This is EXACTLY what happened to me with my DV case. Now I am onto the child custody and I’m really hoping the judge changes this time. My girls rely on me and I have been their sole caretaker and now my ex thinks he deserves one week on one week off. The time he did have to spend with them, HE NEVER WANTED IT. Hi Rebecca. Ive got to thank you for your many articles. I used your tactics of presenting undeniable facts of the narc's behaviour in court to get an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO in Australia). My neighbour could not deny his actions as we used security video that he didn't realise we had. It was legally recorded.. The judge totally berated him. He called him a liar, a bully, aggressive and juvenile. He said his actions were appalling. It took 12 years but it was worth it. That was a week ago. He is still trying little niggling things, but it really hit him hard.

one of my mistakes (representing by myself). I trusted that Judges were wise and can recognize this type of people. Battling with 2 lawyers from the other party and not knowledge of law. Makes me rethink if courts really care the best interest of the children or who pays more.

Unfortunately until the courts and associated organisations are trained in domestic abuse and narcissistic personality disorder then they will continue to place children and mostly mother's at serious risk from the real abuser. No one is listening.

It's literally the only way we can mute out & invalidate the narcissists lies & manipulation, by presenting the factual documentation & evidence. Police show up, ask me to wait outside. I sat there waiting to talk to them and 30 min later I’m being put in handcuffs and taken to jail. I have three recording of the 911 call I made and you hear me begging them to come quick. You see the body cam footage and you see them only talk to her and never one asking me a thing and I’m the one who called to have her removed. The women are terribly favored and I have proof of this and still got screwed over.
My natc hs spoken too Soon, and now has to try to backpedal. Om sure it is way too late. I am filling a form for sanctions. That way I can continue to put pressure on hom and our great legal system. I thought that he was going to get away from him and his friends stealing everything I own. I was brutally honest to the point of my embarrassment. But the judge believed me and I got just enough leverage to prove what I was saying. Now I am asking for sanctions and will be asking for emotional relief 😊
I will add also to be prepared when narcissist is pretending to be upset or even cry. He is recording you. He has set up recordings prior to even pretend to cry because they know you will go after them because you feel so bad for them even after they gaslighted you all day long?

I’d like to suggest there are often times you DO want to let them lie in court. Because if they DON’T lie in court, the judge will not have the opportunity to catch them lying. My lawyers want me to let my narcassist lie about me because the lies he is telling is irrelevant to my case BUT I am talking with them about why its important that I confront and correct his lies. I've been abused for 20 years and have been lied on and lied about relentlessly. I never had the strength to stand up for myself and now that I do, I cannot allow him to continue tarnishing my name or painting me out to be the the type of person he is. Even though I feel its obvious to the courts he is unstable, I still find it important (for my health and well-being) that I use my voice. I haven't had a voice in so long and now that I've found it, I feel an urgency to set the record straight and hold him accountable for his behavior and his lies. He is a monster and I am scared of him, but I won't let him take me out without standing up for myself first.
It sounds like you HAVE found your voice! Rebecca suggested practicing what we will say with someone, and even a practice run with being examined by the opposition. That could add to the confidence needed to make your voice strong. Blessings and success to you.
Focus on the facts, judges don't care about hurt feelings. Get evidence to prove the lies are lies, there won't actually be evidence for most things they have lied about but there will be for some. Also put together a timeline of events you might find some interesting things pop up as I did.

The only time you will see the judge is to scold both of you for not getting things done in mediation. Please don’t get stuck in this voice crap, it will cost you so much more. Record and save everything. Don't respond to them or you'll be seen as you're trying to entrap them. Don't respond no matter what they say or how horrible the accusations are, record and save everything. If they respond to you with the police, you can hand over everything they've said to you. Also if they send letters make sure you keep the envelope which is date stamped.
It helps me to know that the judge is not there to hold people accountable - they are there to see that the best interest for everyone is met especially a child

Spot on ! Save and copy all emails / text messages. Also keep a detail list of your expenses ( yes its a pain in neck ) including any confirmation numbers detail what bought. I did it for 20years. In the end it was all worth it. She had no defense against who own printed words. I thank God for all the guidance.

