If you put a thin 1/2 inch strip of card on the fabric edge first, ( glue it) and fold it over once, before stapling it. It will work much better and give a good base. You can turn it over b4 stapling so that staples do not show. I learnt this from my professional upholsterer brother, who uses it to attach side and back panels to chairs, sofa's etc.
You need a cute shop cupboard sign over the door. Tea or honey from the area and mugs with a design of the Chateau on them. You need labels (maybe leather) with your business name to go on your bags or anything else you sew and want to sell. The cupboard looks promising. I used to put on some big events with vendors and I always told them to have some really inexpensive things and some high valued things be to sell, that way everyone can buy a treasure to take home as a gift or personal treasure. Oh well just some thoughts off the top of my head.
Personally I would love it if you guys had an online shop for those of us that won't be able to visit. I love the candle in particular, even better if you could create one a bit larger? I absolutely love the 3-D print of the Chateau as well. Tea towels with the image that was created for the posters, is a suggestion. In fact I would wear a t-shirt with that image as well. It's all lovely and I really enjoy your channel. Much love and Hello from Seattle, Wa.
I truly love how open you two are about the ups and downs of DIY/Crafting/Making! It is so realistic and really helps fight against the "instagram" effect that makes things look easy and contributes to folks looking down on themselves for not being "perfect." Love it!
If you use a thin 1/2 inch wide strip of card, glued to the fabric edge. it is much easier and gives a better finish. My brother, a professional upholsterer, taught me this method for attatching sides and backs on sofas and cahirs. Gives a much better finish then fabric without a card edging, and gives it strength so tacks or staples do not rip fabric.
Love the shop cupboard and seeing the process. I liked that you included the option that didn’t work. Beautiful items in the shop. Love the makeup bags.
I love watching you both work together and this video is one of my top favorites. I was laughing with you and enjoyed watching the process for the cabinet! Thanks for sharing!
What a lovely room with built-in bookshelves...loving the vibe & the warm beige wall color!! Very charming, indeed, Steve & Sara!! Your little shop has various items that would make great presents for any occasion!! 🇺🇸
You guys always end up getting it done and make a positive change to your projects. I wish you believed in yourself a little more. Stop seeming so scared by diy or renovating, you have to give it a go and not give up. It seems like if it’s not perfect you’re not satisfied but if it’s any improvement that’s a win. Even with the barn, we know that you guys are not gonna be able to completely rebuild it but as long as you’re stopping more damage from happening and actually using the space that’s what matters don’t be concerned with the internet’s opinion. ❤❤❤❤ you guys can do anything 😍
I think at one time I saw a charcuterie or cutting board with the chateau name on it, I would love one! Might be something to add to the shop so I can get one the next time I come! ❤️
An idea for your shop. Cover a notebook with French pattern fabric and then Write or glue finely made letters spelling out ‘ My Manor & Maker Experience and or your Chateau name. Your retreat guests could write a diary of their stay. What do you think about that idea?
The bags look great. Maybe Steve can design a fabric pattern for the Chateau which Sarah can make into the makeup bags for a special souvenir for the shop? Using paddle pop sticks to keep the wick in place during pouring may overcome the issue Steve experienced.
A canvas tote bag would be cool. But should it be peasant fabric, toile, or some of Steve's original artwork? Viv's bags are so cute, but you two can come up with something just as great! Happy Fall Y'all!!!
I felt like I was right there ,watching your fail in the closet store.😢. Your solution…fabric and lights…..did the trick - for now. Your objects for sale are great! Now we need to know the cost of each. ❤
I always feel if I learn one new thing a day….my day has been great.❤️❤️. The shop, I think, needs some decoration around the outside to draw your eye in and perhaps the inside with some eg. dried flowers or foliage to take the starkness off the background colour. You could make it seasonal. 🍁🍂❤️. Good luck Olive😍
Maybe you could see if the wood shelf rests could be removed. Then wallpaper without having to cut out each around the rests. Replace them and it would be much more pleasing and less hassle.
Maybe make some sort of Christmas ornament. It be fun if you, Lalande, Dan’s chateau and chateau love collaborate in some sort of way and make it a collection where everyone has to order from each one to get the set or something like that.
Skillshare should ask you to teach closet transformation! 😁 OH wait nevermind. 😪😉😂 Teasing LOL I'm actually sitting here repairing a bad restoration I did on a Barbie a few years ago. I have since figured out a better way and trying again. It's never too late to learn and try again. 🥰 BTW the closet looks fine in the end! 🥰
Hi guys, love all the choices. Wide range for different interests. I would purchase from your on line store . Start with your in house shop and go from there . Very nice!!
food for thought: If you use a particular scent of shampoo/soap or lotion in your guest bathrooms, you could include this in your "store front" sales. That's one thing I like to purchase when traveling , which is luxurious scents to remind me of my visit
Such cute cabinets! I have seen liquid starch to adhere fabric on walls. There must be something online about using it. The fabric is soaked in the solution, and then put up like wallpaper. It was on DIY shows in the 1990's. (I even had a book). Just another idea. It worked real well and could be removed. The way that you made covered panels is great too! You both are always so creative! Thanks for the wonderful video!
I think Steve did an awesome job on the posters and I thought he might make some postcards in the same look if you can find the right card stock , plus copy the ones you have already.
