I hadn't heard of this song until 10 minutes ago. I enjoy a lot of his music and somehow missed this. But I just learned that this video was filmed at the cliffs of Moher. These are the same cliffs used in Princess Bride for the cliffs of insanity and I love that movie.
"And the moon is a sliver of silver Like a shaving that fell on the floor of a Carpenter's shop And every house must have it's builder And I awoke in the house of God Where the windows are mornings and evenings Stretched from the sun Across the sky north to south And on my way to early meeting I heard the rocks crying out I heard the rocks crying out Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise And the wrens have returned and they're nesting In the hollow of that oak where his heart once had been And he lifts up his arms in a blessing for being born again And the streams are all swollen with winter Winter unfrozen and free to run away now And I'm amazed when I remember Who it was that built this house And with the rocks I cry out Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with prais
I yearn for Christan music, such as the Color Green, Hold me Jesus by Rich Mullins We don't have Christan song writers and vocalist that comes close to writing and singing like Rich Mullins. The world misses you Rich Mullins.
Look up some of Andrew Peterson's songs! He was heavily influenced by Mullin's music and has some amazing stuff. Don't You Want To Thank Someone is one of my favorite Andrew Peterson songs
i was born in 1995 2 years later he died. My dad always played him as long as i could remember. As a 5 year old his music touched me with insane emotion. I would burst in to tears, and at 5 you don't feel music the same way. It's beautiful and nostalgic.
I'm right there with you, born in '96 and raised listening to his music. I never had the same emotional experiences you had as a child, but these songs have always been familiar and beautiful. Nowadays, though, I'm slowly starting to realize how masterful, intricate and sincere his songs are! Anyway, it's cool to find out that someone else in my generation listens to this music. :D
And that's what was so great about Rich Mullins, AzureMonk... Mullins wrote, sang, & produced "Jesus Music" WITHOUT it sounding like "Jesus Music" -- Without it being "in-your-face," or "down-your-throat" or "do-this-or-you'll-go-to-hell" -- It was his honest insight into the way he felt things were, and how he felt they should be, while also understanding his own shortcomings. Most all of Mullins' music is like this, in its simplicity, and its sound.......
I’m not a Christian, but so much of the music we listen to today has religious inspiration (Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, everything Bach did) that I can’t just ignore it, and Rich Mullins seems to me to be one of the few CCM composers to really put artistry into his work. I don’t listen to most CCM because it’s just not for me by design, but this stuff is different.
i know where you're coming from. yes - this is inspired - of the highest order - i guess i have to watch myself lest pride gets the best of me at times - but this is just glorious, evocative - the entire album was special.
16 Years you've been gone. But your legacy, your heart for Christ is still touching lives! Miss you brother! Thanks for leaving behind the legacy of worship!
One of my favorite Preachers is Leonard Ravenhill but one of my favorite Christian singer songwriters is Rich Mullins for his ability to touch the emotions and the heart. Rich artistry and depth.
To the below commenter, don't give up the faith. Rich is far more jalive and singing music that is so far more beautiful than anything that we can even comprehend or even lisp with these weak lumps of flesh in our mouths. Jesus Christ is the only thing to hold on and trust on this side of eternity and He died for us all, including you, so that we may share eternity with Him and sing beautiful music. He is our advocate to the Father and pleads for you, if you will only become like the Prodigal Son and come to your senses, that the best that this world can provide is pig slop and your Heavenly Fathet's least of servants have it far better, if not in this life certainly in the next, than all of the kings and rich people of this world. Go to Him. He is certainly standing on the front porch anxiously looking for you to come home.
I love this music video. It's amazing. I remember I would be depressed, I would take the bus 2 hours away from my city and go to the open fields and listen to this song.
Only discovered Rich Mullins a few years ago but this past year have gone through some hard times. Read a book last summer on prayer and the author said when she couldn’t pray she would go out into an open area and count all the shades of green. It was after I read that I came upon this song. It has become my go to song. The God that made all these shades of green and may I add winter wheat can surely handle my problems.
