One interesting fun fact that might tickle you, Marco Hietala from Nightwish produced some of their albums (around the Skyforger era) and helped refine Tomi Jotusen's clean vocals for those albums and live performances
They also regularly tour with Amorphis. I think the europe leg next year will be with Amorphis and Turmion Kätilöt. They toured...I think it was 2013..with Amorphis and Arch Enemy as support, which was probably a bit too heavy for the regular Nightwish audience when I remember the reactions ^^ And Marco also helped producing some Delain albums as well, which is a great band by the way ;)
@@brothernemiel6465 Dunno about it being too heavy for the Nightwish crowd. I was at one of the concerts (in Luxembourg, it was 2015 btw) and the fans had a blast with all three bands. Only problem was, that I had taken my then 9-year-old daughter with me and while she loved Amorphis (and of course, Nightwish), I could have prepared her better for Arch Enemy, so it ended with us leaving the main concert hall during that gig and only returning to it, when Nightwish started. I'm not sure if next year, we're already at a state where live concerts are a thing again, but I'd love to repeat that experience with my daughter (and she has already seen Turmion Katilöt opening for Beast in Black, so this time, everything should be fine :D)

Because his growling sound is straight from the gutter 😂 Glad to see you appreciate this band. It gets so easily overlooked despite being ridiculously talented.

And here we see Tank rocking an Amorphis custom video with Kultti audios... 😉 Well, everyone else seems to play custom stuff, so why not you too. This was a real treat, thank you!
I seriously hope these guys get even bigger. I love the personal, intimate bar shows. But god damn. They deserve a big stage like this, and a massive audience, because i'm not kidding when I say I have seen them 4 separate times and they are one of my favourite live performances. There's a certain beauty in their musicality, and the way they do things. Their writer is clearly ridiculously talented. Tomi's voice is so ridiculous, those deep as hell growls, and amazing soaring clean vocals. It would not be the same without both vocal types. Kultti, buddy. You killed it. Tank, this was a great reaction, and i'm looking forward to your next one. Black Winter Day is a fantastic recommendation, it is a HEAVY song from their old days.
I confess that I've never been a fan of harsh vocals, since my taste has always leaned toward power/symphonic/classic metal. But lately I've been slowly warming up to stuff like Arch Enemy, Immortal, and Dimmu Borgir. This is my first time listening to Amorphis, and it definitely sounds like something I could listen to every now and then!
I wasn't a fan of growls also, but I've liked Amorphis since the mid 90's. Those clean vocals balance it out so nicely. And now of course Floor's growling bits and Jinjer are on my radar, but Arch Enemy (at least what I've heard from them) is still a bit too much. Music wise great, but all growls makes it too heavy to listen to regularily. One BIG plus in Tomi's growls is that I can easily understand most of what he's singing.
I was the same, though I stopped listening to metal around the time Grunge became a thing ( I basically stopped listening to music completely, so it's not Kurt Cobain's fault^^). Didn't return to it until 2013 I think, and the first two albums that I listened to were Stone Sour's House of Gold and Bones part 1 and Amorphis' Circle. Both albums completely changed my mind and in the meantime, I can't even explain to myself that there was that time when I couldn't even listen to thrash metal because even Metallica's Master of Puppets sounded like Noise to my ears. today I love harsh vocals though my preference is when you have them mixed with clean vocals because of the dynamics that creates. Which probably explains why Tomi Joutsen and Mikael Stanne are my favorite singers as of right now.
Maybe try Wintersun "Sons of winter and stars" and "Time", both have quite "clean" harsh vocals where it's easier hear wording behind it. When you have listened more harsh vocals you ears start to pick up more words and it gets easier to "listen" lyrics. Well both song are good without lyrics, so if can't understand everything they work as instruments also. PS with lyrics i mean singing where you can understand wording.
Amorphis is one of those bands that has a completely unique and original sound, really amazing band and Tomi is an incredible vocalist. For some other kickass songs I recommend Sampo, Silent Waters or Silver Bride, all great songs
Great reaction. And such an epic song that takes you to another world. It’s become one of my all time favourites. A few months ago I hadn’t heard of Amorphis or Nightwish, but channels like yours and Chase’s have really opened my eyes to loads of new stuff and I’m hooked! Agree about his voice it’s incredible and hard to believe it’s the same guy on cleans and growling.
I started listen to Amorphis when I was arond 16... now I'm 37... and it's still one of my fav bands ever. Pasi Koskinen on vocals or Tomi Joutsen... love them both :)
No doubt Pasi is a vocal beast too. However, I loved him in Shape of Despair much more than in Amorphis. And it's a disaster that he left both bands for Ajattara which, unfortunately, I don't enjoy that much.
Seen Amorphis multiple times and they are one of the few bands that actually sound live as good as in albums. The talent is phenomenal. And Tomi....well...the best growler EVER. And his clears are amazing too.
Seen these guys live here twice in the states. Really great show. Last show had them, dark tranquility, moonspell, and omnium gatherum in louisville. Was a great night.