Hehehe. Those fails happen in every home. Being crafty mine sometimes land in the bin before anyone sees them. Lol. A bit of skimming the walls and then a bit of paint would have been far better. Hindsight. Lol. You learn something every time you fail. Life us a learning curve and kudos to both of you for trying. ❤❤❤
Loved the video! Great idea for the little store. Thanks for sharing your process for deciding what to do. You guys are great! (I personally love the Canadian accents too!)
The shop cupboard looks very lovely. I really like the travel poster up at the top. Would love to have one to frame for my sunporch, which will have “vintage“ prints and posters. Love it! Also love the little shadowbox. Great job fellow Canadians! Cheers from Nova Scotia🇨🇦
Wouldn't lightly sanding and paint have been easier? Ahahahaha can't think of a Fail but there are many... Not so bad looking display shelving in the end! Beautiful collection for your shop! ❤
Looks fantastic shakey start but as always you two always make it work. Steve with the wick try and keep it straight as you are pouring the wax. My tip is to place a straight stick on either side of the wick before pouring the wax, as the wick burns it follows the wick and if it's not straight it will burn into the side of the candle and wax will go everywhere ask me how l know. Mine was soy wax and that needs to be in a glass container and the wick being crooked broke the side of the glass container. Wax everywhere. That was one of my many fails😊. Thank you for sharing all you and Sarah do.
Lovely little cupboard for your store - u love the candle and soaps - aprons would be good idea - make up bags are lovely you could do wash bags and make up brush rolls etc - endless projects - local brocante finds maybe ❤
I love all your ideas!! I would definitely be interested in buying some as gifts!! Would it be possible to print out ( copy) the postcards so they’ll always be available? You could then keep the originals. Question: Are the little make up bags lined? Having a plastic lining ( cut up plastic shower curtain liners are inexpensive) - that would help keep things tidy inside. Steve could make drink coasters - maybe wood burning the chateau imprint? I personally love to buy note cards of places I visit which have been painted and copied. I take them home and frame them! My favorite is the chateau in Quebec…. ( two older gentlemen sit out front on a bench). You could buy small, old decorative frames at a brocante and show an example of the framed paintings finished. Christmas ornaments with chateau painted (or maybe something with the crane.” like your door)… My mind is over flowing with ideas! Lighting up the closet will help show off everything ( here in the states they have stick-on under cupboard lights which can operate with remote control on/ off. … or battery operated. Loving the candle idea! I think it would be even better if it were a bit bigger! You ideas are golden! Open your minds to even more. I’m excited for you!
Loved the video of the shop. What about brown paper bags with your logo to wrap the gift items. Those makeup bags gorgeous. The artwork candle and shadow box are delightful. The portable lights really work. Keep creating makers.
Lovely little store! Hey, just a thought, if those are original post cards, how about keeping them to frame and hang as historical evidence if the Chateau? Perhaps you can sell copies of them if they are old enough, or do hand sketches of them and sell copies of that! Just hoping the originals would stay with the Chateau!
Lol! Despite the fabric having puckers, I think it could still work with one caveat. Use a velvet fabric in a neutral color. When the directional lighting points on it, the wrinkles will appear luxurious 😉
Your new store had a lot of lovely things in it. Hopefully, people will buy lots of the things in the store. Unfortunately, I am on a REALLY STRICT/ tight budget and do not have the ability to buy anything ( right now). I admire how talented and creative you BOTH are! Elizabeth in Texas
Hiya, well since you asked, my thought would be? The lazer cut out machine sorry can’t recall the proper name Anywhoo several small, different creations for all seasons, including holidays, to be hung on trees, walls, etc good luck. Take care Durham Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
there is some kind of craft using paper or papet napkins peeled and scraped once applie to the window it selfCan . dresses up a display l suppose later you might add some batterie xmas liighting . or candle stuff.
Sarah. Love the makeup bags. Will you put the Château name on the bags Great Christmas gifts. Your display cabinet looks amazing. Great video. Thank you
Why dont you try to paint it with annie sloan calk paint? You do needto toscrab it dries really fast with a small amount of paint both for the shelves and wall .ithas satin paints as well
My younger sister bought an expensive table and four chairs from Pottery Barn. It was finished in black and she decided to paint it red. Having no experience, she bought some red paint and slapped it on. Fast forward and the paint started falling off in strips. Discouraged she said no way I'm sanding this down, do you want it? It's a really expensive set! It was a mottled mess of red and black but I said yes, and used it for years with a tablecloth for extra guests. I don’t understand why u didn’t sand it and paint? Glass shelves would also lightened it up too - a small battery light also!
Good ideas. Version 2.0 will be better.
It's called 'creating content' because we don't have anything else to show.
Personally I would love it if you guys had an online shop for those of us that won't be able to visit. I love the candle in particular, even better if you could create one a bit larger? Thank you so much We are planning to sell online so stay tuned!
Cute little shop. Logo tea towels and aprons... light weight, easy to pack and take home.
Great ideas, we will look into that.
I truly love how open you two are about the ups and downs of DIY/Crafting/Making! It is so realistic and really helps fight against the "instagram" effect that makes things look easy and contributes to folks looking down on themselves for not being "perfect." Love it!
I (Sara) fight that so hard myself - that's why Steve does most of our IG!
@@ManorandMaker We try never to say "practice makes perfect" - we say "practice makes possible!" :D

