Still using the 1975 2470 my Dad bought new on the farm. Even though under powered for most of the larger tillage equipment today. It has fantastic low fuel consumption even under heavy load. No computers or electronic fuel delivery system, Very easy to maintain and fix.

Our neighbor had a 2470. Oddly enough they also had John Deere disc for it.What I remember most about it was the huge front mount snow blower they put on the tractor. Impressive snow blowing machine in the mid 70’s
I used to run a 2470 in the seventies when I was a teenager with a 12 ft crosscut disc in eastern Ohio after we gave up plowing on 3,000 acre cattle and grain operation. Those were good days thanks for the memories
It’s nice to see these older tractors still tearing up the ground, think of it, no computers, no gps guidance, just drive it straight, it’s just plain cool.
I love this old girl. I grew up in one of these. I use to sleep on the shelf behind the seat. Once I got old enough when I came home from school I would stone role with it. When I left school I drove it at seeding time. We kept it around until 2012 when we sold it. It was set up with the wide tiers and PTO. but no three point. It had the red and white paint like this one. I cant remember when dad got it but it must have been around 1979. I wished ever since we sold it that we kept it. Just because it has been such a big part of my life and love of the farm.
Owned a 2470. So much power. Pulled anything. Planted potatoes with it for years. Tight turning radius made it ideal for the task. 6 rows at a time was a lot back when it was new.
Do you have any pictures of that combination? Would love to see it! There is a larger Mortensen potato farm here in Wisconsin that I take pictures of often.

Allis Chalmers 👍. My uncle bought a new 1070 case powershift to replace a 190 XT , the case was a nice tractor (one of the last 1070 built) but it couldn't hang with the Allis Chalmers even after the dealer opened it up

I like tractor's without the computer technology i noticed a lot of new combines go across the field by themselves and that takes the fun out of farming. I would love to drive that Case it looks fun
Combine headers these days, are so wide, that the driver couldn't possibly accurately see his left boundary with any degree of precision. Given the high cost of a modern combine, you'd better make darn sure that you are taking a full width cut every single time to maximise output and reap (no pun intended), the benefit of fewer passes across a given field. The GPS guidance also helps keep the driver fresher and more alert for longer - would be near impossible to keep a huge combine like a John Deere X9 1100 completely on track 100% of the day, in say, a 500 acre plot of land.
Great clip, thanks, she's being very well driven, plenty of RPM's to be right on the power, right gear, not going too fast like a lot of tractor clips on here, she's also pulling fairly hard but not being over worked, well done, if all that makes sense. cheers.
Back in the day at the county fair tractor pull one of these and a JD4320 with duals had a pull off. The Case pulled first and eventually started jumping like a rabbit. The JD hooked up for it's pull and pulled the sled way into the curve of the track where they finely told him to just stop. Great video!!
One of the roughest riding tractors ever built! Short wheel base and the crab steering. It was definitely a dry land tractor we tried it the rice fields in Texas and it didn't work to well!
A guy that lives near me still farms with all old traction kings . He has a bunch of broken ones around that would be really good protects. Great video

She needs a make over to look like new.😍 When I joined the Seabees 78to83 we had MRS tractors that were sort of like these in that they were one piece . They were used to pull a scraper or a water tank attachment. I'm pretty sure they had V8 Detroits in them.
Our 2470 is desert tan/orange 🏜. It came with the fat singles and the small duals which we don't use. I put 1500 pounds of fluid in each tire. Fixed everything in the cab along with putting in new Jensen HD stereo and cb radio. Plan on doing everything needed for complete resto. Also use it to pull a john deere disk. Tractor runs and works excellent! Also been told that it needs to be in a museum, LoL! Would like to run an intercooler on it. Does anybody know 🤔 what I need? Thanks 😊!
We bought a red & white one new in 1974 or 5 and pulled an 8 18” Bottom Kverneland onland plow like it was nothing. We used the crab steering to pull an offset rock picker. It was a great tractor and it and the 2590 we had never broke down.
Awesome video once again BTP! I am actually going to be looking at a completely original 2470 today or tomorrow. I have some interesting plans for it if we are able to come up on a good price! I am going to be making it a machine to use in the woods almost like a slider but I still want to use it on the farm so I am also going to be making it a special loader tractor to be moving hay bales around. I have a neighbor who has the same machine and added a loader to his and it is a absolutely awesome loader tractor believe it or not
These things have a killer turning radius on them. The crab walk is definitely cool, and a lot of hardcore offroaders will use a pair of 2.5 ton Rockwell (Deuce and a Half/M35A2) steer axles so they can rear wheel steer just like these machines do. It doesn't seem too handy to me on a tractor pulling plows, but it's really handy moving through tight spaces and getting around obstacles. I can see how going up a hill and crab walking right or left to avoid an obstacle would be safer than turning the machine entirely on the slope.
These where some fantastic tractors, Delaval headquarter in Sweden used a newer CASE IH version of these when I worked for them there, it was awesome! Guess the modern version of these must be the claas xerions , or are anyone else making 4 wheel steering today?

This is actually my tractor. The steering for the rear wheels can be set to auto or manual. It’s a big lever on the dash, so you can actually drive it sideways with all 4 tires on there own path. I’ll be honest, there’s not a lot of applications for it! But it’s kind of cool!
@@jakej1284 I was aware of the "crab" steering "feature". Good to hear the later models had the auto feature because one could get rather busy with throttling down, raising equipment and working the rear steering at the end of the field.
