The usb c to usb c cable is intentional so you can use it for the dock. Usb-a doesn’t have enough pins to output videos etc. Thought you knew about electronics...
the PSP and PS VIta can. No sound, but you can use an audio cable to the audio jack to capture sound. So if a PSP (which uses mini-usb to usb-a btw) can do it, why cant the analogue pocket? I'm pretty people will figure that one out once they jailbreak it.
@@Saber_Nico Can what? Both PSP and Vita don't use usb-c, their connectors are proprietory and has loads of pins. It's the limitation of usb-a in having 5 pins only, no one can figure it out.
@@user-yk1cw8im4h my point is that you can stream video through their usb cables that are now considered outdated. you'd think the analogue can do a better job with a usb-c to usb-a. (also like i said, PSP uses mini-usb and the slim vita uses micro-usb, only the oled vita uses a proprietory cable)
You didn't comment at all on the controls themselves.... I've heard some reports of ppl having issues with the D-Pad registering diagonal presses when simply pressing a flat direction. That reminds me of the issues I've had with various 8BitDo pads over the years as many of their pads exhibit the same problem, & it's maddening to be honest. I hate it. I truly hope mine doesn't have that issue.
I definitely agree that they should have went with the original Game Boy Advance form factor. The shoulder buttons look so cramped. Also, I wish the cartridge slot was as deep as the Game Boy Advance. I've seen multiple reviewers complain about the cartridge not being secure and their game freezing from the slightest bump to the Analogue Pocket.
I don't own any games for this hardware but for some reason I want this system...I'd like to play classic Zelda games and tons of other games I missed out on.
@@RAHelllord I plan to take my Analogue Pocket everywere because it loads so quickly and has very good battery life. Being built so robust, I don't see it getting damaged. But I'd also recommend to dump the roms off your expensive cartridges and put them on an Everdrive.
You dont use cases for your cartridges? I imagine if it did have a closed back, there would be some potential to scuff the label inserting and removing the cart. Also, the loose fit on the pins is likely to reduce wear on the contact points. I think all this criticism for the cart slot is misguided.
@@RAHelllord But the whole point of sleep mode is so you can sit it down and come back to it while the cartridge is still in it. Its bad design. All they had to do was raise the plastic up so you dont scratch your labels if you sit them down
I like the idea but the lack of grip on the cartridge is a bit of a non-start for me, especially since you cant remap the shoulder to the upper face buttons to further avoid bumping the carts. I'll definitely keep an eye out for an "advanced" design/version in the future though, esp if that cartridge issue gets addressed.
Thanks for being honest, I wanted this system, but I also want something that is premium for gba playing. I guess I’ll wait around for a couple more years
My two biggest complaints are a little more plastic on the back to help hold the cartridge and I think they should have went with landscape OG GBA style but yea a grip for it would be nice too.
I just ordered mine today. I’m hoping the loose cartridge slot is something that they can tweak with future production runs. Especially considering I won’t get mine until 2023. I bought the dock and plan to use it mostly as a replacement Game Boy Player.
I think Analogue Pocket nailed the shape of it, and I am so glad its not just another horizontal GBA clone, the GBC, DMG and Pocket never get the same love, and the fact that GBC and GB carts stick half way out of GBA's bothers me. The clear case is really a nice feature they added because most GB collectors keep their Games and GB's inside those exact plastic cases so would easily fit in their collection of GB (since this is who the niche of the console is)
I’ll pass on it. One of the three GBA titles I own is PMD Red Rescue Team. All PMD titles are very reliant on shoulder buttons for attacks. The poor form factor when pressing them and other buttons is a big concern. Anyone who has played any PMD title knows how obnoxious, annoying and time consuming it is or would be to go through menus just to attack every single time a Pokémon approaches. Monster houses and boss fights would be made even worse. The other two are Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Emerald. I don’t own any physical copies of Game Gear, GameBoy and GBC titles. I don’t know what other titles are compatible with it.
Surprised I haven't seen more people mention the back and how cart's fit in there. It looks like if you put it down the wrong way it could knock the cartridge and freeze your game.
I may have judged this device too harshly. It definitely pushes the boundaries as far as quality goes. But at the same time, I can't justify spending $220 on a handheld that is not a nintendo switch lite or PS vita. Emulation on smart phone that came out in the last 3 years with an accessory can easily recreate the handheld desire, and those with a samsung have access to dex for the TV bonus. I would be more interested when they create a device that can handle harder to emulate consoles such as DS, 3DS, PSP and vita. I would only recommend the Analouge Pocket to those who do not have a high-end smart device
I will say having a modded gba in a shell that is designed for the new screens feels much better. I just cant give up the gba form factor now that I have a better screen in it. If they ever release one shaped like a gba I’d be all over it.
