Used ev market has some amazing opportunities to get into EVs at the moment! I'm thinking of getting my dad into one. He loves driving mine 👍
definitely have look, bargains to be had
Hi Dave, greetings from Oxford. I’m very sad about Ford, a great history, but they are flailing around without direction. As you point out, what a history. Ford was always the peoples choice. Like all legacy auto, they are stuck with a foot in each camp. They need to find some direction, and fast.
I just saw this "In 2023, BYD sold fewer than 16,000 cars, all of them full electric, giving it a 1.1 percent share of that sector, according to market researcher Dataforce.".... 16000 cars in total in Europe.. compare that to one of the Tesla models (Model 3) (edit: I mean Model Y) which sold in 250000 units. And people call BYD a tesla competitor? I think Tesla disagre.
My local Ford dealer in South Africa has just built an extension on their showroom and added a ...... Haval (GWM) franchise. We are seeing very few new Fords, except for Rangers around town but loads of Havals.
Losses of $1.3 billion is a fairly significant number but not as large as 8.3 billion. That’s the record tonnage of coal produced globally in 2023. China took over 4 billion of that. So China is moving to dominate the EV market with the help of European car manufacturers who regularly refer to net zero. If the public choose to buy an EV and it financially and conveniently works that’s fine, but it’s the hypocrisy of the adverts with net zero BS and people who preach EV virtue signalling which we can all see through.
Take a look at the latest 'Just have a Think' - China is investing pretty much more than everyone else combined on renewable energy. They use coal as peak production 'top up' and will be 'net zero' way ahead of everyone else. If you think net zero is B/S then take a look out of your window - in the UK it has rained all winter, with dramatic impacts on food production and potholes, and any country you choose is having climate issues.
@@pauleast4372 around 60% of China's power is generated from coal. This is an extract from a recent US report on China's use of coal (using 2022 figures - the last currently available complete data) for power generation.... "China added 19.5 GW of coal power capacity in 2022, despite pledging to reduce coal consumption. Additionally, construction of coal projects that started in 2022 will add 50 GW of capacity which is over 50% more than capacity that started construction in 2021. There were 106 GW of new coal power capacity granted permits in 2022, a 360% increase from 2021" - So much for China being 'green'.
Ive been driving EV's for years because they are just better in every way for me, plus i love the instant acceleration. But i agree that net zero is a scam & people should be allowed to buy what ever car they want, ban private jets before you try telling someone they cant have a petrol car.
Tesla Supermarket, not obsessed at all?
If only Tesco were Tesla! 😅
@@PJWey Courgettes are expensive at Tesla...
Can I get some Tesla baked beans please?
Lemons everywhere
I thought he said that, mind you Tesco isn’t that good either!
79 pence per kWh. This is why I left ripoff Britain in 2001 for Canada. The Tesla supercharger here in my city of Kelowna, BC is CAD 21 cents per kWh. That's just over 12p.
You guys are such muppets putting up with that.
Don't we know it
It is a nation of obedient lemurs, but there are some examples of great defiance without resorting to violence.
Yeah but you have to live in Canada 😂
I went to Canada once never again. As my wife’s uncle said it’s not the winters you have to worry about it if you can stand the summer. It was like being in the centre of a very wet and soggy sun.
It seems to me that there are too many people who just get into the car and drive around thinking they’re invisible!! It’s time to show the management of automotive companies that they have to DROP their inflated prices and make slightly LESS profit.
Pretty sure most of these companies have suffered through government complete lack of clear forward planning and contradictory legislation.
Excellent episode
There is no space available for chargers so using footpaths, road parking and general parking space into charging bays further inconveniencing general public. Working two jobs to pay bills, not everyone can buy a £40,000 electric car plus insurance and bills. Can get a small petrol one for £1000. What about these families?
You’re right that not everyone can buy a £40k electric car. But for everyone else, there’s a good number of 2nd hand electric car options, many of which are quite cheap, and they still have the advantage of having smaller maintenance requirements.
I can't afford a private executive jet, but at least I don't try to stop those who can from buying one.
@@davetakesiton Maybe you should, 1 plane creates more greenhouse gas emissions than thousands of cars.
@@davetakesiton quite right but they don't dig up a used by all public space to land it either.!
Can you really get a brand-new petrol car for £1000? Which one would that be then?
F1 chat “Dave (over)takes it on!” 😂
It's the lack of pricing information, we need pricing boards like tradional petrol stations, more subliminal messaging getting people to realise it's cheaper somewhere else
I think most people would use an app to a) find them and b) see the price.
Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt people just aimlessly drive around and hope to find a charging spot somewhere?
Tesla mapping in the car has a very detailed view of nearby charges Tesla or otherwise. But I don’t think it includes pricing apart from Tesla chargers. I think many people supercharge for convenience and they just don’t look at the price.
@ouethojlkjn agree it's more they are happy to find one or one that works. Definitely need clearer pricing for the future though kinda like petrol station price boards
Great video
It’s concerning that fossil fuel companies are acquiring charging networks as they surely have a conflict of interest regarding their competitiveness and maintenance.
