Dan, spend some time with the stan and you'll love it. With the different post lengths, barrel sizes, sensitivity adjustments you can get into fit exactly how you want. My personal favorite thing is being able to lock the jaw so that I can practice squeezing the trigger and not firing it. I use it to draw back and just hold on target as long as I can before squeeze off the "shot". It's really helped me not to flinch and the shot.
Stan is the first “higher end” type of release I’ve used. Bought one used off of archerytalk. Had issues with it and had to send it to Stan to have it worked on. They paid for everything besides shipping there, and I had it back within 5 days. Best customer service I’ve dealt with, and I love the release itself. The adjustment and crispness when it goes off is awesome.
Made the switch from the silverback/evo20 to the stand perfex. Best choice I made. The stan is far more consistent then the carter. The carter was fluctuating by several lbs between shots compared to a steady .5ish lbs per shot. I want to get the thumb perfex for S and Gs. But the tension is what I've been shooting solely for several years now
I loved my Nock2it (Carter) until I shot a Stan! The Perfex is $$$! They make standard and heavy versions. Mine is a heavy long neck thumb button, so it has the string keeper to clip on the d loop. Awesome release.
Throwing my two cents in... Love the content, as always Danimal. I'm 35, got into bowhunting 5yrs ago and fell into the Carter release camp pretty immediately, thanks to Dudley. Shot my first several animals with the Silverback, which is a back tension release...I DO love backtension....but I did eventually get the Nock2it, which is nice because it's the exact same shape as the Silverback...but like you, I now touch my thumb/index tips together and pull..which was impossible with the Nock 2 it based ony my hand size..I couldn't get a repeatable thumb position that didn't cause target panic..... I bought the Stan Perfex finally about a year ago....damn...I "get it" now. Yeah they pricey but very smooth, very adjustable, feels as good as the UV hinge in your hands, but you can clip onto the string. I've recently attached it to a wrist strap and giving that a go...tired of always worrying that my release fell out of my bino/pocket... I DO like how the UV Hinge feels in my hand, but the neck on it is much longer and it would require me to shorten my DL and i'm 27.5"...I noticed you were able to shoot them all without much Draw length-related issues...that also might factor into how some of the hinges felt today too. Great video, clearly helps give ppl some ideas about each before they drop 250-300 on one.
I have both of the Perfexs from Stan, shoot both to train but hunt with the thumb release! Also those Stan's felt extra heavy because those are the heavy metal versions, there are other Perfexs that are a lot lighter!
I’m a huge fan of the Sigma. My wife bought me one for Christmas a few years back and I’ve ended my search for a hunting release. I like the scalloped finger grooves, it allows me to shoot a lot more without finger soreness. Carters always seem a bit tight in the fingers for me.
Super dope Nice nice vid, and info shop talk on the releases was sweet, love it, also wish we could get a up close and personal look and experience espec video shots at the the releases themselves… think more close ups on equipment the better…! Yea buddy, send em’!🏹✊
I’ve been looking for a new release lately and would love to see you try the tru ball goat, since it can go from button to hinge. Love the content keep it up!
Another great video, can you try the knock-on silverback and/or nock 2 it? Ps. Can you go in detail more in tension, hinge, and thumb release. What are the real differences? Thanks
Set the click to go off as soon as you anchor in and relax! You don't want it to go off once you start the process, use it to signify the start of your release process. I go back and forth between click and no click. Generally no-click for indoor, click for 3d and trigger for hunting. Good video. Always good to look at whats new in archery!
Was lucky enough to buy one ytd (perfex shortneck alu), arrives on Monday I think. But read some reviews on amazon apparently it had broke for two people which made me very skeptical and instantly regretted the purchase... But IK there are Paid Shills from other companies going around pushing these, and everyone seems to love Stan. Have you had any success with yours?
