    Great video! Only thing about Blackmagic false colours is that they're not universal across the industry haha so you have to learn BM's system. But super helpful on set. We use them all the time!

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep! And each system has their own quirks. Why I always preach learning how they say it works in the manual and then experimenting with it! Half the time it's not as accurate as the manual says it is. But false color is so much better then histograms

    I wish there weren't so many shades of grey randomly placed between the colors. I can never tell if the grey I'm seeing is above pink or below it.

    Does the false color sensitivity for tye range change when one changes the iso?

  • @jasonnowwhat5041

    While I’m here…isn’t the absolute peak dynamic range of this camera achieved at 1000 ISO? That’s per Blackmagic, just curious what your findings are and if the noise between 400 and 1000 negates the dynamic range gain. Current Sony shooter, contemplating a switch to the Pro. I enjoy my FX3 but I had a 6k briefly and really love the image I was able to capture with it. Lately I’ve been shooting static shots mostly, not taking advantage of the low light OR autofocus (I use it to grab focus and then toggle it off) benefits so I’m kinda wondering what’s keeping me in this ecosystem (besides dual recording and form factor, particularly it’s small footprint).

    to me...blackmagics image looks better slightly underexposed. The image looks thicker, richer.

    When shooting rec709 on a camera I usually expose with a bright white card and I put the card at around 90-95 IRE. Would you recomend that with this camera?

  • @MagnumDB
    @MagnumDB 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is the false color feature measuring the flat looking exposure when shooting in BRAW? Or is it measuring the exposure through a Rec 2020 (or Rec 709) view? Or can you even change the false color settings to tell it how to measure?

    Thanks so much for the great vid. Lots of great info in there. Off topic, but do you shoot with focus peaking on all the time? I am practicing all the time to nail focus with moving subjects, and my lenses are all converted CanonNFDs, so 100% manual. I assume in time you just know when you have it, just wondering what you do. Thanks!

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate it! And yeah, I always use focus peaking. I have a friend who doesn't and can nail focus 🤷‍♂️ honestly, I'm all about personal preference and what helps you to create the best.

      @@FrameVoyager Thanks! Great to know. If you have time for one more question, I am starting to shoota short film outside. Is the idea to try and film in the same 2-3 hours everyday or is it acceptable to film as close as I can during the day to maximize the shots I can get in and then ISO/color grade to fix the brightness difference in post?

    If false color is on then how do you manually focus?

      No problem at all! Thanks for watching! Usually I don't keep false color on all the time and will turn it off after I've finished exposing and then turn it on occasionally when I want to check the exposure.

    One thing that is not explained in the video is exactly what to do to adjust the exposure in FC to bring the false colors within the appropriate range. In passing, it may have been mentioned possibly, I'm not sure - adjusting the aperture or ND setting? Is that correct? Please explain what to do and how to do it. Thanks!

    Does Fstop play a part in ISO choice?

  • @leebrandt8597
    @leebrandt8597 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I disagree with staying on ISO 400. I much prefer 800 to preserve highlights and drop my ISO to 100 in post. Denoising and downresing to 4k or 2k in post also helps to clean the darks super well

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Everyone has different reasons. What do you shoot for this and what's your process?

    • @leebrandt8597
      @leebrandt8597 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FrameVoyager I mostly capture on ISO 800, but there are some scenarios where I may shoot 400, or 1000. In post, I don't use luts because they reduce dynamic range. I really don't see why someone would shoot raw, then apply a lut. You may as well just shoot in Prores. For grading, I lower my ISO from 800 to 100 in post, then I choose the wide gamut color space and use the HDR wheels. It's just a simpler way of doing it and really gives you ridiculous amount of dynamic range. And I click my highlight recovery. Here's a couple of examples which helped me out:

      @@glennparker8247 WTF are you talking about? 800 preserves highlights way better because it shifts the middle gray towards highlights. Look at the dynamic range chart
