The entire A Go Go album which originally contains this song is just about the most funky jazz album ever recorded. So professionel musicians just having a blast. Great video, thanks for uploading! Been looking for Scofield playing songs from that album live for a long time :-)
A Go GO is one of my favorite albums of all time, every friggn song is a gem. Sco is just so unique, and I think MMW are all such a perfect compliment to each other.
Billy Martin is by far one of the most funkiest drummers out there. And so creative. And there's so many drummers out there trying to sound like him. This clip is a wonderful example of that. Love it!
Sco just cruises around, playin' here, playin' there, groovin' with this cat, groovin' with that cat, jamming with dem n' jammin' with doze. What a life....
Met Medeski at Heathrow airport - thoroughly nice chap , happy to chat, easy going and approachable .Great musician without being stuck up - what more can one ask for .
@taste4phree I think it was the liner notes to Uberjam where Scofield mentioned how he hadn't had a drink or gotten high since 'a festival in Europe X years ago' - turns out this was the occasion he was referring to. :)
I wish these guys would play together more - I love to listen to sco and medeski. I met sco after a show he played here, seemed like a down to earth guy. I appreciate his talent more since he is not a prick.
I got to hear them play this live on the tour for A Go Go with Clyde Stubblefield filling in for Billy Martin. Watching this brings back memories of how exciting that show was. This also brought back a memory of one afternoon the summer the album came out when I was driving with my windows down listening to the finale to Boozer at a somewhat unhealthy volume. A women in her 70s pulled up at the traffic light next to me and leaned over and said "Nice jazz!". I don't know where she is now but that comment made my day.
...one of their best performance, and people sitting quiet?!!!?!?!?! man a love jazz too, but besides the labels, when music is good is good and those guys are great... thanks for sharing
Sweet! Thanks for adding this. I've had an audio version of this same take for 4 years, so it was great to actually see it. For the record it is spelled "Chank".
Saw them live last night. They spoke to the audience briefly. Someone called out, "Thanks for the two minutes"! Guess they don't talk much? Great show.Lots of dancing going on.
Thanks for posting! I looked for this band playing this tune a couple years ago on youtube, but all i could find was an Asian guy and band doing a cover (very good cover). I am preparing to record this tune, and need to figure out the drum part. One of if not my most fave-o-rite tune on this album. Thanks again
These two were meant to play together.. It's a match made in heaven as far as music goes! MM&W are amazing and with the Gutiar God Scofield its absolutely the best combo...
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this clip! Insane, super hot playing from all four gentlemen. I saw the tour behind A Go Go, but with Larry Goldings, Bill Stewart, and a bassist who's name I sadly can't recall. It was mind blowing, but it's ultra-cool to hear Sco do this, live, with MMW, the album line-up. This is some high-altitude playing. By the way, I'm probably not the first one here to reveal this, but "Chank" is Jimmy Nolen, James Brown's guitarist. Peace!
I'm on the lookout for videos of hofners being played for anything other than beatles' music. Suffice to say this was a treasure hunt of a video, it's even played fingerstyle like holy damn.
@@possibly8180 That's cool, tho it doesnt sound like a hollowbody much being so small a body, I have tried many hollow and semi hollow basses to try and get a more upright tone, including fretless ones and acoustic bass guitars and stick type uprights w no body but seems nothing can get close enough to a regular fullsize upright. If you know of anything let me know. regular uprights are too hard for me to play, Im a guitarist so need something more like an electric bass scale playability, but going for upright sound
Yea.. this song, and many like it are on that album.. a go go ... it is my favorite 'jazz' album in the last decade... maybe favorite album total in the last decade...
@jrr619901 I was just about to tell my wife how serious this Chank was when I read your comment. Amen, friend. This freaking performance choked me up it was so good.
I love watching videos of bands with this much talent...and especially reading the comments - no one talks shit, cause they can't! these guys rule! HAIL ALL MMSW FANS!
i have seen scofield and ive seen mmw but got id love to see them together.and for the remarks about not bobbing your head or dancing or whatever. i love music and usually dont move much when i watch a performer cause im usually in awe if its a really good performer i just like to watch their hands and try and study them but i enjoy it just as much as anyone else either way great fucking post about time jazz gets some recognition on youtube
this music is really good while you are working...or while you are cooking!!! I cook the best stuff while listening to this man...If i could i would cook for all of ya so you can have a taste ;)
@Wulftube HAHA, great story man.I come from Bucharest and we had the same kind of treatment, esp. in the 90's.Same thing(minus policeman) happened to me at a James Brown concert,he came as special guest at a cultural music festival and blew my mind away(and my feet and voice), while 90% of the audience(mostly middle aged and old farts) stood motionless.I'm astonished how many thumbs up I have for my comment,it seems I'm definetly not the only one with this problem.BTW,Byzantine culture rules.
Love this song. Sco and MMW and are magnificent as usual but Medeskis' robot whirling dervish at the 7:00 mark sends this to another level. How can anyone sit still during this..?
wow this is the first i've heard of these guys with scofield. much better. i think a lot of their music is missing something, that guy fills it in nicely!
I marvel at the instruments: A 1950's Lesley organ,a 60's Hoffner bass and Scofields 81 Ibanez! Those Pearl drums are probably 60's too. *Medeski is dressed like a guy who works on a kids ice cream truck!
Luckily I was at that show. I think it was in 1998 in support of the A Go Go album. Very cool festival. The audience at the North Sea Jazz Festival is a bit reserved from what I remember. I don't think they were ready for the funk that they brough that day. Highly recommend people to check the North Sea Jazz Festival out. Best run festival I have ever been to.
Hard to believe it's coming up to 25 years since this was filmed.
What a different world.
Look at these young guys on stage
I remember turning on a lot of people to A Go-Go. Everyone loved it! 👍
The entire A Go Go album which originally contains this song is just about the most funky jazz album ever recorded. So professionel musicians just having a blast. Great video, thanks for uploading! Been looking for Scofield playing songs from that album live for a long time :-)
It's just so good isn't it?
Luv and Peace.
A Go GO is one of my favorite albums of all time, every friggn song is a gem. Sco is just so unique, and I think MMW are all such a perfect compliment to each other.
It's good I played it a lot over the coarse of a year. But check out Ivan "Boogaloo" Jones then come back and talk to me about funky.
Johns phrasing and timing + the 3 boys never gets old for me.
The bass playing is just absolutely slammin'!!!
Takes me back to some of my favorite years of live music
A hofner bass being used for other genres of music? What a time to be alive.
IM FUCKING BACK AFTER 12 YEARS
What A Groove! John Do More With Medeski Martin & Wood! Peace & Love! WooF!
Billy Martin is by far one of the most funkiest drummers out there. And so creative. And there's so many drummers out there trying to sound like him. This clip is a wonderful example of that. Love it!
What I have always loved about John, is his ability to squeeze fast notes in at the last millisecond, just after a long pastoral jazz line.
yeah he really knows how to round off a phrase
Which John? 😁
Dan Uhl “pastoral jazz line” wtf are u on about mate?
Tyler Thompson he’s on that good shit my son.
Tyler Thompson jazz lines that you play while tending your flocks of sheep in the countryside. How do you not know that?
Sco just cruises around, playin' here, playin' there, groovin' with this cat, groovin' with that cat, jamming with dem n' jammin' with doze. What a life....
Thanks for posting this. I have listened to it for years but have never seen it.
Met Medeski at Heathrow airport - thoroughly
nice chap , happy to chat, easy going