@@bravefastrabbit770 I have a perfex long neck thumb, and I LOVE it. The last thumb you’ll buy - ability to go from 2 to 3 to 4 finger at any angle is awesome - it’s truly a buy one release and you’ve got it all type system (for a thumb button)
@@jakestockwell4017 Thank you for replying bro! Kinda lowered my spirits reading those two specific reviews and started worrying me, if it breaks I'm fucked as I don't live in the US and need to get it shipped back here which entails tariffs (fuck Sweden). I got the short neck because I feel my draw length is just a little too long, and it was coincidentally the only one in stock lol. They're not produced anymore, and the OnneX will probably have a 3-6 months lead time like any other new archery product for 2022 so I really hope it was a good decision! How long have you had yours and what poundage do you shoot?
I’ve had mine about a year now, and I shoot 70lb! Shot it a lot last year. The only difference I see between short and long neck (aside from neck length) is the hook retainer on the long neck, which the short doesn’t have. Only matters if you leave it on your string though, which I don’t. I use a wrist strap (d-loop material) so it’s always on my wrist when I’m hunting
I have shot the Sigma and own the Stan Perfex and the Carter Wise Choice. I wouldn't have the Sigma, it is too difficult in a crunch to hook it to a d-loop. The Stan is really smooth and much easier to hook to the loop and so is the Carter. I like the Stan over the two. It is lighter and has many adjustments .
Just a thought, I really like that you did this release video but I would really like more detail on how a hinge style works, how to setup, how to hold while drawing (to avoid breaking your face lol), explain the shot process. Maybe MFJJ would be the one to actually do a deeper dive and explanation on using a hinge. Does it help improve the use of an index release? Thanks
I LOVE my Stan Perfex Heavy Metal. I run it as a 3 finger, but I have used it as 4 finger hunting. So much to tinker with, barrel size, post length, creep, sear adjustments, made to be tinkered with. I run the Heavy Metal for 3D and a Blackout for hunting.
Great video as always...question though when opening up the scott sigma did you guys make any adjustments before firing it or did you just locked it in and shoot? I asked cause I just got mines and I'm wondering if I have to make adjustments before firing it...I just don't want to get punched in the face using it for the first time.
Great video! I've been looking at purchasing the ultra view and the stan perfex thumb release. Like you, I hunt with a carter too simple, but have heard great things about the others. Thanks for another great video! Keep it up.
I acquired a pile of releases while I was struggling with target panic. The single best tool I found was the SCAT release - Siegfried's Controlled Automatic Trigger. Once you set it up, all you do is aim and the release will fire after the time you set it for has elapsed. No more target panic. Now, I shoot either a Carter (Just B Cuz and Two Shot) or Stan (Perfex) when practicing and hunt with a junky trigger finger release that I can command to fire. All the proper practice makes the hunting shot a breeze.
I love the Hinge once I got it dialed to me and determined how I wanted to use it. I use the click to start my shot process and it has worked out awesome for me. I have had alot of interest in that Stan Perfex for a hunting release that would complement well with the Hinge. Loved the video guys!
The new hinge 2.0 just dropped today it looks better and fully customizable for your liking love the videos thanks for the honest truth on things and not trying to sell what you use
Thank you so much for this sick video! Also I really think the Stan is ganna do it for me!!! It’s a sexy release and the onnex thumb looks like the money maker!!!!
I shoot the Carter Evolution 2.0 I really enjoy it, but I've wondered if there is a hack for a wrist strap sitting in a tree stand. I get nervous even though I've never dropped it. I have a Scott wrist strap release that I like, but the Sigma looks sweet, though not for the money.
Really been enjoying your channel. I have considered switching to a thumb button release but have the concern of D loop twist. Do you guys have a video that discusses any of that or if that is even an issue?
Give Hot Shot Archery a try. I’d recommend the Hook up for fast and quiet hook up or the X-spot. I’ve compared them to the Stan, Scott and the Carter’s and actually prefer the Hot Shot’s. Worth a look.
