@@Paige098 now I believe the cart part in the original was luis. If was luis became the escort part became redundant and he had gun made the game too easy in the original. The Ashley AI scripted to give herb to leon in cart part. The meat bag was luis.
@@chrisjacobs9101 Which fits his character, he's the former umbrella researcher who created Nemesis and joined los iluminados afterwards where he created all the plagas monsters in RE4. Old Luis looked too innocent to do any of that.
My favorite supporting character even in original version. 👍
Some people might not know this, but the line, “you got a smoke?” is actually a secret code for Luis to ask if they were sent by Umbrella. He uses this line when he first meets Leon, and then again when he meets Ada. Ada successfully responds to the code, while Leon does not.

Yep this is true at Luis lab where you remove the parasites there is an email conversation between him and Ada Wong where they use the confirmation code of cigarettes

I thought he was voiced by Juan Antonio Bernal at first. They really sound so alike. Andrés did a great job for sure, loved Luis in this remake.

I really like how he's all "nah bruh, I'm helping because it just makes me feel better" when deep inside, he's atoning for the horrible things he's done.
Indeed such a big loss to the ladies' world, Luis is indeed a memorable character.

Lowkey in the original, Luis did come off as more friendly & willing to help due to his guilt (And police background too rather than a former researcher) so it kinda makes more sense why Leon trusted him by the House Siege. Even after death, you'll find notes that goes into what he was thinking which were neat touches.
What makes it more impactful is that Leon never fully trusted Luis until about half way through the mine where they fought side by side and Luis started to come clean about his past and motive. Just as Leon started to consider Luis a friend, Krauser killed him.
It's a great way to both kill Luis off and introduce Krauser into the story. I know giving a character a development right before they die is cliche but it's much better than the original where Luis was pretty much forgotten shortly after his death and Krauser more or less appeared out of nowhere as Leon's former teammate. That said, Krauser made one hell of an entrance.
I think they should've kept "they'll pay for your death, Luis", this would be perfect if the remake had it, "You won't get away with this, Krauser" can be said by Leon if Krauser killed anyone, but the original RE4 made Leon more respectful towards Luis death by mentioning his name directly, i might be overthinking but hey man, ive been a dumbass a lot of times so who cares now
Love how Leon always questions Luis, but never questions the English speaking pirate who mysteriously appears in random places to sell him black market weapons.
because Luis seems to be helping without any apparent ulterior motive (which is suspicious), the merchant is just making a living (also headcannon lol)

The "pirate" didn't work for Umbrella
Because the Merchant never works for Umbrella, he is just trying to make a living. probably retired now after all the treasures and pesetas he gets from Leon, Ada and the Zealots, Militias who brought Rocket Launchers and Ammunitions.
I like Luis Serra in the remake. They made him help leon go to the mines and ride a cart, fight 2 el gigantes, fight the bugs until he got killed by Krauser. It’s good that he has more screen play that he deserves than just dying without doing anything but help Leon fight off the villagers in the house.
Luis is my favorite even in original version, i wish he could survive longer and helping Leon and Ashley till the end of the game.
Yeah I prefer he didn't die at all, but they still treated his character with respect in the remake. Loved him in the mines.
The only problem I can find about Luis in the remake is them removing his ballistics line

The Don Quixote references were top tier.
And just like "Don Quijote" was living in his own world like a knight, when he was about to die he recovers his sanity as good christian and die in his bed, same with Luis, blinded by his ambition till the last of moments of his life when he redeemed his self and died with dignity.
what’s really crazy is that luis is not just some random character, if you look up on his file says that he created nemesis in europe. him and his team responsible for creating uroboros worm virus that originated from nemesis
Jesus christ, that makes him even more relevant to majority of events that occurred throughout the franchise, makes me appreciate him even more
@@Dukesparrow1999I find it interesting how the remakes are doing such huge retcons to the point that they almost seem like reboots at times, but yeah, in the end this shows that Luis was quite the genius researcher, something that wasn't exploited too much in the original
@@vicentegutierrez5496 I think it's best to see these more modern Remakes as their own things. Hell they've been marketed heavily as reimaginings rather than replacements, so they might as well be their own timeline.

Im glad they gave him more screen time in the remake, his death in the original was so mild because of this little time he got on the screen there

Just realized that the line “Hope you like thrill rides” that Luis says in the mines is echoed by Leon at the end of the game to Ashley.
A wonderful character who manages to bring a more relaxed feeling to this game. I wish he had more screen time....!

@@kevinhanandi Luis Sera own dlc would be a fantastic addition. There are many questions that need answering. How did the los illuminados capture him, why didnt they kill him, did he visit his lab after leon freed him to remove the plaga, Where did he go after the cabin fight etc

Man, they gave Luis so much more screen time and likability in this game.
When he died, I actually teared up a bit, even though OG Luis is still classic in his own right. They kept him alive enough to where I didn’t know when he was gonna go, so it hurt when he did.
Luis was a truly useful npc friend. Saved me a lot of ammo. Gracias amigo 🎉
6:14 Seeing Luis legit concerned for Ashley and wanting to fix his past mistakes honestly made smile somewhat. They did him justice in the remake for sure.
Yes, it is a much better story, and does make his death more impactful.
I really enjoyed Luis just like in the original version, he was more enjoyable and developed that many people can enjoyed him so much!

original one sounded like a Latin American, now that the voice actor is spanish, its sounds accurate, and perfect to me.