May I update you on texts and emails? a female had 10k in text messages on a man's phone. He murdered her son and many texts were indicators that this man wanted her son dead! Dallas TX had a forensic dept. they retrieved the messages from his cell phone after 6ish years. Yes, she was just found guilty of tampering and lying about the texts!😥
My lawyer told me your wife acts just like a narcissist. She said, I'm not saying women can't be narcissists or have narcissistic patterns. But she shows every sign. Then my lawyer told me she has to feel like she has won in order to settle and she will be difficult through the whole process. Asked for discovery got 20% of what we asked for. She has 3 more days before we request subpoenas for her work records. Now the ex is trying to get under my skin..... bad
I just filed for vocational assessment, custody study, psych rescore, b/c spouse is not providing child support, is violating parenting time orders (withholding the children), is withholding information, does not reply to messages in the parenting app, and is not complying with discovery. I sure hope the judge doesn't view it as me weaponizing the court. I can't go to mediation because narcissistic spouse won't produce the information needed to mediate.
I had court for contempt against my ex. She lied in court a lot. I had a ton of evidence and I don’t think the judge even looked at it and my lawyer barely defended me.

He tried to make me feel guilty of insulting his gf back, he even threatened to show the court the prove he had. I repeated what I said to the magistrate and told him I'm not sorry as I was responding to what was being said to me and told the magistrate that he failed as a mam, he had to protect me but instead he gave that woman power to insult me while in my house, told him if that woman would be called to court I'd still repeat what I said. I know he wasn't expecting me to be like that in court, he knew that I'm scared of the court set up. But when I responded with no shame I knew he was really shocked and diasapointed!

long story, but my ex denied me access to our children for 29 days until I went to court, then seeing I was going for custody, she accused me of every abuse under the sun and had me charged with assault... and she said I abused the children too,,, physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, sexual abuse towards her, and it's all in court papers. She created a story and put a date to it, how I was a monster, spanking our baby with no diaper, grabbed her wrists and dug my nails into her... (she submitted a photo, interested in seeing time stamp), but she didn't think it through very clearly, bc she wasn't even home, she told this story to RCMP, CPS, family court papers, criminal court papers, abuse groups in town, reminds me of Depp vs Heard trial, absolute crap,,,, text messages submitted to family court showing she wasn't even home and everything she is claiming doesn't make sense... I am a 52 year old male, no criminal record, lived in 3 other countries, flawless passport, no mental health issues, no addiction, no medicine for anything, 2.5 years of college, 4 children, small business, I am very involved in my children's lives and always have been, though I've had to fight to be with them over hot air, and what happens to the females who create bullshit? In family court, the Master confronted her about the date she claimed I was a monster and her not being home, well, right in court to the Master directly, she said that was a typo, it was 2022, so the time stamp on the photo definitely won't match and 2022? really? so my being the male, I have to follow course, drive to the court house, waste my day and money, and all because of hot air, waiting for court, and I'm self representing bc I've been thrown under the bus by lawyers, the system is corrupt, any suggestions? fyi, I got everything I asked for as for the schedule with the children bc the Master saw through the shit, and even told her, if you want to keep making claims, you need evidence,,, so, any suggestions, it's a mess and she needs to be held accountable, I'm trying to feed my children and develop our property and she costed me a lot of money just travel, missing work, court papers, I'm not a lawyer but I'm a LION for my children.

The only thing that can stop a narc from lying in court is a non-corrupted, unbiased judge that's actually worth being called "your honor"... and proper punishment for fraud upon the court. That's IF the judge is actually ethical under the law, which isn't guaranteed.
31:29 Why are you getting offended when the client that hires you asks you questions? Because any decisions and choices that are made are the client's choice. The lawyer is supposed to explain and talk things out with the client. Not just say "well I have been doing this for 20 years, so I know best." it's condescending. And if you don't know something, you ask. If you are swamped with work them don't take on so much work that you can't handle. Because nobody cares about your feelings if you're hired to do a job, we expect you to do your job.
Oh yes the ex narc just babbled on and on about everything else but the real reason as to why we were in court. The judge finally got tired and told him to be quiet. Now, the narc is in contempt of court and is stalking me. I have my documentation for the hearing, plus am filing for another order of protection again.