Yeah the original GBA form factor was always the best. I traded mine in for an SP when that released, which was better at the time since it had a backlight, but an original GBA with a backlit screen would be the ideal really imo.
I agree with you about the flimsiness of the cartridge slot. Taking everything in consideration i don’t think i would buy it for that price. These days with one of those handheld pcs you can play all of the retro consolle plus Gb Gbc and Gba…why bother spending 220+100 for the dock when you can pay twice as much and have the all retro console+pc gaming on a handheld…eh…tough choice to make!!!
Wonder if the classic 8bitdo D-pad fix of stick-on binder rings around those contacts would help with the wonky diagonals other reviewers have mentioned. Might have to try that with mine whenever it shows up if it ends up being like the older 8bitdo D-pads.
I don't know why people even bother using old dusty cartridges. I got 100000 games on it and don't have to carry extra lumps of plastic around with me lol Best part is, the Amiga emulation games wooo!
It's a really nice machine. For me personally I wish they'd gone for the GBA SP form factor. That would have given you the classic gameboy aesthetic with much easier shoulder button access. My guess is that would have been more expensive again.
literally every other reviewer said that the cartridges fit snugly and securely.... also the GBA fits better on a larger DMG form factor screen than the other way around. Easy to see why they did that.
Makes me want to buy it indeed with all the assessories but it'd gonna cost me a lot lol but since it's coming out on Christmas 2022 I still have time to pre order hopefully
Came here too sat that but you got it covered already. The only mind boggling decision is why they put it at the bottom when in most cases it's used to connect to a different Gameboy from someone else.
This thing really hits home for me, the nostalgia I have for these games is thru the roof! But even beyond that, they feel like completely new games with improved framerates, colors, and sound. I do kind of wish there was a way to utilize the sd card slot for roms and a fast forward feature would also be much appreciated.
The Pocket will not improve frame rates, the fpga will run the game exactly as it ran on the original console, if it ran like shit on the gba it’ll still run like shit on the pocket.
This is not perfect but better than anything on the market. Modding old systems is fun but the extra drain on the battery and lack of modern features (quiet headphone jacks, usb charging and upkeep) make this a pretty great option.
Blu tooth controllers are horrible n laggy on anything I've ever tried that supports them. The built in controls are actually the most important thing for me, but I'd be using this mostly for Sega and Nintendo games
An absolutely phenomenal piece of tech, I'm looking forward to the days when we begin to get DS and 3DS remodels like these.

The usb c to usb c cable is intentional so you can use it for the dock. Usb-a doesn’t have enough pins to output videos etc. Thought you knew about electronics...
He obviously meant as in easier ways to charge it
the PSP and PS VIta can.
My A button doesn't work every time.
Well, I think this is a “must have!” I’ve got one now on pre-order!
Especially since they now come with a built-in DAW!
Can't believe it's been over 5 years since I started tuning in here
Don't matter because can't get one without paying double the price of a switch.
And like you prefer the GBA, I prefer the GBA-SP (screen is protected).
Anything else?
I don't own any games for this hardware but for some reason I want this system...I'd like to play classic Zelda games and tons of other games I missed out on.
This looks beautiful
The fact it doesnt protect the cartridge or the label on the cartridge is crazy to me. Especially with how pricey some gba games have gotten
I mean, the point is to show them off, you're not meant to play the thing where you can damage either the cart or the system.
@@jameshoover492 This literally has never happened to me in decades of using original hardware. This is just a bad design by analog
@@RAHelllord But the whole point of sleep mode is so you can sit it down and come back to it while the cartridge is still in it. Its bad design. All they had to do was raise the plastic up so you dont scratch your labels if you sit them down
What a beautiful surprise!
I bought the dock and plan to use it mostly as a replacement Game Boy Player.
can't wait to enjoy mine when it's available in 2023
I think Analogue Pocket nailed the shape of it, and I am so glad its not just another horizontal GBA clone, the GBC, DMG and Pocket never get the same love, and the fact that GBC and GB carts stick half way out of GBA's bothers me.
The clear case is really a nice feature they added because most GB collectors keep their Games and GB's inside those exact plastic cases so would easily fit in their collection of GB (since this is who the niche of the console is)
Great video. I subscribed.
Holy Sht! You have a nice T-shirt bro!
I was sad when Spawn Wave missed the 1up in the beginning of Mario.
I think the case is an 'hommage' to the transparent case which was available for the Game Boy Pocket, but I could be wrong.
You can set the pocket to let X and Y mirror L and R
How about an SP style because that style would've been something I would have been interested in.
@5:58 Actually it doesn’t work with everdrive. Krikzz is looking into it, but it looks like there is a power issue on the AP.
The plastic case is a hommage to the original gameboy cases
Can’t wait to hear what group I get. Really hoping for group 1 considering I missed the original preorder by 1-2 min lol
I got a response from them saying we should get our preorder groups assigned this week.