without being stuck up - what more can one ask for .
Incredibly funky. This must be one of the best jazzvids i've seen. No, the best. Period.
Those descending sevenths at the end with Sco's squeaky soloing on top are just... pure magic.
Fantastic tune!!!
You just can't sit still on this one!
Scofield with Medeski Martin & Wood make a great combination!
Thanks so much for posting!
Scho MEANS every note. I'm lovin. Who needs drugs when there's music like this to expand your mind?
thanks a lot volvo40 4 sending these wonderful videos.they are all geniuses.thanks again.cheers...
scofield is one of the all time great guitarists - no doubt
Think my brain just successfully divided by zero, man. Right there at the Peak Of Funk.
Love watching Medeski play. All those guys are groovin' tough. Extremely sweet.
I swear that's Jaco playing the cold sweat line ;) MMW killing it for so long, fkn amazing
great vid and audio, thx for posting
Love Scofields' sandals! Rock ON!
16 years ago? Damn I am feeling old. Loved this off the album
and here I am again today
The amount of fun they must be having over this tune would be incredible
Jeez that is some unbelievable drumming. The symbol work is bonkers
Such utter tastiness! Sco and whole band are great!
What a maestro! Sco's improvisational skills are unmatched; Medeski adds some nice fuel to the jam here as well. Masterful performance.
I am salivating out of my ears 😂
one of the better projects, ever.
I love this song. I wish they did more then the two albums.
@taste4phree I think it was the liner notes to Uberjam where Scofield mentioned how he hadn't had a drink or gotten high since 'a festival in Europe X years ago' - turns out this was the occasion he was referring to. :)
Yes. I would listen if it were 45. Hell, I've seen these guys play a show where they didn't stop for the entire set. Good music never needs to end
I wish these guys would play together more - I love to listen to sco and medeski. I met sco after a show he played here, seemed like a down to earth guy. I appreciate his talent more since he is not a prick.
I do not think that more badass music exists than this
This music twists my insides into funky shapes.