I haven't heard this song in about 10 years and it moved me just as much today as it did the 1st time I've heard it. I love it ...it moves me in ways words just cannot describe. PLEASE listen to this song...when you have 5 minutes without interruptions or distractions. Let the music transform you!!!!! This song brings a calm and well as lifts your spirit to the highest heights. What an amazing man and performer...and an instrument of God! I'm so blessed to have seen him in concert :)
RM was uniquely gifted at conveying the pain of humanity, failure, rejection and pride. I pray that you can hear His Voice of Compassion and Hope in Christ today... Christ calls deep unto deep. I often see myself where you are: issues of failure, the pains of humanity. These were the clothes of Christ and His Compassion for me and you. May the LORD God, the Healer, touch you and me now and forever in the Hope of Salvation, now and forever to His Glory. ~From a Fellow Wanderer, Sojourner.
This is my favorite Rich Mullins song. So much of his music is just phenomenal, but this one is an absolute masterpiece of praise to our Heavenly Lord and savior.
This song makes my spirit soar... I was fortunate to see Rich in concert in Florida on his "Brothers Keeper" tour shortly before he passed. He was a great messenger of God's love to the world, and of the majesty of His creation. He is sorely missed but I am thankful for the music and message he left us.
I'm the least christian or religious person in the world. But his creativity and humbleness... It gets to me, it inspires me. Great music can come from any place.
As I was watching the video, and before I saw your comment, I was thinking almost exactly the same thing: Along with Keith Green, Rich is one of my all-time favorite songwriters. I miss him, but I'm so thankful for his legacy.
The socially woke crowd who think green is a racist capitalist word related to the oppression of black people for money. The color green to them is somehow controversial, since they are clearly insane!
This level of creativity and understanding is missing in the current Christian music industry - if only our modern artists could hear this and learn from it
I agree this is not only my favorite video and song from Rich Mullins but my favorite song and video ever. He was such a blessing to so many people yesterday eas the 16th anniversary of him going home to our Heavenly Father RIP my friend
Loves it. I am not a fan of Christian contemporary music (praise music or whatever it's called) but my friend asked me to listen to this and I love it. I love Prog-Rock and this has prog elements and musical more complexity and depth than most Christian music. God is good. ♥
If this song moves you, God is what he is becoming for you. Take the label off yourself and ask God who he is. He is faithful to reveal himself. You were created because God was alone in an empty universe and he wanted company, specifically you. Mysteries will remain. As one wrote, truly you are a God who hides himself. Godspeed.
Yeah, I'm with you. But when times are tough, I'm basking in Rich. Reminds me that, yes, life will give you throat punches, but keep taking the high road. I don't serve his God, but I strive for the Most High. I came the shit smelling like a rose.
The first time I heard this song I was moved to tears from the first line, I was so moved that the owner of the tape gave it to me. There was a deep sincerity, searching and honesty in him and his musical/poetic gifts enabled him to share and express it and to bring the unreachable within reach. The _"moon is a sliver of silver like a shaving that fell on the floor of a carpenters shop."_ There is much of reality that people crave and yearn for but the barriers to it's realization, the ignorance and deception, such as various religious and statitst beliefs, keep people from the potential wholeness and contentment that is possible. Rich thought for himself far more than the average person and like Keith Green had an honesty and sincerity in his christian delusion that was precious. Few people truly attempt to live a christ like life, and when people like Rich and Keith give away their shoes and music to those in need ... that kind of genuine heart is tangible, is real and it touches people ... touches people more for the honest genuine character as opposed to the christian message which is false at it's heart (JC). Much of what is learned via churches, schooling and society in general is false or shallowly unmeaningful ... but what is learned direct from reality and it's shaping of the mind and character ... that is generally true and substantial. Look and think for yourself ... know the truth directly ... live in it's strength.
Man, that last shot of him walking up the hill coupled with the music & the knowledge of what was in his near future yet having the assurance of eternal realities... haunting and beautiful in a way I clearly can't capture in words.
Looking forward to greeting this amazing poet/musician in Glory...his music has inspired me to reflect on the majesty of God through His beautiful creation and awesome holiness and power.
my favorite song about my favorite place by my favorite and the most brillant songsmith in all modern Christian music... I miss you Rich and I just wish there were more like you, but thanks for leaving us a legacy of music and words to ponder and struggle with!
