Think about people who see themselves as righteous, they usually are not. Therefore I should not justify myself as a good person, but be humble before others and God. That is what Jesus wants and it’s also what leads to me acting more loving towards other people. If I see myself as better than other people, it leads to lots of toxic and sinful thoughts and behavior.

Sermons like this always make me so grateful for the blessing of Christ. The fact that God knows we cannot measure up and all throughout history have let him down over and over and still through faith in our lord Jesus Christ we are given the chance at salvation. That concept is the source of my joy. The strength in my sorrow. We should all be grateful that we are saved by grace or we would all be found unworthy despite how “holy” we may feel at times.

I am a critical Protestant Christian, and I was fully prepared to disagree, but I found the message to be solid, strong, and Biblical. Good word from the Lord!
Why come prepared to argue, when you have no understanding of what it is you want to argue about? There are many, *countless* even, former Protestants that become Orthodox after giving a thorough and unvarnished examination of Scripture, history, and theology of the Church given to His apostles to teach. Too many Protestant arguments are prepared against imaginary straw man points of contention, or the assumption that Orthodox are “just Roman Catholics.” It’s good you felt it wasn’t needed after listening to the truth.

Thank you for this message. This message along with one of yours that I found yesterday about not torturing ourselves over our sins was just what I needed to hear. I realized that in recent weeks I had started to become harden of heart with all of the cruelty going on in the world. I began to think why am I going out of my way when others are not or in some cases leaving it all to me? This attitude had lead me to take some actions or, in some cases, inactions which I deeply regret.
Stop expecting miracles or signs or material things or perfect clarity as it relates to worldly/daily life. Because most likely you will get none of that. Almost no one does. God/jesus is a path, a way. It is true because it works and it works because it’s true. I used to feel the way you do. I was an atheist. I mocked and laughed at believers. No one converted me, I simply came to understand as part of the crushing pain I carry with me. No modern prescription alleviated my suffering. And I know you’re suffering too. The things you say, the anger roiling underneath. The medicine that religion/god provides is bitter because it is true and does not align with the earthly world (including our personal expectations or understanding of the world). The path is narrow and difficult. But it provides an acceptable worldview which allows for peace and stability in your personal life. Understand that almost all depression is anger. And almost all anger is an inability to accept an unacceptable world. Good luck and Godspeed.
How can I love someone I cannot converse with or know? How can I know someone without meeting this person in any way at all ? How can I know someone I can't contact? How do I love someone who I can't know
I have struggled with this as well. Several things have helped me. Reading the Bible, and praying for the Lord to draw closer to me that I may draw closer to him. If you are able to fast, even for a day, that helps loosens the worldly bonds and lets you be closer to the Holy Spirit.
We Eastern Orthodox need to hear this, above I myself need to hear this and contemplate it. The present conflicts, strife, major schisms and our biggest Patriarchate's acts of condoning war in the name of 'Holy Rus' are disgusting to behold. Blessing weapons who will used to combat another traditional Orthodox land is a disaster. So sad that the Orthodox keep so quiet about what is happening in our own ranks is heartbreaking. We are so wary of admitting our lack of unity. The leader of the largest Orthodox church supports war and yet we can't admit it. Speak out Father, we know that's one of the reasons you made this video. Don't be afraid to admit we have serious issue in Eastern Orthodoxy.
The government and replacement "church" of the land speak of against who the weapons go are schismatics and heretics who even use national symbols instead of crosses in service and burn churches to the ground,are you sure they should be the ones you're supporting? I have a question. We speak the words of praise, but our hands are involved with blood. We are working in evil industries that hurt people. Seeing as that every form of generating income is now tied to hurting somebody in one way or another, how are we able to make a living for ourselves and our families and still please the Lord?

I’m just a little confused, when you mentioned that our prayers to God are worthless when we repeatedly fall into sin, should we not be praying to him for forgiveness? Will he refuse to hear our prayers for mercy and forgiveness? What should we be doing because sinning is unavoidable.
No you keep struggling till God bless you and the struggle stops. The devil want us to fall in despair after we fall in sin and thus separate us from the source of our power and from our hope and salvation. I think he talks about people like me .People who prays coldly and not in repentance spirit and thus do not grow in spirit.
True repentance means stopping the behavior that you have to repent. If you say you’re sorry but keep doing the thing you say you’re sorry for then it’s offensive to God.
Ok so how do we balance this teaching with infinite forgiveness? I am truly sorry about my sins but I still struggle every day should I just quit praying and going to Mass? Clearly quitting isn’t the answer.