So I won full custody of my kids a year ago. The judge labeled my ex as a master manipulator and a terrible human being. My case just closed this week and my ex keeps threatening to take me back to court blah blah. I'm really good at ignoring her but she still continúes to turn my 13 year old autistic daughter against me and says stuff like you can choose who you want to stay with and it causes conflict when it's time for me to pick them up. And It triggers me to get really pissed and my ex taunts me with her phone saying she is recording me. I over react because she just won't stop and continues to mess up a relationship with my kids. So if she did take me back to court and uses the recordings of me over reacting can she get in trouble for manipulative behavior and messing a relationship with my kids? Even though I have over reacted? I accidentally called her a cunt and pos mom. It slipped out of my mouth on accident. It's exactly why I try my best not to ever talk to her because she mentally tortured me over the years so some of that trauma gets triggered when ever she keeps on trying to come up with a twist to use against me.
I know its hard but you can't stoop down to their level, you know? She knows exactly what buttons to push don't let it affect you. The court might box you both up as problematic. You have full custody don't risk it over trying to defend yourself against her. Only the judges opinions matter. Be present for your kids. I also recommend the book "BIFF: tips for coparents your guide to difficult texts, emails, and social media posts"
My suggestion would be to bring a person with you every time you pick up your children from her visitation. It will keep her on her best behavior since you have a witness with you (your Mom or sister would be great) so that she hesitates to act out in front of someone who she might be embarassed to show her true colors in front of.
You don't have to swear on a bible. You can ask the book be substituted for say, an encyclopedia if you are an atheist. The fact that we swear on bibles in court by default is a very cringe tradition.

Hi Rebecca. Ive got to thank you for your many articles. I used your tactics of presenting undeniable facts of the narc's behaviour in court to get an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO in Australia). My neighbour could not deny his actions as we used security video that he didn't realise we had. It was legally recorded.. The judge totally berated him. He called him a liar, a bully, aggressive and juvenile. He said his actions were appalling. It took 12 years but it was worth it. That was a week ago. He is still trying little niggling things, but it really hit him hard.

Unfortunately until the courts and associated organisations are trained in domestic abuse and narcissistic personality disorder then they will continue to place children and mostly mother's at serious risk from the real abuser. No one is listening.

That's all judges can do Is be guided by the evidence & facts. It's literally the only way we can mute out & invalidate the narcissists lies & manipulation, by presenting the factual documentation & evidence. Really good people lose their cases because they don't make the effort to do the homework of gathering data to support your side of the story

Police show up, ask me to wait outside. I sat there waiting to talk to them and 30 min later I’m being put in handcuffs and taken to jail. I have three recording of the 911 call I made and you hear me begging them to come quick. You see the body cam footage and you see them only talk to her and never one asking me a thing and I’m the one who called to have her removed.
The women are terribly favored and I have proof of this and still got screwed over.

My natc hs spoken too Soon, and now has to try to backpedal. Om sure it is way too late. I am filling a form for sanctions. That way I can continue to put pressure on hom and our great legal system. I thought that he was going to get away from him and his friends stealing everything I own. I was brutally honest to the point of my embarrassment. But the judge believed me and I got just enough leverage to prove what I was saying. Now I am asking for sanctions and will be asking for emotional relief 😊
I will add also to be prepared when narcissist is pretending to be upset or even cry. He is recording you. He has set up recordings prior to even pretend to cry because they know you will go after them because you feel so bad for them even after they gaslighted you all day long?

My lawyers want me to let my narcassist lie about me because the lies he is telling is irrelevant to my case BUT I am talking with them about why its important that I confront and correct his lies. I've been abused for 20 years and have been lied on and lied about relentlessly. I never had the strength to stand up for myself and now that I do, I cannot allow him to continue tarnishing my name or painting me out to be the the type of person he is. Even though I feel its obvious to the courts he is unstable, I still find it important (for my health and well-being) that I use my voice. I haven't had a voice in so long and now that I've found it, I feel an urgency to set the record straight and hold him accountable for his behavior and his lies. He is a monster and I am scared of him, but I won't let him take me out without standing up for myself first.
It sounds like you HAVE found your voice! Rebecca suggested practicing what we will say with someone, and even a practice run with being examined by the opposition. That could add to the confidence needed to make your voice strong. Blessings and success to you.
Focus on the facts, judges don't care about hurt feelings. Get evidence to prove the lies are lies, there won't actually be evidence for most things they have lied about but there will be for some. Also put together a timeline of events you might find some interesting things pop up as I did.