Leon had witnessed two proofs that people can change either for better (Luis trying to redeem himself by helping Leon and Ashley) or worse (Krauser who succumbed to darkness thanks to the murder of his men in Operation Javier by the US government).
God I love him so much! He really deserved better T^T was not expecting to come out of this series with a new favorite

Luis has the biggest upgrade in the remake that killing him in one game seems like a wasted potential, they done everything perfectly with his character, and the details with facial expressions when he's dying, both him and Leon has teary eyes.
One thing I'm not sold on is his death, it doesn't feel like he's done with a mere stab when he's the same guy responsible for the regenerators. He said he got a plan after the cabin but they never explained it.
It's more convenient if he got a regen sample in his body that can cure injuries, explains how he managed to walk all the way to save Leon despite his injury. A morally grey scientist like Luis working on regen sample for medical purpose to make money seems more fitting, he must've been testing it on himself for a while which explains the scars on his face and neck, but it must be a slow regen process that puts him on coma while healing.
His survival twist adds more interesting scenarios than his death, because RE story is desperately in need for morally grey characters to spice things up for the main cast, Luis can be a wildcard/jester/anti hero type of character because he's literally the guy who created all the monsters we kill in RE4 and was former researcher of umbrella, killing him in one game seems like wasted potential.
Edit: Making Luis be the ex Umbrella scientist who worked on Nemesis is huge retcon, there are many neat ideas they can do with Luis after they retconned his story:
- A scenario where Jill would try to kill him for creating her 1st nightmare Nemesis, and Leon would stop her.
- Luis can make samples to help the cast gain speed and power like Wesker but temporarily to beat BOWs, and he got the vaccines to help them go back to normal, it'd be cool to see Leon with Wesker's power.
- In RE4R notes Luis was planning to trick Ada to keep the plaga sample for himself to control creatures to beat Saddler, he normalizes creating BOWs if they fight for the good side which is why he even worked on Nemesis, so if he survives he'd totally make Nemesis 2.0 where he can fully control it through the parasite to fight for the good side to help the cast beat BOWs, we get to play as the freaking Nemesis controlled by Luis who would be doing cool stuff with his Red9 next to his giant companion.
- He also said in the remake notes that *"i doesn't want anyone else to get hurt"* and *"I'll have to, for the world's sake"* when talking about obtaining the sample and not giving it to ada or anyone. Suggests his plan was he wanted to apply the experiments on himself (like how he tried the parasite removal machine on himself), seems he was THAT close to turn himself into Nemesis 2.0...so a very potential scenario where Luis just drag himself through successful experiments where he can fully control himself in stable state to help the cast beat BOWs by becoming Nemesis 2.0, and he can regularly transform between human/monster forms through vaccines, because of his previous canon experience in developing parasites/viruses he can do literally anything.
Now that you mentioned it, I noticed that Krauser's knife didn't have any blood on it when he pulled it out of Luis' back. I mean, we've seen Leon's blood when Ashley stabbed him and saw Krauser's blood after Leon stabbed him. So why does Krauser's knife appear squeaky clean after stabbing Luis? Idk if it's a mistake on Capcom's part, but it's interesting.
@@taemtation6879 Also i just checked the Luis lore in RE4make. Luis Umbrella research team was responsible of the creation of Nemesis? This is huge they can't just drop such info without expanding Luis story. His DLC can be a nice link between RE3 and RE4.

I feel like Luis had a more honorable death here. In the OG he literally got his back blown out and tossed like a rag doll. Here he actually got to help Leon get as far as he could and he went out saving Leon from Krauser which is honestly more badass than the original.

@@javo10ful Even Wesker! They all have mercenaries portraits found in the files (+ Leon and Ada have different costume choices, Leon in particular between his Jacket and Mafia costumes, and Ada her remake dress or a different dress altogether.

@@malytheson He did, he changed a lot after the incident on re2 remake, he got forced to join the government after he just got survived from the zombie apocalypse and now he got ptsd from it ( you can watched the opening of the game there is a lil throwback from the previous game anw ) and yes Leon in here was the-cold and take more serious type, but don't worry he still got the one liners and keep up the comedy :)

Maybe the original version of Luis is hotter than the remake Luis, and I think that's fine if people make that a point in the og's favor but I always felt like Luis, for how important and integral he is to the story of RE4 was super underused in the original game. Like he shows up, runs off after the introduction, he helps Leon in the cabin, then walks away. He then shows up in the castle, walks away shortly afterwards and then shows up again and dies, basically
So I appreciated all of the additions to his role in this remake having him help you through the mines section and the greater lore and backstory about him

Top stuff about remake is moulded Luis sera character to its best. It was much emotional and goosebumps where he appears. Also the voice actor gave his best soul of Luis. I feel bad that Separate ways DLC should've included a mini game of Luis with 3-4 chapters where he travels with Leon and Ada. In cabin, mines, double el gigante, mine cart, and with krauser face off.