Stan perfex heavy metal long neck thumb is hands down the best one out there for a thumb release. I shot one for 2.5yrs until I sent it down range through my bow. Sent it back to Stan for repairs, week later I had a brand new one at my door step
I Shoot a Silverback Plus, Love the Release, the way it functions, everything, Only Thing is it Eats Thru D-Loops, I'm on my 5th D-Loop since October 20th, MFJJ Any Suggestions ????? Help Your Boy Out
I’m new to bows and bow hunting(1.5 years) and been debating getting a better release either a hinge or a thumb or something since I only have a true fire smoke. Could you (Dan) and MFJJ do a video on what releases/type of release you believe to be best for new archers to really learn the fundamentals. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Shot the stainless today. It is extremely comfortable, but not worth $300. In my opinion the upgrades did not live up to the hype. The adjustability is nice, but the tolerances aren't nearly good enough in my opinion. The added width was an upgrade to the overall feel for sure. All that said I would not spend the money on it aluminum or stainless! Side by side with my HBC Flex and the fit, finish and tolerances of the HBC were far better than the ultraview! Ultraview is absurdly over priced compared to its competitors and has an inferior release in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it shot well, but still was clearly missing a few things. At $199 for the Stainless I might be a buyer, maybe.. $299.. not a chance
went from a wise guy to a perfex thumb barrel a couple weeks ago immediately swapped the 4 finger for the 3 finger and love the hell out of it, the first week was rough figuring hand position and not punching but it’s great.
Have you tried the Carter releases by Dudley? I have all 3 before they refined them and released the newer ones and i really love the shape of them and neck position…i like the 2 finger with 3rd finger spot for resting, and i tune the click out of the 2smooth because i jus cant seem to get over the clicking noise at anchor and full draw. I had an UltraView aluminum hinge but i sold it right away because its so light feeling in hand. Brass might be okay but not for 300
I love thumb releases. I’ve tried the sigma and Nock2it. Got a Stan on trade SX3 and haven’t looked back. The Stan is so clean and crisp compared to the others, actually picked up a Stan Shootoff as my backup. If you wanna mess with em I can drop em off. I did go with the ultra view direct mount barrels on them both.
Stan releases are the creme de la creme! Have yet to shoot a release that feels as good as a Stan. The Shootoff TL is a great has been my go to for years now. Truball HBC has been the cleanest hinge for me.
Thoughts on the carter just b cuz didn’t know what thoughts were in the swept back style of the just b cuz since it has the same adjustments of the wise choice
If you love the Scott Sigma, I think you would love the B3 Omega Pro (both amazing hunting releases). Very similar but seemed just a tad bit crisper. Solid video!
UPDATE: About 1600 shots in with the Sigma; **IT'S THE BOMB !!!!!** 1. Ergonomically - nothing...and I mean NOTHING compares. 2. No 'SET SCREWS', just adjust Tension and Movement Directly; can't stand 'Set Screws'. 3. Not only is The Arc that the Thumb Barrel Extension is attached to Sweet (plenty of Angle of Adjustment) it's position/location on the release sets this apart from **EVERY SINGLE RELEASE MADE !!!** Why ?? If the Attachment is set too far forward (towards your middle finger) then drawing the bow back becomes problematic because your thumb must be placed on the 'FIRING SIDE' of the Thumb Button risking serious Dental Work ...and worse. To avoid that - sure, you can angle the extension to be on the same plane as the finger base of the release --like that is shown in the video above, THEN... let THE PUNCHING ENSUE !! I have the extension 90 degrees or straight back from the index finger. When I come to anchor, the thumb barrel naturally fits in the web at the base of my thumb -- NO MORE PUNCHING !!! ---Just lightly squeeze an pull, Voila. The Crispness Rivals that of Fresh Sun Chips. The barrel itself can swivel to any position you wish. The cocking mechanism (most people complain about)/having to physically clip the hook around the D-Loop -- Prevents Dry Firing Your Bow !!! -- it easily just becomes part of your shot routine. IMHO, this is: **THE BEST THUMB RELEASE EVER DESIGNED !!** BAR NONE !! #2 isn't in the Galactic Vicinity. Hope it helps, John
Add a thumb peg to that aluminum UV and drawing with your thumb on the peg. You won't have the problem of it clicking anymore since it can't rotate on the draw. Great video.
