You have such a great story and personality. The way you speak into the camera gives the feeling as if we’re actually having that 1-on-1 conversation, and I think a lot of it comes from your laid back and nonchalant honesty. It’s funny because I found your channel when looking for Moft Desk Mat reviews. Nothing regarding photography although I’ve got some nice gear I use casually and am an art enthusiast (love your work, Im sure I’ll be snagging some of your prints here soon enough). I’m sticking around and subscribing because I appreciate you throwing your cards on the table and giving us the real person behind the photography, business, and stories, and I wouldn’t mind improving upon my own photography and videography. You’ll have a great YT career, I don’t doubt that. Just don’t change for the camera.
By the way, I love that modern industrial theme and atmosphere that your place has. I’ve been slowly purchasing furniture, hardware, and miscellaneous items over the past couple years to fit that same theme for my dream office at home. I’m getting there month by month. If you haven’t already, you should give us a quick tour of the place and show it off. I quickly glanced through and didn’t see one but may have missed it. Whoever designed the place did a great job; whether that’s you, your wife, or someone else. I’d appreciate the chance to steal some more ideas from you haha.
    👋 Matt

Thanks so much for the kind words Matt, I appreciate that :). I designed most of the house originally but now as we upgrade a few room after we went from renting to owning I’ve decided to work w an architect/interior designer for most of it. Thanks for subscribing and for taking the time to comment, means a lot to me.

Excellent points. I don’t do street photography but these “profound” points are definitely not limited to street. “Capture the complicated.” Looking forward to part 2.

Thanks Eddie, yeah just about everything I relied about relates to all genres except maybe less gear in commercial photography as I always find it useful to have more gear especially when my assistant is carrying it for me :)

I used to carry way more crap than needed to really enjoy a day out shooting street. I now only carry my M240 and either a 28, 35, or 50mm lens (my back loves me for it). If I carry to much crap then when I see that shot that I want and hesitate thinking of what lens to use the shot has already passed me by and the moment was lost. Thanks Justin...

Thank you Sue, I think this is the closest to me I can be on camera. When I script too much I lose myself so I'm still finding that balance but I'm getting there. Hope we can work together again some day if you want to start a project :).

    Justin- “Home-Run” episode - informational & inspirational!
For me Street Photography is Storytelling… can you tell a story in 1 frame… I’m constantly working on it.
I can’t wait for “Street Episode part 2”.
    Cheers & thanks, Dan

Nice one Justin 👍. It's funny how after ~ 5 years of street photography I've come to similar conclusions. It's amazing how annoyed I get by cliche street shots yet it is an eternal struggle to avoid falling for the same shots while on the street. The thing I've most learnt (and enjoy most) is to stop and talk to people, hear their story and maybe offer to take a few portraits. Some say yes, some no, but at least you've had an experience. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Peter, I'm annoyed by many of them but I catch myself doing them sometimes and have to stop myself :).

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts Jason. Couldn't agree more on minimizing one's kit. What you roll with is ideal. For those who are timid, I'd challenge them to try a 50mm. It'll tighten your focusing skills and compositions. "If your photographs aren't good enough, you're not close enough." Robert Capa

Dude, do you even street photo? Don't wanna hate, but it's kind of laughable that suddenly you post more on that subject without a proper practice. Consent reportage isn't exactly the same thing.

    • @wojt4spes

@@Tom_TH-cam_stole_my_handle which part, selling stuff? :) Just joking. Yeah, I did. So what. There is a big pack of youtubers and videos out there with "street photography", "tips" and "mistakes". Most if not all of them are not living up to the standards they preach. I have not seen in this video a single example of a good street photo. Go get like any good book on the subject - Koudelka, Webb, Gryuaert, Meyrowitz, whatever. Or even jump on instagram/flickr in proper feeds. You will learn (though I don't entirely believe like this kind of photography - to be good in it, is really that much learnable) more, than from those videos made just for monetization purposes, repeating themselves over and over.

He gives really good advice and is one hell of a photographer. Compare your portfolio to his and then talk smack?