If you’re a Christian who is abiding in sin, then what you need to do is pray to the Lord and confess your sin and then repent of it and be cleansed. God will forgive, and your fellowship with him will be restored. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness,” (1 John 1:9). No priest, no rosaries, no sacraments……straight from God’s word and promises. Eastern Orthodoxy falls apart when you read the Bible.

when it comes to shopping coming to you, all prayers are worthless. A call and money might do it instead, point being doing is the right price for making it happen, not praying. Praying is to understand what you must do, cure the sickness in your mind. The process is simple: what you do deposits into your subconscious loop, which comes back to you determining your behavior. In this regard no prayer is worthless, but what you make of it, and even so, words you understand and don't agree with, go past you in your subconscious and come back sometimes through your behavior and "new" ideas. Nothing is really new

God/jesus is a path, a way. It is true because it works and it works because it’s true. I used to feel the way you do. I was an atheist. I mocked and laughed at believers. No one converted me, I simply came to understand as part of the crushing pain I carry with me. No modern prescription alleviated my suffering. And I know you’re suffering too. The things you say, the anger roiling underneath.
The medicine that religion/god provides is bitter because it is true and does not align with the earthly world (including our personal expectations or understanding of the world). The path is narrow and difficult. But it provides an acceptable worldview which allows for peace and stability in your personal life. Understand that almost all depression is anger. And almost all anger is an inability to accept an unacceptable world.

I have struggled with this as well. Several things have helped me. Reading the Bible, and praying for the Lord to draw closer to me that I may draw closer to him.
If you are able to fast, even for a day, that helps loosens the worldly bonds and lets you be closer to the Holy Spirit.
We Eastern Orthodox need to hear this, above I myself need to hear this and contemplate it. The present conflicts, strife, major schisms and our biggest Patriarchate's acts of condoning war in the name of 'Holy Rus' are disgusting to behold. Blessing weapons who will used to combat another traditional Orthodox land is a disaster. So sad that the Orthodox keep so quiet about what is happening in our own ranks is heartbreaking. We are so wary of admitting our lack of unity. The leader of the largest Orthodox church supports war and yet we can't admit it. Speak out Father, we know that's one of the reasons you made this video. Don't be afraid to admit we have serious issue in Eastern Orthodoxy.

I have a question. We speak the words of praise, but our hands are involved with blood. We are working in evil industries that hurt people. Seeing as that every form of generating income is now tied to hurting somebody in one way or another, how are we able to make a living for ourselves and our families and still please the Lord?

I’m just a little confused, when you mentioned that our prayers to God are worthless when we repeatedly fall into sin, should we not be praying to him for forgiveness? Will he refuse to hear our prayers for mercy and forgiveness? What should we be doing because sinning is unavoidable.
No you keep struggling till God bless you and the struggle stops. The devil want us to fall in despair after we fall in sin and thus separate us from the source of our power and from our hope and salvation. I think he talks about people like me .People who prays coldly and not in repentance spirit and thus do not grow in spirit.

True repentance means stopping the behavior that you have to repent. If you say you’re sorry but keep doing the thing you say you’re sorry for then it’s offensive to God.

If you’re a Christian who is abiding in sin, then what you need to do is pray to the Lord and confess your sin and then repent of it and be cleansed. God will forgive, and your fellowship with him will be restored.

when it comes to shopping coming to you, all prayers are worthless. A call and money might do it instead, point being doing is the right price for making it happen, not praying. Praying is to understand what you must do, cure the sickness in your mind. The process is simple: what you do deposits into your subconscious loop, which comes back to you determining your behavior. In this regard no prayer is worthless, but what you make of it, and even so, words you understand and don't agree with, go past you in your subconscious and come back sometimes through your behavior and "new" ideas. Nothing is really new
