    I just wanna emphasize this is in no way meant to be shooting down headcanons. And just because I say a head canon is unlikely doesn’t mean it’s bad, in fact, some of these head cannons are actually better explanations than the actual series gave. this was more of a comparing ideas and ranking them based on how seamlessly they can be incorporated into the series
    I probably should’ve labeled this video “ranking Thomas & Friends theories” rather than headcanon. That’s my fault for a poor choice of words.
    Anyway, thank you all for submitting your ideas. I thought they were all fascinating to read.

    Here's my headcanons
    1: Neil is currently on static display at the crovans gate mining company museum
    2: Luke is a later addition of the kerr Stuart wren class with additional parts such as an inclosed cab however his production had to be shafted to Ireland during WW2 and that is why he seems to have lived in Ireland before coming to Sodor and his construction was finished in 1962 and in 1972 to help at the restoration of the blue mountain quarry Luke was purchased by the skr and still works there in present day
    3: Thomas celebrated his centenary in 2015 by touring the bluebell railway and Brighton works
    4: Duck and Oliver both have their great western and north western number plates on their sides
    5:Donald and Douglas are painted in Caledonian railway blue to commemorate their old railway
    6:Hiro actually served in the Korean war in the 1950s as Japan send two of their D51s and regauged them to standard gauge and in 1955 Sir Charles Topham Hatt purchased him to help Percy with the restoration of the old harbour and he did see a few engines but he thought that they were on loan from other railways and he thought he was the only engine owned by the NWR however Hiro broke down and was put in a siding near Henry's Forrest until he was found by Oliver in 1976 when he was switched onto the wrong line whilst pulling the mail train and Oliver crashed and he found Hiro as a result Sir Stephen Topham Hatt restored Hiro and he now works on the mainline
    7: The Peel Godred electric engines had a rebuild in 1979 to give a more modern image to the North Western railway

    i have a few headcanons 1:that thomas was a experimental tank engine when the gwr changed to standard gauge with ends ands odds of a bunch of locos later sold to the lbscr which used him as a base for the e2s althought with mixed results later sold to the nwr in 1915 in boring lbsc black. 2: when the engines have to get there smokeboxes cleaned out the faces are on bolts and when said bolts are moved out of the way they can be opened up like the engines in america. 3: james is a contractor engine but due to a broken agreement he was sold to toppham who was in need of another freight engine, as for his line of work i would imagine a farming line carrying produce, coal, general goods and the few passengers from the fields and mines to the small villages and the mainline connection, if he was used on there if the agreement wasn't broken james would actually be like edward, he would enjoy shunting and freight work and would serve his line till he gets replaced by a class 20 but with his faithful service he would not be scrapped but sold to a farmer and kept in his barn where he would be painted his iconic red paint and rented out to parties and other events and on christmas he would decorated in festive ornaments and taken to the town square along side the christmas tree, later i think the farmers son would buy james some track so he could roll around and would help out on the branchline when the diesel fails

    Here's a headcanon that is not at ALL in line with the originals lore.
    (Backstory: All engine's liverys are based off of their main jobs. Blue is for mainly passengers. Green is for mainly freight.)
    The engine with red paint and red wheels is James. Just him in his early livery. However, the Fat Controller painted him black for bullying Edward. The other engine's were either locked up in the shed or sent to another part of the line. James however, was painted black because his red paint was what made him cocky. After he was painted black, he threw a hissy fit, he banged trucks and made them cross. And on his next freight train they pushed him off the line. He begged the Fat Controller to keep him and have him anything than black. So thus, he was painted blue with black and white lining. He cane out of the works a new engine. However, James wasn't entirely happy. He wanted to be a big express engine. He idolized Gordon. He constantly showed Gordon respect. Though Gordon wasn't fond of "Little James" he took him in as he knew James could be an asset. And when they went on strike refusing to shunt coaches, and got locked up in the sheds, James finally put his foot down. After they were let out James had finally changed for good. He ditched the "Big Engine" group, but still talked to them. Though he is still hot-headed, fiery, and sometimes rude, he still means well. And secretly, no engine would want him any other way.

    • @bizarre_par
      @bizarre_par 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And why James was illustrated the way he was: He was planned to have black wheels, but they never followed through. And the illustrators never really bothered looking at the engine's, they just kind of look at a few photos, looked at some out of date documents, and went from there. The reason he was always portrayed as rude, cocky and always mean through the whole series was just cause they needed SOMETHING to write about. Because James was kind of funny when he was constantly having his ego bruised and never never winning. How does James feel about it? "I don't care. It was made for kids. Some people call me out in the station for being a horrid engine. And I shrug it off. Because they simply lack information, nothing worth getting into a fight with them and "proving them right". "

    I have a pretty cool headcancanon on Stanley(in my opinion at least)
    My headcannon for Stanley is that he used to be a Wellsworth and Suddery engine and worked alongside the other three engines, he used to see Edward quite often, however, due to an accident, he gained amnesia, and was sent away after the accident, and when he came back, he didn’t recognize anybody, Edward just never told anybody about the accident, because the memory was not pleasant