I think that for most people it comes down to price on releases, not everyone can afford a release that’s perhaps above $150. But if you could afford anything above that, then it would come down to preference or different application. I personally try a few releases before I made my choice and it came down to a thumb rather than a hinge. As soon as I made a shoot with the heavy metal PERFEX, I felt as if it was made for me. You can imagine how much better it was when I was able to adjust it and get it dialed in. I am fortunate enough to afford the release, which I know I will keep for a very long time. By the way the previous release I was using was the wise choice by CARTER an amazing release as well, however I can’t say anything about the sigma I have never tried one.
@@Jbird24, I don't feel like it does. I'm an xl and longneck on my Stan. There's actually some templates you can print off their website to get an idea of what size you'd need.
I have the stans thumb release. Super crisp and super customizable, but I did have it go off on its own when I had it set super light. Definitely shoot it better under pressure on an animal than I do with an index release.
I had the same experience with my perfex. Shot it for 3 months with no issues, then all of a sudden I had it release on draw. It happened 3 more times within the next few weeks. Readjusted it went well for a few weeks and then happened twice more. Decided to back it off a half a turn from the point of breaking and so far so good. Still alittle worried of it continuing to happen.
Scott pursuit. Cheaper thumb button but I like it. I’ve had a wise choice and it’s a 100$ difference and I don’t notice any difference in my groups. 120 vs 200-220 for wise choice. I like both
Funny stuff. I own 2 Pursuits, and a Sigma. Keep going back to my Pursuit. I like the open jaw and the ease of hooking up to the d-loop compared to the sigma. It is also quiter. But the way you can customize the Sigma on the trigger travel and weight of the trigger makes it also very appealing and easy to use. I hunt whitetail from a stand, so really my release is always hooked to my d-loop and ready to go. So Sigma it is if I could only choose one for hunting. But for practice the Pursuit hands down.
@@Knifestories haven’t ever tried a tension release style like a sigma. Always used a thumb button incase in high winds I do need to command a shot. Hasn’t happened yet but covering bases.
@@Knifestories I prob stick with pursuit bc it’s cheap. Until one day trying some like the Stan releases and others to see what better cleaner breaking release I like.
If you could Trufire Synapse it’s what I’m currently using I like it but realistically it’s the only thumb release I’ve shot I use it stock out of package Would like to hear your impressions Bought it on Amazon for $179.
I got enough releases to outfit a small tribe. Been tinkering with releases for 30 years. Let's just say technology has come a long way since my first. Every now and again I strap that old Winn Archery Free Flight release and it proves why it's in a drawer and a show piece. Winn Archery is still in business today with the same/simular design! Crazy! It's basically a large overbuilt trigger group/lower assembly attached to your wrist. I bet Josh has one hidden somewhere in the history drawer. 🤣. Cheers, gentlemen. STAN Perfex and Carter RX-1 index for me these days.
I'm trying to move from a wrist strap to a Wise Choice but it's difficult to find a new anchor point that works for my current peep setup. Any words of wisdom?
That's funny, was just gonna ask you guys about release, looking for a back tenchen with a thum barrel that you press to take safty off, what do you guys suggest
Can we maybe get a Vid of you and MFJJ showing us how to truly manipulate a hinge release for a true surprise shot during the shot sequence. I think ive been manipulating a hinge wrong with more finger work according to what he mentioned in a video with Tim briefly talking about the push pull method and all back tension, no finger movements
I have so many releases. I have a box of them that I’ve saved up over the years however I just can’t get away from Carter. I’m a big fan of the 2 simple Wise Choice And the chocolate addiction

If you love the Scott Sigma, I think you would love the B3 Omega Pro (both amazing hunting releases). Very similar but seemed just a tad bit crisper. Solid video!
I plan on checking that out! Thanks. -Dan
I LOVE my Stan Perfex Heavy long neck... so crisp and well made and consistent. Ultra fine tune to your hearts desire.
word!
I guess I've been watching the channel too long... I knew what one you were going to pick as soon as I saw the lineup haha
Another Outstanding Video.
Thanks Guys.
ps. just picked up the Scott Sigma ;)
UPDATE:
About 1600 shots in with the Sigma; **IT'S THE BOMB !!!!!**
Hope it helps,
John
What's the main difference between the Honey and the Total Control? Which would you use more?
