Ever since i got my first pocket operator, I've dreamed of a device which provides the intuition of a basic PO, but allows you to arrange full tracks along with essential editing capabilities. The M8 was already pretty close to what i desired, but paired with one of these guys, and i am almost living that dream!! Now all we need is live midi recording modes on the M8, and just....😲🤯🤤🤤🤤🤤

Thanks, Prof, for the solid demo. You answered all the questions I was too lazy/squidy to bloop the discord with. Tight scripting = stronger memory formation. Bonus points for that slappin' demo track.

Quick question for ya! I just built my OMX 27 and have been able to figure out how to assign an instrument to the keyboard, but how does one go about using it as a sequencer or track controller? Would I need a midi hub for those functions?
I think the need for a MIDI hub might depending on the other devices involved (type and quantity). For the M8, since I can have each track receive a different channel, it wasn’t necessary. Really just a matter of mapping input channels/CC messages to the right destinations on the M8 using the project midi mapping.
I really don't think the intent is to exclude anyone. I corresponded with the creator quite a bit when I ordered mine and he really cares about the customer experience. Also, now that the LEDs come pre-soldered (or so I've heard), this is a fairly simple project and a great first for anyone looking to learn - through-hole component soldering isn't the hardest and is a lot more forgiving than SMD. That said, you should reach-out on the contact page (denki-oto.weebly.com/contact.html#/) and see if he'd be willing to sell you a pre-made unit. If not, I might even be willing to help out if you purchased a unit and had it shipped direct to me. Reach out on my website and let's talk about options: monsterlogostudios.com/
Whats killing my wish for playing m8 with any external controller is that you cannot really place notes on the grid with it and while you can play in poly mode, there is now way of recording poly phrases :(
You can def place notes on the grid...to an extent. You'll see in my latest video I record a multi-phrase bass line with an external MIDI controller. You're right about limited polyphonic functionality thought, but considering the limited CPU, I don't see full multi-track recording ever becoming a reality for this device...though I also don't think it's needed. The real benefit of an external MIDI controller for me is the ability to noodle around while coming up with ideas. It's much quicker than "enter some notes, hate the results, delete most of the notes, repeat".

LEDs now pre-soldered it says on the kit's website, so less fiddly for us latecomers.
