Thanks for this. I’ve got a 2008 supercharged Range Rover with this same transmission and I suspect the rear stator bushing is toast. It shifts okay when it’s cold but soon as it’s hot it’ll flair and slam in to 4th in auto mode and give me gear ratio incorrect codes. In manual shifting mode I can go through all the gears if I let off going in to 4th. It’ll hold 4,5 and 6 if you’re light on the throttle but if you try to overtake someone in 5th on the highway it’ll either shift to 6th or worse it’ll limp mode. So I think the bushing is bleeding pressure and not feeding the E clutch properly. I’ve read that’s pretty common. I’ve never rebuilt a transmission but I was a tech for a long time and I’m pretty confident I can do it after watching a few of these tear downs. I plan on doing a Sonnax Zip Kit in the valve body along with their bushing kit and i guess just a standard overhaul of the rest with ZF parts from Eriksson. I’ve read the GM 6L80 and Ford 6R80 are just licensed versions of these and you can get all kinds of upgrades for those so maybe I’ll look in to that too for mine.
The 6R80 is similar not the 6L80, Sonnax bushings may fit a little tight, do you have a press to install the bushings? Overall not a bad transmission to work on
They must really love that s type. All the repairs you describe will be 6 to 7 grand i bet. I sent my tcm to softelectronic per your advice and they found a problem and fixed it great. Thanks for talking to me on the phone one time. Got me going in the right direction. Trans is like brand new now
Hi Gary, thanks for you very educative videos, please inform us your viewers the job of the different clutch packs A B C D E. Which pack is responsible for the reverse?
I hate that the TCM has to go around the world for repair. We need the capacity to work on them here. I've done a 6hp19. My TCM looks the same as yours but I swapped over my old one because I didn't have the software to recode. The car has been doing great for over a year, though. Now that I have the software I plan to rebuild the transmission I swapped for practice but it was under water in Houston during one of the floods so I don't know how that'll go, lol.
Mr. Ferraro, I truly appreciate your instructive videos! However, I managed to score the inside of my 6HP26 when extracting the really rather sturdy snap ring that retains C-clutch. Will that be a problem?
hey Gary quick question if you don't mind. I have just had my ZF fully reconditioned including the valve body & Torque convertor. It is out of a Landrover LR3 2.7TDV6. The transmission is surging, it presents say at 60kmh with very low throttle and around 1700 RPM it surges, you can see it in RPM as well as feel it through drivetrain, it is not the chattering you get when TC is on way out but a more gentle sort of surge. I did have adaptions reset via GAP tool. Could you suggest possible things that might be the cause? It is all very disappointing to pay a lot of money and be without the vehicle for 17 weeks and have this.
Gary on a 62te have you ever seen a no reverse problem it engages but seems like the parking brake is on will not move and it will not roll in neutral running if you turn vehicle off it will roll.
Garry Ferraro, do you know if it is possible to install in Ford Explorer 4.6 2008 transmission from Expedition 5.4 (6R75). 6R60 and 6R75 have same dimensions and according to part catalog -same valve body. Thanks in advance
Hi gary I hope that you have some good advice on my 6HP26Z (e92 335d) I get the code 4f8a in inpa which indicates to be something with the gearshift between 4-5th. Its slipping between those gears when giving full gas. Is it the solenoids? Thanks
This is a well known issue from clutch E. You probably witness this specially when the transmission is warm and throttle pushed around 1/2 to full throttle?
Gary, I have 156Kmi on my 2005 Jaguar 4.2L XK8 and the 6HP26 is still working super. How long until it needs this? I got 230Kmi out of my old 2001 BMW X5 with the 4.4L and 5HP24.
@@GaryFerraro ok thats interesting mine has clutch e i think it is at 750 but drives perfect ? No shifting issues that i can tell ill have to double check again soon i done a service on it with original zf lifeguard 6 oil and pan

shouldn't be, if you can wet sand it to smooth out a little you should be fine
@@GaryFerraro Thanks alot for the advice!
Thanks gary for the video, do you have any vídeos 6hp26/28 with assembling?
I do not at the moment
