    I've watched Luis die several times throughout the years in the original RE4 and barely felt anything, but when I watched him die in the remake, it was honestly so damn sad. His last words really hurt. Wanting affirmation that he had done the right thing for once.

      Hit it on the head right there. Definitely a sad way to go out, especially once you've pieced together his life's history. You could tell throughout every interaction with him that he was carrying a burden of his past, but his personality masked that pain wonderfully. Only then at the end did we find out that he was struggling a lot, and the various files we could pick up along the way did an excellent job of providing context to his character

      Can't say I agree.
      > Luis is better in most aspects, but... politically correct writing makes it feel like they're forcing him to stay between the lines, which doesn't fit his character, IMO.
      > Ashley was pretty much changed into a different character altogether. She's not a bratty college teen anymore spoiled by a rich daddy. No, instead she's just kind, good-hearted, etc... typical modern Hollywood trash writing. She's a female character without a single flaw in her personality. Leon was a complete jackass against her with many of his responses and rather than giving a snarky remark back, she was just confused as said nothing because that would destroy the perfect image they were going for.
      I like the way they tackled Ashley's gameplay better, but quite honestly I think they did her chararacter dirty. She isn't even Ashley anymore. And sure she's less annoying now. But that's also exactly huge part of what made her Ashley.

    • @ShadowRyas348
      @ShadowRyas348 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@thenonexistinghero Honestly, not a great take when including Hollywood and Politically Correct in your reasons. Ignore that stuff and enjoy it for what it is, because I assure you, these are actually characters now. Ones that I'd love to see again. Poor Luis. I like both the original and the remake but the remake feels like less of an extended joke.

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ShadowRyas348 You didn't say anything count counter my argument. Modern Hollywood movie writing is pretty terrible across the board and it's a known fact that the writing in most modern AAA Capcom games is no different in terms of presentation, writing, direction, etc. It's also about as politically correct as it gets. Every single reference to something sexual regarding the women is completely abscent in the remake. Ashley's upskirt, the ballistics joke, etc.
      You cannot assure me that they are actual characters now because you seem to know absolutely nothing about writing proper characters to begin with. Like I said, Luis is held back, though overal he might still be an improvement compared to before. Ashley however is not a character anymore. She's nothing more than a dime-a-dozen cardboard stereotype that has lost every bit of individuality that did make her an actual character. Maybe not a likeable one, but at the very least a real character with her own flaws and not a perfect character that doesn't have a single flaw and can do no wrong. She's about as mary-sue as it gets.

    Another thing I liked in the remake is Ashley's reaction to Leon telling her that Luis didn't make it. It's genuinely a really difficult scene to watch because you can see her just processing everything that happened, and the fact that effects her even without her knowing as much about him as Leon does really shows how much depth as a character Luis had. You're sitting there trying to process this, click next chapter, and it opens to your hand still resting on his chest. You say some final words. stand up, and its right back to it. • @jojo1cool
    @jojo1cool ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Nice analysis. Long post ahead...
    Luis is indeed the highlight of the remake for me, his DLC can be a great link between RE3 & RE4 events, following his long journey from Umbrella days to los iluminados, betraying Saddler, removed the parasite, and going through Ashley's kidnapping, then he met Leon, we get to play as Luis with with ada/leon as our partners, DLC showing things from Luis perspective & hopefully it ends with Luis survival twist.
    Luis with such tragic backstory he can be an important wildcard that improves the story adding more interesting scenarios with Luis as ex Umbrella scientist who can create anything. RE story is desperately in needs for morally gray chars like Luis.
    The way they did his death be way less deadly where other chars survived worse, that his survival twist is so easy to do now, maybe they did to leave it open for his comeback. Especially the devs refers to the recent remakes being its own continuity means an intended distinction between canons. I thought about this idea on Luis survival twist which **doesn't effect his death** moment, I shared this idea with Luis actor and he thought it’s genius and should be canon:
    Luis was canonically described as a genius prodigy biologist and one of the best Umbrella researchers who produced medications for Umbrella before he created Nemesis, later his plaga research resulted creatures like the Regenerators. Seems like he experienced alot of things. It's very convenient if Luis was developing a **cure that helps regenerate after injuries** for medical purposes based on his experience as ex Umbrella scientist, and he was testing it on his body which explains the scars on his left cheek and neck, he just **never tried fatal injuries** because well...it hurts, this twist won't effect his death moment as he was in deep pain losing consciousness thinking he's gonna die not knowing whether the cure will work or not, so he said what he believed will be his last words to Leon, but in reality **he just went into coma while healing**.
    Remember he passed out after the stab and walked ALL the way back to save Leon despite his injury. No logical explanation other than he got some cure he was developing based on his Umbrella medications/viruses/parasites experience.
    They could make a scene where he wakes up like "huh I'm not dead? The regen did work?" Or Ada comes to check his body and realize he's still warm confirming not dead.
    - There are scenarios with Luis like Jill finding out he's involved in the creation of her first nightmare, Nemesis, Jill would probably try to kill him while Leon would stop her.
    - Another cool scenario that Luis can make samples that helps Leon or anyone from the main cast to willingly gain power/speed like Wesker but temporarily, to beat other BOWs or some powerful villain, and Luis would have the vaccine to bring them back to normal. Would be pretty cool to see Leon or other characters have super powers like Wesker.
    - And the concept of dominant plaga infected Luis being able to control creatures for good to help the cast deal with other villains/BOWs. Remember RE4R Luis notes was planning to keep the dominant plaga for himself that it was with him until he died, because his plan was to develop it outside of los illominados cult so he can beat Saddler that's why he contacted Ada to help him get out of there but he was planning to trick ada and keep the plaga. Means **Luis was willing to apply the plaga on himself where he can control plaga creatures**, Luis is like the perfect candidate for such interesting concept and would be such a cool add for the main cast. Even if he lost the plaga with Ada, he can still create another one, he can do literally anything based on his experience in the lore, that's how impactful Luis has become plotwise.
    - The best scenario we can get where Luis creates a **more intimidating bigger version of Nemesis** but this time **he can control it for good** through a parasite just because he felt bad that #1 Nemesis killed many people, so he makes a new one he can control through the plaga, imagine Nemesis 2.0 that fights for the good side against other BOWs/villains to help the main cast. Imagine we get to play as Nemesis itself? **Luis with his majestic Red9 doing cool stuff while controlling Nemesis 2.0 to beat other BOWs**!! The idea is mindblowing and too good to be ignored i wish you make a video to share my idea about his survival twist and the cool scenarios that Luis character would provide storywise, so it can reaches capcom. Luis Serra potential is crazy.
    - And a very cool concept where Luis just turn himself into Nemesis 2.0 through successful experiments where he can fully control himself to help the cast beat BOWs, and he can regularly transform between human/monster forms, because of his previous canon experience in developing parasites/viruses he can do literally anything.
    The interesting thing about Luis is that he makes the problem bigger or more complicated when he's trying to fix it, the type of morally gray character that RE story is desperately in needs to spice things up for the main cast. Like his intentions was all good to find the cure to the plaga that killed his grandpa, little Luis was traumatized watching his only family member die in the flames due to the plaga, so he joined Umbrella to learn more about the parasites concept, helped them create Nemesis and left when he realized their bad intentions, then joined Los iluminados in hope he can create the plaga cure, his research ended up creating El Gigante, Regenerators, U3, Novistadors and Verdugo. He did end up creating the parasite removal machine but at what cost! poor Luis he's misunderstood and flawed, but that's what makes him such a great character.