Perfect! With the Cold Sweat bass line that'd be ideal!
This is got to be the best musical performance I've ever seen...
TRUTH
This might go on forever. Very funky.
the bassline and melody towards the end is killer!
...one of their best performance, and people sitting quiet?!!!?!?!?!
man a love jazz too, but besides the labels, when music is good is good and those guys are great...
thanks for sharing
this makes me even more excited to be seeing them live in a month.
Sweet! Thanks for adding this. I've had an audio version of this same take for 4 years, so it was great to actually see it. For the record it is spelled "Chank".
Medeski looks like a younger Jason Statham. "Three songs, 254 notes-*that* was the deal."
Saw them live last night. They spoke to the audience briefly. Someone called out, "Thanks for the two minutes"! Guess they don't talk much? Great show.Lots of dancing going on.

So glad I will see them as well at the Blue Note festival in Gent (Brussels) on Wednesday 11/07/07
Damn, John Scofield has some skills, i really like his style of guitar sound.
His early shit with Miles Davis is wild of course but I feel like he really found his tone with this funky type of shit
These two were meant to play together.. It's a match made in heaven as far as music goes! MM&W are amazing and with the Gutiar God Scofield its absolutely the best combo...
Wow! Hofner Bass! I love the groovy sound of it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this clip! Insane, super hot playing from all four gentlemen. whoa that's some fresh smooth funky stuff here!:)
I've never seen anyone choose a Hofner bass for playing Fusion, but, sounds lovely.
that's cuz it's not quite fusion, they are going for a older jazz funk sound that came before fusion, and the hofner fits right in perfectly for that.
I'm on the lookout for videos of hofners being played for anything other than beatles' music. Suffice to say this was a treasure hunt of a video, it's even played fingerstyle like holy damn.
@@possibly8180 well there's one up of a rogue copy playing autumn leaves jazz
@@RocknJazzer already watched that a number of times, the bass was actually being used for jazz as intended by hofner so that's nice

good shit, this is the kind of jazz/funk I was looking for
I was there and I still remember..:) North Sea Jazz festival would still program some proper jazz and funk .....
@jrr619901 I was just about to tell my wife how serious this Chank was when I read your comment. Amen, friend. This freaking performance choked me up it was so good.
what a well put together song
medeski's solos are amazing
I would give one of my toes for a recording of this show since it was AMAZING!
0:15 the one time Scofield plays a chord that humans will recognize
I saw them yesterday in Budapest. They seriously kicked ass.
Best vid on youtube ever..
I love watching videos of bands with this much talent...and especially reading the comments - no one talks shit, cause they can't! these guys rule! HAIL ALL MMSW FANS!
I couldn't in my life imagine going to a concert and sitting.
JAZZ IS, WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE!
To me this is THE essence of music!
Where Im from we stand up for Great music, even while tunig up - Come on People !!!
Good one! Scofield is a great addition. This one has it all,…Grooves!
David Ettinger they are the addition not him lol ;)~
Even now...all I can do is sit here and nod in a funky fashion....
Under control of the huge monstrous GROOVE in the room!
"jazz you love" lol its right, this is really good. wish I knew other jazz guitarrists like Scofield. wish he would come to Portugal soon too :P
The "Beatle" bass IS funky as hell!

How locked in medeski and scofeild are doing the organ solo is remarkable
