I love this. But also...knowing you're the worst is the first step on the beatitudes, just learned this the other day. Then grieve that you know you're the worst
The thing is, we have everything in faith in Jesus, and so we need to do what he says as a thank you.
I haven't watched this yet... And I'm a new Christian just got baptized... But that's what I've learned. (Not Orthodox, though I DID go through 5 months of attending and catechism! I do love this Church)

I am the same. There were times I wanted to leave Christianity because I was a Protestant. Protestantism especially in Black American church is mostly prosperity gospel. I wasn't prospering and I was falling to despair. I happened to go to an Orthodox parish in Atlanta out of curiosity. After that I was done with Christianity. That was almost 20 years ago. Became Christian because it is the truth, and without God everything is material and nothing matters.
Became Christian because it is the truth, and because it is true, fear of hell is only natural.
Became Christian because it is true, and because it is rewarding; wow, my life has meaning! The Creator of the universe actually cares about me!
Stay Christian because of love. Each day your understanding of God's love and grace He extends us, grows your own love for Him.

From my youth I was the Christian in word. I didn’t have the spiritual foundation or exhortation to live any wiser growing up, and in turn, I have struggled all my life with being the first: a follower driven by fear.
Thanks be to Father God that in my 20’s He has called me upwards, to gradually show me how to be better. I’m slow in understanding, and have only come so far as to learn how to be as a hired-servant (maybe not even that yet). But my prayers and hopes are always that He would make me true, and that in His mercy He would show me and teach me the better: how to have a genuine, obedient relationship with Him out of love and gratitude; all of which is only rightfully His.

In the liturgy, the peace of those who pray is the extension of the peace of Christ. It is not enough to hear that we must live according to the divine will, but we need to be guided step by step, in order to overcome the giants of sin and advance in virtue. Without the communion of love, the world is nothing but sadness. If the world would live in this love, it would know eternal life.

Thank God that He awoke me and led me away from my old life, but I still sometimes stumble back into that. I hope somebody can help me articulate but…
I do fear God, but not a feeling of terror. Rather awe and respect for His majesty, grace, and mercy. I don’t think too hard on of gifts, rewards, or joy because I know in my heart that I do not deserve it at all because of my sins. I know no works of mine can make me good, but I think I am decent as I’m trying to not be like how I used to. Only Jesus Christ can make one right before the Father, and I believe in Him with all that I am, small as it is. I walk away from His fellowship because of sin, but I always run back and throw myself at His mercy, even though I’m deserving of condemnation. Am I just a fraud and/or hypocrite? I imagine myself as a prodigal son, who loves the Father and tries to delight Him and walk in accordance to His ways despite being a screw-up, but I fear being delusional or self-deceiving.

I understand you completely. At indifference about God, pray, read the gospels and all the Bible and seek Him in the world that He has created, much of it is corrupted, but He's in people, in plants, in silence... Seek His face, He is all that is perfect, viewing Him you will fall in love, in His love. If you are alive and He hasn't thrown you into the fire or the void is because He loves you, He reminds you and is in you; He's the sustain of our life, spiritually and physically. Someone in the comments nailed it, He has so much faith in you that you will look at Him that doesn't ends with you in life, sinless or sinner. Attend His commandments and look for virtue; we have this life to suffer a little looking for Him and all eternity to rejoice in Him. He knows what's in your heart, do what he wants and forget your appetites, "ask and it will given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you".
I don't know if I help in any sense, only seek Jesus, read Him, know Him, talk to Him and let Him be your heart.

I am the kind of Christian who knows God is a responsable Father, a Creator of amazing mind blowing miracles.
God is an Almighty Super Power, Our only ever-lasting Resource and Solution.
And I prefer God's Holy Spirit to anything else.
I don't accept anything that would interfer with my Trust and Faith in God. The only book I read are the Holy Scriptures. I don't consume stuff that are not God honouring like TV, movies and other fiction.
I feel fortunate, priviledged and blessed, and under the protecting wings of this Almighty Father I fear nothing.
For me it does not worry me to loose a job because I refuse the jabbing or I don't celebrate the H-lloween d-mons or because I am not willing to do just about anything for money.

There are 3 different types of Christians: the go to church every week types, the Christmas and Easter Christians that make a once or twice a year pilgrimage to church on the big holidays, and the “cultural Christian” who will claim to be Christian if asked but doesn’t go to church at all (not even Christmas and Easter) and is pretty much indistinguishable from a “none” (someone who claims no religious affiliation).

Something crazy about the bad steward canceling the debts: in order to get around the law and commit the sin of usury, rather than ask for interest in cash (usury) they would loan out cash then require more than that cash's worth in goods. So I give you $50 and you give me $60 worth of oil. The reason the master couldn't do anything but smile when the steward canceled the debts is because that cancelation was actually in accordance with the law. He was essentially canceling the "sneaky interest" rate.

I notice that these three types could easily be stages of development in our walk with God rather than static labels.
You start hearing about Hell. It terrifies you and you don't want to go there.
Then you hear about heaven, and it sounds like such a cool place you'd be an idiot for not trying your best to go there. Especially considering that Hell is your only alternative.
And finally, both the carrot and the stick motivate you to learn more about your faith in order to accomplish that.
And through this process you develop a deeper understanding of the kind of God you serve. After a while it becomes less and less about not going to hell, or receiving some inheritance, but appreciating what God did for you and just wanting to do things/not do things just for the sake of pleasing him.
A reciprocation of his love. Where God isn't just some impersonable being to you, but a long-lost Family member that you cherish and the thought of disappointing them is more than you can bear.