Those vocals always go to my soul and touch something deep in there, both the clean and the growls. Thank you for getting back to Amorphis! "Forging a Land of Thousand Lakes" DVD (Oulu) has nice audio. I especially recommend Silver Bride and Majestic Beast.

I seen these guys play live on Oct. 5, 2019 with Delain and Anneke van Giersbergen. I even participated with the meet and greet with everyone. This was at Venue in Vancouver, BC. These guys were a great group to talk to, and not many people were rushing them. So I got to talk to each person. That was awesome. Also, on that NA Tour, until that day, Delain’s drummer Joey had been missing because he didn’t have his paperwork done properly to enter Canada. So Jan from Amorphis was filling in for Delains’ set. That very night, 3/4 through the concert, Joey made it!!!! Charlotte Wessels (Delain) told us Joey’s story of a week of HELL of staying at hostel’s, airports, taking multiple flights, fighting his way to catch up with the tour, and everyone got the news mid show that he was there! He walked out, and the crowd went insane! Anyways, it was a good show, and the last one I went to before everything has shut down.
Would love to see you do Amongst Stars! There are no good live videos of it TH-cam but the music video is beautiful, including Finnish summer and the lovely Anneke van Giersbergen.

Just an FYI Delain/Amorphis with Anneke were touring the US a few months before Quarantine, I was able to make the show in Atlanta, they sounded killer live.
Growing up in the 70s and listening to the classic rock bands back then, I've got to say Amorphis are one of the best bands I've heard in the past 20 years. First heard Eclipse back in 2006 and some of the most catchiest, melodic metal I'd ever heard. Some would probably say that was a departure from the 90s material but they've kept the quality up over the years.
Wow! Awesome editing job!! Great song too! And one thing I wanted to comment for ages now: it's always so funny to see your super stoked, smiling "let's goooooo" and then cut to your face super honest, super concentrated! 😅 Always makes laugh... 😊

I've seen them live twice in Lithuania and the vocalist used the double mic both times. They are great!
I don’t think there’s a music video for it or even a live version that does it justice but Brother Moon was the song that introduced me to Amorohis and I still love it 14 years later
Amongst Stars by Amorphis is one of my favs. Such a cool contrast with Anneke van Giersbergen (of The Gathering and Devin Townsend fame) on guest vocals. Video is dope too. Kultti did a great job with this video. What a legend.
I always forget how well they sound - both with the harsh and the clean vocals ^^' Kudos, to whomever did do the edit on the vid, the life footage and the studio audio mesh really well 🥰
Oooooh this is one of my favourite songs! Never seen a video of it... don't have time to watch now, will have to wait a few hours but looking forward to a first-time-watch with your reaction.. Edit: still haven't seen it but want to like it again already.
Greetings from Finland & thanks for your reaction / analysis of yet another great Finnish metal band with their great male vocalist Tomi Joutsen (last name translates as "Swan" in English).

