11:08 you are right, the GR1 looks very similar to the inside of the GR10

Unfortunately that repair is beyond me at the moment, but trust that I'll release another video if I work up to it!

It's good to know that you just need a screw driver.

I am so happy I found your video. I've put so many rolls through my gr10 until one day it just stopped as these p&s do. If im able to get a second life out of my beloved camera from your video I owe you a debt of gratitude.

Great video 👌👌I've got a GR1, the lens barrel extends fine but the lens doors are very slow to open and close. I'll check the gears but I think its the door mechanism inside the barrel, any idea how to get into the barrel?

Thanks for your comment. If the lens barrel extends at a normal speed but the doors open slowly, I would agree that the door mechanism is probably the issue.
I would try (carefully) to push open the lens doors with your finger to see if you feel resistance. The leaves of the door should move freely.
I haven't tried getting into the barrel, but my best guess is that - on the GR10 at least- the front plate is glued onto the barrel. You might be able to remove it by gently applying heat with something like the iOpener (www.ifixit.com/products/iopener - not sponsored, I use this product) but I would use extreme care to keep heat away from the lens itself (don't want to mess with the optical adhesive), and for this reason I would not use something like a hot air gun.
Hopefully the GR1 is the same as the GR10 - I suspect they use the same lens and barrel.
If I try getting into the lens barrel, I will make another comment, maybe even another video. Good luck and please comment if you make any progress!

@@EvanDorsky I followed your guide to open the camera and extend the barrel where I found and removed two screws but couldn't see how to remove the barrel! Then I found this video th-cam.com/video/XFjNWfsV2Ac/w-d-xo.html and realized you have to take the front plate off the barrel, but you don't need to remove the front trim like this guy did. I now have a pair of snappy opening doors 😉

@@TitanPhotoUK Glad to hear your camera is working again! Also, thanks for sharing that video. It's nice to know how similar the GR10, GR1, and R1 are in terms of design and repair techniques.

@@EvanDorsky Thanks Evan! I've got another R1 with a loading problem, the same as this video th-cam.com/video/kVA1kQleYTE/w-d-xo.html. Do you have any idea how to fix it? the camera is immaculate otherwise so would be great to get it working again!

@@TitanPhotoUK Interesting. I've had a sort of similar problem occasionally on my GR10, and I could always fix it by just loading the film again.
First of all, I'd recommend putting in a brand new battery - the battery could have enough charge to start the winding, but not to sustain power to the film transport motor long enough to finish.
Then I'd try loading the film like this, just to rule out loading as the source of the problem:
Rotate the takeup barrel until you find the little tooth along the top, and manually engage the tooth into the second or third sprocket hole in the leader.
(I've noticed that sometimes engaging in the first sprocket hole causes takeup to fail, not sure exactly why.)
Also, just to be thorough, try loading a few different film stocks/canisters? Maybe if you're using a very old canister, it could be providing more resistance than the motor can overcome. Grasping at straws here.
If your R1 does this every time, with careful loading and a brand new battery, it could be a problem with the transport motor or geartrain.
If you don't hear any clicking as the film is transported, it's harder for me to implicate the geartrain. But I'd still open up the camera and turn the gears manually to see if there's anything obvious in the way.
      Good luck!