Regarding what 1 Corinthians 13 tells about acting for God without love, can we even consider someone who obeys to the Lord without being motivated by the love of God to be a christian ?
It's not that I want to be judgemental, just I had a period in my life in which I followed God's law only because of a deep fear of hell. Now, when I look back to this period I wouldn't say that I was christian back then...
As an orthodox would you say that someone could be saved only by his works, even if he doesn't really loves God?

I agree that these are three "types" of Christians. I would also note that as much as they are types, they are, maybe more importantly, stages of being children. I see all three of these (and there are not only three) as being types and stages of children of earthly fathers, as well as children of our Father in heaven. There are many, many children who do the things they do simply because they do not know their father, whether on earth or in heaven--yet (Is. 5:13, Hosea 4:6). As is so often the case, the ontological points to the greater reality. All creation was made and is made for this purpose--to point to the great reality, which is the glory of God, (Psalm 19), which is especially true of all his children (Acts 17:22-31) who are made in his image. Salvation is all of grace (Heb. 2:9), and it is "for every man". Christ will baptize us "by hell and high water" so to speak, i.e. "with the Holy Ghost" (the baptism of water) and "with fire" (by discipline) (Mt. 3:11) because he loves us (Jn. 3:16). The promise of God is this: "All the ends of the world shall remember and return (shuwb) unto the Lord. All the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the Kingdom is the Lord's, and he is the governor among the nations," Psalm 22:27, 28.

    Blessings Father,
I have been watching your content for awhile. I am greatful for a lot you are doing, but I don't agree with all.
I see a great division in the Orthodox Church not just from archdiocese but especially within the Antioch archdiocese in particular. We can go to a catchuman Antioch church, and a Arabic, Greek, or Russian Orthodox Church and see a giant discrepancy. Some being lukewarm just a cultural thing, and the latter turning churchs into monasteries, which I definitely think is damaging as monestaries and churches both have there place. The effects of these have put in my personal life a wedge with the church. I have struggled tremendously. Especially when it comes to married couples these can be a huge issue, as being on the same page is impossible. Be obedient to our priest with discernment. Not to be mindless sheep I don't believe that's what God wants from us. Over the past 4 years being involved with with each type of church has taken its toll and the new catchuman church revolution has hurt my marriage significantly more. I can't just say everything in the movement is good and praise it all, for as much good it's doing, it's doing as much damage. Priest who think they are on a holy path leaving casualties in there wake...
I'm not a great man or Christian, these priests are definitely more pious and holy than I am undoubtedly, but it doesn't take away from the point being moot.
This was hard to write, I have been to your church once, and actually meet you on a different occasion. I called once to talk to you but as you are busy I was denied. I will continue to watch. Thank you for the content. On many occasions I have been thinking/struggling with a subject and 30min later you have posted a video about exactly that thing... At least 15 times. Trump won AZ and NV with about 52% of the vote in each state but both states voted for abortion rights by 62% to 38 which means even a lot of republicans support keeping abortion legal. Honest question. If things of man disgust God, and we are made in his image, why do we love and desire 'objects' lustfully ? I love vintage cars. I like designing things. I like making art. Where is the line ? I cant imagine living eternally in a Heaven that is boring. What will we have passion for in eternity. Yes, we will love God fully but will that be it ? He didnt design us for just to wash his feet. He made us creative, adventurous, explorers, .... who will we be in the afterlife without 'things' ?

    • @jaanabanana7048
      @jaanabanana7048 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I’m not sure if I’m qualified to answer, but I pray I can offer encouragement. I think corruption is key here… We are made in His image, and our faculties share in that image as well. But what do we do with them?
An example: You said that we love and desire ‘objects’ *lustfully*. Yet every faculty we have, which is of God, must be properly aligned with Him- including our passions, love, and desires. Otherwise, when they are misaligned with their original purpose, they breed sin.
When we hear, “the things of man disgust God,” I think it’s important to remember that mankind does not truly ‘have’ or ‘create’ on of ourselves; what we have is what God has given us, to make out of. This is why what God despises is not the things that are ‘ours,’ or that are of ourselves (even our faculties), but that which is God’s- that He has given us of- to which we have corrupted.
So, when it’s said that the things of man disgust God, I believe it’s because of how entrenched we and this world are in sin. Anything mixed with sin would be abominable to a God who is pure, holy, and loving. And God sees what is lacking.
Finding yourself questioning what kind of heaven we will have? It’s the perfect opportunity to bring it to prayer, believing God will reveal to you what is needed. Because it will be worth it to pray and study scripture, rather than stay discouraged because of lingering vagueness.
I think about 1 Cor 13:9-10… it says we “know in part” and “prophesy in part” only. And continuing in 1 Cor 13:11-12, we are like children who have not yet matured in the Spirit. Children speak as children and understand as children. But as adults, we grow wiser and begin to put away things that we once preferred as children, because they are no longer fitting for us. It may be the same when we take on our new nature. Right now, we see dimly the things of the Spirit, but when God’s kingdom is established and our identities in Christ are perfected, we will surely know just how lacking everything was. We may not even have to wait until then to realize this- because even now, those who grow strong in the Spirit can catch glimpses of what is to come and share in the heavenly knowledge of God, which He is glad to share with those who love Him and fear His holy name.
What we had from the beginning- before the fall- we will have again, but in perfection, not reduction! That’s why I encourage you: have faith, and don’t be wary of losing what we currently have in this world.

I am only here because i don't know where else to go. I don't know who else to believe in, to give me peace when I'm afraid or to put my faith in when i fail myself. I believe with my whole heart Christ is who he says he is. I believe the Holy Trinity. I believe in the Church Fathers and i believe the testimony.
I am only a catechumen but i feel as though i have been waging the christian war my entire life, even as a child, against Satan and his minions. And it feels though they only laugh at me at ny attenpts to please God only for me to revert back to pleasing myself.
    This is just so hard.
Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me.
