I don’t think I’ve ever seen an athlete with such talent pull off such an upset, especially on the worlds biggest stage. He is definitely going places as one of the best middle distance prodigies to exist. I totally think that he can expand his talents to even longer distances, and it would be such an amazing thing to see how far he can take his times in distances such as the 3000m or 5000m, which aren’t even his strong suites.

It wasn't an upset but it was extraordinary and Jakob is here to stay and break WRs. Timothy coming off injury, finishing 4th at trials, yet managing to snatch a silver medal is testament to his resilience. With Timothy out of the picture (when we all thought he wouldn't be selected), ingebrigtsen became the favourite.
A real upset was eliud kipchoge in 2003 world champs 5000m or Jacobs in the tokyo 2020 100m final, or the Italian 4x100 squad.
But anyone who doubted ingebrigtsen 2 years ago is eating crow right now. I think he'll run a 3:24. Crazier things have happened... gidey running 62 mins in the half, which sounds like an elite men's time

5:00 Komen didn’t start to fade. He stopped trying. If you know Komen’s story, you know that he was never particularly passionate about elite running by itself. He used elite running to get himself and his family out of poverty, and once they were out for good, he stopped trying to so hard and let his pro running career end early. He even sandbagged the Kenyan trials in 1996 so that he could get more races and a faster payday during the season.

He is a talent that is so rare. It is great that midlde distance runing, in particular the 1500m is such an attractive event to watch again thanks to the Jakob, the Kenyans and the new wave of British runners such as Kerr who has a kick like a mule in the last 200m and could well have won the race had a pace of 3.36 been set, so the fast finishers are pushing the front runners to set up fast times in order to medal. themselves. He's got the raw speed necessary, and his stamina is clearly not an issue, so honestly I think he CAN break all of them from the 1500 to the 5k maybe even 10k with his battery. I think he'll be much more likely to break them in an actual competition, as opposed to those meets that are really just WR attempts dressed up as actual races. He always runs better against competition, and if he had someone truly testing him the entire race, I think he'd likely explode through the last 800-1000m and basically execute them on the track and snatch the WRs at the same time.

I really hope that all the young athletes today get to continue to improve all the way into their 40's like the Goat Jan Frodeno.
I think both Jakobs can lower the wr in all distances from 1500 all the up to the marathon and i hope they start doing some marathons soon so that we can see a progression in their times going from 2h10min doin to 2h flat instead of them doing their first marathons @2h2min in 5years.
And also it would be really cool if someone like Jakob did some 50k races when in peak form and not years after their peak performance. Just to see what's what...
And by running standard their is a lot of true heroes but I don't know if you have done a video on yiannis kirros from Greek yet ? That is a guy that really could do the Long distances.

A pleasure to get another fresh analysis. Looking forward to Jakob’s 2022 Season. Well, Jakob is already one of the best of all time. The question is will he become the hands down greatest middle distance runner the world has ever seen. I think he will, provided he stays motivated and mentally healthy. He seems mentally tough. With all the hype, he needs to be tough. He will break the WR in 1500 and mile. I think it will take a couple of years before he can make 3:25, and it will take perfect Monaco type conditions. A time trial might work. Competition with Cheruiyot will be important. Jakob will surely lower his 3000 time closer to 7:20. That would have happened this year but his schedule didn’t work out. The Lausanne 3000 late in the season was way too windy. Let’s see.

Yes, and Jakob has plenty of time to set the bar even higher than Komen. Jakob’s improvement has almost been a linear increase for the past three years. There’s no reason to doubt that he could ultimately be the best middle distance runner ever. I would not say that two years ago. Now it seems quite probable.

I really do believe that Jakob can go sub 3:26:00 for 1500. He has such speed and endurance and his ability to turn in negative splits make me think that. Let's hope he stays injury-free as grows fully into his 'man-strength' over the next 5 years. I cannot see him doing the marathon, his body type doesn't lend itself to that - for me his joints will be crippled above 5k on the track. Maybe the occasional 10k, but for me he shouldn't look to do many 10k's, as I think that would fore-shorten his career. There so many track stars, and Norway are so lucky right now with both him and Warholm at the helm.

He has insane capacity which is the most important thing for longer distances. After he is done with the shorter distances, he will probably lean down and pursue the longer ones. Many of the good long distance runners started out as middle distance runners and pursued longer once they lost their explosiveness.

He's got a shot at several world records. All the events for which PBs were listed in this video. He's 2.33 seconds away in the 1500. That's the equivalent of being 0.62 seconds off per 400m. He's young, and yet in 2 years' time he dropped 1.8 seconds in the event. I think he can drop 1.5 seconds by the 2023 World championships. That would put him 3:26.8, and less than 1 second from the WR. He would be just under his 23rd birthday. I think he'll break it just before his 25th birthday. Same goes for those other events.
