Love me some Opossum Bud!
@@evanwilliams3165when I was brand new to Pokemon collecting last year, he was very helpful and honest anytime I reached out over things that seemed off or weird. Solid dude.
9th year in a row Rudy has talked me out of starting a card store. Thanks again.
The market is chaotic and uneven…just like Rudy’s facial hair.
Isn't it sadder when a LGS goes away in a soft "poof"?
It means they didn't hose anyone, played fair, didn't take crazy risks, but went down all the same.
My LGS don't take preorders until about 2 weeks out. The owner said it's because he want to be certain of his allocation numbers first. They have always took care of me and vice versa. They honored their preorders when LOTR went to the moon, and I have honored my preorders when Commander Masters tanked, and when LOTR holiday edition tanked, and when Murders at Karlov Manor tanked...
, and when Midnight tanked, and when Crimson tanked, and when Baldur's Maze tanked...
Rudy: We live in a society.
Everyone: *nods wisely*
Seems like the only way to make a small fortune with most (not all) game stores is to start with a large fortune😜
There's Rudy, lgsplaining
omg :)
No you didn't😂
I feel so forunate to have such a great LGS near home here in Italy, they are just awesome and i'd do anything to help them if they need help in the future, and i'm sure i'm not the only one of their clients to think this, love you LGS and help it❤
Italian confident and educated investor right outta here fratello
If you take a customers money and do not deliver, it is theft by deception. Happens all the time in general contracting.
I don’t disagree…but there is the benefit of doubt and Rudy has a point. It **is** possible, even probable, that some of these stores didn’t, initially, intend to rob people (even though it’s robbery all the same)
The lesson here is to stop preordering products. It’s wild to me how expensive the preorders for Karlov were, only to drop $100 on the day of release. I’m not a financial guru, I can’t explain every market shift, but I know volatility when I see it
Appreciate the mention big G 🙏🏽
Super easy to become a millionaire in the TCG market.........just have to start as a billionaire 😅
7:24 correct!! As long as you never preorder anything, you won't lose money when the price goes down, or lose your preorder if the price goes up.
I remember the Tap2Blue drama, funny enough they opened another LGS under a different name like a month later and no one noticed. As far as I know they're still operating.
The rule here that we sometimes forget: DO. NOT. PREORDER. ANYTHING. EVER.
As a store owner, I only order what was preordered, so eh.
What is wild to me is this company in particular was doing a TON of advertising. I saw them all over Facebook the past year and I don’t live remotely close to them.
This accidental ponzi scheme you are describing is a much better reason to not preorder I kinda wish you'd brought that up sooner in relation.
Youre literally describing a ponzi scheme
just got to 7:20
Agreed. Not all ponzi schemes start off w malicious intent anyway.
Most of the card shops I visit that last do so because they diversify. Most make their money on things other than cards. Many make most of their money outside the shop.

This has been happening forever! I remember a (locally) "famous" game store back in the late 70's that vanished overnight with all their inventory. We were all shocked!! This was the kind of store that you planned trips to (it was about an hour and a half away) like a pilgrimage!

Revenge of the card shop life ..... .
Same shit different day
SSDD
Within 60 miles of where I live two car shops have shut down one was less than 6 months old the other was pretty well established over at least a decade and all of them have closed shop......
Have you considered releasing these as podcasts? I don't always get to sit down and watch on TH-cam, but I wouldn't mind being able to listen in my car to/from work.
Just play it in your car. That’s how I listen to these videos
You could just listen to the video in your car like a podcast, that’s what I do. Just because it’s a video doesn’t mean it HAS to be watched 😂
It wouldn't make any sense to do these as a podcast lol he's been doing it this way almost a decade by now
Susan is trying to get my money to play these videos while in another app, or while the phone is asleep. Little does she know I don't have any money to spend after buying out people's heavy bags of Dragon's Maze.
@@TozWozEar you can open it in say on firefox mobile on the mobile youtube website and run in the background.
or just save the video locally with some site.. it's a hassle though of course. the mobile browser method is a lot less hassle. it can pause it when you switch out but you can press resume from the lock screen or from the dropdown notifications area menu. if it's on a playlist you can do next/prev.
they really should just sell audio ads or something and let people play in the background like 99% of youtubes users will not or can not pay for premium. youtube premium is like 4x the price of pc gamepass over here.. f that shit I don't want to watch any of the premium content anyway.
I can't imagine how much money it would take to keep an LGS afloat.
It's sad to say but this is me at this point I keep getting a lil but saved up again in the business then I get a flat tire window breaks cost me 600 bucks and I'm back to struggling to get my next order 😅
The LGS that stays in business must be into everything. They need to sell Comic Books, Trading Cards, Vintage Toys, Models, Board Games, Video Games and all retro systems, etc. I've walked into so many stores looking for comic books and they have nothing. No comic book store in the city I live in.
This is exactly why you buy from rudy. You only lose 80% instead of 100% of your money lol
Bro I'm not even into magic a whole lot, haven't played for years but just watch Rudy because tcg drama is funny af sometimes
If any of these dummies would pump standard they would suddenly see that standard was the base of card value forever. It’s gonna take a heavy lift to build standard back up. If we don’t.. it wilts down to 💩
These a new Gaming store that just opened last weekend & it had a huge opening so huge that the news jump on. It, they said that planned it for over a year & it seems like that have there stuff together & I will be checking it myself soon ✔️
I am convinced many many online sellers profit by commit fraud on taxes and or not paying vat. in Europe stores pay 21% vat and online sellers are roughly 15-20% cheaper with no vat possible and if you exclude vat you come under the distro pricing!
Depends per country, Sweden is 25%, and if you are selling basic necesities (food/drink/clothes) it's less than half that
But yes I'm aware of at least 1 place that wasn't paying taxes (and got in trouble for it) and had most of it's sales online
Online it's easy to claim you make the sales as a private seller
at least in germany the Finanzamt will get them, sooner or later. its so simple to prove vat fraud for the authorities and its a big payday everytime for them, so they will go after each and one of them, it just takes time.
yeah man, same in Italy. The biggest online seller pay their taxes, but the middle one that only sell online? They will catch it with the time
@@Hewhowantstoknow Look the vat in sweden might be 25% but when you buy it outside of sweden via a company it is 0 then they sell it private and pay no vat.
*THE BOOKSHELF IS BACK!*
6:40 Yes, comingling funds is illegal. Using money from one preorder to pay for merchandise from another preorder is literally theft. That's like a situation where one of my former coworkers bought a printer with company money and then returned that printer and used the cash to pay his rent that month. True story. Needless to say, he no longer works at this company.
" Yes, comingling funds is illegal " No its NOT. Where you come up with this nonsense.