Dave, tesla lay offs are Not dramatic. Tesla lays people off almost annually as they pivot the business and have one eye on the faltering us economy. As the company has grown massively in recent years, it is just good business management.
isn't the reason people dont look beyond the Instavolt iOS they claim it back on expenses ? so for them it's not an issue ?
That's a very nice row of electric chargers with nearly no one using them, they look expensive. It's the catch 22 no one who charges at home will use a public charger and thus to try and recoup the investment they'll have to charge high prices. There another bunch just been put in at a nearby Sainsbury's no one is ever using them when I'm there either. Anecdotally, charger companies on the express way to insolvency.
I charge at home, I have made videos of it. I also charge at superchargers. I make videos of that. I charged at a Tesla supercharger yesterday morning in Bristol, 185 miles away and paid 25p per kWh, which is cheaper than you buy your electricity for your home, currently 27p. How am I meant to get home to charge cheaply there? Push my EV? I also meet many others who also charge at home and charge at superchargers and Gridserve. You need a reality check, Martin. They are there because people use them.
@@davetakesiton It's numbers Dave, those chargers have been there awhile I walk past them regularly what you saw today it the way they always are. They are expensive to build and they need people to use them and in that spot they aren't. So the company who installed them must lose money. Maybe it will change, but because people can charge at home and will do so unless there is literally no other option I'm not thinking that very likely. Most people don't drive very far, but even those people if they have a ICE car have to fill up sometimes. Not so with EV's
@@davetakesiton well you are telling people not to use them after all.
It’s known better for traditional auto. Over 30% of petrol stations have disappeared in the last 10 years alone. As for pricing, It works out to be roughly the same as you would pay for a diesel achieving 60 miles per gallon. They peg the prices to people are already paying.
Old news. Ford stated they will sell Mustangs and trucks.
We visit Sadly Broke most years but use Cribbs for charging, certainly wouldn’t be using this place even though its right opposite my family’s road
STELLANTIS are going to assemble Leap Motor vehicles in Poland. Automotive News Europe published an article on the matter on May 1st.
Or Sadly Broke as its known locally.
And in 1916, Ford provided us with the most popular car in the world, the Model T Ford.
Over the air updates - it took Apple nearly three months to update my iPad and then it was only achieved by input from me. The update over the air failed due to a number of reasons - the state of the iPad at the time, the atmospheric conditions and transmitter faults. I don’t have much hope for updates to my car!
My old Tesla still gets a few a month with no issues, never had any problems in the 4 years I’ve owned it
Over the air updates is nothing new. Tesla have been doing it for years, but no one else seems to have gotten the hang of it.
You are a long way from home!
I also have followed F1 since early 1991 and great to hear you watch it, I agree with your comments from there! Great and different news update. Trying to understand why Elon Musk is laying so many off is a huge question. I hope we get more answers soon. But you forgot to mention this one!
Black knight is, look around and all are doing it, just Elon gets the headlines. We are in a world slow down, possible recession combined with high interest rates, not good, but Elon did warn us that 24 would be a tough year almost a year ago. He also predicts the end soon, have faith
I wonder how long I will be able to use Tesla Superchargers with my MG4 now?
You no longer need to form a joint venture to manufacture/sell vehicles in China.
Hi Dave have you picked up the story that Tritium is in trouble and cannot find a buyer for their business. I believe Osprey, Evyve, Pod Point , BP and many others use there units.
As we all noticed at the start of your report you walk along a line of empty charging points and as you said later on this equals to much investment = overpricing = bankruptcy and the same could be said of car manufacturers as take VW group they make ICE cars and EV's so not only are they competing with the rest but also with them self's times that up with the rest of the auto industry and we have double over capacity (take out Tesla from that statement) something is going to give.
Did he actually discuss the Tesla layoffs ?
I don't think he did.
But no no no, he's not a Tesla fan boy not at all.
Hi Dave, there looks to be a lot more superchargers open to the public now. Can you confirm this please
Yes, I reported 42 at the beginning of the year 5 months ago, now there are 66. Massive increase and gaining pace all the time.
Ford are discovering the hard way what happens when you decide to ignore yout core market. Do they seriously think Fiesta owners will all switch to 60k MachE's?
Well, make sure that fiesta doesn’t have one of those wet belt eco-boom engines…
At the site of a Tesla supermarket? Lol, I think you mean Tesco Dave. You’ve got Tesla on the brain!
Interchangeable in some of my videos
A question for anyone out there. How much is an EV worth with a dead battery???
full value if its less than 8 years old, battery replacement is covered by warranty. If out of warranty about the same as a dead ICE car with a blown engine but your ICE car only has 2 or 3 year warranty, we get 8 years.
It’s amazing how Tesla are doing well ???