Court is not the place for a voice. BIG MISTAKE. No one has there day in court, this is not the movies. The only time you will see the judge is to scold both of you for not getting things done in mediation. Please don’t get stuck in this voice crap, it will cost you so much more. Record and save everything. Don't respond to them or you'll be seen as you're trying to entrap them. Don't respond no matter what they say or how horrible the accusations are, record and save everything. If they respond to you with the police, you can hand over everything they've said to you. Also if they send letters make sure you keep the envelope which is date stamped.
It helps me to know that the judge is not there to hold people accountable - they are there to see that the best interest for everyone is met especially a child

She has blocked all communication with me and all I have been doing is to try and settle this peacefully considering she wont give me back the Cats I found and adopted after 15 years. First she said she would then she turned around and refused. Cut off all forms of communication and called my friends and family to say I was the bad guy and she is the victim. But trying to figure out who is who is the narc is confusing. I have a lot of compassion yet she doesn't....which is one of the signs that she is right?

May I update you on texts and emails? a female had 10k in text messages on a man's phone. He murdered her son and many texts were indicators that this man wanted her son dead! Dallas TX had a forensic dept. they retrieved the messages from his cell phone after 6ish years. Yes, she was just found guilty of tampering and lying about the texts!😥
My lawyer told me your wife acts just like a narcissist.
She said, I'm not saying women can't be narcissists or have narcissistic patterns. But she shows every sign.
Then my lawyer told me she has to feel like she has won in order to settle and she will be difficult through the whole process.
Asked for discovery got 20% of what we asked for.
She has 3 more days before we request subpoenas for her work records.
Now the ex is trying to get under my skin..... bad
I just filed for vocational assessment, custody study, psych rescore, b/c spouse is not providing child support, is violating parenting time orders (withholding the children), is withholding information, does not reply to messages in the parenting app, and is not complying with discovery. I sure hope the judge doesn't view it as me weaponizing the court. I can't go to mediation because narcissistic spouse won't produce the information needed to mediate.

I had court for contempt against my ex. She lied in court a lot. I had a ton of evidence and I don’t think the judge even looked at it and my lawyer barely defended me.

Sorry to hear that your lawyer & the judge weren't stern enough showing your ex that there are serious consequences for her conduct & then feigning innocence . The problem is that she'll take their leniency towards her as a win to ramp up her conniving dishonesty even further.
@@carpathianken yeah I get her on weekends and that’s exactly what she did it’s all about money with lawyers and judges they all work together there’s no way the judge honestly thought my ex did it by mistake and I had a shit ton of evidence and I don’t even think she asked about it and neither did my lawyer.
He tried to make me feel guilty of insulting his gf back, he even threatened to show the court the prove he had. I repeated what I said to the magistrate and told him I'm not sorry as I was responding to what was being said to me and told the magistrate that he failed as a mam, he had to protect me but instead he gave that woman power to insult me while in my house, told him if that woman would be called to court I'd still repeat what I said. I know he wasn't expecting me to be like that in court, he knew that I'm scared of the court set up. But when I responded with no shame I knew he was really shocked and diasapointed!

What can be done when the judge is.... making false claims ? ... not following the law? ... not following his / her own court order ? .... is ignoring bad actions of one side and infering blame unto the messenger about the bad actions ? ..... is not as allowing you to give a rebuttal to allegations from judge or others ?