I've messed up sewing my first peasant blouse! I was able to still love sewing myself for over 50 years. I love your shop, thank you!
Oh no! Keep at it - I'm sure it will come together!
Yay, you found a workable solution for the time being. Perseverance pays off! ♥️👍
A lovely display location, and items too.
Thanks so much! 😊
Love the shop cupboard and seeing the process. I liked that you included the option that didn’t work. Beautiful items in the shop. Love the makeup bags.
Maybe just paint the inside of the merch cabinet?
Wouldve been better
I love watching you both work together and this video is one of my top favorites. I was laughing with you and enjoyed watching the process for the cabinet! Thanks for sharing!
Such a cute episode! I think the merch cab came out lovely and some really unique gifts for people to take home as memories.
What a lovely room with built-in bookshelves...loving the vibe & the warm beige wall color!! Very charming, indeed, Steve & Sara!! Your little shop has various items that would make great presents for any occasion!! 🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it
I actually love the shabby chic look of the lower shelf with the soaps!
A Christmas decoration is always a great gift to take home as a souvenir. Greetings from Ireland.

I was going to suggest the same! So easy to do with scrap or even old placemats.
Maybe make some sort of Christmas ornament. It be fun if you, Lalande, Dan’s chateau and chateau love collaborate in some sort of way and make it a collection where everyone has to order from each one to get the set or something like that.