      Amazing post! I will definitely entertain a video with those thoughts. You make incredibly valid points here that are worth exploring. Having morally gray characters is definitely a good way to go with the franchise and Luis fits that role beautifully. I especially like your idea about Luis creating a Nemesis 2.0 to help rid of BOW's... that would be sick. I think that it is possible that he survived, although I won't get my hopes up on it. I think perhaps we will know a bit more about the fate of the character in Ada's Separate Ways DLC. I look forward to seeing him more in her content and I hope the future has more for the character -- whether he survived Krauser's attack or a prequel following Luis and his time at Umbrella or Los Illuminados. @@funmylife9248 Thanks. I'm not getting my hopes up but I'm finding ideas to bring him back because I think killing him in one game is a mistake, his survival adds more to the story than his death.

    The Remake did such a good job making us care about Luis as a character, because even though I wasn't super fond of him (i never played the original lol) at the time of his death, it truly hurt to watch and it made me so upset when he never got to hear Leon's response to his final words. And the fact that his death truly impacted the characters and their beliefs is such good storytelling, even if it is pretty subtle (for example, Leon asking Ada if she thinks she's changed/if she thinks people are capable of change and Ashley being upset about his death, even though she didn't really know him). ever sense I was little and watched my sister play re4 I really liked Luis's character and was really sad when he died and that he really wasn't in the game much it's self, as I always wanted to know more about him as a person because they gave so little to the players in the original. seeing more of him in the remake and how they changed his death from being impaled by saddler to being stabbed by Krauser and not dieing immediately and having a few extra moments to reveal his true person. a man who wanted to be better and was scared of not being able to fix his wrong doings, his death in the remake hurt more and honestly made me feel sadder and hopeless not being able to save Luis, and Leon can't do anything to help except sit with him in his last moments.

    Late to the party, BUT DAMN BOY!
    You did an excellent job after fleshing out Luis and his story. But I have so many unanswered questions.
    1. The wolf.. it sounds like it already had Las Plagas.. and the fact the bite caused Luis's grandpa to be infected is very interesting. Makes me wonder if Las Plagas has already been active, due to Saddler and him already converting Salazar into his cult.
    2. The Nemesis Project. Luis worked on it while being station in Europe. It doesn't help that Luis is the subject matter on parasites in the Umbrella Team, and then in RE4 remake.
    3. I wonder if the Nemesis parasite was derived from Las Plagas? So many interesting questions left unanswered or only implied..

    • @jojo1cool
      @jojo1cool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Luis grandpa definitely got infected by the wolf, it makes sense that Saddler started his plaga infections on the village with the wolves first so they infect humans faster, to gain followers the easy way. Instead of Saddler bothering to do it himself on each person.
      Based on the notes, the rumors of the infected people killing their kids had already started by the time Luis grandpa got infected, so it was indeed the start of Saddler's plan to infect people through the wolves.
      2,3. Yea I'm wondering too i wish they make Luis DLC to explain more about his involvements.

    • @funmylife9248
      @funmylife9248  ปีที่แล้ว +2
