    From the late 90s into the 2000s I was using those because they were all we had, when I was in my 30s. As much as I agree with you on the vintage look and as much fun as I had, I don't miss the technical and mechanical issues like you described having, which I used to frusterate over. I couldn't wait for the simplicity of the age we live in now. I love what I have today, and it's not fancy or expensive.

    the rode imo sounds worse than the in body cam mic lol, thats nutty that they got the mic to sound that solid. Tbh the sound has a great characteristic that i would just use it for its mic capabilities

      I get what you mean, but I think the rode picked up a lot more of the fine detail and it can be equalized a lot easier later on down the editing proccess.

    I have one of those Sony cameras. I bought it new, so thanks for making me feel old 😂
    I also have an even older Video 8 camera somewhere. Fun fact - you can use the Sony camera to take tapes from an older analogue Video 8 camera and pipe it into a Firewire capable computer. It gives a more stable input than using the phono cables!

    Those were the days when the 8mm first came out. 120 minutes of tape time, digital and in a smaller cassette too. No more VHS. I have two similar cameras like yours and about 6 mini DV cams I've collected from thrift stores. I know their limitations but I just can't stop using them and that's where a lot of the fun lies. I also love the eyepiece better than just a viewscreen which is difficult to see in daylight. Good video, thanks.

    I think it's better via FireWire than via analog cables when you use a MiniDV camcorder.

    • @randytate
      @randytate 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not even close. FireWire transfers are worlds better than using the cheap capture sticks. Transfering the video via FireWrie essentially clones the video - no generation loss. This video is half the frame rate and probably half the vertical resolution of the source content. The cheap converters deinterlace the video using a tragic algorithm that destroys the look and feel. Also, if you use WinDV to capture from a digital source, it can usually detect each cut and save them as separate clips. Using VirtualDub with the MSU deinterlacer creates 59.94 FPS video that looks *exactly* like NTSC DV video but on a computer. Here's a short clip of the results. This was shot on a VX2000 though. th-cam.com/video/Kyt4bmklR80/w-d-xo.html

    If you use the Sony brand shotgun mic, you won’t need to use an audio cable. It attaches via hot shoe. Also, it’s better to export video from the camera using Firewire instead of the analog RCA cables. I have the same camera-bought it new in 1998. Still works great.

      Yesssuhhhh! Preciate the support. Some people say do firewire for “higher quality” but I honestly do not care🤣 i want it to look vintage and low quality. that’s why i got the camera in the first place🙏🏾

    Idk if you will still see it but does the tape matter? Because I hear about differences in Hi8 and 8mm? Thanks

    • @VizwayMedia
      @VizwayMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what i looked at online, “Hi8 is a newer technology, so it has better video quality than 8mm.” I would assume both tapes are the same regarding compatibility.
      The quality of the tapes are just a bit different. I honestly dont care for the quality frfr, because I actually want it to look old and rough. I just grabbed what I thought would work.💯

    So first I found those camcorders like the slightly modern from maybe the 2010, but now, I just found the hidden gem, the camcorders probably from the late 80s 90s and it really gives that OG quality that I really love

    A lot of old tech is resurfacing lately: tape video, minidisc, CRT TVs, old consoles, I wonder why?… It may have something to do with today’s tech that has none existent flavor. I mean there is no real innovation and year after year it all looks and does the same. Old tech changed so rapidly in the old days: functionality, designs, colors and form factors were in crazy competition with each other, and buying new stuff was exiting and actually FUN. I am personally going to pick up my old Minidisc player again to have something to listen music to on long trips to offset my phone’s crappy battery. As for tape video, nah, I still have days of footage to digitize from miniDV and then I’m getting rid of everything

    Why not rig your handicam up to a portable capture card like an immersion RC Powerplay and it will record straight to a SD card so you won't have to go through that lengthy process of digitizing it and buying tapes?

    • @VizwayMedia
      @VizwayMedia  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s pretty cool but it kinda takes away the traditional feel of just the camera and tapes itself. Just my personal preference.

      I dont have any particular vendors. The biggest thing is to look in the title or description and see if they mention “tested and works” and try to find one that offers returns just incase something doesn’t work when you get it