I used to be a christian, there was so many issues with it for me. This man is a stunning example of humanity he is the farthest from a hypocrite a human can be, and despite not believing in god his words bring tears to my eyes and makes tremble at the sound of such eloquence.
Absolutely love this song, the beautiful and haunting imagery, and poetic worshipful lyric. Always stirs my heart and reminds me of His Magnificence. Thank you brother Rich for enriching our lives while you were here with us.
Well, the last musician to die living on an Indian Reservation might just be Rich Mullins. He was living with the Navajo at the time of his deadly car crash. And the thing is, they accepted him as one of their own. Some people get it. Rich Mullins went to a people group that nobody dared reach, or could reach out to for Christ. Go ye unto all nations meant something to him, so he died in Navajo nation.
my favorite Christian artist and my favorite video of him singing. Love Rich Mullins! Had a chance to tour with LifeSong Choir this summer in Ireland for 10 days. Thought of Rich and this song quite often. God is a mighty king!
Love Rich Mullins. Nations Rage, Screendoor, Awesome God, and my favorite song, Man Like You, Boy Like Me, and yes even Creed. And if course this powerful song.
It's Irish and Celtic in origin. The reason the Celtic hymns are the most beautiful in history is that they were pagans who worshiped nature spirits like Dryads and Faeries. Then when they got saved, they saw inherently the beauty of God's design and were able to worship him for it. That is why traditional indians made the greatest and most beautiful Christians -- they got to read Romans 1 and came to an understanding.
Impossible to watch this video without thinking about the importance of praising God for all that He has done that we take for granted. Makes our daily routines and concerns seem less and less as we look to the more important things.
Excellent video, for a very excellent song - particularly the dramatic, (intentional I suppose), transitions from B+W to Color for emphasis of song's content/meaning. My absolute FAV Rich M song for many years. "I heard the rocks crying out"..."thankful for blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise"...Every line of this so song is so poetic and meaningful - Sounds/looks great too :)
THanks for posting this song. I never heard it until now. Loved the movie "Ragamuffin" and have been going through all his videos since. Wow... the way God used Rich was incredible. I am sorry about the lady who could've brought him happiness with children of his own but God had plans to use Him and apparently her decision helped him go into the path God laid out for him.
+Shirleypix Bowman, I know you don't know me, but my name is Sarah, and I noticed that you said you saw and loved the movie "Ragamuffin" last year when it was on tour. I love Rich's music, too, and I was able to see him in concert many years ago. Songs like "Sometimes By Step" and "Hold Me Jesus" are so powerful to me. I wanted to let you know that David Schultz the director of "Ragamuffin", who is a long-time friend of mine, has recently written another movie called "Brennan" about the life and ministry of Brennan Manning (author of "The Ragamuffin Gospel", Abba's Child", etc., and a big influence on Rich). It is on tour right now around the country and I just saw it on Saturday. I highly recommend it. If you would like to request a screening at your church or in your area, or just want more information, visit www.brennanmanningmovie.com. God bless!
Just ran across this song and the memories came flooding in. Always reminds me of Kansas in the Spring when the winter death is replaced with green everywhere..
Thank you, you are a great person. I'd have to say I haven't encountered many on the internet who are so graceful. If your God exists, you've surely done a service for him.
Thank you Ragamuffins for your tireless work in bringing this music and the videos to TH-cam. It has saved my life this last year. I wanted to quit. I get so homesick sometimes and don't know where for. I think it just might be Heaven! Only now I want it to be Jesus who takes me there and not myself.
I just now read the full info (I watch this video a LOT). How cool is it that you showed this to a class full of mostly non-believers?! Wow. I'm sure they were impressed/awed, I mean, how could you not be? Kudos.