That teary eyes happened when i heard this 1st time...i think it's harmonies and how they are presented really good way. Good u found it or some1 recommended it
Elias Lönrot went to eastern Finland to gather old poets and songs and put folklore to books 1800 something. Never really gotten familiar with centuries or inches or foots but hey i know them :D Good job man as always
I don't watch alot of metal but I have to admit it was nice. I was especially impressed with his singing voice. THAT surprised me!!! The musical arrangement was excellent. This is one of the reasons I keep watching is the music you bring out, along with your intelligent comments (of course), adds to my knowledge and musical experiences. Keep up the good work and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Eat well and laugh hard!
One of my personal favorite songs is Tree of Ages from Under the Red Cloud. As an added bonus, it features guest artist Chrigel Glanzmann on flutes/whistles.
Great! These folks are pioneers in nordic metal scene. Keep in mind their song Among Stars for a future reaction. They have Anneke from The Gathering, and it's wonderful
I was there 2018! It was freakin hot- like a meltin pot full of metalheads. 🥵Awesome show and Tomi is my facourite singer (growls and clean voice) in the metal genre. Loooved your reaction! 🤘🏻
Haven't watched this yet, but you can't go wrong with this song. It is a masterpiece Also, because I can copy and paste form my last comment (I can be lazy if I want to lol) Apocalypse Orchestra - The Garden of Earthly Delights (sorta a medieval folk rock/metal) ГРАЙ - В объятиях Мары (Russian folk metal/rock. I clicked on this because TH-cam algorithms, it is a really beautiful song that I have had on repeat) Stratovarius - Dreamweaver (can also check out Destiny) Ningen Isu - Heartless Scat (Japanese hardrock, by guys that are older) Wolfheart - Everlasting Fall (has a really awesome intro)
I haven't really listened to Amorphis since the 90's. A black winter day was the very first metal song I heard. But the love is definitely starting to come back. So in a way it's thanks to Amorphis, that I'm sitting here right now, watching your videos. I've always loved a rich, full growl and this definitely delivers. Also it's very rare to find a singer with both a good growl, and a gorgeous regular voice. And to finish it off, I would absolutely pay to see an Amorphis/the Hu collaboration.
I saw them in concert in Kansas City several years back. Under the Red Cloud tour with Swallow the Sun opening. I did the VIP and got a sighned vinyl and photo with the band. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. Last song of the set was, Death of a King. WHAT A VOICE!!
On the subject of the microphones: Tomi did use that enormous mic during live shows in the past, but I saw them in January in Holland with Dimmu Borgir (remember concerts?) and was also very surprised he used a "normal" live mic now. I saw some comments recommending the Amongst Stars video, totally agree, that's an amazing song!
Talking about amazing voices, I can't wait for a new Sleep Token video! Blood Sport (from the room below) is a beautiful thing and I'd love your reaction! But make sure to have some tissues just in case...

I was there at this performance in wacken and i saw them 3 more times. This was the only time that i saw the singer without the big microphone.
Always makes laugh...
LMAO 🤣 I picked out that Thunderbird immediately. Was just Ooooohhhhh!!!!!! A Thunderbird!!!! Yes!!!!! Haha
I always forget how well they sound - both with the harsh and the clean vocals ^^'
Kudos, to whomever did do the edit on the vid, the life footage and the studio audio mesh really well 🥰
Tank maby next from Finland ?????? BATTLE BEAST NOORA LOUHIMO. Straight to the Heart. Noora amazing voice.
Loved the reaction, sweet Tank, and great job Kultti!
After forever..... energize me....equally destructive
ty and big up for Kultti also
Oooooh this is one of my favourite songs! Never seen a video of it... don't have time to watch now, will have to wait a few hours but looking forward to a first-time-watch with your reaction..
Edit: still haven't seen it but want to like it again already.
Greetings from Finland & thanks for your reaction / analysis of yet another great Finnish metal band with their great male vocalist Tomi Joutsen (last name translates as "Swan" in English).
kultti make amazing job, wow. what a great idea mix live and studio to same wow. i looking before document about finish heavy metal history. there they asking heavy music artists and radio and magazine people, who is finland heavy music face in outside finland? the name pop up was this singer tomi joutsen, alexi laiho and marko hietala. amazing song and reaction tank thanx. have great weekend there.
Ok let's appreciate what your friend on discord did, this guy is next level in sound edition what the actual fuck
Iconic song Iconic band love both thankyou.
Thank you!
its not without reason that theyre one of my favorite bands, if not my favorite overall...
Haven't watched this yet, but you can't go wrong with this song. It is a masterpiece
Also, because I can copy and paste form my last comment (I can be lazy if I want to lol)
Apocalypse Orchestra - The Garden of Earthly Delights (sorta a medieval folk rock/metal)
ГРАЙ - В объятиях Мары (Russian folk metal/rock. I clicked on this because TH-cam algorithms, it is a really beautiful song that I have had on repeat)
Stratovarius - Dreamweaver (can also check out Destiny)
Ningen Isu - Heartless Scat (Japanese hardrock, by guys that are older)
Wolfheart - Everlasting Fall (has a really awesome intro)
Yes to Stratovarius - Destiny!!!
I second Apocalypse Orchestra, such an incredible and unique band.
Holy shit. Sync on this one is so perfect.
Nice compromise. I remember some of these live Wacken videos had lackluster audio.
You gotta love Amorphis! Quality through and through.
That was a great edit and lining everything up! Very nice job!!!
Not even four minutes in and I want more. A lot more. This would be the perfect soundtrack for a game.
yessss.... this is the studio audio...
Sick!!!
Thank you for paying attention to Amorphis. This band is so underrated. More people should know about them. 🤘
This song is an instant classic. The album is incredible
I love that you did this, one of my favorite bands. Would also really really love it if you did one with "Mercenary - From the ashes of the fallen"