Review the Scott verge index hinge release
Add a thumb peg to that aluminum UV and drawing with your thumb on the peg. You won't have the problem of it clicking anymore since it can't rotate on the draw. Great video.
Try B3 Archery releases American made products with several handheld options.
By the way the previous release I was using was the wise choice by CARTER
an amazing release as well, however I can’t say anything about the sigma I have never tried one.
Bought a Stan Perfx thumb last year , the adjustability is the best thing about it. Just make sure you get the right one for your hand size.
Does it run small? I'm a medium UV Hinge but I feel like I'd be a large with the Perfex
@@Jbird24, I don't feel like it does. I'm an xl and longneck on my Stan. There's actually some templates you can print off their website to get an idea of what size you'd need.
Enjoy all the videos guys, helps get through the off season lol
Awesome video I currently shoot cobra harvester and it is awesome
I have the stans thumb release. Super crisp and super customizable, but I did have it go off on its own when I had it set super light. Definitely shoot it better under pressure on an animal than I do with an index release.
I had the same experience with my perfex. Shot it for 3 months with no issues, then all of a sudden I had it release on draw. It happened 3 more times within the next few weeks. Readjusted it went well for a few weeks and then happened twice more. Decided to back it off a half a turn from the point of breaking and so far so good. Still alittle worried of it continuing to happen.
A release is like a trigger on a precision rifle. 50$ trufire smoke equals mosin nagant trigger. Stan prefex thumb button equals triggertech trigger.
@@carlosweaver6763 my Sigma is a thumb button release.
@@Knifestories I prob stick with pursuit bc it’s cheap. Until one day trying some like the Stan releases and others to see what better cleaner breaking release I like.
I shoot the Carter Chocolate Addiction 4 Finger and I love it! You should review it bro!
Hey you guys should do a video and rank pack ( mystery ranch, kuiu, exo, and kifaru) and talk about why Kifaru is the bes and if it’s worth the price.
If you could Trufire Synapse it’s what I’m currently using I like it but realistically it’s the only thumb release I’ve shot
I use it stock out of package
Would like to hear your impressions
Bought it on Amazon for $179.
I know this video is old but I really like the Stan PerfeX. I’ve been using it since about 2017.
Hey Dan have you tried the tru fire sear hinge release
Ever shoot the b3 omega pro? I just got one and it’s blowing my mind
Ultraview literally just released the hinge 2 and it looks dope!
word - haven't shot it yet
@@ElkShape I am so tempted in buying it. Not going to lie. Virtually infinite adjustments for the click and fire. Even no click if you prefer
Could you test or give thoughts on Tru-Fire Synapse?
I'm trying to move from a wrist strap to a Wise Choice but it's difficult to find a new anchor point that works for my current peep setup. Any words of wisdom?
I bought that same Scott sigma on sale for 185 online from go hunt. Gotta keep an eye out!
Not being that guy, but I picked up one today for 150 and local shop. Man I like it
Try some releases from B3 .
That's funny, was just gonna ask you guys about release, looking for a back tenchen with a thum barrel that you press to take safty off, what do you guys suggest
How long till Tim has the ultra view 2
I like what I've got.. But I would be up for a tink! - TC
Have y’all tried the cobra harvester release
Do the hinge 2 from ultra veiw
I have so many releases. I have a box of them that I’ve saved up over the years however I just can’t get away from Carter.
I’m a big fan of the
2 simple
Wise Choice
And the chocolate addiction
The brass hinge is more bc brass is more expensive and I think harder to cut
“Ain’t no safety on this one. It’s a face puncher.”
What is the drop leg quiver you are using?
the stan sx3 is a beast
Try the TruBall Goat!
No Tru ball?
Dan can you try the sear from tru ball
Do the tru ball abyss x tension flex
If you like the Scott Sigma you should try a B3 Omega Pro.
Should give the carter convertible a go I love mine
You should try a B3 ranger hinge 👍
Man, I need to move away from the wrist - Good good video