"And the moon is a sliver of silver Like a shaving that fell on the floor of a Carpenter's shop And every house must have it's builder And I awoke in the house of God Where the windows are mornings and evenings Stretched from the sun Across the sky north to south And on my way to early meeting I heard the rocks crying out I heard the rocks crying out Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise And the wrens have returned and they're nesting In the hollow of that oak where his heart once had been And he lifts up his arms in a blessing for being born again And the streams are all swollen with winter Winter unfrozen and free to run away now And I'm amazed when I remember Who it was that built this house And with the rocks I cry out Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise."
I have been listening to Rich Mullins music for decades is this is the first song I heard. I think its great you managed to stun a class of Atheists with it and I hope his legacy lives on for years to come... However, this happens to be one of the craziest music videos I have ever seen, not necessarily bad, just very strange!
After class, my sister came up to me-in front of the entire class, as they were mostly still assembled and quiet-and said loudly, Thatll do, pig, after the movie Babe. It was her way of both congratulating me on my BS achievement and getting back at me for always saying the thatll do, pig quote to her in public. Cant you just feel the love there? :-P
I'm pretty sure I first heard this as a 3 year old in 1993, most likely on ZTV? It was super powerful then and although I'm now something of an agnostic going through the process of looking for a religion I love, this song always brings me back and I think it helps me see through all of the strangeness that clouds Christianity in my mind. Rich Mullins certainly had a gift and how I wish he was still living and making music!
Rich has now been gone 27 years and his songs are still as fresh and real now as they were then.
24 years today and we still miss you Rich.
One of the most well written Christian songs I've ever heard. Priceless.
Wonderful song. I am a farmer and when the soybeans and corn are green in the months of May through August it shows the Lord is allowing them to grow.
I remember this song when I see the fields 😭
I hadn't heard of this song until 10 minutes ago.
I enjoy a lot of his music and somehow missed this.
But I just learned that this video was filmed at the cliffs of Moher. These are the same cliffs used in Princess Bride for the cliffs of insanity and I love that movie.
This guy had some of the deepest music I've ever known
Yeps
"And the moon is a sliver of silver
Like a shaving that fell on the floor of a Carpenter's shop
And every house must have it's builder
And I awoke in the house of God
Where the windows are mornings and evenings
Stretched from the sun
Across the sky north to south
And on my way to early meeting
I heard the rocks crying out
I heard the rocks crying out
Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands
Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise
And the wrens have returned and they're nesting
In the hollow of that oak where his heart once had been
And he lifts up his arms in a blessing for being born again
And the streams are all swollen with winter
Winter unfrozen and free to run away now
And I'm amazed when I remember
Who it was that built this house
And with the rocks I cry out
Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands
Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green
Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands
Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with prais

Back when Contemporary Christian music was creative
David Valencia I think it’s more of a rip off of secular songs, which artist are you talking about particular?
True for the most part. But listen to Andrew Peterson. Others have called him the Rich Mullins of today. I tend to agree
Some years do seem to be richer than others, creatively. You might be surprised, though: have you tried a station like KLOVE?
People are all different, and produce art in different lights. Just enjoy everything for what it is and walk in peace. God bless.
Or most any musical genre was creative. You gotta go off the grid nowadays to hear anything cool and new.
i was born in 1995 2 years later he died. My dad always played him as long as i could remember. As a 5 year old his music touched me with insane emotion. I would burst in to tears, and at 5 you don't feel music the same way. It's beautiful and nostalgic.

well Then Zack, you are truly blessed, because Rich Mullins sung from deep inside his soul. He put to music what what all Christians feel.

That's awesome to hear dk
Listen to some of Simon and garfunkel's music... I think you will get that feeling... It really touches the heart.
Probably one of Rich’s most complex songs to play due to the complex rhythmic changes throughout the entire song
can we get more CCM songs in 9/8 plz?
And that's what was so great about Rich Mullins, AzureMonk... This is my favorite Rich Mullins song. So much of his music is just phenomenal, but this one is an absolute masterpiece of praise to our Heavenly Lord and savior.

Completely agree. Sometimes I would even like to believe in a God, seeing how the belief in a loving God gives so many people security and comfort.

I almost considered letting you know that rich died in the late 90s and then I realized you already knew that XD
That jolted me until the thought of him and so many others waiting for us in Heaven. ❤
As I was watching the video, and before I saw your comment, I was thinking almost exactly the same thing: Along with Keith Green, Rich is one of my all-time favorite songwriters. I miss him, but I'm so thankful for his legacy.

