If the kill zone is the important part of the video, it would be nice to have the video centered on that instead of on the gentlemen.

Great video as always. If I had to give some constructive criticism, it would be to keep the frame of the camera more open, as some of the explanations couldn't be seen where Joel was pointing to. But like I said, great informative video.

Hopefully one of this guys vet friends gives him a good lesson on what a “collapsed” lung actually is and how a pneumothorax occurs. The easiest way to explain it is that the lung is a sponge inside a plastic bag, the bag is glued to the sponge, somehow (a puncture or other type of trauma) causes air to get between the bag and the sponge. This is where people get lost. The lung doesn’t “collapse” or “deflate”, the pressure of the air in between the bag and the sponge presses the sponge inward. So it doesn’t matter where on the lung the hole is, it will still result in a pneumothorax.

Not sure why anyone would dislike this, great video Dan! I'd like to really emphasize what Joel said about giving them TIME when you are unsure of the shot or know the shot was back. I'd MUCH rather lose a few pounds of meat to spoil by leaving the animal alone for 8-12 hours, than jump it and very likely not find it at all. Patience is a virtue that has really paid off for me, haven't lost an animal since implementing the "give em extra time" rule! Pay attention to your wind after the shot too, a one lunged bull still uses his senses and will not lay down and rest if he can smell, hear or see you.

Great video, I would add that with gut shots, there are 2 different types. If you shoot one through the pouch,( usually will have a bunch of green stomach matter on your arrow) you have great odds of recovery your animal. If you hit them through the intestines, it can take a day, or even several days for them to die. Hope that helps someone, thanks again for the great video!

Can he explain how exactly a high lung shot won't deflate the lung as well as a low lung shot? Is he saying that because if you hit high in the lungs you are only cutting through bronchioles, which don't "leak air" as quickly as the larger bronchi, causing the lung to stay inflated? I don't know if I buy that.

    I love the advice......
    But I have three questions........
Where did you get that 3D elk target????
    How much does it cost????
And how much does it weigh????
I have back problems and I need to know if I should
leave it in place or can I move it.......
I await for your answer and thank you in advance......

I heard you mention the full metal jacket arrows. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! The aluminum core will hold distortion and then you'll possibly miss a elk of a lifetime.

Good info but terrible camera shot. Why have a 3D target and not show all of it. There's plenty of the frame showing the trees above them but nothing with the legs. If I was lining up a shot to take I would be lining up with where the leg comes up but that is never shown in this video.