      Was he the one in the crovans gate fire of 1930

    • @ciarangleeson2880
      @ciarangleeson2880 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speaking of The Crovan’s Gate Fire, I personally think that 98462 and 87546 were responsible for it. Let me elaborate:
      98462 and 87546 were both brought to Sodor on trial, got sent away for their bad behaviour, but kept getting brought back, due to how few engines the NWR had at the time. In 1930, they got sent away, yet again, and were to double-head a goods train to Barrow-in-Furness, while they were at it. There were a few fuel tankers on their train. Meanwhile, Neil was Kirk Ronan Harbour, picking up a shipment of dynamite, gunpowder and other explosives for all the mines on Sodor. He brought his train to Crovan’s Gate, parked his trucks in the works for the other engines to collect later, and then went to help the workmen fix some faulty points outside. Suddenly, 98462 and 87546 came charging into the station, having ignored the warning signal, crossed over the faulty points, were diverted into the works and crashed. Sparks from their funnels and brakes landed all over the explosives, and...
      BOOM!
      The fire started, and the works was evacuated. Then the fire reached the fuel tankers, and...
      BOOM!
      The entire building was engulfed in flames, along with the two engines! When the fire brigade arrived and put out the fire, they were both burned beyond repair, and were sent for scrap. Fortunately, there were no other casualties, due to the aforementioned evacuation, as well as both crews and the guard jumping clear before the crash. Eventually, The Sodor Steamworks would be built to replace Crovan’s Gate Works. So that’s how I think 98462 and 87546 disappeared and The Crovan’s Gate Fire Of 1930 happened. What do you think?

    Some weird headcannon i have:
    So first, the Alsbrough branch opened for service in 1962 instead of 1964 and 11 king class locomotives(7 for regular use, 4 as spares,one of the 7 for regular uses is king james 1st) were bought after withdrawl from service in 1962.duck was given the branchline in 1964 as a spare engine, just like my thomas( i will get to that later).in 1966,the seven king class locomotives weresent to croven's gate for an overhaul, making STH transfer donald and douglas to the arlsbrough branch.this headcannon can be supported by the fact that duck single-handedly handled the arlsbrough branch,which is highly unlikely
    Second is that 7 coffepots ran the Ffarquer branch even after thomas was awarded the branch in 1925.which better explains why for 25 years, thomas was not caught without a sideplate and cow catcher.the coffepots were withdrawn in 1975 and all of them were sold to crovan's gate museam
    Third is that the rolf castle branch(i think that was what it was called) was run by gwr 7801 anthony manor and 7809 childrey manor , wich STH got his hands on after their withdrawl
    Fourth, 3 out of 4 of the king class locomotives that were used as spares in the arlsbrough branch were transferred to the Ffarqher branch in 1975, after an increase in visitors and after daisy left for the expansion of the arlsbrough branch
    Fifth is that the earl of sodor was a fan of steam locomotives and bought gwr king class king henry vi after preservation attepts failed in preserving the loco . in 1978, after the discovery of great waterton,STH bought the locomotive from the earl and transferred him to the great waterton branch.

    3:21 the electric engines on the peel godred line were probably replaced by foreign locomotives or multiple units, if they even were replaced. the class 86 can't run on the peel godred line, due to the original peel godred engines being NER ef-1s, which ran at 1500 volts DC, and most British electric locomotives in service during the 1970s, including the class 86s, ran at 25 KV 50 HZ AC, the only exceptions of which were the BR class 76s and the BR class 506 emus, which were built in the 1950s exclusively for the former woodhead line between Sheffield and Manchester, which closed in 1981.

    Plausible (ish) headcanons
    1. Diesel was never owned on the NWR, but when he was sent back, he found out that BR had written him off and he had no choice but to return to Sodor.
    2. Emily was the last member of the Wellsworth & Suddery Railway to arrive, being Number 4 after Colin, Lily and Adam. But as they were sold off, Emily stayed in a shed near Manchester until Douglas had to return to Scotland for a year during the 70’s* (another head-canon of mine) and the NWR needed more engine’s, so Emily was purchased for help on the Little Western.
    3. Donald and Douglas have a younger brother named Darren. Now why would a steam engine class need 3 add on members? Well because if the 812’s versatility, they were being bought by private companies, so they decided to build more to keep up the workload. Donald and Douglas were completed on the same day while Darren was completed a year later. Darren was rude and arrogant unlike the twins, who were kinder. Darren was bought as an industrial worker at the Vicarstown smelters yard in the 1930’s, where he would have a nasty accident which led to him being scrapped. Also yes, he is the same engine as the ghost engine in “Scaredy Engines.”
    4. James isn’t a class 28. He’s a class 27 built in 1899-1900 as an 0-6-0 until 1907 where he would get prepped for a rebuild into a mogul. Preparations finished in 1911 and in 1912 James was a complete mogul. However, his performance started to fail and in 1925, as Edward was getting old and Henry was ill, James was purchased, and the rest is history.
    5. Emily has quite the odd love life. She started dating Henry until they broke up, when Emily had to confess to Douglas that she liked him, only for him to say that he liked Molly, who was James’ girl. After James ended it with Molly, he asked out Emily and she said yes.