I got my notice already.
Got B :/
I ordered a white and black one. I can't wait to get them.
youll get it in 2023
@@omgiTzkitteh I just got that email telling me I’ll get it in 2023. Wtf lol
Surprised I haven't seen more people mention the back and how cart's fit in there. It looks like if you put it down the wrong way it could knock the cartridge and freeze your game.
a design oversight for sure.
Most reviews have
@@mikeuk666 most you’ve seen have, most I’ve seen haven’t.
@@user-yk1cw8im4h I dont think it is. I think its designed to reduce wear on the cartridge.
James Hoover how so?
I may have judged this device too harshly. It definitely pushes the boundaries as far as quality goes. But at the same time, I can't justify spending $220 on a handheld that is not a nintendo switch lite or PS vita. Emulation on smart phone that came out in the last 3 years with an accessory can easily recreate the handheld desire, and those with a samsung have access to dex for the TV bonus.
I would be more interested when they create a device that can handle harder to emulate consoles such as DS, 3DS, PSP and vita.
I would only recommend the Analouge Pocket to those who do not have a high-end smart device
PS VIta OLED model is still cheaper lol
I will say having a modded gba in a shell that is designed for the new screens feels much better. I just cant give up the gba form factor now that I have a better screen in it. If they ever release one shaped like a gba I’d be all over it.
Yeah the original GBA form factor was always the best. I traded mine in for an SP when that released, which was better at the time since it had a backlight, but an original GBA with a backlit screen would be the ideal really imo.
I think they nailed it. Got go with og gameboy layout. Love mine buttons are great
I get the analog is about gaming, but I’m an audio nerd and imagine if they made a Walkman like this or an iPod like design That looks this nice!
I'm not into handheld anymore because I'm old as dirt, but that device looks cool as hell.
It's a thing of beauty.
Wonder if the classic 8bitdo D-pad fix of stick-on binder rings around those contacts would help with the wonky diagonals other reviewers have mentioned. Might have to try that with mine whenever it shows up if it ends up being like the older 8bitdo D-pads.
The loose slot is the big deal-breaker for me. Hopefully Analogue will fix in a 1.5 model
analogue never done revision for their stuff...so no
They won't be doing a revision. They never do revisions. Great waste of $220 USD.
I don't know why people even bother using old dusty cartridges. I got 100000 games on it and don't have to carry extra lumps of plastic around with me lol
Best part is, the Amiga emulation games wooo!
A gba styled one would be awesome
😎 Tech Wave 🌊
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time... Long time
It's a really nice machine. For me personally I wish they'd gone for the GBA SP form factor. That would have given you the classic gameboy aesthetic with much easier shoulder button access. My guess is that would have been more expensive again.
Halo Infinite is effin insane!!!
I'd love one in a Gameboy Advance SP shape
literally every other reviewer said that the cartridges fit snugly and securely.... also the GBA fits better on a larger DMG form factor screen than the other way around. Easy to see why they did that.
Makes me want to buy it indeed with all the assessories but it'd gonna cost me a lot lol but since it's coming out on Christmas 2022 I still have time to pre order hopefully
Just a correction: The 2nd "LED" on the bottom of the device is actually an IR transceiver like the GBC had.
Came here too sat that but you got it covered already. The only mind boggling decision is why they put it at the bottom when in most cases it's used to connect to a different Gameboy from someone else.
I just hear about this and think “that’s cool, I’ll go and order one” - and it says I wouldn’t get it til 2023!!! Guess not 😳
This thing really hits home for me, the nostalgia I have for these games is thru the roof! But even beyond that, they feel like completely new games with improved framerates, colors, and sound. I do kind of wish there was a way to utilize the sd card slot for roms and a fast forward feature would also be much appreciated.
The Pocket will not improve frame rates, the fpga will run the game exactly as it ran on the original console, if it ran like shit on the gba it’ll still run like shit on the pocket.
you can now play gb and gbc ROMs through the sad card
I wanted this so badly
I'm going to consider it if Analogue produces an adapter for Wonder Swan cartridges. Play them on a big screen in docked mode.
I guess this will be my megaman battle network machine pretty soon 😌
This was a great video and I might actually get this
This is not perfect but better than anything on the market. Modding old systems is fun but the extra drain on the battery and lack of modern features (quiet headphone jacks, usb charging and upkeep) make this a pretty great option.
"And the only other thing that comes with it is a cable". Wow, I didnt think this was a modern smartphone.
Blu tooth controllers are horrible n laggy on anything I've ever tried that supports them. The built in controls are actually the most important thing for me, but I'd be using this mostly for Sega and Nintendo games
The screen is the same one used in the Valve Index (2 screens).