There’s been a some discussions going around on the cost of shipping going up in 2024 and how it will probably have a negative impact for most TCG player sellers.
So far, they are getting sued by three different entities. They are most likely filing for bankruptcy. When they do that, they aren't allowed to refund anyone. Who gets paid back, when they get paid back, and how much they get paid back will be up to the bankruptcy court.
You sir are too old lol

It seems to me that the main problem in TCG are the distributors. THEY are the ones it seems to be greedy and strangling the LGSes. Could Hasbro or Pokemon etc limit how much distributors can charge for product? I wouldn t be surprised it this leads to distributors being bypassed by Amazon and amazon shipping directly to LGSes to bypass and F distributors who are the ones milking it and making it hard for many to not get enough product.
In my country which has a small MTG community, preorder is a necessity. Because after pre-order, prices go up as there hardly any restock. And we only have 1 distributor so prices are capped. All LGS sell at the same price.
LGS bought too much meta zoo 😂
Why is the 10950-60 have the 60 part BOLD and in a bigger font. In the description.
I'm gonna assume that it's important for mail to end up in right place
It's tough but the best way to think about it is your pre-order is a mini loan to that store... Do so wisely
A business that uses future loans to pay off previous ones? Hmm, where have I seen that unsustainable model before
In literally every big company.
It's a CEO's job to simply take as much money as possible before it crumbles around them and they're left holding the bag.
Just wondering why if they are making pre orders, that the store doesn't have the product. Since they made a pre order for it.
Because they obviously spent it on other bills that were due immediately. It's how you go bankrupt.
@@IneptCardCollector by why did they not use the money for the pre order? So what you're actually saying is they never made the pre order. I'm a bit confused I guess.
Also you are just assuming they did that. They could have just took the money and ran.
@Opposum Bud you made the big time, man!! Now... to Taco Bell with Rudy.
Investing into TCG's "feels" like a ponzi scheme too. If someone below you on the pyramid isn't interested in the cards, then you get left with the bag.
For the record, I don't collect cards to sell them for any profit. I just like having a "full" collection for a few reasons. #1) It's fun opening packs and filling out a binder set. Then after finishing the set, #2) I like to keep them as something to look at or enjoy. Finally, #3) you can sell them for $$ if you needed cash on an emergency. I think I spent about $150 total to get the full set of 1 to 165 Pokemon Scarlet & Violet 151. If I sold all my special illustration rares today, then I would get close to $125 back (and I would still have the full set of 1 to 165).
Basically everything is a ponzi then.
Gold, stocks, cards, hell making bread is a ponzi then.
Cause you need a sucker to buy your produce...
I think this is the wrong way to look at it.
"Oh the pooooooor lgs/reseller, they label us evil scalpers" LOL Cry me a river. LOL
Only Presales are do are Weiss Schwarz. And never from a brick and mortar.
They must have been heavy in Metazoo.
To The Moon 🌙
Do you use low interest loans to pay for your purchase upfront? Do you and the bank make money on my savings leaving me with the least profit of the 3 (only 2can win)
How do so many boxes get listed/sold for under distribution costs? Wouldn’t this weed out the bad stores and not be a thing every single time?
yes and after taking too many such hits you wouldn't be able to buy anymore boxes because you would be out of business @@MAN-ON-THE-HORSE-MUSIC
Overprinting? If the demand isn't there, it's better for the shop to get a 20% loss then a 100% loss with product that is on the shelf for years, binding capital.
You are wrong. MTGLion makes so much money running his LGS
a ez win with credit card company or paypal. I wouldn't even complain in a situation like this.

Pushers gotta push.
So how do you think this lines up with Team Covenant still selling Sorcery Beta boxes for $150? Do you think they're undercutting themselves by not inflating like everyone else? (My LGS wants $288 for a box and TCG has market price set at $188 as of now.) I've heard rumors of TC getting deals from the Sorcery producer in order to help keep the boxes at $150, but, like I said rumor.
Beta should have sold out a couple months ago

Honestly, new to life.. new to the real world… and Rudy tells it true! I’ve learned a lot from this channel!
I don't invest in magic because their is too much friction
I feel like the distributers are the issue. Those sales reps are devilish
Could distributors make a new model? To help smaller business only secure just enough product for a release. Small businesses don’t want to lock up too much capital, especially on something as volatile as magic is.
Why would they do that when they could just give it all to a store with money?
@@ejeverett4322
Sure in fantasy land, the distributors would give product and money for free. That isnt reality though.
It's not distribution problem it's a Hasbro problem

Dont be fooled. No one asks him to talk about this stuff and hes just waffling at this point to stay relevant.
