I have a few LGS by me within a 15 min drive and another lgs (which is the nicest of course) that is 45 min away that i dont get to go to much. Almost all of them either didnt buy karlov manor, or are only selling whatever preorders ppl got. The one employee at sunday edh day, went into the room of 20 players saying “preprder only for karlov $142 a box, that the best we can do”….no one was interested, but a couple ppl did ask about the fallout decks. Even ravnica remastered didnt sell well by me, and only lost caverns set has done well since before commander masters. Every other set has flopped or been sitting on shelves collecting dust cuz its too expensive.

There is a lot of money to be made in "failed TCG's". There's probably money to be made on MetaZoo to be honest.
The set sucks, the price increase sucks, the invisible ink sucks, the 1940's typewriter font sucks, most of the art sucks, Murders at swipe left manor just outright sucks.

Why should anyone care about all that suck? So we miss out on cards that suck. Western civilization will not fall because we don't pay higher prices for sucky cards.
They used unused Streets of New Capenna art for MKM. It makes for a very strange depiction of Ravnica.

@@damo9961 That’s a bit of a stretch. It would require art commissioned during SNC but for reasons never used. Even though the art wasn’t used, it would still be credited to the artist.
Then to do digital alterations would then call into question who to credit: the original artist or the one who didn’t touch ups. We can say “ the original did the touch ups “ but this is assuming all artist are proficient with doing digital alterations on a scale many are suggesting. If we are assuming some other artist used AI to touch up pre-existing work is plagiarism. With how quick artist call out AI art, we would have heard from someone by now.
There is a lot of ugly digital art in this set but it’s pure speculation and tin foil hat to think this is reused or modified existing SNC art.

Rare lands are a dollar each it’s a wrap for this set. It’s the best thing to happen to the Game Piece Army since Baldur’s.

WOTC has combined two products to simplify production and logistics, saving money on this, and is now targeting less accurately with one product the two consumer segments buying those two products beforehand - and of cause still expects to get along with a price increase. Well, did even Apple achieve something like this with its fanboy customer base...

Not doing well because the new mechanics are shit and the art direction is stupid. All the guilds have detectives that apparently all wear trench coats and hats, including sphinxes and zombies. They couldn't even give each guild a unique look. Cards are also weak
This happens every time I don't throw thousands of dollars at a set. It's almost like my set evaluations are aligned with other mtg players. Here's a hint: If you think that at least 5 rares can definitely hold a value of over $10 (a land cycle or a cycle of something just as cool), buy a box. If you love the entire set and want all the cards, buy a case. If neither is true, buy your favourite card from the set for a deck (it will lose 50% of its value but whatever, you skipped the set and bought one card. Loss of maybe $1-$5 depending if you spent $2 or $10 on that one card.
Rudy, this is product is priced TOO DAMN HIGH. Make Play boxes 24 packs, for draft purposes. Drop the price a smidge, and sealed boxes will sell. The set itself is sorta meh, commons and uncommon hold more value than most of the rares! Poorly designed set and box sizes.
It's 36 packs so you can do two 6-person drafts.

Yep I skipped prerelease for the first time in 3 years because I walked in with $30 for the prerelease event and found they raised it to $40. Sorry. Not paying 40 dollars for 6 draft packs.
My LCS had Play boxes for $150. I was pissed. $40 more than they sold set boxes for. Went home n bought all the singles I wanted for around $125 instead.
Dude our store was charging 160. And for what equates to a draft box. Because I’ll be the first to say that these play boosters are WAY worse than the old set packs. And negligibly better than old draft packs. I’m actually upset they’re doing this.
Anyone who actually plays MTG knows Manor was a rough sealed experience in prereleases and isn’t approachable for new players. Feels great on Arena. Morph and manifest combined with clue theme is a bad idea for a standard set.
Also all white cards that are not a white casting cost was a dumb idea

It's a boring ass set. I can't even make it through opening videos I normally watch all the way through.
It's a shame the only chase cards in the set seem to be lower rarity than what they should be. Forensic Gadgeteer, Crime Novelist and laughably Slime Against Humanity (which seems more of a meme or pauper chase) feel like they could all comfortably sit at a higher rarity each. I would definitely speculate into No More Lies if it were a rare. Personally, I feel like Fugitive Codebreaker could use more attention and/or support. There are good cards here, just not enough to compete with the powerhouse that is currently Sheoldred.
Another important thing to factor is the standard rotation. There's currently a stale format that revolves around Sheoldred that people aren't going to be to fluid to testing with the new product (until it justifiably receives a ban or it rotates out). This appears to be the downside of having too many sets in standard, that there's an inherit resistance to receiving new product to the format. The next set release is the next forced rotation in a long time so we could see a wide and/or rapid change to pricings, for both sealed and singles.

