I'm an old fart Gen exer but what happened to just dating? Why do people move in after a few months of knowing each other? Specially with children? My mother in law divorced when my husband and his brother were 10 and 8. She dated occasionally but she never brought a man home, at least not until they were in college. His dad dated too but never had a girlfriend move in before he remarried. His dad actually asked for their opinion before he married his second wife.

There should have been a coversation about about him and his girlfriend’s future first. The conversation about the role he plays in her daughter’s life should been discussed before a box was packed. We have consider the child, what if this situation does not work out? Now the child is hurt. This wayy not thought out and rushed. This fellow, though well meaning, is not and never will be her father as long as her own father is in the picture which he is. Furthermore on the chance that this relationship does not last the more superficial it remains, the less loss the little girl feels when mom moves along. The primary focus must be the child. My daughters both have dated single dads, they have insisted on not meeting children 7ntil after six months of dating. Truthfully, none of the relationships have lasted over six months. It is a bit sad when a woman with no children of her own has higher standards for the emotional safety of children than a single mom. Sigh. I know that sounds harsh, and I feel a bit bad saying it. But it is not good for children to build relationships with faux parent figures and mourning that loss over and over. It has long term implications that put them at risk on a bunch of levels.

The way he phrased it. She could not stay where she was (read: someone took her in, like he took her in, may have been a former boyfriend) and income based housing took too long (or so she says) - and she had no use for a longer lasting contract anyway, she is going to move in a few months time (closer to where the father of the child lives) Or so she says. I wonder what has been REALLY going on ? They are not even playing house. She is crashing on his couch with extra benefits. Likely he pays for all the household expenditures.
She is lucky, as he calls in how to deal with her 8 year old daughter I do not think HE is a predator. The mother however is reckless to move in her child with a man that she has been dating for 3,5 months (now they have been together for 7,5 months).

I might get some hostile replies to this but it is my humble opinion that if you have a small daughter you NEVER move a man into the house with you. I mentioned daughter in particular and it is worse when you have a girl but I don't think you should move a strange man into the house with you and ANY small child. It's scary enough when you get remarried and present your kids with a stepfather but I think your children should NEVER be presented with someone who is really just mom's current boyfriend. If the two of you aren't interested in making a long-term commitment, do not involve some little kids.
And if you are right up there next to the angel Gabriel and would NEVER harm a child so the child is in no danger, look at it solely from your own point of view. What happens if you become extremely attached to that child and then you and mom break up? As mom's boyfriend, you have ZERO right to have any future contact with that child.

Don't be harsh with the girl! Talk to the mom alone if there are behaviours or discipline issues and let mom do it or figure it out. Be kind.

Captain save a 304! Saving and trying to fix another mans leftovers and mistakes. Get out while you still can minimize the overall damage. She will use and abuse him more and more as time goes on. What kind of mother would MOVE IN, HER AND CHILD with a man shes only known for a few months! This whole thing is disgusting, clearly a bad and likely desperate mother

@@BestShootermanUbz I don’t think he gonna do it though, he will continue to be a simp for this leech, and I’m almost positive he will make the grave mistake of knocking her up which will put the nail in the coffin on his life being ruined

Bad advice. He clearly has enough options to marry a woman with no kids and start up his new family.

The only advice given to this man should be
Kick them out of your house. You can still keep dating her if you want but you should not be living with her and her eight year old daughter.

Noooooo! Why are you encouraging him to get close to the little girl when he's not married to her mother? That's a disaster. They aren't even engaged, of course he shouldn't be developing a close relationship with the child. Such a sad mess, this is backwards.

A lot of ppl in the comments are projecting their own issues on this man and his relationship. He sounds like a great guy and it’s likely that the mother picked up on that, even only knowing him for as short a time that she did. All Mom’s aren’t irresponsible. A LOT of couples get married in a shorter time frame than this. Him calling in to gain some insight, is truly a sign of his maturity and his emotional intelligence. He realizes that he doesn’t have the tools to handle this situation and is asking for advice. THAT alone, is admirable. The mother clearly made a good choice, choosing this guy. Relax; perfect, judgmental people, in the comments. We know you all have always made great choices. 😒

Of course not. We are all mortal. Mom and her child are a package. Maybe mom wants a breather without getting close to him.
He hesitated when asking about marriage. He will move across the state and have no prospect of being together.
He's intimate with his roommate, but even he is not entertaining marriage. She probably doesn't want to remarry soon.

I let my boyfriend move in with me and my kids after 3 years of dating. Big mistake, he’s a good man, but doesn’t not help financially, couldn’t wait to get him out.

It depends on if the child has another parent that’s active in their life. Communication is huge. You have to command respect as an adult and a parental figure in your own home, but also be a parental influence. There’s no absolute rule so think hard before making such a huge decision.