I identify with the life of Rich Mullins so much, I miss him dearly. Had the great honor to see him live around 1995/96.

my favorite Christian artist and my favorite video of him singing. Love Rich Mullins! Had a chance to tour with LifeSong Choir this summer in Ireland for 10 days. Thought of Rich and this song quite often. God is a mighty king!
Love this song too
Love Rich Mullins. Nations Rage, Screendoor, Awesome God, and my favorite song, Man Like You, Boy Like Me, and yes even Creed. And if course this powerful song.
I'm not that much into "Jesus" music but the passion in his voice, lyrics and music is wonderful.
When that beautiful instrumental part comes on... no other music invokes such joy in me
It's Irish and Celtic in origin.
I haven’t seen this video in what, six years at least?? For some reason it showed up again for me today
I just returned to the Christian music scene. I was lucky to see Rich Mullins live at Skidmore @20 years ago. He still makes me praise God
Impossible to watch this video without thinking about the importance of praising God for all that He has done that we take for granted. Makes our daily routines and concerns seem less and less as we look to the more important things.
I feel this video also elevates the song, I love the flute part and this video with it having colour makes it absolutely beautiful.
This video is sensational!!!!
Beautiful song , wonderful ireland
Excellent video, for a very excellent song - particularly the dramatic,
(intentional I suppose),
transitions from B+W to Color for emphasis of song's content/meaning. My
absolute FAV Rich M song for many years. "I heard the rocks crying
out"..."thankful for blue for the sky and the color green that fills
these fields with praise"...Every line of this so song is so poetic and
meaningful - Sounds/looks great too :)
So true! He was the best at it!! This was spectacular and affected my life.

If dreamworks made a movie about Noah's ark with the same animation the Prince of Egypt this is perfect song at the end credits
This song takes me way back....
This song is so beautiful. I love the simplicity of the message .
These lyrics give me chills. His music is such a gift
He was an amazing musician!
I would choose to listen to this instead of the newest hits they throw all the time.
This is my favorite Rich Mullins song. The imagery of the words just grip me with the presence of God.
Awesome + Amazing! Just like Rich, God and presentation of video for this inspirational song. Thanks for your time/effort to share with us all :)
I play this song for every significant moment in my life.
I feel happy for hearing a song about my favorite color :]
I just now read the full info (I watch this video a LOT). How cool is it that you showed this to a class full of mostly non-believers?! Wow. I'm sure they were impressed/awed, I mean, how could you not be? Kudos.
I love this song!! Its so powerful, all his songs are!
Rich was quite possibly the greatest that this world has ever seen... His music Sri
Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made
Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise."
I thought it was time for a repost of the amazing lyrics
I love it! I think it is my favorite Rich Mullins song as well.
Mary.....This video was taped in Irland he talks about it in his movie "Ragamuffun"
I have been listening to Rich Mullins music for decades is this is the first song I heard. I think its great you managed to stun a class of Atheists with it and I hope his legacy lives on for years to come...
However, this happens to be one of the craziest music videos I have ever seen, not necessarily bad, just very strange!
Leave it to Rich, to so many years layered leave me a phrase that would unwound the years of pain, and let me see again the blades of grass with joy.
We are saved by grace not knowledge.
Stanisluas Katzinski Instead of looking for a religion you live look for the one true religion Christianity.
I can't wait to see Rich in heaven.
20 years ago this beautiful song came out from A Liturgy, Legacy, and a Ragamuffin band. My favorite album by Rich.
Love you Richy you touch me deeply with your authentic walk with Christ. Can't wait to meet you.
When Christ honoring music was prayed through - not for the sake of profit, but to present Him how He is.... to present the Gospel.
Sounds like a Neil Diamond song. Love it for everything! :D
When the hour glass was still: we listened.
Ohhh myyyy..I REPENT 😭😭😭😭
And im amazed that i remember
Who it was that built this house
And with the rocks i cry out....
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Rich Mullins, Michael Card, Keith Green....