It's a Dragon's Maze type situation - very unimpactful set except for very few cards.

Dragon's Maze draft was great though, 1 pack from each set, Return to ravnica, gatecrash and dragons maze.
The very few cards that were impactful are the shocks, that is 10 more cards than in this MKM..

Wizards tried to make the collector boxes hold value by making the serialized cards really hard to pull. I think it may have backfired instead.

My main lgs just told me they won't buy or sell singles from uncle karlovs foreclosed manor due to the high variation of singles.

I was interested in the clue theme up to when I opened the prelease box and that with 15 boxes opened it was not enough to solve the first mystery . Parts were missing that could have been in another prerelease box.
Following mysteries were asking to use the image on the cards on scryfall instead of our cards because it was requiring a complete set of specific version of cards to solve them

I was looking up my older cards and most have tanked in price. I dunno what’s happened in recent years but mtg cards have really dropped in price.
Anytime there's a "new" product from wotc they throw a shit set into it expecting the "shiny new!!!!" Aspect to carry it. Look at the epilogue booster box and now the play booster box. Wotc thinks their customers are brain-dead zombie wallets.
Metazoo and it's failure will forever be part of your brand because it literally has your picture and handprints all over it.

This reminds me of OG Ixalan. After "Hour of devastate your wallet" everyone was scared, Ixalan was seen as trash and Rivlas was just a dumpster fire. A few months later they became the best aging sealed products in a long time.

I don't like the idea / theme of the set but I like some cards. Commons and uncommons are mega juiced up. I think the set will have 3x 5$ uncommons and a couple of 1-2$ commons. And no I'm not joking lol. They're that pushed for constructed.
Unfortunately the good uncommons are kind of obvious: "lol better mana leak". So there's not much opportunity spec wise because they're already pricy. Speccing on 2$ uncommons is simply stupid haha. Even if it goes to 4$ you're just breaking even.
The set has no identity and is the worst quality in years. This whole “Made in Japan” card stock is some of the worst trash I’ve seen in years. They need to stop. Made in USA print runs are way better foiling. They want $200-300 a box, the stock is thin, cores are becoming like construction paper, cards are paper thin, messed up edges, dents out of a pack, foils are dull…NO THANKS! They have a serious quality control issue and want hundreds of dollars? Overpriced junk…people are just waking up. Terrible inflation going on, few people have hundreds of dollars for hobbies right now and their idea is a price increase 😂 Can’t make this shit up, like you said…life sets the best stage.
We have reprinted serialized cards.... most of the sought after cards from karlov are common/uncommon, there's better sets coming...

Rudy back in 1997-98 when I used to buy 4rth ed., ice age, fallen empires, etc. a box of boosters was around 40.00 and that was after retailers had gotten them. You could sell a pack comfortably for 3.00 and you could effectively sell 15 out of 36 packs to your friends to order another box and open the other 17 to collect yourself. Everything you said Rudy is what's wrong with the state of the game and ever the stuff you said about when it was good was still what was wrong with the game. A box of legends during this time was 3 years old could still be bought for around 120 bucks...it doesn't matter what happens or what they print ....until hasbeen and wizards of the crotch decide to price product based on how to make enough money to operate based on the price of cardboard it will never be good again

Not a good set, just not widely liked. There are 2 or 3 cards that people will buy in bulk, but this is not the kind of set to buy a box or 2 of and happily keep them for a rainy day. And the lgs' selling the play booster pks at 6$/pk is unbelievably stupid. Like the lgs people can't do math or something...... not gonna age well.

This set is miserable to draft, it feels weird. I gauge how well a set is doing based on a specific Wal-Mart. If there is zero product on the shelves, then I know its a hot set, however there is tons of this product. I don't think people like this set.
Getting rid of set boxes was a W. Getting rid of draft boxes was a MASSIVE L. Play boxes are dead in water from the jump. Just another way for hasbro to extract more money from the players. Don't even mention jumpstart.
