  • The media reports were clear: Tesla were going to cancel the Model 2. Only it didn't happen. In fact, Elon Musk has doubled down on Tesla's budget electric vehicle. So what went wrong? And why do people still believe such dubious reports. To find out what's REALLY going on, stick around as Dave Takes It On.

Some have done things, the French makers especially seem to understand and the Renault 5 really looks a killer car for a lot in that 22K price range given how cheap EV's are to maintain etc. To note I have the MG4 and just love it and so easy to drive and no maintenance.

Interesting timing for this update, as it's reported today that the heads of Charging and New Product Initiatives have been laid off, together with the entire Supercharger team. If the strategy is to pivot to the autonomous taxi business, you really don't need new models, a simplified, stripped out and ruggedised version of the existing cars would do just fine. Interesting times...

  • @jemima_brown
    @jemima_brown หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Alternative hypothesis: Reuters was correct. Elon changed his mind.
Elon did, in fact, postpone plans for a Model 2 to focus on robotaxi, optimus, and other share price pump hypes (we're an AI company, don't think of Tesla as a car manufacturer). He incorrectly judged market sentiment.
Shareholders were skeptical of this plan (a flood of cheap EVs is near; Tesla risks contraction) and as a result, shares plunged.
Having realised he incorrectly judged market sentiment, he hastily reversed course and cobbled together a plausible plan for a cheaper car (or at least an announcement of a plan) to placate investors and therefore stop the share price spiralling.
That cheaper car might not even be the initially envisaged/speculated/hyped Model 2 - just something cheaper than Model 3 that, in the minds of enough investors, can or might be delivered in 2025. The problem of share price is deferred and the board survives another day.
    Your thoughts, disproof, etc.?
The Reuters article 5 April is still up and has no retraction printed on it. Was Dave being correct and honest at 1:46 when he said Reuters had "done a retraction on it"?

Over your last two or three videos all you have spoken about is Tesla. Even the one you did about people looking for chargers every day when they cannot charge at home you suggested they go and look for the nearest Tesla chargers open to all. They may be a bit cheaper but there are none close enough to me. Any chance you can stop fixating on Tesla? I cannot charge at home but I use the local Tesco 7kw chargers but it takes me three sessions to completely fill the battery pack as the limit for parking is three hours or you get fined. I drive a Zoe ZE50 and the only rapid chargers near to me are BP Pulse which costs 69p a kw.

      So, you're a "Driver".
You pass your test... You're barely "Ok", but you drive ("practice") in your country for a period.
You get to be a "reasonable" driver.
      .
*THEN* you feel confident to drive in another country.
The skills you have reduce the learning curve by ... 80(?) percent?
In a short time you're at the same standard as in your own country.
      .
(If you'd tried 1 month after passing your test.... ? Terrible?)

FSD will be "experienced" when it arrives in Europe (then UK, etc)

  • @Battleneter

Musk has been promising Robo taxis every year since 2016 , even saying its ready now in bloody 2016. The reality is full self driving will still not pass scrutiny in most countries and states of the US. The claims of later this year (again) is 100% about propping up the plummeting Tesla share price $$, Musk needed "something" so turned to the old self driving chestnut.

@@davetakesiton that’s charging at home at night when you get seven hours at the cheap rate, you won’t be charging a car during the day for that.
