It’s awesome that not only are these amazing race cars being preserved and brought out for the public to see, but the fact they’re raced at events like this is something else. Especially for the younger generations who didn’t get to see them racing back in the days. It’s also a great comparison to the current prototype cars to see how far they’ve come in development and technology.
@@Housesider I hope more people would learn to appreciate the open cockpits of the 90s and the early 2000s as well. Why no love for Riley and Scott mk3c ? Why not.
Love your videos and wish I had the time to watch more of them. At nearly 70 years, I relish my memories of winessing CanAm and Group C in person at several events, as well as Group B rally. Sure, it was extremely dangerous but these classes with virtually no limits showcased innovation and ingenuity like nothing before or since!!
So nice! I wish I'd been paying more attention to prototype racing at this juncture (though - being in the U.S. - I'm not sure there would've been much of a chance to catch Group C here). Question: a few of the cars racing here at least appear to be a slightly-smaller chassis, and less powerful (though that could be about the age of the cars and/or skill of the drivers) - was there a sub-class akin to IMSA's "Camel Lights" cars in FIA?
Imagine owning one of these. Sitting in the cockpit, the smells, the mechanical noises as you rattle the shifter and peddle set, sipping away on your smokey scotch.... F🙃🤪k the neighbours, let's warm it up 😂
These cars really were a different breed. For me, Formula One wasn't the pinnacle of motorsport technology in the 80s, these things were. So many modern engines, supercar engines, are derivetives of these engines that they ran in Group C. V8s, V10s, V12s, Porsche Flat 6s and Rotary Mazdas, both naturally aspirated and forced induction. Group C really was insane and sadly, largely forgotten amongst most people, even some that are into motorsport. In my opinion, I think Group C should garner the same amount of wonder and admiration that Group B rallying gets.
Expensive hobby...I mean these guys don't have factory backing or big sponsers, so...If they crash one of these works of art they will cost a breathtaking amount of money to rebuild. Anyway its great to see and hear them again. I saw the 1989 IMSA GTP race at Topeka, and this reminds me of that weekend.
If they broadcasted these races I'd watch every second of them. I'd love to see some of the LMP2 and classic prototypes mix it up with classic group C as well.
I see that 962 qualified w/ a blistering 2:09x lap time. I was wondering and maybe you would know. Has any group C or historic car ran a faster lap at Spa than Bob Berridge's 2:05x in the c11 way back when? Theres a onboard of it on youtube somewhere.
Only three beauties were missing: the Porsche 956 sponsored by Rothmans, champion at LeMans 1985-86, the Mazda 787B and the Black Sauber Mercedes C8 sponsored by Kouros. Great video thank you!!
Indeed, it is an amzing sounding and looking car. I've made a video about last year. th-cam.com/video/CYiY2IoTpU0/w-d-xo.html And a new video will be coming soon. :)
Spa + Group C = Heaven
For sure, with how hard those cars are to drive in Sim, can't imagine in real life 💀
Truthfully right
Absolutely right !
Group B + Tour de Corse = heaven too :)
Eargasm... 😍
That C11 just sounds perfect 🤌
It’s also driven by a great driver. It’s always at the top of these Group C classic races

This cars like a one 25 years whiskey !!! Old but the best ! Thx the video !!!
Group C - just because it looked right, sounded right and went right!
So in other words u like closed cockpit prototypes.
How about 90s GTP in the US. It was basically the same thing.

amazing footage thank you for covering this event!!!!!!!
I was at the track. That Lola sounds amazing

Yes, there was a "smaller" class in Group C. You had C1 for the fastest cars and C2 for the slower and less powerfull cars. A bit like lmp1 and lmp2.
Thanks!@@Belgian-Motorsport
good good!
the jaguar v12 loud and fast asf. love the c11 too. missed gebhardt c91 and 787b
C11 🙏🏻
There is a small window to enjoy what many have created with hands and sweat--before the electric age takes over
I pity that XJR-8 that got stuck, but i also find it absolutely hilarious that it got beached over such a small sausage kerb.
Those are not that small. And I've seen another car stuck like that on the entry to bus-stop.

Do they still have Group C racing . Question from Australia please
You're looking at it?
For historic events but the championship doesn't exist anymore. The new one is for the Hypercar in the WEC.
Jaguar 🇬🇧
Where would they place among todays hypers and lmps?
Is this streamed live somewhere?
No, not this race. But the race at Le Mans classic was.
Check the Peter auto channel.
@@Belgian-Motorsport Thanks
When does this event take place, please?
Check the Peter Auto website.
It's usually around 15 may. The 2nd or 3rd weekend of may
Too bad there's no MAZDA rotary sound.
missing Toyota gt-one in this race😆
That's not a Group C car, but a GTP / LMP.
Wasn't the XJR10 driven by Zak Brown?
Yes it was.
I will make a video with that car in the future.
Jeez get a tripod or something, the camera work is making feel seasick 😂
That is not always possible to film through those small fotography holes in the fences.
Pity they don't have the Mazda.
LMH is for Boys
LMP1 was for Man
Group C was for Legends
