    Been awhile but I'm back into modding gameboys again so time to binge Mahko. Prolly build that silver slate I've had put away for awhile. Me and my friends really enjoy them. Thank you and everyone that helped Mahko!

    I’ve been waiting for a laminated DMG kit for ages; I assumed FunnyPlaying were going to release one at one point, but it sounds unlikely now. The DMG is the most comfortable of the original GB consoles to hold and play on.

    Do you have any experience with optically clear adhesives? Thought it might be interesting to try gluing up a backlit OEM DMG LCD and could be interesting to try a DIY laminated DMG display down the track.

    Not sure if you or anyone else will read this comment since it's an old video but what dmg kit would you say handles games like zas the best? I do enjoy playing vertical shumps, so it would help me a bit. Thanks to anyone that replies in advance.

      I read all comments. I don't reply to all of them but I do read them. I have a wiki specifically for answering questions like this. You probably want something with FRM or frame blending.

    I have an issue. The screen turns on and works when it’s not in the shell, but when it’s inside the shell it doesn’t work.

      you've got a bad connection somewhere. Sounds obvious, but you'll just need to check each thing you've done yourself then move to the stuff you didn't alter.

    Hey personal question, how come you aren’t in the gb discord? No judgment, just curious since it seems like a pretty ideal place for many ppl

    • @makho
      @makho  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      You're right, it is personal. I do not mind sharing though as long as you don't mind a wall of text.
      I'm still in quite a few tangential servers, including (but not limited to): mechanical keyboards, portablizing, FPGA gaming, dedicated emulator device gaming, and so on, but I left the GB subreddit discord server and a few other similar servers for a multitude of reasons. I'll walk through my mindset.
      The biggest factor is that I do not get along with a small subset of users that frequent this and other servers. I will take issue with something they say because of a factual inaccuracy, bad advice or bad practice, or just perceived attitude or other implication (regardless of whether they were inferring something or not) and I'll pick a fight. I would escalate scenarios that call for de-escalation. If they give me any attitude, I'll give it right back. All this over stuff that doesn't really matter. Eventually, it got to the point where I learned to just close the server and do something else when these people were active so that I could try and avoid getting frustrated by something they *might* say. I certainly didn't want to participate in conversation *with* them, you know?
      Quick tangent: If you're thinking I should just block people -- that doesn't work for me with how discord implements blocks. The "x Blocked Messages" thing stood out to me more than just comments as they would be normally so I would regularly click to read anyway. I tend to leave notifications on so I can partake in conversations if something interesting is happening and discord also still sends unread message notifications even if it's from a blocked user.
      Anyway, after this happened one too many times, I took it upon myself to do some internal reflection and I determined that I was the common denominator in all of these scenarios that I feel were stressing me out so I decided to remove myself. I like to think I'm happier now and they're not unhappy so far as I can tell so I guess it was a win-win. I do feel as though I'm missing out a little but overall I do feel better so I guess I don't regret it.
      Another factor, and this has happened very frequently, is the inundation of support requests (which I guess is totally my fault). Obviously I like talking about Game Boys. I have a youtube channel with nearly 500 separate uploads most just talking about Game Boys. I have hundreds of thousands of hours logged talking about Game Boys (I checked, my channel has 345K hours in watch time as of today) so I've obviously put a lot of effort into this. Well, that much effort also requires down time. I'm not Game Boys 24/7, you know? It can be frustrating when I'm chatting with someone about something and someone else will see that I'm active and decide to put their problem/project in my face and ask me for help, often by butting into the active conversation. This happened in both text chat and voice chats and is especially frustrating in the latter. I'll feel obligated to help because not only do I know what they want most of the time, I'll know that I'm one of the few people active that can help with that and that if I don't help them, they're not getting an answer today. But I also don't want to encourage that kind of behavior with a reward. I also deal with a form of customer support in my day job and that's not something I want to do in my off hours too (and for free no less).
      Another tangent: Please don't read that last sentence and misunderstand. Please also don't take it out of context. I don't mind helping people, I just prefer to do it on my terms. The GB subreddit discord has a troubleshooting forum and I like that I can just pop in to any thread and help where I can. TH-cam has comments (which by the way guys, go to discord for help, it's so much easier for everyone involved and realistically issues that I'll have insight on that no one else there seems to make it back to me anyway)
      So yeah, it's a me problem. Nothing wrong with the server. I've recognized patterns of poor behavior and I've set about correcting them but the damage has already been done. I don't think I've burned any bridges down but I've definitely raked the coals.

      @@makho all of that is very understandable, I’m glad you were able to make a choice that was better for your sake. Also seeing all the comments asking for help now that I look, goodness you do do much more than anybody would expect. I know somebody in a retro handheld discord who does the same. Just constant pings and begging for their help and they are pretty much always there to help, just because they can. They have expressed their frustrations with that as well so I think this can be fairly common when you get to a more experienced level and have knowledge to share and people to listen, but there end up being a lot of negatives that can come with that sadly.
      Tldr, thanks for what you do and whatever makes you happy is pretty heckin cool 😎.

    Hello, I have a problem, I bought such a set at a Chinese store and installed both the cover and the IPS board and found that when using dpad when moving to the right, it goes down at the same time, please do not know where the error is, I also tried the old cover.

    • @makho
      @makho  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well does it work properly when you install the original parts? Ideally checking the console for functionality before modifying it is gonna lead to the best results. If so, then contact the seller.

    • @viktortrava4236
      @viktortrava4236 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I changed the original parts and everything still worked, I put the console back to its original state with the old board and everything works fine, so the problem will be on the board from Asia, which is similar to the one you present. I would take it from you, but I will pay customs services for a third of the price that's a lot, otherwise thank you for the videos, I like to watch them .

    • @thebestSteven
      @thebestSteven 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's not actually an IPS. I've been watching tons of videos because I'm trying to mod several different gameboys and am trying to understand what each mod requires and which ones I can combine (I wanted a no case modification IPS screen that I can combine with a usb-c battery mod), and despite clearly being educated about the technical details happening they seem to get basic stuff wrong. Apparently IPS were just later TFT screen, but this one on the page is labeled TFT, not IPS. These required less modding to the case, but they aren't as good.
