    Leather Crafting - Making an iPhone Wallet
    I got a new iPhone so I decided to make myself a new wallet out of natural vegetable tanned leather. I recently purchased a very nice set of irons from Crimson Hides so I decided to unbox those and use them for the first time making my iPhone wallet!
    The design is fairly straight forward with the body being made from a single piece of leather, and a pocket. I made sure to punch a hole for the charging cable so that my phone can charge while it's in the pouch - a design detail I first started using with our iPhone 4 case a few years back.
    The iPhone Wallet is made from 4oz vegetable tanned leather with threads sent over by Crimson Hides. I really like the thread - it's a good size for the diamond awl-shaped holes that the new stitching irons make. Overall the piece turned out really nice!

    Each process is so meticulously carried out and beautifully shot. One of my favorite things to watch is a person masterfully hand crafting items and this was so satisfying and enlightening. I like the lack of commentary, the focus is on the work. Thanks for sharing!

    Good to see those irons in action... looking to upgrade my Japanese irons! Doing a lot of knife sheaths and the long polished teeth would really come in handy... also seem less thick in dimensions than the Japanese diamond irons. Great work! Interesting stitching style... you sure got fine tools so I am sure you would have upgraded to a stitch horse if you liked it...

    Brilliant. Add a window flap for notifications?

    • @Corter
      @Corter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could for sure! I tend to not do windows because the plastic will wear out long before the leather, but it'd be a nice addition for something like a phone where you're only using the piece for a couple years.

    • @lukedorny
      @lukedorny 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corter Leather ah! Plastic. I meant a leather flap window that you could flip up to check notifications. Might be too floppy though. Keep up the good work.
      I noticed this one used pricking irons instead of stamped stitching holes. What are your thoughts on the two methods?

    Brilliant! But how to make vegetable tanned leather pliable and soft .whenever I make goods with it becomes stiff ? I think the same is for this one too.

    • @Corter
      @Corter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most good quality veg tan will have a firm hand, but be pliable and supple. If it's very stiff and cracks when bent it's too dry - since it's totally natural without dyes or oils, even good veg will dry out over time if you don't oil and/or wax it. If you're looking for something soft you may want to go with a tumbled veg or something processed a bit more

    • @krishnendhuchakra6358
      @krishnendhuchakra6358 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corter Leather which vegetable tanned leather is used here.The leather I use has bit pliability but not stiff.
