Skoal dip, a bit of weed, Checked vans, Kuwahara KE-1 and being able to do a flat "Table top". These things made you king of my neighbourhood. How times have changed. So bad ass and so innocent all at the same time.
I didn't dare to do drugs in this age....and for many more decades even
The Golden Age!
What a year, what a summer!
Such a very different era and world. If you didn't talk to your friends on the phone, you'd probably find them riding somewhere. And we didn't stress about that, but now everything's at our finger tips. We really appreciated mastering tricks in those days, and not taking things for granted as much. I hadn"tseen R.L and Buff riding together until now, so l'm glad its accessible.
Man, the sport has come so far. Those tricks don't stand the test of time. That video does bring back memories tho. Those days all i cared about was BMX
"The more noise you make the higher my voice is gonna go"
Bobs Curls from back in the day are definitely missed! Thank you for sharing this
this is back when it all started!...classic RADNESS!!....by the 2 pioneers of bmx!!....AWESOME!!....I lived these days...these guys were my IDOLS!!....AWESOME!!..
My team here, Our dad didn't own BMXA mag, but we got down with it :P th-cam.com/video/PJtFQx0Hy44/w-d-xo.html
great stuff! back in 84 I bought my first freestylin mag and these guys were my heros! nowadays the crowds are louder but freestyle has always been the best Sport .....hardest trick in the flat-world.....pedal spin....yeah....right.....thanks for posting!!
Back in the good old days
Saw RL in Texas do a bar ride, blew my mind
great stuff; things have come a long way....
Saw Dizz Hicks and Mike Buff back in the day! Great stuff!
I met them in the early 1980s in Wisconsin I was almost as good as they were I even had a BMX action Jersey JT pants boy they bring back the good days never had a care in the world

Ha Ha I still have the famous Mike Buff
poster on the kickturn ramp doing a one
hander one footer.... Classic:)
Thanks!!!!
Awesome old school freestyle 👍🏼The announcer looked like a guy named Fred Blood ? Anyone from back in the day would remember who he is
I remember when he roller skated skateboard parks before he got into BMX.
@CYCOlogist Yes I remember that as well. Fred was roller skating at Knott's Berry Farm during the BMX nationals. I believe that was in the early to mid 80's ?
@@feellucky2970 Could be. I remember him and his brother Frank would roller skate a pay to play skatepark in Torrance (late 70s don’t remember the name). When Fred crossed over to freestyle BMX there was this whole sort of reinvention of his look and image.
Yeah, looks like Fred
Mike Buff... I had Z-rims awesome bringing me back
I wish I still had my Redline RL-22....Im so mad for getting rid of it.....I want it back!
Awesome grass roots of the sport of freestyle.
My team here, Our dad didn't own BMXA mag, but we got down with it :P th-cam.com/video/PJtFQx0Hy44/w-d-xo.html
R.L. and Bob Haro. Nuff said!!!!
Comedy😅
Awesome
He is really a good dude.back in "1987" he showed up at my track " the plunge" in Bakersfieldo California..gave us tips and signed autographs.. 2 kids ruled that place..jay "jaws" mguire & dameon bernal...I loved aba
its so funny how some of the old ticks change there name over the years
those heavy tuff wheel rims! dear Lord. remember those?
They were not really that heavy for freestylin' But for racin, YES :)
They should make a movie about the roots of bmx, like they did with lords of dog town.
They did. It’s called “ Joe Kid on a Stingray”.
@@rockinrunner67 I call it joe blow on a sting ray. I rode for SE back in 1982, after the tour Scot with SE took back my pk ripper he sponsered me and I toured with riding for Vans as the 1st pioneer freestyle rider, he's a ass hat. My team here. Our dad didn't own BMXA mag, but we got down with it :P th-cam.com/video/PJtFQx0Hy44/w-d-xo.html

Boy! Flatland was a total dumpster-fire back then....but already 1 year later it was crazy
i think the announcer is fred blood....

Man, if these trcks had not been created, the BMX would not be the same.
I was there
@mrchan101 dude i know exactly how you feel. thats why im here to relive those old memorys
This vid is great! The announcer's voice was hilarious! He sounded like a girl. Buff n RL FTW!
"Pat" on the mike.
My pal and me drove a couple of hours from PA down to Rockville MD to see these guys, I think it was the summer of 84. Different announcer though, thank God. The one in this video was really annoying
hahaha it does sound like him. too funny
damn, him did a hand stand on him bike
Yep! Thats Fred Blood, he invented the decade because it took him 10 days to learn. Wow, Im showing my age LOL

HAY WERE ARE THE FOOT PEGS THATS FUNNY NO PEGS.
what ths song at 3? depeche mode?
I think its Yaz from Upstairs at Erics
It's Yazoo. Alison Moyet is the singer :)
I heard RL was an big ego piece of work, and now hes a business owner from what I hear.
Isnt he the son of the legendary Bob Osborn, the once photographer of BMX ACTION?
As good as these guys were and are the progression of the sport makes these tricks look really lame in today’s standards 😂
I was thinking the same thing, though I got out of BMX just before freestyle/trick riding became the emphasis (still have my '81 ProLine II with Bottema forks).
Pretty much goes for any sport.
Super cringe on the microphone
Fred Blood
They where all rice kids of the big 80s so of course their parents have money to invest in their BS poor kids don't have it made that way
Bullshit. My parents never bought me anything. I paid for it all myself by mowing a LOT of grass.
Be much better without the annoying announcer
It sad Scot breithaupt turn into a druggie😢