Adorable sale space, and such nice memento's of your handiwork at the chalet, I wish you the very best in sales 😘
Thank you
Congratulations your products are all fantastic and your store cabinet is adorable...great job
Thank you so much!
You both are so talented…the bookcase looks great and all those lovely items., made with love of course. Great job as always ❤❤

Yes, I think that's right. The paint will come with the full room reno, methinks!
Loved the video! Great idea for the little store. Thanks for sharing your process for deciding what to do. You guys are great! (I personally love the Canadian accents too!)
Cute little store 🌼
Painting makes sense for a short term project, but good for you trying other options!

Those who make no mistake in fact make nothing.
Great ideas
Glad you like them!
The both of you are so wonderfully creative! Love the shop!!
You could use contact paper which comes in all colors and styles for the gift shelves.
Surface prep is number one. I agree lights would be great in the cabinets.
Lovely little cupboard for your store - u love the candle and soaps - aprons would be good idea - make up bags are lovely you could do wash bags and make up brush rolls etc - endless projects - local brocante finds maybe ❤

I love the makeup bags! You guys are talented artists! You should do paintings!
Two popsicle sticks laid across the mold will keep the wick straight and centred
Good tip, thank you!
Loved the video of the shop.
What about brown paper bags with your logo to wrap the gift items. Those makeup bags gorgeous.
The artwork candle and shadow box are delightful.
The portable lights really work.
Keep creating makers.
Thanks for your compliments. We'll look into the bags.
Putting a tag in the bags such as made by Sarah at the chateau would be nice too.

What a sweet little shopping space! I am grateful to you for being able to add one of those postcards to my collection.
You could make a picture/ drawing of your beautiful fireplace
Good idea
It looks lovely 🥰🥰
Love the shop idea......
LOVE the makeup bags❤ and the soap bars. Fabulous Christmas gifts
Mirror the inside and install a light to highlight your products 😊
💕Try using a sponge to push out the air when wallpapering on odd surfaces💕
Oh! Your chateau candle is so cute!!!❣️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I made little paintings for the inside sides of a cabinets shelves!
remember startch and fabric works on walls. and most things...!!

Beautiful 😍❤️ xxx
The gift cupboard looks fabulous . May I suggest adding a set of mugs with picture of the chateau 🥰
Nice gifts. Love the poster of your chateau.
castle soaps? or make mold for flat engraved rectangele or square bars?
Nice try. At least it will work for the time being. 😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks
Some suggestions: mugs, aprons tea towels t-shirts keyring. All with your logo or image
And as we say in greek kaloriziko .it means good start and sales
Do the cupboard properly. Steve and Sarah, I've never seen you take shortcuts. Repair and paint ❤
It was still a great table and chairs, and I like to think that eventuality someone actually refinished it.
The shop looks good.
Just do the job properly 😛 Clean it, fill it, prep it and paint it!😊
Hello beautiful little shop, take care have a wonderful week
Removing every second shelf would allow for a spacious display, and the lighting will be better!
Skillshare will be glad to show you how to make candles! Hugs!
I would have sanded, filled, sanded, primed and painted. Much nicer finish and cleaner.
Yes, good ideas - when we have the time and are refinishing the whole room.
Tip-never, ever wallpaper a ceiling 🤦♀️ Two of the three main rooms of the first floor have wallpaper on the ceilings. It’s a white painted tin ceiling style. I figured I would try to wallpaper the one ceiling left and cover the ugly ceiling tiles. Right along the edges of the crown molding, it absorbed some sort of dirt that must have been between the crowns and the ceiling itself. Now it looks tea stained in places 🤦♀️ it was not an easy process! A real mess! This was two years ago and I haven’t bothered fixing it because I’m still so disgusted over my fail😂 I hope this helps!
Great shop😊
Thanks Sue!
I would just paint the cabinet when you get the time! Good idea though!
Those lights won’t catch the fabric afire???
Putting a thin batting underneath the fabric would give a more finished look it will also help with humidity changes or fabric stretching. As someone else mentioned a strip of heavy card stock for the staple gun edges or something like buckram on the edges
Beautiful from Blackpool England 🏴 uk
Didn't you paint inside that cabinet?
I see you have the Syntopicon, Great Books,
I would love to purchase a makeup bag set and one each of the postcards ? Are they available to buy on your website
