'm wondering why this has been removed (I have it in my '22 Bolt), and my suspicion is so they can sell you something more expensive instead to do the same job.

We're also in that time of year when dust and dirt that's been dropping on the roads all Summer is now wetter and stickier, so more likely to stick to the vehicle, whereas in the drier Summer much of it doesn't stick, or blows/is sucked off.
I suspect it happens on many cars of this shape. At least, we have a rear wiper unlike some others.
My old Mazda 3 saloon got a dirty back window just from sitting in the driveway for a few days, due to dust and dirt in the air. And no rear wiper. The flatter the window the more dirt just drops on it and stays there.
Would you take this rather than the ID4 after 4 months owning it?
For women driving alone, the option is only open the drivers side door as you approach the car … is important
I believe the difference for Ioniq 5 at a 150kW is 8 minutes longer. So it is still about 10 minutes fast assuming perfect conditions for the Equinox.
Can you add a link to your EV charging site reviews? I'm in the DMV so I'm interested. Might want to add it to your description for this video too.
It is there! Under Follow My Other Social Media!
@theaverageev Sorry I didn't see it. Thanks!
Im curious about how the radio works when you put a USB stick with mp3s on it to listen to. Can you navigate the files while driving?
I have never done that and do not have USB-C drive to test. Maybe someone can chime in?
I would imagine you navigate using the music options on the center touchscreen. Maybe book a test drive so you can try for yourself?
Yes you can navigate the mp3 files while driving no issues. my only problem is I wish they had put a hidden usb in the console so the usb stick was not in the open to get in the way.
My Equinox will not connect to my USB devices and Chevy can’t fix it.
All very good points made about this vehicle. This may sound crazy but it's very important for me to have a good sounding stereo system. How is the stock stereo in it?
The sound system is not great.
Nope. It’s not great. That is disappointing.
Does the Equinox have a heat pump?
It is my understanding that all GM EVs "formerly known as Ultium" have heat pumps.
Great video. So the big question is, overall, do you enjoy more your Equinox EV or your ID.4?
It really is tough. For my use case I prefer the Equinox because of the comfort and space. For roadtrips, it remains to be seen. I'm thinking likely the ID.4. I love how it drives and the charging is perfect for my family timing wise. The ID.4 also has slightly more storage capacity.
I also prefer the regen of the Equinox over the ID.4, but that is purely a preference thing.
@ It was a hard decision for me as well to choose between those two but I decided to go with the Equinox EV since it’s a lot cheaper here in Canada.
can you switch from awd to fwd or vise versa?
Not that I am aware of. The car pretty much is FWD unless you are accelerating. The rear motor only spins up when needed, which is good for efficiency!
How well does the lane centering work. Any ping ponging?
With super cruise it is dead center in the lane on highways. On B roads it is usually ok, but I have had some instances where it ping pongs or even worse veers out of the lane, typically at tough curves.
I want to add lane centering is only active with Suoer Cruise.
@@theaverageev Thanks, since you have both. how does it compare to the ID.4?
I have a 2024 Equinox Ev 3rs....There doesn't seem to be any roads here in British Columbia Canada for Super Cruise.. Thoughts?
A few years ago a test fir Bolt showed hywy 1 in Burnaby to Abbotsfotd
Do you need to have a data connection to use Google built in MAPS or GPS?
The data connection is included for 8 years. After that, there is a subscription (I don't know the cost). You do NOT have to have the Hotspot connection for the maps.
Is supercruise like the Tesla auto driving? Another words can you set a destination and have the car take you there?
No. It is kind of like Tesla Auto Pilot that you do no need your hands on wheel for. It only works on remapped roads.
How does the stereo sound? Gotta enjoy your road trip with some music.
I am not wild about the sound system I like to rock and it’s not loud enough.
That is super odd... you should be able to do it on your app after you allow Tesla access...
Most Lyriq owners have turned off Rear AEB and only have it on "Alert"
I'm mulling it over, but in the event that it does help I would hate to not have it...
So far, I've heard of disadvantages of having 21" wheels (worse efficiency, rougher ride, more expensive) What's the point of having them anyway?
Are you annoyed by the fact that the driver side wiper doesn’t sweep far enough to the left and leaves a large blind spot?
My Equinox EV is always slamming on the breaks while I back down my driveway, which is also very steep.
turn off auto reverse braking
I’ve taken off the safety features because it’s too sensitive.
Presumably the "Built in" Google maps requires a Chevrolet Wifi subscription? How much is that per month?
My wife (driving a Bolt) just uses Google maps on her her phone and uses Android Auto to connect and display on the center screen, when necessary.
8 years free
waze, spotify and other built in apps are free for 3 years. Only google maps is free for 8 fyi
If I'm correct, the only have you have to do is give it an exaggerated end time, and it should stop at the percentage you selected
your bill fold is holding the console lit up
It's the same when completely empty too, unfortunately.
I see you have 1 pedal driving turned on. 1 pedal perversion!
Do a pros and cons
Need apple carplay
I'm wondering why this has been removed (I have it in my '22 Bolt), and my suspicion is so they can sell you something more expensive instead to do the same job.
sounds like you need a different ev
@ u are right!
Yeah I'd say looks very average.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Bumper to bumper is 3/36,000, Powertrain is 5/60,000, and the electrical (including the battery) is 8/100,000.

Better get a hybrid!
