    On the seventh day God created the bass guitar....gave it to Stanley Clarke and it was more than good...God said "he is so amazingly stunning that has blown Jesus off his cloud!!"- Amen

    I listen to School Days over and over again when first released. Stanley does more with four strings than most guitarists can do with six.

      That's the old Alembic tenor bass he used to play back in the day, right? He has done a lot of soundtrack work over the years (makes sense as he is a great musician) but I love it when he rips it on the bass. Being primarily a heavy metal bass player myself I wish more bands would consider multi bass players, or at least multi-track it more in the studio. Great stuff! Jazz influenced players always have the best left hand staccato.

    I only had two suitcases when I arrived in California in 1980, and one of them was full of vinyl - including Schooldays. I played this album to some local stoner kids from Martinez, who were used to listening to things like Journey, Pink Floyd and Rush etc. and they were totally blown away. Headhunters, Black Market, Spectrum and Schooldays - those were (are) my top four fusion recordings.

    I'm a all time fan of Stanley and spent several years trying to copy his material as many of us did in those days . But a funny thing happen in Philly ! I was at a home with many other musicians sitting next to this guy without ever ask his name only find out later i have been sitting next to Stanley ...

    • @Bix12
      @Bix12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Lemme get this straight - you spent years imitating Stanley....yet you didn't even recognize him when you were sitting right next to him?
      Stanley is a rather unique looking fellow...easily recognizable. I know this for a fact...which is why I find your story.......puzzling.
      Maybe his theta waves were discombulated...or he was time traveling (out to lunch) on Xenu.

      Don't you just love those moments. One of my good friends is a world class bass player. One day he told me was feeling his practicing getting a bit stale. So he contacts (his friend) Stanley to show him a few things. You know you're at a different level when you call up Stanley Clarke and he gives you pointers on bass.

    Ya, I got to see Stanley Clarke play solo bass, just himself and an electric bass and a stool to sit on, at a small pub on the campus of UC San Diego, back in the 1990's. They had a local fusion group that opened for him who apparently had no idea who he was, or so it seemed. Anyway, Stanley Clarke played that bass by himself to a crowd of 50-100 people for 2 hours, and then brought the opening group back on stage and played their music with them for another 1/2 hour or so. It was extremely impressive and just demonstrated what a great musician he is.

      @@superchileno Awesome player .. bit too much stick twiddling though, he don't need those tricks

      Missed the trick? Gerry browne ,apart from being a boss drummer, is an entertainer. Isn't that the reason why you forked out your big bucks?

    As journeyman students of the instrument, we hope to pick up tricks from someone like Stanley of course. An astonishing player

    Stanley's hands were made for bass. Wrap his fingers around the neck twice. Amazing. He'll have a four fret stretch with his thumb over the top and it's not even a thing for him. He just does it.

      for real, I'd never seen Stanley Clarke before this video and I noticed that right off the bat. Gotta say as a (pretty mediocre, admittedly) bassist myself I'm extremely jealous.