long story, but my ex denied me access to our children for 29 days until I went to court, then seeing I was going for custody, she accused me of every abuse under the sun and had me charged with assault... and she said I abused the children too,,, physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, sexual abuse towards her, and it's all in court papers. She created a story and put a date to it, how I was a monster, spanking our baby with no diaper, grabbed her wrists and dug my nails into her... (she submitted a photo, interested in seeing time stamp), but she didn't think it through very clearly, bc she wasn't even home, she told this story to RCMP, CPS, family court papers, criminal court papers, abuse groups in town, reminds me of Depp vs Heard trial, absolute crap,,,, text messages submitted to family court showing she wasn't even home and everything she is claiming doesn't make sense...
I am a 52 year old male, no criminal record, lived in 3 other countries, flawless passport, no mental health issues, no addiction, no medicine for anything, 2.5 years of college, 4 children, small business, I am very involved in my children's lives and always have been, though I've had to fight to be with them over hot air, and what happens to the females who create bullshit?
In family court, the Master confronted her about the date she claimed I was a monster and her not being home, well, right in court to the Master directly, she said that was a typo, it was 2022, so the time stamp on the photo definitely won't match and 2022? really? so my being the male, I have to follow course, drive to the court house, waste my day and money, and all because of hot air, waiting for court, and I'm self representing bc I've been thrown under the bus by lawyers, the system is corrupt, any suggestions?
fyi, I got everything I asked for as for the schedule with the children bc the Master saw through the shit, and even told her, if you want to keep making claims, you need evidence,,, so, any suggestions, it's a mess and she needs to be held accountable, I'm trying to feed my children and develop our property and she costed me a lot of money just travel, missing work, court papers, I'm not a lawyer but I'm a LION for my children.

The only thing that can stop a narc from lying in court is a non-corrupted, unbiased judge that's actually worth being called "your honor"... and proper punishment for fraud upon the court. That's IF the judge is actually ethical under the law, which isn't guaranteed.
31:29 Why are you getting offended when the client that hires you asks you questions? Because any decisions and choices that are made are the client's choice. The lawyer is supposed to explain and talk things out with the client. Not just say "well I have been doing this for 20 years, so I know best." it's condescending. And if you don't know something, you ask. If you are swamped with work them don't take on so much work that you can't handle. Because nobody cares about your feelings if you're hired to do a job, we expect you to do your job.

Oh yes the ex narc just babbled on and on about everything else but the real reason as to why we were in court. The judge finally got tired and told him to be quiet. Now, the narc is in contempt of court and is stalking me. I have my documentation for the hearing, plus am filing for another order of protection again.
We've got to try to stay safe.
Those toxic a-holes do stalk us to snoop & intimidate. My ex boss that I took to small claims court in an attempt to get my final last 2 months wages drives up my street for seemingly no other reason than to stalk & intimidate me since I live in a dead end street.
Started doing this and false allegations stopped! Also every lie, insult and refusal to follow motion has been placed in front of the judge. The narc is now quiet and I finally found peace! 😁 Triangulation has stopped as all are included in every communication, transparency extremely important.

So I won full custody of my kids a year ago. The judge labeled my ex as a master manipulator and a terrible human being. My case just closed this week and my ex keeps threatening to take me back to court blah blah. I'm really good at ignoring her but she still continúes to turn my 13 year old autistic daughter against me and says stuff like you can choose who you want to stay with and it causes conflict when it's time for me to pick them up. And It triggers me to get really pissed and my ex taunts me with her phone saying she is recording me. I over react because she just won't stop and continues to mess up a relationship with my kids. So if she did take me back to court and uses the recordings of me over reacting can she get in trouble for manipulative behavior and messing a relationship with my kids? Even though I have over reacted? I accidentally called her a cunt and pos mom. It slipped out of my mouth on accident. It's exactly why I try my best not to ever talk to her because she mentally tortured me over the years so some of that trauma gets triggered when ever she keeps on trying to come up with a twist to use against me.
I know its hard but you can't stoop down to their level, you know? She knows exactly what buttons to push don't let it affect you. The court might box you both up as problematic. You have full custody don't risk it over trying to defend yourself against her. Only the judges opinions matter. Be present for your kids. I also recommend the book "BIFF: tips for coparents your guide to difficult texts, emails, and social media posts"
My suggestion would be to bring a person with you every time you pick up your children from her visitation. It will keep her on her best behavior since you have a witness with you (your Mom or sister would be great) so that she hesitates to act out in front of someone who she might be embarassed to show her true colors in front of.
Someone on another post suggested to arrange exchanges in front of the local police station. I thought that was a brilliant idea.

You don't have to swear on a bible. You can ask the book be substituted for say, an encyclopedia if you are an atheist. The fact that we swear on bibles in court by default is a very cringe tradition.