Why are tesla shutting down supercharger s prog downcan answer that
Yes I can, they are not. Do you really think that a company the size of Tesla and the supercharger network the size that it is, there are only 400 people in the whole world working on superchargers? The supercharger program is massive and continuing successfully on its huge growth program, 24 new open to all chargers in the UK this year so far. They merely shut down one department that was underperforming. Unlike the entire advertising department that was shut down and closed. A whole department achieved absolutely nothing at all and the only reason they were formed in the first place was because a few silly shareholders believed that they would sell more if they had a full advertising and promotions and publicity department just like the ICE legacy giants and forced a vote on it. Turns out Elon was right and the shareholders got it wrong. Advertising made absolutely no difference. If someone has never heard of Tesla they will never be influenced to go out and buy one by a silly advert.
Tesla use local contractors to install. They don’t need anyone to market or develop anymore because with version four, they’ve got a future proof offering anyway. God knows how they’re made but probably using Optimus bots by now.
Didn’t know that Tesla owns Tesco’s. I think you meant to say you were at a Tesco’s.
Yeah, Tesla are doing a brilliant job making the CyberTurkey.
flying out of the door faster than they can make them, I call that rather good
@@davetakesiton I can also make up artificial demand by limiting my production capacity, its a classic tactic to create hype.
I'm also unconvinced about how safe Chinese EV's are th-cam.com/video/8HpkDUWAKFM/w-d-xo.html airbags not deploying and central locking systems jamming as the occupants burn alive. Scary stuff.
But we have been buying Chinese cars for years already. Besides the latest MG4, Volvo has been made in China for over a decade. Are they unsafe? How about your iPhone, is that unsafe? Or your Dyson vacuum cleaner, or your Burberry clothes, do I need to say more. Nike?
Ooh, first
Dave talks crap sometimes. I love my electric car but a lot of this is just waffle.
Tesla supermarket?
Not looking too good for EVs at the moment.
Yes 40% projected growth this year is pitiful
@davetakesiton you don't understand that no matter the reason that Tesla is slowing down their supercharger installation or the reason Ford is suffering its still not a good look. People will see the headlines and read into that as failing.
I couldn't face the full 40 mins , I lasted 10.
well done
£1.3BN Loss, when are people gonna realize the numbers speak for themselves,The ev dream is over.
Still wishful thinking I see...... £1.3 billion is tiny, when compared with Ford's losses over the past couple of decades. Ford have been teetering on the brink of bankruptcy for years...... Volkswagen, Hyundai/Kia etc have invested *hundreds* of billions into EV development and manufacture Jamie, just to give you some context of where Ford are......Ford are a tiny player in the EV market. And for reasons best known to themselves, seem unable to produce the EV's people want to buy in sufficient numbers.
Oh, Jamie! You just don’t get it, do you?
@@colinsuter6888 I do get it,I'm in the right job to know.😉
You mean Ford's EV nightmare
It is for Ford, I totally agree and good riddance
EV ☠️
Stellantis. My revivifier bought a Caravan (basic people mover) in 2012, paid for $20k CAD. In 2024, the new Caravan is $53k CAD, VAT extra - same price as Model Y from Tesla, VAT exempt. Choose one.
Prices will drop with all rapid charging companies once they have got some of their investment costs back.
As would happen if I bought Ford, the current management should bring back the old famous names like Cortina, Escort, Focus and so on instead of bringing new names like Explorer to the field.
How can ford be the 2nd highest with 10,000 units behind tesla on 380,000. Are you not ignoring china. Also your logic behind losses is also flawed.
Ask Jim Farley, No. 2 in the states, overtaking GM, that's what he claimed in a recent interview.
@@davetakesiton You fail to notice CHINA do not sell cars in the USA
So why is not the price advertised on big signs before you pull in , as with petrol, answer Dave???
we know the price of all Tesla superchargers long before we get there. No point telling us the obvious.
@@davetakesiton What if you do not own a tesla?
@@tomegtonPresumably most people use all app to find them or the car? I don't understand how people get surprised at the price. I'll be using some in Italy in a couple of days time and I know the price already.
@@tomegton if you don’t own a Tesla, you won’t be using a Tesla supercharger I suppose
Dave, you do not seem to have considered that in a "price war" Tesla will increase there price to 80/90 p . You never mention that fact!!
OK Tom, you seem to have some inside information. Let us in on your secret, or is this just pure BS because you do not like Tesla? Prices 4 years ago when I bought my Model S were 17p per kWh, today, despite massive electricity price rises, it is 22p. Stop lying and stop scare mongering. You have no idea what Tesla will do and from past record over 10 years, prices are remarkably stable. Allowing for inflation prices are actually going down. No Tom, not a "fact" just wild speculation based on absolutely nothing from someone who obviously doesn't like EVs.
@@davetakesiton Im nolt scaremongering, It makes business sense, why in any business would you undercut your competitors by half? I am not against EV cars at all, but you yourselve who has a lot of money, fail to take into account people like myself who can only buy a car about every 5 years at around £2500/3000 at todays prices, people like myself cannot afford a electric car, and just in case, i should point out i am a pensioner ,like yourself. At 70p for electric, (the nearest tesla charger is 53 miles away) it costs more than diesel
Sorry l thought they were shutting downmanafac?toringso it's just advertised side off it