    I have a head cannon;
    Other Thomases:
    Oigawa Railway Thomas
    Strasberg Thomas
    Replica and day out with Thomas
    Are all NOT Thomas, they are replica’s and explain why they look so different, maybe Thomas would have met the replica’s off screen in Big World Big Adventures
    Stanly the old engine:
    Stanly would have came back to work at Great Waterton, but originally worked on the W&S, he needed to be painted red like the others, but he says he doesn’t want to, the others thought he meant red was bad and was rude to him, and never talked until W&S (which was then part of the LMS as it lay in that region) turned back to Sodor as Contract Fraud let them take it back
    Percy’s Basis:
    Percy was a mix between a few engines but mainly based of a Trusion and his original number was 1336
    Vickerstown Tram:
    There is a tramway in the town in Vickerstown from a RWS illustration, there is also on in Killdane, i believe these goes are joined, but isn’t owned by the NWR and is now run by electric trams, in a small book by Christopher Audrey it mentions there is an electric tram way on the Peel Godred so maybe since Killdane and Peel are, quite close they all might be connected
    Replica Steven:
    For Ulfsted Castle because it would fit, they couldn’t get him so they built a replica but the works was burned down, Sir Toppem Hat didn’t want Steven to have an identity crisis, he did find out and had one, he got over it but yeah
    The Shows:
    The RWS and Model series exist inside itself
    Experimental Edward:
    Edward was bombed on the FR railway so he was heavily modified as an experiment to make him better, him and 3 of his class had this new build, they named it the K2.5
    Loaned engines:
    Engines were rented, trialed and loaned during the old days, like Eagle being rented, 98462, 87546, and Allad greedy were on loan and more engines, like a engine who looks like Eagle but has no name, a streamlined engine called Orange arrow and much more
    Dream Magic:
    TAMR (Thomas and the magic railroad) was a dream Thomas had while Sir Toppem hat and Edward was on a tour around the UK, Lady and all the new humans except Mr Conductor were from his dream and Mr conductor actually did help while Toppem and Edward were gone
    Left The Station and New Jobs:
    The station master left the NWR after Thomas ran into his house
    And after Duck crashed into the Barbers, the event went on TV and the barber got embarrassed and got a new job, the Jeremy Hair Dressers from an RWS illustration was the Job the barber then worked at

    Here's an interesting head Canon
    The reason Thomas is short then the average E2 is because the LMS railway was trying to improve the e2s by shortening them Thomas was that test and he was successful when World War II hid and money went into funding the war effort and after World War II the LMS was thinking about modernisation effectively forgetting about the whole E2 plan leaving Thomas is the only E2 to be shortened I just think it's neat ok

    Headcannon: the fat controller… is FAT 😨

  • @PennCentral5700
    @PennCentral5700 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Alright I’m gonna throw my unwanted head cannons into the ring because why not.
    1. Most of the NWR’s locomotives are scrapped.
    It is stated that the NWR has around 80 locomotives in its roster, however the books only talk about a dozen and a half or so. My theory is that the other engines that weren’t featured in the books were scrapped. The original 11 engines plus a handful of others (Boco, Daisy, etc.) were preserved either on Sodor or elsewhere due to their popularity from the RWS book series. The engines that never were featured in the books were never preserved. (This is a purely RWS head canon)
    2. Emily is an excursion engine.
    Emily is a weird engine, as she’s an older design that sort of just shows up out of nowhere. My head canon is that she was purchased by the Fat Controller as an excursion engine. My theory is that Hatt had had some sort of affinity to Sterling Singles or other single axle engines, and wanted one on his railway, despite there being much more capable power available for offer. After purchasing Emily, he used her primarily on enthusiast trips around Sodor, hence why we don’t see her confined to one part of the railway. This would also explain why she has her own coaches and a unique livery.
    3. The NWR’s steam engines are purely enthusiast trains in the modern era.
    It is likely that after BR’s privatization, the NWR was given back its autonomy. As stated previously most of the NWR’s 80 locomotives were scrapped, so it’s likely diesels replaced them due to the financial risks and expenses involved in running an all-steam operation at the NWR’s scale. Most likely one of the original branch lines on Sodor is a heritage railway of some sort that houses the surviving NWR engines either on static display or in operation. I’d also assume that Edward, Toby, Duck or Oliver, and one of the Scottish Twins would be on static display due to either old age or redundancy. Larger engines like Henry and Gordon would most likely be mainline excursion engines. (This is also a primarily RWS head canon)
