    I just had this same thing happen yesterday and used the magic patch to cover the hole. Fingers crossed, so far so good ...a longtime friend, who is a burner tech, saved the day for me telling me about the magic patch. cost was 40

      Yes the patch and the silicone is holding up excellent. No more leaks. Waiting for the tank to run dry and then replace it.

      @@J0Boa If it works, why replace the tank?

      @bungalowmo not worth risking losing $800 in fuel and a $100,000 clean up. And if leaked once, it will leak somewhere else for sure

    A bar of soap does the trick for a temporary patch. Believe it or not it works well. Rub it across the hole like using a cheese grater. Stops the leak immediately. Then you can concentrate on permanent repairs or replacement. Epoxy resin also works very well.

    It’d be nice to know if after two years it’s still doing the job. I don’t know if this guy still replies to people inquiring about it because I’m planning on doing it this weekend.

    Just got mine replaced, but it had not started to leak... 36 years old and I was being cautious and did not want to risk a rupture!

    Thanks for sharing - this helped me a lot. I tried the soft foam pipe insulation first with a 1.25" round rare-earth magnet and it worked for about 36 hours and started to drip again very slowly. We caught all the oil and noted that the drip rate increased over the next 48 hours. We replaced the foam patch with the Magic Patch and there have been no drips for a week. We did not use any adhesive and will consider that if the Magic Patch starts to drip before we replace the tank. I examined the foam patch to see why it worked initially and then failed. It appears that the reason it failed was because the pressure from the magnet completely flattened the foam over time so that it was almost paper thin and could no longer seal the leak. The Magic Patch is designed so that the magnet can only compress the foam by about 50% so that this cannot occur. Hopefully it will work for a much longer time period. Can anyone share how long the Magic Patch worked for them please? Thanks

    That thing might work great on a flat surface, but my leak is a pin hole on the bottom curved surface. I bought 2 of those, not being sure if there may be more than one hole. This does NOT work on the curved underbelly. Even tho those magnets are strong, they don't click down well enough for a tight seal. I will have to continue my search for another product.

      Did you find another temporary fix?

    • @bungalowmo
      @bungalowmo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@emilymarquez426 Not yet. Today I tried a couple skinny flat head nails to see if that would do it. So far it's a no. Tomorrow I'm on the search for a VERY skinny screw and some thin rubber I can use for a makeshift gasket.
      I tried 2 different types of those flex seal tape products (didn't hurt to try). Both failed miserably.
      As of right now, I have a small nail up in the hole and a 1 gal gas can with a funnel. Drip Drip Drip.

      I’m glad I read your post. Thank you for putting that cause mine happens to be kind of on a curved area not a major curve like more like the end of it heading towards flat but I see a point pretty much most of the boilers curved.
